    The Harder They Come Soundtrack

The breakthrough album that-in conjunction with the film of the same title-burst reggae through into the
mainstream with its release in England in summer 1972 and in the US, on Island's newly inaugurated reggae
specialist imprint Mango, in spring 1973.

As film director and co-writer Perry Henzell said of the film, "There is no impact you will ever have greater than the
impact of showing a society itself on the screen for the first time.

In 2013, Anti- release's Neko Case's much anticipated new studio album (and first album in over four years), The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You. Neko's most precise, urgent record to date, marked by a melodic immediacy, a loving embrace of the big rock gesture, and a lyrical frankness. The perfect culmination of Neko's trajectory so far, the pop, folk and country influences, the fluid craft of her band, and that soaring voice, blended seamlessly into the album her legions of fans have been waiting for.

Grave Babies are a band whose sound might suggest the need for drugs that stabilize mood, while also creating a desire for ones that enhance them. The center of Grave Babies' sound is the sonic equivalent of thwarted desire - and on Crusher, their first LP for Hardly Art, Grave Babies take the harder approach: doing what they've always done, but doing it better.

With Sympathy is the debut album by Ministry released in 1983, with Ministry's members at the time being Alain Jourgensen and Stephen George.

The album could be considered more Synth Pop and New Wave than the harder Industrial Heavy Metal style the band developed later on albums like Twitch and The Land Of Rape And Honey. Jourgensen's fake English accent was an homage to the new wave bands he loved at the time.

    Down On The Upside

Remastered Reissue On 180 Gram Vinyl

After the huge commercial breakthrough of Superunknown-where Soundgarden expanded its attack to include pop hooks, psychedelic riffage, and production values-the foursome decided to work harder at rocking harder.

From the opening chords of Pretty Noose, the group brings out the brawny guitars and slightly leavens them with sweet harmonies. With Rhinosaur, Kim Thayil churns out more guitar-hero riffs for young America to master. Zero Chance turns to the quiet side as Chris Cornell ruminates in a depressive mood: Born without a friend/And bound to die alone. Ty Cobb floors the acceleration with no brakes. Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs is evoked within Tighten & Tighter, while No Attention ventures toward Rocks-era Aerosmith, an occasional Soundgarden touchstone.

The album's obvious centerpiece, however, is Blow Up the Outside World, with its mix of acoustic and electric guitars; it builds toward a cathartic chorus that rings true of everything Soundgarden could ever be.

    Recovering The Satellites

For their second album, Recovering the Satellites, Counting Crows crafted a self-consciously challenging response to their unexpected success. Throughout the record, Adam Duritz contemplates his loss of privacy and sudden change of fortunes, among other angst-ridden subjects. In one sense, it's no different from the subjects that dominated August and Everything After, yet his outlook is lacking the muted joy that made Mr. Jones into a hit. Similarly, the music is slightly more somber, yet the approach is harder and more direct, which gives even the ballads a more affecting, visceral feel.

After releasing three albums with Greg Ginn's underground label SST, Screaming Trees broke through in 1991 with Uncle Anesthesia on major label Epic. The band, fronted by Mark Lanegan (who would go on to collaborate solo with band members of Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age, Guns 'N Roses and Foo Fighters) is known for its raw psychedelic, whiskey voiced garage rock. This harder edge set the band apart from Seattle grunge contemporaries Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, gaining a loyal fanbase in the process. Uncle Anesthesia is produced by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) and metal producer Terry Date, known for his recordings of Pantera, Prong, Overkill and White Zombie.

    Vanishing Point

25 years in, Vanishing Point affirms that, even in an age where only the newest of the new can survive, Mudhoney still have plenty to say and more to offer. These are songs written from the rare vantage point of a band who went through the rock n' roll meat-grinder and not only lived to tell such a tale, they came out full of the wisdom and dark humor such a journey provides. Vanishing Point is filled with dread, psychoanalysis and Nuggets-on-fire riffs; the sort of uninhibited rock music that is harder and harder to locate these days. You Can Get It If You Really Want

Pressed On Black & Blue Marble Colored Vinyl

    Limited To 1000 Copies

It took the 1972 release of the soundtrack to The Harder They Come to break Desmond Dekker internationally, but the King of Ska already was a legend in his own land of Jamaica, where songs like "007 (Shanty Town)" and "Rudie Got Soul" made him the face of the rude boy culture (and influenced several generations of British mods and rockers). This 1970 record, his first for the Trojan label, features Dekker's irresistible version of the Jimmy Cliff tune "You Can Get It If You Really Want," which went to #2 on the UK charts, as well as another hit, "Pickney Gal." We're reissuing this cornerstone ska/rocksteady classic on black & blue marble vinyl limited to 1000 copies first-ever reissue on wax!

    Morning View

Double gatefold sets presented on 180-gram audiophile vinyl.

Fans who discovered Incubus and their album Make Yourself through their massive radio hit Drive may be surprised that the band released a follow-up album so quickly. Yet the reality is that Make Yourself was a definitive sleeper hit, never peaking past the Top 50 of Billboard's album charts, but staying on those same charts for close to two years and in the process shifting over two million units. With each successive single that was released, the band gradually moved away from the nu-metal/Ozzfest crowd they had been initially lumped into and revealed the solid songwriting and talent for a good melody underneath the layers of surging guitars. The lessons learned from Make Yourself have definitely been applied to Morning View. While there is still a fair share of aggressive numbers (Circles, Blood on the Ground, and Under My Umbrella arguably the strongest of the harder tracks), the ratio of softer and mellower numbers have increased dramatically, to the point where hardcore fans of earlier material may be bewildered. For the most part, the transition works. Mexico is a sparsely arranged acoustic ballad that gives lead singer Brandon Boyd an opportunity to demonstrate his formidable vocal range. Are You In is an upbeat, funky tune reminiscent of Sugar Ray (and that's meant in a good way). The most offbeat track is the album closer, Aqueous Transmission, a tranquil, exotic-sounding ballad that sees the band successfully experimenting with Middle Eastern string arrangements. Not all the experiments gel (Echo), and there is a tendency, especially in the middle third of the album, for the songs to sound too similar in sound and tempo, but on the whole, Morning View is a fine follow-up to Make Yourself and a natural progression in the band's musical evolution. While it may not appeal to fans of the harder material, music lovers who like their rock a little less aggressive and a little more ambitious and, well, sensitive should give Morning View a spin.

117 Degrees (1998) is the second studio album by former Guns N' Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin, and his first musical work not released under a band name. The album picks up right where The Ju Ju Hounds left off, offering a set of 14 bluesy hard rockers in the vein of Chuck Berry, the Stones, the Faces, Aerosmith, and Guns N'Roses

117 Degrees features appearances from Stradlin's former Guns N' Roses bandmate Duff McKagan and former Ju Ju Hounds' bandmate Rick Richards, also ex-of The Georgia Satellites. The tracks "Memphis, Tennessee" and "Good Enough" feature the Ju Ju Hounds lineup, as the songs were recorded by the band before breaking up.

Good Luck and Do Your Best

Hailing from Chelmsford Essex in the UK, Gold Panda's journey from his meteoric rise on his first album to now is entirely circular. In the six years since the release of his genre-defining debut album Lucky Shiner, the electronic artist most comfortable with the moniker Derwin Panda spent the subsequent years splitting the majority of his time between London, Berlin and countless excursions to Japan.

As he created his new, third album Good Luck And Do Your Best he ultimately found himself back where he began, in the East of England. Whereas his second album Half Of Where You Live was occasionally taut, perhaps harder and more piecing, the 11 songs that comprise Good Luck And Do Your Best have a distinctly warmer palate, one that echoes Lucky Shiner a little more. Now with a clearer range of sounds, Panda has found a more cohesive vision, one where "the tracks aren't popping out against each other. It's a complete record."

    Until The Colour Runs

Following the success of their critically acclaimed debut
in 2011, Lanterns On The Lake return with a new album,
the sublime Until The Colours Run, which will be released
    October 10th on Bella Union.

The source of the music remains the same, an exquisitely
crafted blend of symphonic rock, folk and electronics but much has changed in the interim. The album was
recorded during a time of financial and personal adversity, and as a result, Until The Colours Run is more soulful
and dynamic than its predecessor. In sound, it's both
harder ('Elodie', the title track) and more luminous
('Green And Gold', 'Picture Show'), and a more emotionally and politically charged experience, as singer/lyricist
Hazel Wilde paints unflinching portraits of what she sees.
It's a haunting, often devastating combination.

"Not only have they made a better record than their
debut, they've made one of the best records of the
young decade." - DROWNED IN SOUND

    Hell Yeah

Pioneers, philosophers, trailblazers, in short: prophets always have to assemble their flocks abroad before they find due recognition in their homelands. This also applies to the German artform KMFDM. Whether in the US, Japan, Australia or elsewhere (where they sold hundred thousands of records and embarked on various sold out tours) - for over a quarter of a century they are the epitome and synonym for a musical style of the harder variety: Industrial Rock. KMFDM pioneered the crossover between techno/dance and heavy metal, creating their unique sound and were one of the first bands to bring Industrial Rock to mainstream. They influenced bands such as Rammstein with whom they were touring the US - with KMFDM headlining. The band was founded in 1984 and rapidly evolved year by year through intense experimentation and touring. They have managed to redefine themselves with every new release.

Now KMFDM are preparing to release their first new studio album in over 3 years entitled HELL YEAH via earMUSIC. An EP, YEAH! was released earlier to whet fans appetite and features some great remixes. Lead single HELL YEAH is an instant KMFDM classic with its ultra-heavy beat and Sascha Konietzko s trademark cynical lyrics. The album ranges from songs that are sometimes political (FAKE NEWS, TOTAL STATE MACHINE) to more techno/dance tracks (MURDER MY HEART and Rx 4 THE DAMNED).

With its cover artwork having been created by Aidan Hughes aka BRUTE!, HELL YEAH will be available on 2xLP Gatefold (180 Gram/45 RPM).

Somerville, Massachusetts' soft-focus pop group Gem Club features Christopher Barnes and his collaborators, cellist Kristen Drymala and vocalist Ieva Berberian. Together, they create cavernous-sounding piano-based ballads that, despite their earthly trappings, feel truly ethereal, as if they're being piped in from another planet bereft of gravity. Gem Club buries vague but revealing lyrics in delicate, sometimes somber, sometimes lighthearted melodies. There is a balance between pain and hope, a sense of growth and catharsis spawned from harder days, all complemented by the breathy vocals and symphonic instrumentation. Following their self-released six-song EP, Acid and Everything, Gem Club have made Breakers, their debut full-length album to be released via Hardly Art. Produced by Chris "Frenchie" Smith (And You Will Know Us by the Trail
of Dead, Meat Puppets, Built to Spill, Jet)

Featured in "100 Bands to Watch 2013" Alternative Press.

At the core of Talon of the Hawk, is the crazy hybrid of slamming rock drumming and acoustic guitar The Front Bottoms are known for, but this time the band augments their sound with electric guitars, synths, even a little accordion. Brian Sella's confident heartfelt vocals that will have you laughing one minute, crying the next and then maybe pumping your fist and singing along when you least suspect it. Talon of the Hawk rocks harder than their debut and it is more complex in both subject matter and arrangements. Once this sucker gets it's claws in, you're going to soar.
