    Soul Dressing

Following up their smash debut album Green Onions, 1965s Soul Dressing keeps the MGs party going in fine fashion. From the first smack of Al Jacksons crisp-as-a-potato-chip snare attack, the groove never lets up on these 12 original tracks. Guitarists will want to pay special attention to Steve Croppers aggressive, proto-fuzz/funk Telecastering (as surely, Jimi Hendrix, Ernie Isley and Billy Gibbons were all doing at the time). Add to that mix the cooking organ and high-voltage electric piano of Booker T. and rock salt-steady bass lines of original MG bassist Lewie Steinberg and youll have a dressing fit for any occasion. Hungry yet?

Want to mix up this dressing at home? First, youll need to pick up the original, done-to-perfection Stax Records analog master tapes. While stirring steadily, add a high-definition dose of the freshest vinyl available. Bake at 33 1/3 degrees until done to high glossy finish. Serve in the original, full color artwork and, PLEASE, no MSG, just BT&MG!!!

The Live Adventures Of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper

In the wake of the success of their seminal 1968 Super Session release, blues-steeped guitar hero Mike Bloomfield (Butterfield Blues Band and Electric Flag) and multi-talented keyboardist/singer Al Kooper (Blues Project and Blood, Sweat & Tears) teamed up again for a historic series of joint performances as San Francisco's legendary Fillmore West, which are documented on The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper.

The resulting live album, culled from three nights' worth of shows and released in 1969, is a powerful testament to the formidable musical chemistry of these two rock legends, whose collaboration began when they played on Bob Dylan's classic Highway 61 Revisited. The Fillmore performances bring out the best in both musicians, who stretch out on assortment of tunes, including the Kooper/Bloomfield original Her Holy Modal Highness, Paul Simon's The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), The Band's The Weight, Booker T. and the MGs' Green Onions and Albert King's Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong, which features a rare Bloomfield vocal. The album also features guest appearances by Elvin Bishop and Carlos Santana.

Unavailable in its original format for decades, The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper has been meticulously restored to its original double-LP form for this vinyl reissue, using Sundazed's exacting technical and aesthetic standards. The album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, and duplicates the album's original gatefold cover art, including legendary artist Norman Rockwell's iconic cover painting of Bloomfield and Kooper.

Live Adventures Of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper

    180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl

    Gatefold Sleeve

Includes Don't Throw Your Love On Me So Strong, Feeling Groovy, Green Onions and Dear Mr. Fantasy

The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper is a double album recorded at the Fillmore West venue in San Francisco. The album is the follow-up to the studio album Super Session which included both Bloomfield and Kooper in addition to Stephen Stills, and had achieved commercial and critical success earlier in 1968.

In regards to the performances, recordings and production, in the sleeve notes Kooper describes the difficulties of finding rehearsal space, Bloomfield's insomnia, and the failure of a vocal microphone during Dear Mr Fantasy. The album is an important, if raw, document of a live blues-rock performance of the period and is notable for not only one of the earliest live recordings by Carlos Santana, but also Bloomfield's debut as a vocalist. Whilst he is not historically noted in this role, in Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong, according to Kooper, he displays consummate homage to the traditional guitar-voice trade-offs; a lesson in phrasing and understanding.

    Road From Memphis

The Road from Memphis starts with a young Booker T. Jones hauling his stack of newspapers to Phineas Newborn's front yard where, while folding them for his after]school delivery route, he could listen to the jazz great practice piano. It ends with Booker and The Roots roaring through a set of both timeless and contemporary originals (and propulsive covers of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy and Lauren Hill's Everything Is Everything.

Along for the ride are vocalists Matt Berninger of the National, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket, Sharon Jones, Lou Reed, and Booker himself, telling the story of how the funk/soul sound that Booker helped invent spiraled out from Memphis, touching The Roots' hometown of Philadelphia, New York (where engineer Gabe Roth has been recreating classic soul sonics for everyone from Sharon Jones to Amy Winehouse), and Detroit.

Detroit as in Dennis Coffey, legendary Motown session guitarist who introduced driving rock]funk rhythm to hits like Cloud Nine and Ball of Confusion by the Temptations, and brings his Detroit grit to these tracks. The Road from Memphis is classic Memphis soul, and classic Booker in the tradition of Green Onions, but beyond that it is the story of a sound, and how Booker, working with the inheritors of his sound, is keeping a tradition alive.

The Original Atlantic Soul Masters 180g Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues..

As a young teenager growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, Booker T. Jones had the amazing talent to play a number of instruments and he played them well. Mastering them well enough to land him work at the famous Stax Records label as a sideman, while still attending high school. It was during this time he met up with future guitar legend Steve Cropper and drummer great Al Jackson and later formed the Stax wrecking crew known as Booker T. & The M.G.s.
