Leonard Cohen Greatest Hits'No-one ever listens to me anyway, I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record', Neil once said during an episode of the notorious 'Young Ones'. This has changed dramatically. Cohen's 'Hallelujah' has reached the charts several times performed by various vocalists. Massive sold out concerts and well-known artists like Lou Reed, Bono, Nick Cave, Antony and Rufus Wainwright paying homage resulted in a huge re-appreciation which led to a whole new generation getting in touch with Cohen's impressive repertoire. This album is the perfect anthology of this legend's career.

Anyway You Love, We Know How You FeelThe Chris Robinson Brotherhood have announced the release of their fourth studio album, Anyway You Love, We Know How You Feel, via Robinson's own Silver Arrow Records. The band relocated to northern California for the sessions, recording on the side of a mountain overlooking the foggy Pacific Ocean and channeling the natural majesty of their surroundings into the album's eight sprawling tracks. Having spent the prior two years touring relentlessly, the CRB were road-tested and in peak form to capture their kinetic chemistry and immersive sound, which Uncut Magazine called, " a celebration of how American musical traditions can be at once honored and psychedelically expanded."
"It was an opportunity to see where our expression could take us. For us, when it comes to making records, the looser it gets the better," says Robinson. "It's all about taking our intuition and following it to where our ideas can really manifest themselves. This turned out to be the most spontaneous record I've ever been a part of."
Indeed, when the Chris Robinson Brotherhood entered the studio to begin recording the album, no one knew just what to expect. These would be the band's first recordings with new drummer Tony Leone (Ollabelle, Levon Helm) and their first time producing themselves. Robinson purposely left as much open-ended as possible. Rather than coming into the studio with a collection of finished songs as he had in the past, he would present the group with sketches-a verse and melody here, a chorus and chord progression there-and let the band follow its collective muse to bring the music to life. They'd lean into the improvisational nature that makes their live shows such enthralling spectacles and thrive on the unexpected.
"All it takes is one good, small idea, and then if everyone's focused and in the moment, a few hours later, you can have something that you realize you'll be playing for as long as you're making music," Robinson continues. "I think when everyone's aware that that's the sort of magic that we're looking for. More than any other session that I've ever been a part of, that's how all of these songs were done."
The album kicks off with "Narcissus Soaking Wet," a psychedelic toe-tapper that marks Robinson's first co-write with keyboardist Adam MacDougall. It touches on everything from Dylan and Parliament Funkadelic to psych rock and Chicago rhythm and blues. "Ain't It Hard But Fair" calls to mind the soulful Americana of The Band, while "Oak Apple Day" is a mediation on life in the CRB, and "Forever As The Moon" came together in a stream of consciousness between The CRB's lead guitarist Neal Casal and Robinson. "Leave My Guitar Alone" was a song Robinson had been sitting on for nearly 15 years, but only once he presented it to the rest of the band did it roar to life in a way that had eluded him for more than a decade. Some of Robinson's finest writing to date arrives in the album's final minutes, with the country-soul, gospel-tinged closer "California Hymn," which finds him singing "Glory glory hallelujah / It's time to spread the news / Though my good words may sound profane to some."
The Chris Robinson Brotherhood emerged in 2011 by playing close to 50 shows over nine weeks in California before ever leaving the Golden State or officially releasing music. Their introduction on the national stage came in 2012 when they'd release not one, but two acclaimed full-length albums within a few months of each other. Critics hailed their sprawling debut, Big Moon Ritual, as a revelation, with The Independent raving that Robinson had "finally found the ideal vehicle to indulge his taste for 'Cosmic California Music.'" The reviews were similarly ecstatic for its immediate follow-up, The Magic Door, which was praised by Relix as "classic rock in the finest sense." The band's epic tour schedule brought their shimmering acid-Americana around the world for a staggering 118-date tour, firmly establishing the CRB as the new standard-bearers of the psychedelic roots torch. In 2014, they returned to the studio for Phosphorescent Harvest, a masterful collection that showcased the blossoming songwriting partnership between Robinson and Neal Casal. Rolling Stone raved that the album was "electrifying boast[ing] a vintage rock vibe that's at once quirky, trippy, soulful and downright magnetic," and Guitar World called it "a treasure trove of soul that advances the band's bluesy, kaleidoscopic sound."1. Belafonte Sings The Blues200 Gram LP Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings
Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
Old-Style Tip-On Heavyweight Jacket By Stoughton Printing
A favorite off the recommended list by The Absolute Sound magazine, and, as expressed in the liner notes, Harry Belafonte's favorite recording. Belafonte has never before sung on records as he does in this album. He is freer, more earthy, more exultantly identified with his material than ever before. He has always communicated an often ferocious power as well as lyrical sensitivity, but in this collection he achieves a unity of emotional strength in and understanding of his material that marks an important stage in his evolution as an artist.
Includes classic songs Cotton Fields, God Bless' The Child, Hallelujah I Love Her So. Recorded in New York City in January and March 1958, and in Hollywood, California, in June 1958.
As the liner notes by Nat Hentoff state, there is not much to say about the individual performances that is not entirely clear on hearing them. Truly a classic for discerning audiophiles, Belafonte Sings The Blues was the first Belafonte album recorded in stereo. The sound is incredible, and the dead-silent backgrounds of QRP 200-gram vinyl preserve every exquisite detail! This is one of Belafonte's most satisfying set of performances.

Time Further Out: Miro ReflectionsTime Further Out continues the Dave Brubeck Quartet's exploration of unusual time signatures that began on the ensemble's definitive 1959 album Time Out. Accompanied by an all-star cast, the esteemed pianist arranging tunes according to the number of beats per bar, in the process rewriting rhythmic rules and dance steps. In fact, the tracks are ordered by the number of beats per bar, starting with It's a Raggy Waltz and Bluette in 3/4, Charles Matthew Hallelujah in 4/4, Far More Blue and Far More Drums in 5/4, Maori Blues in 6/4, Unsquare Dance in 7/4, Bru's Boogie Woogie in 8/8, and concluding with Blue Shadows in the Street in 9/8.
Like the original Time Out album, Time Further Out's cover features a work of modern art: a painting by Spanish artist Joan Miro. Mastered from the original analog tape by George Marino at Sterling Sounds in New York and pressed at RTI in Camarillo, California, this record has never sounded so alive or immediate. MichaelMichael is the debut full length from Les Sins, the dance project
of Toro Y Moi's Chaz Bundick. Inspired by cartoon and movie
soundtracks, the largely instrumental album explores classic
dance and pop music traditions. Catchy, repetitive vocal hooks
gel with beats and synth work influenced by house, techno,
French electronic, and '90s hip-hop production. Bundick made
the album over two years and recorded everything in his home
The funky Why features vocals from Berkeley, Calif. singer-songwriter Nate Salman asking "Why you wanna go and do
that?" "Bother" holds down a head-bobbing, body-moving
groove until a stunning hallelujah moment straight out of a sci-fi
version of Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
While there are no concrete themes associated with the album,
Chaz says he can imagine all of these songs playing in the
middle of the brilliantly lighted and busy Ginza district in Tokyo.
Touchstones like Timbaland, Mr. Oizo, and Daft Punk, and
contemporaries such as Motor City Drum Ensemble offered
inspiration, but most influential on the making of the album was
the sage advice of a design icon. "My favorite graphic designer,
P. Rand always said, 'Don't try to be original, just try to be
good,'" Bundick says. "When making this record that was/is my

Fragments Of A Rainy SeasonFragments Of A Rainy Season is the first live John Cale album to feature him performing solo and "unplugged" - before that term became a mid-'90s buzzword. In contrast to the jaundiced punk truculence of Sabotage/Live (1979) or Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1986), Fragments gives us Cale at his most melodic and moving, a mellowed and certainly a soberer man in a Yamamoto jacket and a lopsided haircut running through a selection of his prettiest songs.
The album features incredible versions of 'Paris 1919,' 'Dying On The Vine,' 'Chinese Envoy,' cover versions of the Elvis classic 'Heartbreak Hotel,' his devastating treatment of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' and a suite of Dylan Thomas' works 'On A Wedding Anniversary,' 'Lie Still, Sleep Becalmed' and 'Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.'LP 1

Junky StarRyan Bingham and The Dead Horses' new album Junky Star follows-up the Lost Highway releases Mescalito (2007) and Roadhouse Sun (2009). Bingham recently won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song for The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart), which he co-wrote with multi-Grammy Award-winning producer/musician T-Bone Burnett. The collaboration between Bingham and Burnett developed into a solid artistic relationship during the Crazy Heart recordings, and as a result, Burnett signed on to produce Junky Star.
All 12 songs on Junky Star were written by Bingham and performed by his longtime band The Dead Horses, featuring Matt Smith (drums), Elijah Ford (bass) and Corby Shaub (guitar/mandolin). Burnett created a recording environment that perfectly complimented the themes and textures of Binghams reflective songwriting and gravelly voice. The tracks on Junky Star range from narratives with vivid imagery (The Poet), to introspective confessionals (Hallelujah), to bluesy roadhouse stomps (Direction Of The Wind) to Sticky Fingers-era Stones (Depression) and the compelling folk balladry of Yesterdays Blues and Lay My Head On The Rail.1. Songs From The Road
Brand New 2010 Release
"When legend Cohen takes to the stage, it's no less than a cultural event of Biblical dimensions." Following the celebration of his 40th year as a Columbia artist in 2007 and coinciding with his induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in March 2008, Cohen thrilled his fans by announcing his first tour dates in 15 years. One dozen of Leonard Cohen's most famous songs from those recent world tour performances - at auditorium halls, festivals, arenas, and stadiums - are now collected on Songs From The Road. Recorded in 5.1 surround sound Songs From The Road is not only a tribute to Cohen's consummate artistry as a concert performer, it is also a tribute to his enduring worldwide popularity at this time in his career. It is ultimately Cohen's ageless songs that draw faithful audiences - new fans and old - to his sold-out concerts.
Songs From The Road represents every decade of his life as a recording artist, from the 1960s ("Suzanne" from his 1967 debut, Songs Of Leonard Cohen; "Bird on the Wire" and his interpretation of "The Partisan" both from his second album, 1969's Songs From a Room) - to the '00s ("That Don't Make it Junk" from 2001's Ten New Songs). And even though it shares some songs with the 2009 Live In London release, the recordings on this album are unique. Throughout the tour, Cohen "seemed to find at every stop the sisters of mercy whom he immortalized in one of his oldest and most tender songs.... And now, wherever this precious man wanders, the famous blue raincoat notwithstanding, people sing 'hallelujah!'"

You Are Not AloneSoul Gospel Legend at the Top of Her Game: Staples Declared Best Artist at 2010's Lollapalooza Festival
Hallelujah: You Are Not Alone Might Be the Best New Album You Hear in 2010
Stellar Set Produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Features Songs by Allen Toussaint, John Fogerty, Tweedy, Randy Newman, and More
The best album you hear in 2010? You Are Not Alone will be at the top of the list. This is music that's timeless, soulful, and pertinent, performed with an energy and commitment that burns with the same level of conviction as Mavis Staples' belief in a higher power. Here's a record that will change your life and elevate your mood. Just as its two main architects intended.
When Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Mavis Staples sat down to talk about what they wanted her new album to sound like, they both turned to the original spiritual roots of the Staples Singers as a backbone. Both wanted to make a record about connection, about reaching out to someone through the power of music. What they achieved is the album of Staples' career, a warm, powerful, spiritual, and fervent collection of brilliantly chosen and interpreted songs.
Produced by fellow Chicagoan Jeff Tweedy at Wilcos studio The Loft, the intimate and textured production--glorious on LP--mixes traditional gospel numbers with two new songs written for Mavis by Tweedy, plus her unique interpretations of songs by Pops Staples, Randy Newman, Allen Toussaint, John Fogerty, Rev. Gary Davis and Little Milton. Backed by Mavis smoking touring band (Rick Holmstrom, guitar, vocals; Jeff Turmes, bass, vocals; Stephen Hodges, drums; Donny Gerrard, background vocals) and featuring guest turns from Tweedy and Wilcos Patrick Sansone, with background vocals by Kelly Hogan and Nora OConnor, the album cradles Mavis exquisite voice, allowing her to stretch out emotionally on tracks like Randy Newmans Losing You and the Creedence Clearwater Revival chesnut Wrote a Song For Everyone.
The two songs Jeff wrote for Mavis meld seamlessly into the vibe and theme of the album: He would listen to my conversations, my words, and then feed off that. The songs he wrote take me places I wouldnt normally go, says Mavis.
Already one of the bestâ€received releases of 2010, Mavis message of joy and redemption has found the setting it has always deserved. Truly, a must-own album that will last you a lifetime.1. Dont Knock

When Count Basie returned to Verve Records in 1962, Neal Hefti was contracted to write the tunes and arrangements, a revival of their partnership from the 1958 Roulette LP Basie Plays Hefti. While none of these selections is as famous as his songs like Cute, Little Pony, Splanky, Li'l Darlin', and Repetition, the substantial originality of this music is hard to deny, not to mention that the expert musicians playing his music bring these tracks fully to life in a livelier fashion than most laid-back Basie studio sessions. In fact, it has the feeling of a concert date that trumps the more clean, controlled environment of a session that was recorded on a three-track reel-to-reel. There's also plenty of room for exceptional solos from most of the participants, as Hefti is mindful of who is in the band and how each musician might sound when given his head.
This is tried and true swing-oriented modern big-band music that actually sounds advanced for its time frame, and is solid as anything Basie has done post-April in Paris. The band is atypically bold and brazen on the opener, I'm Shoutin' Again, with Frank Wess on alto (not tenor) sax for his spirited solo. The great chart of Jump for Johnny is a hard bopper for Johnny Carson, basic Basie with tenor saxophonist Frank Foster and trumpeter Sonny Cohn trading licks. Hefti's best work is showcased during Together Again, as the hopping brass and singing horns take tuneful twists and turns. This set also includes the classic track The Long Night, a famous blues featuring the sly flute of Wess in front of the horn section and a masterful muted solo by trumpeter Thad Jones. There are other tunes that are derivative, as you can clearly hear the borrowed phrases of C Jam Blues/Duke's Place in the low-key then blasted-out Eee Dee, Shiny Stockings sprinkled about during the more typical laid-back Rose Bud, and Groove Merchant or Hallelujah, I Just Love Him So in the easy-swinging soul groove of Ain't That Right. Hefti's movie soundtrack experience comes to the fore on Shanghaied, definite spy music with Cohn's muted trumpet masking phobias and paranoia. There are two cute tunes: Skippin' with Skitch, led by three flutes (Wess, Eric Dixon, and Charlie Fowlkes); and the lightly strutting Ducky Bumps, featuring Henry Coker's trombone, with brief solos from Basie's piano and bassist Buddy Catlett.
A solid and worthwhile album that has been out of print for far too long, this will be a welcome addition to any Basie lover's collection, and comes highly recommended to anyone even mildly interested in excellent large-ensemble mainstream jazz.

No More Shall We PartNo More Shall We Part ends a four-year silence from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. A best-of was issued in 2000, but no new material has appeared since 1997's landmark album, The Boatman's Call. With that record Cave had finally delivered what everyone knew he was capable of: an entire album of deeply tragic and beautiful love songs without irony, sarcasm, or violent resolution. It appears that The Boatman's Call has altered the manner in which Cave writes songs, and the Bad Seeds illustrate them. Two musical directors -- the ubiquitous Mick Harvey and Dirty Three violinist Warren Ellis -- craft a sonic atmosphere whose textures deepen and widen Cave's most profound and beautiful lyrics to date. The ballads have the wide, spacious, sobering ambience one has come to expect from the Bad Seeds. There is an ethereal change in sound in the up-tempo numbers, which are, for lack of better terminology, musical novellas. They plumb the depths of blues, yet contain glissando and crescendos from the orchestral music of composers such as Fartein Valen and Olivier Messiaen. There are places, such as in Oh My Lord, where rock & roll is evoked as a device, but this isn't rock music. A listen to As I Sat Sadly By Her Side, Hallelujah, and the aforementioned track (the most rock song here) will attest that it is merely one color on a musical palette that is more expansive now than at any time in the band's history. Also in the band's musical treasure trove is the addition of the McGarrigle sisters on backing vocals - nowhere is their contribution more poignant than on the tenderly daunting, haunted house that is Love Letter. Lyrically, and as a vocalist, Cave has undergone a startling, profound metamorphosis. Gone is the angry, humorous cynic whose venom and bile touched even his lighter moments. His deep taunting ambivalence about Jesus Christ and Christianity in general is gone, vanished into a maturity that ponders spiritual things contemplatively. Humor that pokes fun churchianity remains, but not as a source of its inspiration. Over these 12 tracks, Cave has taken the broken heart--so openly exhibited on The Boatman's Call--and elevated it to the place where he has learned to live with, and speak from it as both an artist and a human being. Leonard Cohen stated in the song Anthem, that, there is a crack in everything/that's where the light gets in.No More Shall We Part is a mosaic of those cracks. If this album is about anything, it is about love's ability to survive in the world. It is examined concretely and abstractly; to the point where it meditates on this theme even cinematically. His methodology for the listener is, even though these are intimate conversations, the effect is illustrated in widescreen. In this way, Cave touches the heart in the same way Andrei Tarkovsky's films Stalker and The Sacrifice and Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire do. There is powerful emotion here, spiritual, psychological and romantic, without a hint of the sentimentality that would make it false. As both a singer and a songwriter, his work has been transformed into something so full of depth, color, and dimension, that there is simply no one except his mentors working on this level in popular music. In the opening moments of As I Sat Sadly By Her Side, a tenderly, softly sung vocal delivers: Then she drew the curtains down/And said when will you ever learn/That what happens there beyond the glass/Is simply none of your concern/God has given you but one heart/You are not a home but the hearts of your brothers/God don't care for your benevolence anymore/But he cares for the lack of it in others/Nor does he care for you to sit at/Windows in judgement of the world he created/While sorrows pile up around you/Ugly, useless and over-inflated/At which she turned her head away/Great tears leapin' from her eyes/I could not wipe a smile from my face/As I sat sadly by her side. The title track is a ballad that could have been lifted from The Boatman's Call, except it lacks the reaching tragedy. And Cave sings in a tenor no one thought him capable of -- And all the birds will sing to your beautiful heart/Up on the bell/And no more shall we part. The chaos of earlier Bad Seeds outings does kick up on The Sorrowful Wife, where violins and Blixa Bargeld's guitars duel with Jim Sclavunos's drums for domination of the sonic torrent. The record closes with two of Cave's most beautiful songs, a near country gospel waltz called Gates to the Garden with the McGarrigles sweetening an already lovely tome to redemptive love. Finally, Darker With the Day, illustrated by Harvey's striking pianistic ballad framework touched by Bill Evans' technique, is as strikingly autobiographical as Cave has ever been, highlighting the extremes of good and evils that inform and torment the protagonist's inner emotional life within in a single day. There is loss and the seeking of deliverance and, in a statement not so much of recognition that this is simply fate, he also acknowledges hope: All these streets are frozen now/I come and go/Full of a longing for something I do not know. As he calls to a lover gone seemingly forever, he comes to the conclusion that for him, redemption is in love itself, whether divine or profane; the only hope is that love, between two people or between an individual and her or his creator, depends on one's openness to receiving it. Who can argue with him? No More Shall We Part leaves listeners in awe, full of complex emotions, and pondering the notion that they've been in the presence of great redemptive art--which Henry James calls, the thing that can never be repeated.

Buckley had a voice like an oversexed angel, and the songs on Grace shimmer and twist and ripple. On the fierce rocker Eternal Life, he upends Led Zeppelin's take on the blues, even as he honors it: Instead of a hellhound on his trail, Buckley, who drowned in 1997, sings about immortality bearing down on him. - Rolling Stone
During his famed early gigs at the New York club Sin-É, Buckley used to break hearts with his version of this Cohen prayer. Buckley called it a homage to 'the hallelujah of the orgasm' and had misgivings about his sensuous rendition: 'I hope Leonard doesn't hear it.' On his posthumous live album Mystery White Boy, Buckley turns 'Hallelujah' into a medley with the Smiths' 'I Know It's Over.' - Rolling Stone
Jeff Buckley's Grace is a masterpiece. The critically acclaimed breakthrough is filled with sweeping choruses, bombastic arrangements, searching lyrics, and above all, the richly textured voice of Buckley himself.

Ray Charles' Stunning Atlantic Records Debut!
The One That Started The Genius Of Soul Phenomenon!
Mastered For The First Time From The Original Monophonic Atlantic Records Tapes By Joe Reagoso
Ray Charles was the premiere architect singer/songwriter/musician whose "genius" of combining jazz, blues
with gospel most certainly began the American soul music movement. This modern form of R&B which would become
an American way of life forever etched itself in total with the release of his classic #1 hit single I Got a Woman from
his stunning debut 1957 album Ray Charles.
Fused with heavy blues, gospel and rock and roll, I Got a Woman was one of Ray's very first top charting hits
soon to be followed by other #1 smash hit singles like Mess Around and A Fool for You. More hit singles graced his first
album as well with Hallelujah I Love Her So, Ain't That Love and This Little Girl of Mine. The Ray Charles album itself
on its own merit is truly a Greatest Hits LP, whereby most of these early Ray Charles' hit tracks have been covered
hundreds of times by some of the most important voices in popular music, like The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Steve
Miller Band, Van Morrison, Peggy Lee, Johnny Winter, Jerry Lee Lewis, Stevie Wonder and many others.
Also included on this debut masterpiece are some of Ray Charles' more definitive blues rockers like the powerful
Come Back Baby, the rockin' Greenbacks, the #1 blues rocker Mary Ann, and the brilliant soul sounds of Don't You
Know, Drown in My Own Tears and Losing Hand.
The Ray Charles album forever etched the name superstar and genius with Ray Charles as the LP reached the
upper rungs of the popular, jazz and R&B charts and has become an American institution which will forever stand the
test of time. Being one of his rarest LP's of his career, the magnificent album has not been officially released on vinyl
in over five decades and fetches hundreds of dollars for a mint used copy if you can even find one.
