The Graduate (Speakers Corner)
With his film The Graduate, which was crowned with an Oscar and five Golden Globes, director Mike Nichols created far more than just the story of the erotic initiation of the college graduate Benjamin. Not only the scenario but also the production modalities were revolutionary. For the very first time the crusted morals of the American upper class were attacked by means of film, an Alfa Romeo - a European car - was advertised most effectively, and a soundtrack was put together from already existent, successful pop numbers. No words are really necessary about the music, since numbers such as Sound Of Silence, Mrs. Robinson and Scarborough Fair have entered into the annals of musical culture ever since they were used in the film. It is astounding to note how seamlessly the various works fit snugly into the film's context, as though they had been specially written for the scenes.
This soundtrack is a monument to Dustin Hoffman, who played his first big role in the film, and it catapulted Simon & Garfunkel right to the top of the list of ballad singers. But it also recalls to memory the peppy, instrumental insertion numbers by Dave Grusin, who virtually fell into oblivion after all the hype about this provocative movie.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Temporary RoomStagnant Pools are Bryan and Douglass Enas, two brothers (21 and 22) from Bloomington, Indiana. With just one guitar and a drum kit, they make music which the Chicago Reader describes as "drone-heavy, slate-gray art-rock that should appeal to fans of Disappears, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth records from back when they were still actually scary."
After a couple of DIY releases, the sibling duo spent one day in the studio recording their debut full-length Temporary Room. Researching The BluesRedd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. Their Merge release Researching the Blues is the band's first new album in 15 years. Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff McDonald and produced and mixed by Steven McDonald, the album is by far the band's favorite record. Steve says, "It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we've done. It's just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways."
Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party. Their debut recordings caught the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, who quickly became a fan as he spun their Ramones-inspired songs like "Annette's Got The Hits" and "I Hate My School" on the world-famous KROQ.
In 2006, Jeff and Steven announced their reunion with the "classic Neurotica" line-up, joined once again by guitarist Robert Hecker (It's Ok) and drummer Roy McDonald (The Muffs). Redd Kross have been playing to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out select shows and festivals such as the Azkena Festival; Coachella; The HooDoo Gurus' Invitational, "Dig It Up"; All Tomorrow's Parties; and Pop MontrÉal.1. BonesOn The Delta Saints' new album, Bones, their first for Loud & Proud Records, the Nashville-based band have stripped their roots/blues sound down to its essence, having rearranged the elements into something uniquely their own. Steeped in rock 'n' roll's building blocks - country, R&B, soul and gospel - The Delta Saints' second full-length effort explores influences like Jack White, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses and Led Zeppelin. Producer/engineer/mixer and Third Man Records alum, Eddie Spear [Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Neil Young] provided a ghostly, psychedelic atmosphere at Nashville's Sputnik Sound studios, yielding a sound unlike anything they have created before.
"We got to the point where what we were recording and playing had veered from what we were listening to and loving on our turntables, which can lead to discontent," said Louisiana-born singer/lyricist Ben Ringel, who co-founded the band almost eight years ago with fellow Belmont University student, Kansas native bassist David Supica. Soon after, they were joined by Tennessee-bred guitarist Dylan Fitch and later, after a health scare with the band's former harmonica player, enlisted Louisville resident and keyboardist, Nate Kremer, who was added to the lineup only two weeks before a two month long European tour.
Taking a novel approach of writing songs spontaneously in the studio, The Delta Saints were challenged to create in the moment and as a result, Bones is their most adventurous effort yet. The album is a collection of eclectic songs, beginning with The White Stripes-meets-Led Zeppelin fuzz-toned garage-rock blast of "Sometimes I Worry." The spare, spooky strains of "Butte la Rose" tell the band's tale of a Louisiana town purposely flooded and displaced five years ago to save New Orleans. The Grapes of Wrath drama of "Dust," based on Ringel's grandfather, an East Kansas farmer, builds to a primal wail at nature with a stunning coda in which Dylan Fitch's guitar drops out and Kremer's B3 organ provides the climax. The title track, "Bones" features hoodoo organ riffs and African-influenced trance music, which came from listening to the Sahara desert African groove of Niger's Tuareg guitarist Omara "Bombino" Moctar and Mali's Tinariwen. The grindhouse honky-tonk chain gang chants of "Heavy Hammer" celebrates the work ethic in no uncertain terms, a call for unity in the wake of Ringel's frustration about getting stuck in the rat race and feeling trapped by some of life's mundane tasks. "Berlin," the first song they recorded after adding Nate on keys, started out as an instrumental penned in the title city while on tour. It eventually metamorphosed into a country twang intro and a prog-rock jam. Bones is a complete work veering between despair and apocalyptic dread.
"We're trying to push ourselves forward to do something more modern, but at the same time incorporating where we come from," explained Ringel.
"It was incredible to be able to write a song on the spot and immediately hear what it sounded like," added Supica. "It was a great way to capture the magic right when you come up with an idea, preserving that raw element. We were used to playing a song for months on the road before we recorded it. Still, on the flip side, it was absolutely terrifying to sit in the studio watching the clock tick and waiting for a song to come out. That's where (producer) Ed Spear came into play; he was so good at keeping us pointed in the right direction."
"This record was made out of both necessity and desire. We needed to be fulfilled and surprised by music again, and we also needed to fulfill that love of writing and recording again."
The Delta Saints have independently released two EPs (2010's Pray On and A Bird Called Angola), a full-length album (2012's Death Letter Jubilee) and a live disc (2014's Live at Exit/In). They have spent the last eight years touring the US averaging almost 200 shows per year, organically growing their audience, fan by fan, city by city. Major appearances include several festivals including Wakarusa, Summer Camp, Harvest, The Ride, Summerfest and The Simple Man Cruise. A testament to their mixed appeal, they have opened for such diverse acts as Blackberry Smoke, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Taj Mahal, Dickey Betts and Michael Franti & Spearhead.
The Delta Saints have also have a large international fan base having toured Europe a total of six times, selling out countless venues and playing more than 200 shows in Spain, Sweden, France, Switzerland and Germany, as well as several festivals in Holland (Moulin Blues, Ribs and Blues), Belgium (Gevarenwinkel) and Germany (Grolsch Blues Fest).
With all that they've accomplished as a hard-working group on their own, The Delta Saints have earned their graduation to industry veteran Tom Lipsky's Loud & Proud Records (which has been the home of Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, Robert Plant, Rob Zombie, Lenny Kravitz and The String Cheese Incident, among others).
"Don't look so tired, my dear," sings Ringel in Bones' closing track, "Berlin," echoing the band's progress. "We may be bruised, but the day is almost here."
"It's hard to see progress when you're in the middle of things," said Supica about The Delta Saints' ambitions. "We try to take stock every six months or so and look back from where we've come, from eating at McDonald's and sleeping on people's floors to staying at a Motel 6 and graduating to La Quinta. We mark our success by the hotel chain where we're staying. When we get to Marriott, we know we've made it."
Bones proves The Delta Saints are well on their way to making that reservation.$18.99Vinyl LP - Sealed Buy Now

OlogyThe push-and-pull that drives Gallant's music is like a pendulum swinging back and forth between genres and influences. His combination of muscular vocal acrobatics and sonic unpredictability has attracted universal tastemaker praise and a growing fan base. Complex championed the Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter as The R&B game changer, LA Times claimed, Precise writing of Frank Ocean, big vocal runs of Sam Smith, and NME predicted, the voice that will redefine R&B, while Entertainment Weekly, The Fader, Billboard, and more have shown support. Sir Elton John summed it up best saying, Gallant is gonna be huge.
Gallant has been on this pursuit since junior high. Growing up in Columbia, MD, he began tinkering on his computer and making songs after school inspired by everything from nineties R&B to classic jazz and blues. Rather than write in a journal, the music collated his feelings and emotions. He'd rarely share it with friends though. While attending NYU, he enrolled in summer school, so he could graduate early. Post-graduation and countless hours of meticulous practice later, he was finally ready to share his songs to the world at large.
His first online release If It Hurts would establish him in the blogosphere, while 2014's Zebra EP landed him on Spotify's viral charts and at the top of HypeM. Signing to Mind of a Genius in 2015 and relocating to L.A., he dove into creating what would become Ology with co-producers such as Stint. The first single Weight In Gold enjoyed its world premiere on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show as the introductory entry in the coveted World's First segment. In less than six months, it accumulated over 6.5 million Spotify streams.
As Gallant continues on his search, he leaves a message on the path. If people can hear I'm not doing this to feed any ego or serve someone else, that's all I want, he leaves off. I'm trying to create a photo album I can look back on to see where I've overcome challenges. I'm using music as a means of self-discovery. If my songs help somebody do the same thing or realize art can help us improve ourselves, I'd be honored.LP 1

King Of JeansIf 2005's Shallow was Pissed Jeans coping with moving out of their parents' homes, and 2007's Hope for Men their initial reaction to the mechanical lifestyle of a wage-earner, King of Jeans is their formal and uneasy acceptance of adulthood, by way of one hell of a rock record. Lives and TreasureAcrylics is the musical partnership of Molly Shea and Jason Klauber. Native to Philadelphia and downtown Manhattan, respectively, the pair began making music together while attending Ohio's Oberlin College, where they spent snowy nights in their basement droning Fender Jazzmasters in odd tunings and listening to vinyl records from New Zealand. After graduating Molly and Jason both moved to Brooklyn and decided to try something new. Acrylics started experimenting with various recording techniques and bizarre results began to emerge. Songs with folk roots grew disco branches, country skeletons wore new age skin.
They called their second album Lives and Treasure because that's just about what it cost to finish the thing. Many stories surface and vanish over the course of the album's ten tracks. The songs are concise but extremely potent, and each listen reveals something previously undiscovered.1 Counting Sheep

Now Is The Time For Hearts & FlowersThough they are often only referred to in passing, as a sort of footnote of '60s West Coast scene, Los Angeles group Hearts And Flowers were actually one of the most eclectic groups of the time, incorporating elements of psych and country into their folk-rock sound. Founded by Larry Murray, a southern transplant to LA, and a graduate of the same vibrant Southern California bluegrass scene that gave way to Byrds and Burritos, the group's 1967 debut, Now Is The Time For Hearts And Flowers, is a classic album that deserves mention in the same breath as Sweetheart Of The Rodeo or Bradley's Barn. Another LanguageSince 2004, This Will Destroy You has been forging some of the world's most brutal, dynamic, and precariously visceral instrumental rock. In addition to a vigorous tour schedule, their celebrated discography and critically renowned soundtrack work for feature films and documentaries have earned them a sizable and fervent international following. Another Language, TWDY's fourth full length LP, marks their euphonious return from a prolonged vacuous dark period that threatened to break both the band and the members themselves. Rather than be stifled by their experience TWDY were atomized and subsequently made anew, emerging with a revived energy and reinforced sense of solidarity. Medicine For BirdsSinger and songwriter Angelica Garcia's journey down the rabbit hole began when she moved to Accomac, Virginia. Graduating from Los Angeles School for the Arts, the 17-year-old native Angeleno found herself living in a 200-year-old gothic brick home encircled by magnolia trees and under a blanket of bright stars. Her stepfather traded a career in the music industry for Episcopalian priesthood, and an Eastern Shore church would serve as his (and the family's) first congregation. Isolated and alone, Angelica locked herself in the parish house and fashioned a musical world that veers between ghostly gorgeous countrified blues and sly swamp Americana. With a childlike whimsy, quirky sense of humor, and dynamic delivery, it could easily soundtrack an apparitions' ball in some Faulknerian mansion. Upon first listen, it entranced Warner Bros. When The World Comes DownLimited Repress Gatefold LP On Clear Vinyl With White And Blue Starburst
The All-American Rejects began writing material for their third studio album in late December 2006 after wrapping up their Tournado tour, and continued through into the new year. But due to further touring and promotion for their second album Move Along, the band did not enter the studio until nearly a year later. This was also the first time lyricists Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter tried new methods of writing by escaping to various regional areas in North America to conceive new lyrics so that the songs could sound honest.
The first songs to be written that made it onto the album were I Wanna, Back to Me, and Breakin'. While I Wanna was written over a six-month period, with Ritter making constant refinements, the following songs Gives You Hell and Another Heart Calls were all written during a road trip to Vancouver, Canada, with Fallin' Apart and Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down) getting scored in Rabun County, Georgia, the latter of which was recorded live in one take. The album was later named When the World Comes Down as Ritter saw the title track as a perfect, simple work of art.
The All-American Rejects began recording for When the World Comes Down at Skywalker Ranch in San Rafael, California and later at Barefoot Studios with producer Eric Valentine. The 16-piece orchestra featured on a dozen of the tracks was recorded at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California.
In an interview with She Knows Entertainment, Ritter commented I think When the World Comes Down has been a journey. I was twenty-three when I started writing this record. I'm twenty-four now... people say when you graduate college you figure out who you are. If I had graduated college, this would be that moment - now. I think I was most questioning life when I was getting off the road with Move Along and this record was therapy for me. It's everything I needed it to be for me.1. I Wanna

Make Out With ViolenceMake Out With Violence is a genre-bending tale of a boy trying to fulfill his unrequited love for a girl who has risen from the dead. Set against the backdrop of a summer of cicadas and swimming pools, the film blends elements of up-beat teenage melodrama with the strange gravity of classic coming of age stories. It tells the story of twin brothers Patrick and Carol Darling, newly graduated from high school and struggling to come to terms with the unexplained disappearance of their friend, the bright and beautiful Wendy Hearst. When a drive through the countryside surrounding their suburban community leads to the discovery of Wendys mysteriously animated corpse, the boys secretly transport the undead Wendy to an empty house in hopes of somehow bringing her back to life. As the sweltering summer pushes on, they must maintain the appearance of normalcy for their friends and family as they search for ways to revive the Wendy they once knew, or, failing that, to satisfy their own quests for love amongst the living and the dead. Fast Livin' BluesJon Hendricks helped to originate vocalese, which is an art form of adding lyrics to existing instrumentals and replacing instruments with vocalists. He is also considered to be one of the best scat performers. Jazz critic and historian Leonard Feather called him the "Poet Laureate of Jazz". Al Jarreau has called him "pound-for-pound the best jazz singer on the planet - maybe that's ever been".After his service in the Army during World War II, Hendricks attended the University of Toledo as a pre-law major. Just as he was about to enter the graduate law program, his G.I. benefits ran out, which forced him to choose a different career path. Recalling that Charlie Parker had encouraged him to come to New York two years earlier to look him up, Hendricks took him up on his offer and moved there and began his singing career. In 1968, he moved his family to London, England to further his solo career and so his five children could receive a better education.Musicians:

Land Observations, the musician and artist, James
Brooks is releasing his brand new album, The Grand
Tour this summer. Brooks, an original founding member
of the British experimental post-rock band, Appliance
who released four albums on Mute. He also has a
Masters degree in fine arts and his art exhibits have
been in galleries ranging from the Tate Britain to the
Galerie Laurent Mueller in Paris. The Grand Tour is the
follow up to his critically acclaimed 2012 debut album,
Roman Roads IV-XI.
Based on the idea of the historic Grand Tour, a
traditional rite of passage for wealthy University
graduates in the 18th century, the album creates an
imaginary travelogue meandering through Western,
Central, and Southern Europe. The Grand Tour was
recorded on the edge of the Bavarian Alps on just one
electric 6-string guitar echoing Brooks' sentiments, "I
didn't want to be in a band any more and I became
aware that a solo guitar could fill the sound."
Early in 2014, Brooks played on fellow Mute artist,

The Natural WorldCoke Bottle Clear Vinyl
Land Lines is an impossible decade, some gap in history where the tines of early electric pianos shimmer in echo chambers, baroque cellos thrum minor chords, and modern percussive rhythms build with surgical precision. All culminating in sparing, angular pop melodies that find new creative spaces in an otherwise overpopulated musical landscape. 'Land Lines' arose from the ashes of Matson Jones, when Martina Grbac, Anna Mascorella, and Ross Harada regrouped and began crafting new songs. After releasing their self-titled LP on Denver's Cash Cow Records, Anna left the group to attend graduate school; James Han, who had been recording and touring with Nathaniel Rateli and Gregory Alan Isakov, joined and helped shape the new sonic direction of the band. In early 2014, Land Lines recruited Xandy Whitesel to record/mix and TW Walsh (Suan Stevens, The Shins, David Bazan) to master a second LP, 'The Natural World.' With sultry songs that saunter, thrust, and linger, 'The Natural World' is a treasure trove of heart breaking songs of love, loss, and human nature and ushers in the next era of Land Lines's sonic exploration.1. - The New Yorker
After the critically acclaimed release Deep Fantasy (2014), White Lung return with their fourth album, Paradise.
Vocalist Mish Barber-Way, guitarist Kenneth William and drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou, reconnected in Los Angeles to work with engineer and producer Lars Stalfors (HEALTH, Cold War Kids, Alice Glass). In October of 2015, White Lung spent a month in the studio, working closely with Stalfors to challenge what could be done with their songs. "I wanted it to sound new. I wanted a record that sounded like it was made in 2016", says William of his mindset. Bringing all the energy, unique guitar work and lyrical prowess Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NME have praised them for in the past few years, White Lung curated their songs with a new pop sensibility.
Mixed by Stalfors and later mastered by Joe LaPorta, Paradise is their smartest, brightest songwriting yet. "There's this stupid attitude that only punks have where it's uncool to become a better song writer," says Barber-Way, "In no other musical genre are your fans going to drop you when you start progressing. That would be like parents being disappointed in their child for graduating from kindergarten to the first grade. Paradise is the best song writing we have ever done, and I expect the next record to be the same. I have no interest in staying in kindergarten."1. Dead Weight

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
On Winds of War and Peace, conductor Lowell Graham takes the National Symphonic Winds ensemble through a program of stirring orchestrations and marches. Liberty Fanfare was composed for the centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. The fanfare set the stage for one of the most spectacular celebrations in America's history. Samuel Barber's Commando March composed in 1943, represents Barber's first band work. Written in a quadruple meter, this work utilizes the constant contrast of dotted and triplet rhythms. Roger Nixon's Festival Fanfare March, was recognized for superb composition by the American Bandmasters Association in 1973. It is a work that's technical, bright in color and effervescent in spirit. The album also includes Victory at Sea, El Camino Real, A Santa Cecilla and Symphonic Dance No. 3.
Graham, a native of Greeley, Colorado, has earned recognition as one of America's most talented young conductors. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. He was also the first person to be awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Catholic University of America.

Classic Rock Landmark Has Sold More Than 17 Million Copies: Experience the Pioneering Production As It's Always Been Meant to Be Heard on Vinyl
Spearheaded by MIT graduate and studio enthusiast Tom Scholz, Boston almost single-handedly created arena rock on its 1976 debut. A classic rock juggernaut that has sold more than 17 million copies in America alone, Boston soars on the strength of reflective lyrics, contagious melodies, towering vocals, and one delicious hook after another.
And was Boston ever a unit. Scholtz's strong masterful guitar chops, the late Brad Delp's powerhouse vocals, Barry Goudreau's rhythm guitar playing, Fran Sheehan's bass action, and Sib Hashian's dynamite drumming propelled the band to unforeseen heights. If a group's legacy can be determined on the basis of how long its music holds up, Boston's ranks with the best. Smash songs such as More Than A Feeling, Smokin', and Long Time remain staples on radio stations around the world. They are immediately distinctive and unfailingly uplifting.
Part of the appeal directly concerns Boston's unduplicated sound. Scholtzs pioneering 12-track recording devices allowed him to create layered sounds whose depth, width, and height know no limits. And now, more than 30 years later, his production genius can finally be heard as originally intended.
Mastered from the original Epic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at AcousTech/RTI, Boston reaches new-found glory here with amazing sonics that possess phenomenal clarity and detail. Friday Music's 180g LP also features a gatefold cover, a first for this classic.1. More Than A Feeling
