    Stephen Stills

With his 1970 self-titled solo debut, Stephen Stills, like his CSN&Y bandmates, decided to explore other musical avenues. Stills offers up his trademark Southern California folk-pop sound here while incorporating the Latin, swamp and blues influences that were just beginning to emerge in his songwriting. The London session allowed Stills to finally team up with Eric Clapton on the track Go Back Home and Jimi Hendrix, who died prior to the album's release, is notably featured on the track Old Times, Good Times. Other collaborators include John Sebastian, Rita Coolidge, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Cass Elliot. Features two of Stills' biggest hits with Love the One You're With and Sit Yourself Down.

    Hear! Here!

Hear! Here!, the Hollies second American album, was issued stateside in 1965 by Imperial Records. Its a reworkedand, for many listeners, improvedvariation on the original British LP known simply as Hollies, with the U.S. version adding the hits Look Through Any Window (the Hollies first American Top 40 single) and Im Alive. Hear! Here! finds the band members original compositions beginning to dominate the Hollies repertoire, with their songwriting skills shining on such standout tracks as Put Yourself in My Place, So Lonely and Ive Been Wrong. Elsewhere on the album, the groups interpretive skills shine through on Curtis Mayfields You Must Believe Me, Roy Orbisons Down the Line and Lloyd Prices Lawdy Miss Clawdy.

Of all the English bands who achieved international success during the first wave of the British Invasion, none combined youthful rock n roll energy with musical sophistication more compellingly than the Hollies. The Manchester quintet effortlessly combined the effervescent, Everly Brothers-inspired vocal harmonies of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks with a muscular rhythm section driven by the brilliant drummer Bobby Elliott, creating one of their eras most beloved and enduring musical catalogs.

As was standard practice with British acts at the time, the Hollies early albums reached American shores in very different form than the versions that were released overseas, with alternate track listings and different cover art than their U.K. and European counterparts. Although these unique variants are the form in which millions of American fans first experienced these historic albums, they have been out of print for decades, and have long been obtainable only at inflated collectors prices.

    Crosby Stills and Nash: Demos

12-Song Collection of Previously Unreleased Demos from 1968 to 1971 Offers a Behind-The-Scenes Glimpse at the Earliest Days of One of Rocks Most Legendary Partnerships!

After four decades as three together, the creative partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash is one of the most enduring and influential in contemporary music. This compilation of previously unreleased material takes an unprecedented look at the earliest days of their collaboration with 12 demos from 1968 to 1971 of destined-to-be-classic songs that would later be featured on CSNs studio albums and solo titles. While a number of demos feature members performing solo (and one finds them joined by Neil Young), the set opens with the trio harmonizing on Marrakesh Express, recorded four months before their self-titled debut LP was released in 1969. Other rarities include seminal takes on Almost Cut My Hair, Chicago, Long Time Gone, Love The One Youre With and DÉjà Vu.

The collection, produced by Graham Nash and Joel Bernstein, reaches as far back as 68 with Stills My Love Is A Gentle Thing, and also features his solo classic Love The One Youre With. Highlights include CSN harmonizing on a January 69 take on Marrakesh Express, Crosby and Stills on Long Time Gone, and Crosby and Nash joined by Neil Young on Music Is Love (a song later featured on Crosbys solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name). Among the other highlights are three songs that would appear on Nashs solo debut, 1971s Songs For Beginners, including Chicago and Sleep Song, and Crosby performing unaccompanied on Almost Cut My Hair and DÉjà Vu.

On some of these songs you really hear us becoming a band, trying out different ideas in our songwriting and singing and harmonies. It really is a time capsule. Graham Nash

    Judee Sill

Judee Sill's debut album (as well as the debut of the Asylum label) heralded a major new talent in the airy, contemporary folk world of the early '70s. The album employed the production skills of Sill's ex-husband Bob Harris, as well as ex-Turtle and ex-Leaves Jimmy Pons, and Graham Nash (on the album's sole single, 'Jesus Was s Crossmaker'). Judee Sill featured all original compositions, many of which relied on Sill's own brand of cosmological Christian imagery to make their point. By turns spare and lavishly orchestrated, there is still a cohesive feel to all of the album; her lyrics are exceptionally poetic and her voice is smooth enough to give every song a shimmery feel. The essence of the music is folk, the execution pop: the songs feel like a comfort blanket, a statement of hope from a troubled soul.

Born October 7, 1944, and hailing from California, Judith
Lynn Sill was an American singer-songwriter who learned
how to play piano in her father's Oakland bar. She met,
befriended and started opening shows for Graham Nash
and David Crosby in the mid-to-late 1960s.

After a bit of interest from Atlantic Records, David Geffen
offered Judee a contract and she became the first artist to
sign with his then-fledgling Asylum label. During her early
days at Asylum, she sold her song "Lady-O" to the Turtles and
was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. Graham Nash
produced her first single, "Jesus Was A Cross Maker," off her
self-titled debut album which was released on September
15, 1971 and engineered by Henry Lewy (Joni Mitchell). The
song was inspired by her romance with singer-songwriter
JD Souther, who later wrote the song "Something In the
Dark" about her. The album featured Sill's voice in multiple
overdubs, often in a four-part chorale or fugue. Her debut
album was not a commercial success, despite good reviews.
Sill took over orchestration and arrangements for her
second album, Heart Food, which was released in March
of 1973. The album was critically acclaimed but sold poorly
and ended her association with Asylum and David Geffen.

Judee continued to write songs and in 1974 began to record
new material planned for a third album that was never
finished. Sill continued to struggle with drug addiction
and health problems, eventually dropping out of the music
scene completely. Judee tragically died of a drug overdose
on November 23, 1979, at her apartment in North Hollywood.

Sill's music was not commercially viable at the time but
was incredibly influential as well as ground-breaking and
many notable songwriters such as Andy Partridge, Liz Phair,
Warren Zevon and Shawn Colvin have been fans of her work.
Her songs have been covered by the Hollies, Cass Elliott,
Warren Zevon, Beth Orton, Bill Callahan, Bonnie Prince Billy,
Ron Sexsmith, The Fruit Bats and many more.

DAVE MASON--Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and TRAFFIC co-founding member--has announced the release his new album, FUTURE'S PAST (Something Music/MRI) featuring new versions of his classic songs plus new material that he has written and performed on tour over the last few years. Renowned for such Traffic hits as Feelin' Alright (covered by Joe Cocker) and Hole In My Shoe plus his solo signature tracks We Just Disagree and Only You Know and I Know, MASON's acclaimed solo career continues to flourish as he tours the U.S. with his new project billed as DAVE MASON'S TRAFFIC JAM.

The cover art illustration for FUTURE'S PAST was done by none other than Mr. Graham Nash from a photo he made of DAVE while at Nash's place in Hawaii.

Of the new release, MASON says, There is a great version of 'Dear Mr. Fantasy' that is kind of a re-write. There is a version of 'World in Changes' that is absolutely nothing like the original and there is a great live version that is absolutely beautiful of 'Sad and Deep as You.' There are two or three songs that were on a CD called 26 Letters 12 Notes that I did seven years ago, a Robert Johnson song, 'Come On in My Kitchen' and a brand new song called 'That's Freedom.'

    Evolution (Mono & Stereo)

Double LP Package Includes Both Mono & Stereo Versions

For many Hollies enthusiasts, Evolution (1967) is considered the band's most accessible blend of pop and psychedelia. The quintet were headed into musical territories beyond simply moon-June-bloom and boy-meets-girl lyrics coupled with the tightly constructed vocal harmonies that had become their calling card. Nowhere is this more evident than in the tripped-out cover art from Dutch multimedia artists Seemon Kooer, Marijke Kooer, Josje Leeger, and Barry Finch -- known collectively as Fool. Although Carrie-Anne could be considered an extension of the trite, somewhat predictable Brit pop, there are clear indications of new horizons on cuts such as the modish You Need Love, the arguably passÉ distorted electric guitar on Have You Ever Loved Somebody, and the wailing fretwork on the driving freakbeat rocker Then the Heartaches Begin. Graham Nash (guitar/vocals), Allan Clarke (guitar/vocals), Tony Hicks (guitar/banjo/dulcimer/vocals), Bobby Elliott (drums), and new recruit Bernie Calvert (bass/vocals) -- who replaced original member Eric Haydock in the spring of 1966 -- were also taking different approaches in their writing and arranging, as heard on the trippy Headed for a Fall. On this tune, most prominent is the unusual six-eight time signature, coupled with Hicks' inversion of the unmistakable banjo, which is similar to the sound he conjured up on the hit Stop, Stop, Stop. However, somewhat more atypical of the Nash-era band are the light and limber acoustic and uptempo Stop Right There, or the baroque Ye Olde Toffee Shoppe.

    Born And Raised (Awaiting Repress)

Columbia Records is pleased to announce the release of Born and Raised, the fifth full-length album from Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician John Mayer. Mayer produced the 12-song set with the much in demand Don Was, who's worked on albums for acts such as the Rolling Stones, B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt among others.

Rock legends David Crosby and Graham Nash provide vocals on the album's title song. Additional musicians joining Mayer on the album and on the road include highly-regarded keyboardist/pianist Chuck Leavell, who has worked with the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and The Allman Brothers Band, as well as previous collaborators Sean Hurley on bass and Aaron Sterling on drums. Jim Keltner makes a special appearance on drums on Something Like Olivia. Born And Raised will be preceded by the country-tinged lead single Shadow Days.

Mayer's previous albums Room for Squares (2001), Heavier Things (2003), Continuum (2006) and Battle Studies (2009) have sold more than 12 million copies combined. He has been honored with seven Grammy Awards and an additional 11 nominations. He has also been included in Time Magazine's annual 'Time 100' list of the most influential contemporary thinkers, leaders, artists and entertainers, and twice been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine's annual 'Guitar' issue.

    Here I Go Again

Released in America in 1964 by Imperial Records, Here I Go Again was the Hollies U.S. debut, and is rated by many fans as superior to its British counterpart, Stay with the Hollies. Here I Go Again offers an accurate representation of the Hollies early repertoire, comprised largely of distinctive covers of American R&B and rock n roll classics. In addition to the ultra-catchy title tune and their hit covers of Maurice Williams Stay and Doris Troys Just One Look, the album finds the Hollies applying their trademark style to such iconic numbers as Chuck Berrys Memphis, Little Richards Lucille and Arthur Alexanders You Better Move On.

    Separate Oceans

With no less than a mansion, a state beach, and a three-mile
stretch of road bearing his fabled family's name, Ned Doheny
easy-glided into the 1970s on a crest of wealth and privilege.
Signposting Ned's sojourn through the LA recording industry
were Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Chaka Khan,
Graham Nash, "Mama" Cass Elliot, Bonnie Raitt, and David
Geffen-each a household name both inside and far from
southern California. And while no bust of Ned Doheny
appears alongside those of his Laurel Canyon brethren in the
pantheon of classic rock, it's not for lack of songwriting abilities
    or recording chops.

Over the last three decades, Doheny's albums have slid in and
out of print on LP and CD, budget jobs without any involvement
from the self-described "avatar for casual vulgarity." Separate
Oceans examines Ned Doheny's first ten years adrift in song,
pulling together choice album cuts and 11 previously unissued
demos. An 8000 word essay is illustrated by images from the
archives of noted rock photographers Henry Diltz, Moshe
Brahka, Clive Arrowsmith, and Gary Heery, creating the first
ever overview of this unheralded marina rocker.

    Beat Group

Originally released in the U.S. in 1966, Beat Group! was the American cousin to the Hollies' British LP Would You Believe?. However, identical cousins they were not: Beat Group! boasts substantially altered musical content and completely different cover art. Led by the snap-jangle-pop of the smash single, I Cant Let Go, the album is a thrilling combination of originals and R&B covers ripped from their riotous live sets. Highlights include commanding versions of Buddy Holly's Take Your Time, Sam and Dave's I Take What I Want and the Otis Redding/O.V. Wright classic That's How Strong My Love Is. Original songs Hard Hard Year, Oriental Sadness and Fifi the Flea, along with Mersey Beat staples A Taste of Honey and Mr. Moonlight round out the disc.

Out of print for decades, this classic album is FINALLY available again. Sourced from the aurally awesome original U.K. mono master, this LP is pressed on pristine 180-gram vinyl per your turntables request. Get in the queue!

Perhaps the most undervalued band of the original British Invasion, The Hollies hits are well known in the U.S. but their early albums are almost impossible to find! Taking their name from Buddy Holly and modeling their harmonies on the Everly Brothers, the Hollies gathered these American musical ingredients and whipped them into a wholly-UKnique concoction. Forging their sound to the east of their Liverpool brothers-in-beat, this Manchester quintet had it all: the soaring vocals of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks; Hicks cascading, arpeggio-laden licks on guitar and a hard-hitting rhythm section driven by drummer extraordinaire Bobby Elliot. On top of that, their keen ears for top quality songs, written by the premier songsmiths of the day like teenage wunderkind Graham Gouldman, Chip Wild Thing Taylor and the stellar in-house writing team of Clarke/Hicks/Nash, ensured that their albums were extraordinary from start to finish. In short, they were a band that exuded greatness on all fronts. Now, as that greatness has been acknowledged by their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Sundazed Music is proud to present meticulously restored vinyl editions of the rare U.S. mono versions of the Hollies third and fourth Imperial label albums, from 1966.

    Bus Stop

No rest for the Hollies in 1966! Hot on the heels of Beat Group!, Bus Stop rolled into U.S. record shops, right on schedule. Written by Gouldman, the title track became the bands first Top Ten U.S. single, peaking at #5, and featuring their bell-tone harmonies to perfection. In addition to the sparkling single, the album is packed with their renditions of contemporary hits like Simon and Garfunkel's I Am A Rock, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Mickey's Monkey' and the Fred Neil/Roy Orbison chestnut Candy Man. Self-penned songs We're Through, Don't Run and Hide and You Know He Did also shine brightly and prove there was no danger of covering up the band members writing skills. With this disc, the Hollies put the rock world on notice that they were the British Invasions most beat-filled battalion!

    Fanfare

Jonathan Wilson returns in 2013 with Fanfare, an epic, grandiose and highly ambitious production that builds upon the success of his Bella Union debut.

With 2011's critically-lauded Gentle Spirit, audiences worldwide were introduced to the prodigious talents of singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and unrivalled guitar hero Jonathan Wilson. Gentle Spirit's authentic exploration and modern updating of the Laurel Canyon sound earned it high marks on many year-end lists, including those of MOJO (#4), Uncut (#16) and The Guardian (#28). The eagerly-awaited follow-up, Fanfare, is an even more ambitious production that instantly conjures thoughts of Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue.

'Fanfare as a word represents a fanciful showing, a bodacious movement of energy, a celebration of sound, Wilson explains. Something to signify an arrival, a special occasion. In this case, it's also the immense opening song that builds into a multilayered cinematic poem from the artist to channel the perfect love song through his piano. As a declaration of intent, it's a powerful statement.

From the initial idea of the record, I knew I wanted a concert Steinway piano to be the centerpiece--the beating heart--of Fanfare. I was going for this sort of widescreen sound. I wanted strings, horns, vibes, voices, solos, improvisation and a full orchestra on some of the tunes. Having that 9-foot Steinway was central to achieving the sound that I wanted.

Fanfare was made in Los Angeles over a 9-month period. Featuring vocal and instrumental contributions from heavy friends like Graham Nash, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Josh Tillman (aka Father John Misty), Wilco's Patrick Sansone, Dawes' Taylor Goldsmith and Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, the album is a celebration of friends and family. Additionally, Wilson and British folk legend Roy Harper co-wrote several songs on the record.

Sometimes Wilson seems to need a pinch to believe his good fortune: There are an awful lot of wizards on this album. Wizards of all ages and life experiences. All these amazing voices and musicians. There is a high degree of musical prowess and pedigree here. Cross-generational musical sharing and passing down traditions is very important to me and something that must continue. This is the way you keep the Fanfare's blowing, this is how you keep the energies interacting.
