After all, this 39-year-old semi-reformed punk-metal drummer is the son of Hank Jr., a blue-collar hero who has difficulty ducking controversy even on something as Richard Nixon and apple pie American as "Monday Night Football."

It's still sobering to realize that Hank recorded just 66 songs during his lifetime, almost all of them essential. Here are those that serve as a working definition of country music, and as an admonition to artists who try to get too wordy or try to lose themselves in minor keys. Your Cheatin' Heart, HonkyTonk Blues, Cold, Cold Heart, Lovesick Blues, You Win Again, I Can't Help It, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, and the rest.

    The Garden Spot Program, 1950

Set the time machine for early morning on KSIB, Creston, Iowa. February, 1950.

Omnivore Recordings is proud to present The Garden Spot Programs, 1950, featuring
24 performances, unheard for 64 years, from the one and only Hank Williams!

Rescued from obscurity, these shows originally aired over 6 decades ago, and The Garden Spot Programs, 1950 collects material from the four of them
    now known to exist.

From hits to standards to songs rarely (if ever) performed, this is pure Hank Williams, including playful, between song banter. Fully restored to incredible
quality, The Garden Spot Programs, 1950 is more like being in the studio when they were recorded than actually listening to them on the radio!

Any music from Hank Williams is worth celebrating. Discovering material that has been unheard for generations is monumental.

"It's incredible to me that we're still finding new recordings by my dad. Great ones, at that! No one even suspected that these recordings existed. We
partnered with Omnivore Recordings for this release, and I especially love it that they're taking my dad back to vinyl."
    - Jett Williams

    For Better, Or Worse

Oh Boy Records will release John Prine's latest, For Better, Or Worse, a duet album and follow up to the Grammy nominated In Spite of Ourselves. In this timeless album, produced by Jim Rooney, John sings with country sweethearts Iris DeMent, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Kathy Mattea, Kacey Musgraves, Fiona Prine, Amanda Shires, Morgane Stapleton, Susan Tedeschi, Holly Williams, and Lee Ann Womack.

The classic songs on For Better, Or Worse, originally recorded by artists such as Hank Williams, George Jones, Ernest Tubb, Buck Owens and others, are in John's blood. "I cut my teeth on Hank Williams songs," he says. "When I sing these songs there is a small pipeline straight from my heart to my lips." The tracks take listeners through the universal cycle of love's pull, love's bend, love's life, and love's end.

Shine A Light: Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad

In March 2016, singers Billy Bragg and Joe Henry, guitars in hand, boarded a Los Angeles bound train at Chicago's Union Station with the hope of reconnecting with the culture of American railroad travel and the songs it inspired. Winding along 2,728 miles of track, the pair recorded songs while the train paused to pick up passengers. In waiting rooms and at the track side in St. Louis, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Alpine, El Paso and Tucson, they set up their recording equipment, performing classic railroad songs while keeping one eye on the train, bounding back aboard just before pulling out for the next town. After four days crossing the country, they pulled into Los Angeles at 4:30am, recording their final song in Union Station at dawn, just as the first birds began to sing.

The resulting album Shine A Light: Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad takes listeners along on that journey and will be released September 23 on Cooking Vinyl Records. The album features the perfectly matched voices of Bragg & Henry and captures the varied atmospheres and environments in which they recorded-from the close proximity of soft furnished sleeping cars to cathedral-like ambience of waiting halls built to hold thousands of passengers. Containing thirteen songs originally recorded by legendary singers such as Lead Belly, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and more, the album reveals an often forgotten but integral part of America's musical heritage.

    Johnny Cash Sings Hank Williams

Originally released June 15, 1960, Johnny Cash Sings Hank Williams is not quite an accurate title. Only four of the album's twelve tracks are Hank Williams' songs with all but one of the remaining tracks composed by Cash. Whatever the title, this is a fantastic collection of early tracks from Sun, including "Straight A's in Love," "I Walk the Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues." Also included is the lean rocker "Mean Eyed Cat," featuring hot rockabilly licks from Luther Perkins. A thrilling platter from start to finish!

    Cattle Callin' (Awaiting Repress)

Shelton Hank Williams, aka Hank III, presents two new projects: Attention Deficit Domination and 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin. Both are intensely metal-driven records on which Hank III plays all instruments. Attention Deficit Domination is a pressure-dropping, doom rock statement that has been anticipated by his hardcore fans for years, and Cattle Callin explores a new mind-bending 'Cattle Core' sound, featuring Hank III's speed metal woven in and around actual cattle auctioneering.

Attention Deficit Domination allows the listener into Hank III's crunching metal world of the heavy and the slow, complete with his renowned fundamental percussion. The nine tracks hardly allow you to get up from the floor. With songs such as I Feel Sacrificed and the tormented Livin Beyond Doom, Hank III works a ground somewhere between devastation and high theater. Both A.D.D. and Cattle Callin' are very intense. It's very manic, Hank III explains. It's hard to follow, even for the guys I play with. I'm playing everything on these two. It's very complex.

There are 23 tracks on Cattle Callin, featuring Hank III's driving, formidable guitar attack, with instrumentation built around the auctioneering tongue-in-cheek humor with titles such as Heavy Cattle and Angus of Death. Also fans of bluegrass will love the banjo-driven Cattle Callin Lonesome Blues, featuring Mason. I was raised around it (cattle auctioneering) and it's pretty amazing how fast these guys are, Hank III says. Hip-hop has looped auctioneers. Bluegrass has meessed around with it a little bit. This has never been done in the heavy metal world.

    Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite

    40th Anniversary of the Historic #1 LP/Televised 1973 Concert!

Mastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the Original RCA Records Tapes & Manufactured at RTI!

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early-'50s, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known. The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single "Heartbreak Hotel" forever etched "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in over 35 top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time. In 1968, his career ignited even further thanks to his Elvis TV Special on NBC and another series of hit singles and career making albums like his country soul smash From Elvis In Memphis.

As the '70s began, Elvis was selling out shows all around the country and began to plan out a series of groundbreaking performances in Hawaii. His show on January 14, 1973 was broadcast live via satellite across over forty countries and would become the most watched televised event by a solo artist in history. It's been said that over one billion viewers enjoyed his incredible concert! The show was choreographed and staged like nothing ever before and featured a multitude of musicians, the Hawaiian Islands, the appreciative and excited audience, and of course, The King Of Rock And Roll himself Elvis Presley.

The multi-platinum Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite set also was a blockbuster as it hit the top #1 spot on the charts in 1973, making this one of the biggest albums of his career as well as one of the most revered live concert albums of all time proving once again Elvis Presley's career was unlike any other in music history. This live masterpiece takes off with the Memphis blues rocker "See See Rider" and his huge '70 hit "Burning Love." He follows these up with his tip of the hat to his friends The Beatles with the soulful balladry of "Something." More of Elvis' own favorites follow with the Hank Williams' ballad "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and his rockin' interpretation of Chuck Berry's classic "Johnny B. Goode."

The album also features a nice helping of solid Elvis top chart hits like "Blue Suede Shoes," "Hound Dog," "A Big Hunk Of Love" and his smash single interpretation of James Taylor's "Steamroller Blues." As a tribute to his Hawaii audience, the ever thoughtful King Of Rock And Roll closed the show with his masterpiece "Can't Help Falling In Love" from his film Blue Hawaii. In total, the album showcases a very historic Elvis Presley performance which has truly gone onto become the definitive live concert album in his amazing catalog of hit gold and platinum recordings.

In honor of the Man, the Music, the Legend, the King Of Rock And Roll, Friday Music is very proud and honored to announce the limited edition 40th Anniversary deluxe two album 180 gram audiophile vinyl release of the RCA Victor classic Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite by Elvis Presley. As they further continue their exciting Elvis Presley 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series, they are pleased to present this masterwork in all its high fidelity glory. Attention Deficit Domination

    Ricky Sings Again

Ricky Nelson Ricky Sings Again on Numbered Limited Edition LP from Mobile Fidelity Silver Label

Foundation-Establishing Rock n' Roll Album Includes Eternal Hit Lonesome Town

A Late 1950s Vocal and Instrumental Touchstone: Nelson Comes Into His Own, Moving Away from Teen Pop and Towards Serious Rockabilly

Stellar Backing Band Includes Elvis Presley Sideman/Guitarist James Burton and Backing Vocalists the Jordanaires

    Also Includes Top 10 Singles Believe What You Say, It's Late, and Never Be Anyone Else But You;

Superb Sound: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

Ricky Nelson will forever be identified with the ageless single Lonesome Town. The career-defining smash is included here, on a record that arguably remains the picturesque idol's peak moment, a 1959 set on which the singer moves away from teen pop and towards serious rock nl' roll and rockabilly on par with the likes of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Loaded with material expressly written for Nelson as well as tunes penned by Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, and featuring an all-star session musician band, Ricky Sings Again is a foundation-building 1950s album.

Exceeding the fidelity of any prior analog pressing and affording a warmth missing from Capitol's out-of-print digital reissues, this Silver Label LP, pressed at RTI and mastered on Mobile Fidelity's internationally acclaimed mastering system, teems with detail, presence, dynamics, and authority. With help from his legendary father, Ozzie, Nelson enjoyed superb studio production, heard here in the form of balanced instrumentation, natural tonalities, wide and deep soundstages, and you-are-there vocals. Studio dimensions, too, come across with palpable body and precision. Since the record is a collection, some of the tracks are in mono, others in early stereo.

Backed by a stellar band that includes Elvis Presley guitarist James Burton and in-demand studio bassist James Kirkland, Nelson delivers what remains a 1950s classic that stands up to everything recorded by his famous contemporaries. Burton mimics the sound of a train on One Of These Mornings, just one of the myriad tunes here on which the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member lays down fabulous lines and rockabilly licks that both shade and support the concise melodies. While largely recognized for the melancholy ballad Lonesome Town, one of four Top 10 singles on the set, Ricky Sings Again is as much about early rock n' roll and extraordinary singing. About that voice.

Simultaneously tender and rollicking, innocent and mature, Nelson conveys a rainbow of emotions, pouring over country-flavored weepers and beat-driven rockabilly numbers with equal parts sensitivity, smoothness, and sincerity. A surfeit of heavenly background harmonies and innovative guitar-led breaks make masterpieces out of upbeat offerings such as You Tear Me Up as well as slow-dance invitations like Old Enough to Love. Add the Jordanaires on back-up vocals, and there's something for everyone here.

No matter the performance, Nelson demonstrates time and again on Ricky Sings Again why he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the institution's second year of existence, and why, even more so than Elvis during 1958-59, he was the period's leading singles artist.

Deluxe Edition Includes Demos And Live Tracks

Produced by Pete Anderson, the disc's sinewy mix of traditional honky-tonk, red-hot Bakersfield twang and rock n' roll attitude spawned a trio of hits including a cover of Johnny Horton's Honky Tonk Man, It Won't Hurt, and the title track. In the bigger picture, its stripped-down sound twisted together strains of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Elvis Presley, and more--with a roots-driven rawness, it changed and revitalized country music.

The Late Great Townes Van Zandt

The Late Great Townes Van Zandt is a 1972 studio album by Texas singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. It was the second album that he recorded in 1972, and a follow-up to High, Low and In Between. The album includes the earliest recorded version of two of his best-known songs, Pancho and Lefty and If I Needed You. The album also included several cover songs and a re-recorded version of Sad Cinderella from his 1968 debut album. Some reviewers point to this as an indication that Van Zandt's prolific writing was beginning to slow,[4] however, this was his sixth studio album in five years. The cover songs included one song by his close friend, Guy Clark (Don't Let the Sunshine Fool Ya'), one by a major influence, Hank Williams (Honky Tonkin'), and the Lawton Williams song Fraulein. As a boy Van Zandt's father only agreed to buy him his first guitar after Van Zandt promised to learn to play Fraulein.

The album has made several critical best of all-time lists. Stereophile included it as one of 94 honorable mentions that just missed their list of The 40 Essential Albums.

Ghost To A Ghost/Gutter Town (Awaiting Repress)

With his own new label, Hank3 Records, and the sense that he has thrown off the chains holding him back creatively, Shelton Hank Williams III, aka Hank III, is coming out swinging in 2011 with the release of four records. The unprecedented launch, in a distribution partnership with Megaforce Records (MRI), features a broad range of music that bridges more than one head-thumping genre, a familiar theme that true Hank III fans have embraced for years. Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town, a double-album set, is a straight-shooting country collection, flavored with Hank III's trademark hellbilly sound, and heavily weighted with Cajun influence (especially on Gutter Town) and an ambient, lonesome mood, and a few very special guests.

All three projects were recorded at The Haunted Ranch, Hank III's home and studio that lies on the outskirts of Nashville, a fitting place since the town has never really known what to do with this grandson of the American icon. He finally parted ways with Curb Records January 1. I have musical freedom. I'm able to say 'Here's my record' and I don't have to go through a million different channels just to put out a song, he says. It's all me now.

Hank III wrote the lion's share of the songs that appear on Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town. The players are Andy Gibson on steel guitar and banjo, who also aided in its recording, David McElfresh on fiddle and mandolin, Zach Shedd on standup bass, Daniel Mason on banjo, super-picker Johnny Hiland on guitar, Billy Contreras on fiddle, and Rory Hoffman on accordian. Guest appearances include the mythical Tom Waits on the haunted Fadin Moon from Gutter Town and on the Ghost to a Ghost title track, Alan King of Hellstomper, Les Claypool of Primus fame, Dave Sherman, Troy Medlin and Hank III's dog Trooper.

Cuts such as Gutter Town, Ridin The Wave and The Devil's Movin In on Ghost to a Ghost and Goin to Gutter Town, The Low Line and I'll Save My Tears on Gutter Town highlight both the excellent musicianship on the records, and Hank III's unmistakable, confident vocals. The release of all three projects represents a new birth for Hank III, and he's happy to have the chance. Megaforce Records has helped me with my vision to do something that never been done before, he says. They're handling my distribution, and I wanted to flood the market and do everything different. I wanted to come out of the gate strong. I'm opening up the mind a little bit and bringing some different styles together.

    Folksinger's Choice

STUNNING 180 GRAM VINYL RELEASE OF THIS BOB DYLAN LIVE PERFORMANCE

    1000 ONLY LIMITED EDITION

Not yet 21 and with his first album still unreleased, a largely unknown Bob Dylan was invited by New Yorks WBAI radio to perform a live broadcast for Cynthia Goodings Folksinger s Choice programme on March 11th 1962.

This legendary recording, available here for the first time on vinyl, illustrates perfectly the scope and manner of Dylans live repertoire in the months leading up to his debut release.

In addition to the three originals, all newly minted by Dylan, he covers songs by the likes of Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie and Big Joe Williams, but interestingly does not perform any tracks that would feature on his first record just weeks from release at the time of this broadcast.

Folksinger's Choice also contains the only known Dylan performances of Smokestack Lightning, Hard Travelin and Roll On, John and features the first known outings of The Death Of Emmett Till and Standing On The Highway

The 11 songs performed are liberally interspersed with chat between Bob and Cynthia, however, far from spoiling the show, this only go to enhance one of the best early recordings we have of Bob Dylan, making this LP an incredibly important early document.
