    Introducing The 3 Sounds

What's remarkable about Introducing The 3 Sounds is how the trio's lightly swinging sound arrived fully intact. From the basis of this album, it sounds as if pianist Gene Harris, bassist Andrew Simpkins and drummer William Dowdy have been playing together for years. There's empathetic, nearly intuitive interplay between the three musicians and Harris' deft style already sounds mature and entirely distinctive.

    Music Composed By Hans Zimmer

Brand New Movie, Directed By Christopher Nolan

Dunkirk is a 2017 English-language war film written, co-produced and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard and James D'Arcy. The movie focusses on the evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada, and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between May 26- June 04, 1940, during the Battle of France in World War II.

The score is composed by multiple award winner Hans Zimmer. On 5 April 2017, Zimmer revealed that he was nearly finished with the score and that it would be complete by the start of his Hans Zimmer Live on Tour shows in May.

For the purpose of intensity, the script was written to accommodate the auditory illusion of a Shepard tone, which had previously been explored in Nolan's 2006 film The Prestige. This was coupled with the sound of a ticking clock, that of Nolan's own pocket watch, which he recorded and sent to Zimmer to be synthesized.

The collaborative careers of Christopher Nolan and Hans Zimmer have proven to be a success in the last decade, with examples such as Interstellar, The Dark Knight, and Inception. This score turns out to be epic once again.

Ashley Eriksson (darling to many for her work with LAKE) has achieved a status few artists ever know: her song Island Song can be hummed by almost any teenager in the United States (a surprising discovery she made while teaching Portland's
Rock Camp for Girls last summer). Used as the closing theme for Cartoon Network's cult sensation Adventure Time, Island Song has over a million views on Youtube and has generated dozens of cover videos, making Ashley Eriksson the equivalent of a household name to the youth of America.

Now Ashley Eriksson has recorded Colours [KLP245], her inspired solo debut on K, and a collection of piano pieces, ballads and songs for her fans around the world. Tucker Martine (producer of LAKE, Decemberists) planted the idea that Ashley should make a solo record after they worked together in 2011, but it wasn't until returning from a trip to Sweden that Ashley was motivated to create Colours, and her vision for a solo piano album quickly evolved to include songs with her beloved '70s style of instrumentation and pop sensibility (most strikingly her cover of Ett Stilla Regn a song by the tragic Swedish pop team Ted and Kenneth GÄrdestad, adapted in the style Me and My Arrow by Harry Nilsson). Because Ashley engineered and recorded the album herself (using the same 8-track she's been recording with since she was a teenager), she was able to capture her collection of songs in a variety of old haunts, including favorite grange halls and churches, her tiny shed in northern Sweden, friends' houses, and in the Whidbey Island studio-trailer where she lived with husband (and LAKE collaborator) Eli Moore.

It's the emotional space Ashley reserved for herself while recording Colours that makes it such a personal and vivid statement. Of writing the beautiful, lead ballad Why Are You So Helpless?" Ashley says "I dreamt this song while I was sleeping in the little shed behind my dad's house in northern Sweden. I was in a record store and a John Lennon song came on I'd never heard before. It was a 70's 'super group' album, like the Band or CSNY or something like that. When I woke up I was anxious
to capture the song. I recorded the demo on my phone and sang with an acoustic guitar I had with me." In a similar way, all the songs on Colours are collected from her dreams, expanded by graceful piano notes and the peaceful echoes of fire-lit
    evenings.

Belafonte At Carnegie Hall (Speakers Corner)

To perform in Carnegie Hall must surely be the greatest ambition of every artist, regardless of his or her style of music. But it also presents an enormous challenge, because on such an evening 'good' isn't good enough. The artist is not merely expected to perform to his or her usual high standard - the evening must be exceptional. Harry Belafonte, the charismatic and highly experienced performer, certainly managed to fulfil such expectations, as is testified to by the present double album, which has retained its place as a best-seller at the top of the charts over many years.
This performance contains three acts, as it were: Afro-American moods, Caribbean songs and excursions into music of the world. Belafonte is in top form and celebrates an exciting, sparkling festival of song, including spontaneous comic interludes, which arise from direct interaction with his enthralled and enthusiastic audience. He is brilliantly supported by Bob Corman and his 47-man orchestra, an ensemble which is reduced to a small combo when the maestro raises his husky voice. It goes without saying that all the favourites are there such as Jamaica Farewell, Day-O and Mama Look A Boo Boo, making this Carnegie Hall event one of the most mesmerizing live performances of all time, which captures the essence of the performer in his prime (All Music Guide). With this double album you too can sit in the audience and enjoy this great event.

    • Harry Belafonte (vocal)

    • Millard Thomas, Raphael Boguslav (guitar)

    • Norman Keenan (bass)

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

A favorite off the recommended list by The Absolute Sound magazine, and, as expressed in the liner notes, Harry Belafonte's favorite recording. Belafonte has never before sung on records as he does in this album. He is freer, more earthy, more exultantly identified with his material than ever before. He has always communicated an often ferocious power as well as lyrical sensitivity, but in this collection he achieves a unity of emotional strength in and understanding of his material that marks an important stage in his evolution as an artist.

Includes classic songs Cotton Fields, God Bless' The Child, Hallelujah I Love Her So. Recorded in New York City in January and March 1958, and in Hollywood, California, in June 1958.

As the liner notes by Nat Hentoff state, there is not much to say about the individual performances that is not entirely clear on hearing them. Truly a classic for discerning audiophiles, Belafonte Sings The Blues was the first Belafonte album recorded in stereo. The sound is incredible, and the dead-silent backgrounds of QRP 200-gram vinyl preserve every exquisite detail! This is one of Belafonte's most satisfying set of performances.

    Sweetenings (Pure Pleasure)

Harry 'Sweets' Edison, a smooth and suave trumpeter, was a cohort of orchestra leader Count Basie, a favourite of bandleader Nelson Riddle, and a noted backup artist for the most prominent vocalists of his time. Edison, with his energetic yet reticent blowing style, bridged a genre gap between the early classic jazz sound of Louis Armstrong and modern bebop modes. Edison, who played equally well in both styles, had a special talent for sustaining his trumpet notes and injecting each single tone with expression and soul never heard before or after.

The special quality of his trumpet playing earned him the nickname 'Sweets' because of the sweetness of the tones. Likewise his ability to control the tone of his trumpet brought him to the forefront as a session musician, playing accompaniments for the most respected vocalists of his time.

Edison was a true pioneer of jazz. An old-time homespun boy, born in Columbus, Ohio, he never knew with certainty even the year of his birth. According to his best knowledge, he was born in 1919, although some sources list the date as early as 1915. Edison knew even less about his own father, a Native American of the Hopi (Apache) tribe and a drifter who stayed only a few weeks with Edison's mother before taking to the road and was rarely heard from afterward. Edison spent his early years with an uncle, who was a coal miner and a farmer, in Louisville, Kentucky. It was Edison's uncle who taught the boy to play the pump organ and to play scales on an old cornet. Edison, who also listened to his uncle's records, was especially inspired by the music of Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith.

Harry Sweets Edison added something special to any date in which he took part, but these 1958 sessions he led for Roulette are especially enjoyable. Joined by either Jimmy Jones or Kenny Drew on piano and Joe Benjamin or John Simmons on bass, along with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Forrest and drummer Charlie Persip, Edison's trumpet swings effortlessly through a batch of standards and originals.

The loping blues Centerpiece became a classic jazz composition, recorded by numerous jazz artists, but this was its debut appearance on LP. Jive at Five dates from his years with Count Basie and finds the band sticking to an accompanying role in this swinging but brief arrangement. Edison utilizes a mute in the gently swinging Louisiana, while he showboats just a bit in a brief take of It Happened in Monterey. While this record might have offered a little more variety by giving solo space to some of the talented sidemen present, this long out of print LP is well worth acquiring.

    • Harry Edison (trumpet)

    • Jimmy Forrest (tenor saxophone)

    • Jimmy Jones (piano)

    • Joe Benjamint (bass)

    Aerial Ballet (Speakers Corner)

To define in a nutshell the music of Harry Nilsson in accordance with his personality can easily become a fiasco. The American singer-songwriter might well share his reputation as a multi-talented eccentric with a number of other musicians. However, his highly unusual style and his »satirical catchy pop songs [composed] with the sparkling eye of a cynic and the tearful eye of a nostalgic« (rororo Rock Lexicon) cannot be pigeonholed. Nilsson packaged derisive lines, spiced with a pinch of self-irony, in suspiciously pleasing yet carefully selected tunes. His cultivated and astonishingly supple voice basked to the full in bittersweet phrases, aided by elaborate, melting, slushy arrangements with strings and winds. Several of the wonderfully fresh numbers from Aerial Ballet reached top places in the charts. Everybody's Talkin' became world-famous through its use in the film Asphalt Cowboy and brought Nilsson his first Grammy award. The song One soared to the top ten of the charts. The other light and airy songs now invite you to create your very own hit list. Every single number makes great listening!

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

This is the seventh studio album from multi-platinum, Grammy Award winning artist Coldplay. Front man Christ Martin stated it might be the band's final album and compared it to Harry Potter; It's our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it's like the last Harry Potter book or something like that. He added that, unlike their promotion efforts for Ghost Stories, the band will tour for the seventh record. In an interview with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, Martin hinted at the style of the album by saying that the band was trying to make something colourful and uplifting, yet not bombast. He also stated that it will be something to "shuffle your feet" to!

Ralph Carney was a founding member of the pre-Waitresses band, Tin Huey, but is best known for his long association with singer Tom Waits, and collaboration with his nephew, Patrick Carney, on the Black Keys album, Attack & Release, and occasionally joins them on stage. He was a member of the Oranj Symphonette with fellow Waits alumni Joe Gore and Matt Brubeck. Ralph has guested with Yo La Tengo and Medeski, Martin and Wood for live shows and recorded on a T-Bone Burnett-produced project the, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, with Marc Ribot and Elvis Costello (release date TBA). In 2009 he toured with They Might be Giants and in 2008 he recorded and performed with Black Francis in a score for the Silent film Der Golem. He performed on many Hal Willner-produced shows at UCLA's Royce Hall including a Tribute to Harry Smith in 2001, with a huge number of performers including Todd Rundgren, David Thomas, Phillip Glass, and David Johanson. The album, Seriously, was recorded at Getreel Studios by Robert Preston and Rugbeaters Studio by Ralph Carney in January and February, 2011. Carney has four full lengths out, including 2009's Ralph Carney's Serious Jass Project (Akroncracker Records). Carney explains I decided to do another record of tunes I loved, sticking close to the same styles as my first album. Basically a mix of honkers and screamers type saxophonists, mostly from the late 1940's through the early to mid 1950's, along side kinda obscure Ellington small band songs...I also did a couple of Coleman Hawkins tunes from his time in Europe in the 30's.

    Louisiana Blues (Colored Vinyl)

Limited Edition Of 600 On Bottleneck Brown Vinyl

Comes With A 8 Page Booklet

Over 50 years since his discovery by ethnomusicologists Dr. Harry Oster and Richard Allen in the prison farm of Angola, Louisiana, what is it that makes the blues as sung and picked by Robert Pete Williams such a singular listening experience, unequaled elsewhere in that musical form? As Peter Guralnick, in his Feel Like Going Home book writes: "It's difficult to approve the banalities of most blues singers after listening to Robert Pete Williams. More than anyone else he shatters the conventions of the form and refuses to rely upon any of the clichÉs, either of music or of lyric, which bluesman after bluesman will invoke. Instead he sings blues which reflect a unique and personal vision; he makes each song unmistakably his own."

Unfamiliar keys, clichÉ-free lyricism, spontaneity, an individualistic style in invoking his particular blues, all make Robert Pete Williams an idiosyncratic entry into the canon. It's impossible to listen to blues artists before him and hear strains of his particular style. None have matched it since. Louisiana Blues contains 10 songs recorded in the month of July 1966 out in Berkeley, California for John Fahey's Takoma imprint.

Revival Of Musical Is Currently Playing On Broadway At The Broadway Theatre

Based on Sholom Aleichem's stories about a poor milkman in late 19th century Russia, and the five daughters for whom he seeks significant weddings, this great musical, which opened at the Imperial Theatre on September 22, 1964, benefited from the portrayal of Zero Mostel as Tevye, and Jerome Robbins' splendid choreography in Boris Aronson's sets inspired by the paintings of Marc Chagall. In the profuse score created by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, If I Were A Rich Man stands out as the anthem of everyone looking for a better life. Before she became Mame's bosom buddy and a television Golden Girl, Bea Arthur played Yente, the matchmaker; and Maria Karnilova traded her stripper's outfit in Gypsy for the torn dress worn by Golde, Tevye's long-suffering and silent wife. Others who shone in the cast included Julia Migenes as Hodel; Bert Convy as Perchik, the student; Austin Pendleton, as Motel, the tailor; and Leonard Frey, as Mendel, the rabbi's son. Even though several actors (Herschel Bernardi, Luther Adler, Harry Goz, among others) played the milkman during the show's long run of 3,242 performances, Mostel's portrayal remains its supreme incarnation.

Child Is The Father To The Man

Ranked 264/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Although they would go on to become one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s, most observers agree that Blood, Sweat & Tears 1968 debut effort Child Is Father to the Man remains the ambitious ensembles finest and most enduring musical statement. The bands only album under the leadership of legendary singer / keyboardist Al Kooper, Child Is Father to the Man stands with such late-60s art-pop landmarks as the Zombies Odessey and Oracle and Loves Forever Changes in capturing the periods seemingly limitless creative possibilities.
Child Is Father to the Man is a brilliant reflection of the desire of Koopera former member of the seminal Blues Project and a key collaborator in Bob Dylans early electric workto use an expanded instrumental lineup to explore a broader range of sounds, styles and compositional approaches. Towards that end, he launched Blood, Sweat & Tears, recruiting a stellar assortment of players from the worlds of rock and jazz, including ex-Blues Project guitarist Steve Katz, former Buffalo Springfield/Mothers of Invention bassist Jim Fielder, jazz drummer Bobby Colomby and noted jazz horn players Randy Brecker, Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius and Jerry Weiss.

The resulting album (produced by fabled studio genius John Simon) was a seamlessly eclectic psychedelic-rock-jazz-classical fusion, with such diverse tracks as Koopers gritty compositions I Cant Quit Her and I Love You More Than Youll Ever Know, as well as his playfully arty House in the Country and The Modern Adventures of Plato, Diogenes and Freud, along with stirring readings of Tim Buckleys Morning Glory, Harry Nilssons Without Her and Randy Newmans Just One Smile.

Koopers expansive musical vision may have been a bit too far ahead of its time. Although it was a favorite of early FM album-rock DJs, Child Is Father to the Man barely scraped the Billboard Top 50 and failed to produce a hit single. However, in the years since, the album has been widely recognized for its expressiveness and originality, and embraced by successive generations of listeners. For instance, it received a prominent placement in Rolling Stones 2003 ranking of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Now, Child Is Father to the Man is back in its original vinyl format with Sundazeds definitive new LP edition. With meticulously reproduced original cover art, this vintage musical landmark has been remastered from the original analog master tapes and is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl.

    Phonography

Phonography was lo-fi legend R. Stevie Moores first vinyl release only 100 copies were pressed in 1976. The album (including a slightly larger 1978 pressing) barely earned the artist lunch money. But Phonography has since become the cornerstone of the Do-It-Yourself movement, while establishing Moore as the Granddaddy of home recording. Both Rolling Stone and Spin have proclaimed it one of the most influential independent releases of the past 50 years. Phonography was recorded by a self-taught control-freak, using cheap, malfunctioning analog equipment. Robert Steven Moore was born in 1952, in Nashville. His dad, veteran bassist/producer Bob Moore, taxied between sessions for major stars (including Elvis Presley). But Stevie preferred Brit Invasion, Zappa, Brian Wilsons idiosyncratic arrangements, and outliers like the Shaggs. At the urging of his supportive uncle, Harry Palmer, he moved to New Jersey in 1976.

The Phonography material was recorded by this one-man virtual band at home between 1974 and 1976 with a pair of analog open-reel stereo decks and no multi-tracking equipment. Moore built songs starting with a rhythm track (e.g., played on drums, furniture, or boxes), upon which he layered instrumental and vocal tracks in a primitive sound-on-sound technique. Multiple generations of sound caused frequency loss and sonic distortion the embodiment of lo-fi but these are charming artifacts that dont obscure the brilliance of the compositions and Moores masterful music eccentricities. Moore and Palmer culled the top-tier songs, which were interspersed with spoken word, audio veritÉ, and radio snippets to create a program effect. The song styles were eclectic, reflecting Stevies omnivorous music appetite: hard rock, sweet ballads, Britpop, guitar raves, glam, and Zappa-esque weirdness. The album laid the foundation for Moores four-decade underground career.

He has self-released hundreds of albums on each successive eras format du jour (cassette, LP, CD, digital download). Hes had vinyl and CD compilations produced worldwide on two dozen indie labels. For a songwriter with a massive catalog of prime material, Moores revenue stream has barely afforded him the luxury of replacing gear plagued by worn-out switches. Yet most of the surviving labels who turned deaf ears to R. Stevie Moore are now, like him, struggling to make a buck on their catalogs. Their corner-office execs come and go. R. Stevie Moore is still here. And Phonography is back.

Over the past years, Calvin Harris has had number 1 hit after number 1 hit with his EDM-style songs (most recently with Summer) and collaborations with the likes of Rihanna, Kelis, Dizzy Rascal, Florence Welch, Example, Ellie Goulding.

His debut album I Created Disco (2007) is much more funky and not so much EDM, but contained a handful of chartbusters as well. Acceptable In The 80s, Colours, Vegas, The Girls and Merrymaking At My Place were very successful in the European charts. James Bond: Goldfinger Soundtrack

Music Composed by John Barry and Vocals by Shirley Bassey!

This is the first of three James Bond films with a theme song sung by Shirley Bassey, whose forceful, dramatic style became a series trademark (she would go on to sing Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker). Goldfinger was composed by John Barry, with lyrics by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, and is widely acknowledged as a classic of its genre. Famously, co-producer Harry Saltzman hated the song and only agreed to use it when persuaded by Albert Broccoli.

Originally, Newley recorded a version of the theme song, but it was later re-recorded with Bassey's voice for the film and soundtrack album. In 1992, Newley's version was released for the 30th Anniversary of James Bond on film, in the compilation collectors edition The Best of Bond...James Bond.

The score was composed by Barry, making this his second, credited Bond score. The score makes regular use of instrumental arrangements of the title theme, as well as the Bond theme from Dr. No used in the gun barrel sequence . The score makes heavy use of brass. The distinctive music for Goldfinger's henchman, Oddjob, makes use of repeated strokes on a metallic anvil. Metallic chimes are also heard in many scenes associated with Oddjob or gold, notably that in which the dead golden girl is discovered. The very effective use of music and various sound effects in the film won it an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and spent 70 total weeks on the chart.

    These Are The JBs

The Unreleased Album By James Brown's Backing Band: The Bootsy Collins-lead JB's

Never-before-heard James Brown and J.B.'s originals and covers of Jimi Hendrix, Kool & the Gang, the Meters. Contains a 12-page booklet with full annotation, liner notes by Brown historian Alan Leeds and never-before-published photos.

This album is the Rosetta Stone of funk's dominant idioms, yet its existence has barely been a rumor. In 1970 James Brown perfectly captured a definitive moment in modern music when he ordered Bootsy Collins into the studio to record the tracks that would be test pressed on King Records as These Are The J.B.'s. This album is the epitome of funk music, Brown's innovation that influenced everything that came after it, from Afro-beat to disco to hip-hop. And if there is any funk ensemble as influential as Brown's, in the post-"Cold Sweat" musical landscape, it's the Parliament/Funkadelic contingent. Those two streams, as Grammy Winning James Brown historian Alan Leeds details in this album's liner notes, converged for the first time here.

This link between Brown's funk and all that followed features Bootsy and his young band running through twelve-minute instrumental take of Marva Whitney's "It's My Thing," replete with blues chord changes, alongside interpretations of the Meters, Kool and the Gang and none other than Jimi Hendrix. This is a young band's James Brown-turned-on-his-head style of funk that they nail in a one-minute vamp that pre-dates their obscure but important work as the Houseguests ensemble and embodies the essence of the psychedelic-flavored music that would propel them into the orbit of
George Clinton and his mothership, where they poked cosmic holes in funk's polyrhythmic ozone layer in the mid-1970s.

There are only two extant copies of the original King Records test press LP of These Are The J.B.'s. This, the first commercial issue of this album, was overseen by Now-Again's Egon alongside Leeds and Universal Music Group's James Brown expert Harry Weinger. It was mastered specifically for vinyl by Elysian Master's Dave Cooley from the original two-track stereo master that James Brown and his engineer Ron Lenhoff delivered to production forty-four years ago. It comes with a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Leeds and Egon and many unpublished photographs and ephemera.
