TroubleThe first thing you might notice about Hospitality's sophomore album
Trouble is what you don't hear. The process of completing Trouble
was, for the band, one of learning to accept silence, to let that empty
space exist no matter what it might awaken or evoke. You could catch
glimpses of these dark and unexplored places in the margins of
Hospitality's 2012 self-titled debut, but they are at the very heart of
Trouble. If you listen closely, you can hear a band pushing against their
own boundaries and limitations until they find the very air around
them subtly but perceptibly changed.
In its lyrics and its musical construction, Trouble is an album that
wonders about the mysteries that lurk just beyond our field of vision.
Slyly and sympathetically, Papini ponders a Saturday afternoon fishing
trip as a wrenching interplay of life and death, the perfect blue sky at
an air show as a setting for a soured romance. Papini elaborates: "Most
of the songs are about everyday environments that arouse anxiety or
unease. The ocean isn't meant for people; we aren't supposed to be
there, and some of the animals that live there are much bigger and
faster than we are in the water. I think a lot of the songs deal with this
'out of place' kind of theme, feelings of unease and the questions of
what is under you or what surrounds you."
The album unfolds like a walk on the beach or a journey to a place
you didn't know you were going. Perhaps a darker sound overall, but
Trouble begins with the trademark Hospitality pop then unfurls to
reward the listener with the more expansive stripped-down
instrumentation of side B. And here, again, is that distinctively present
silence, creating a space where an undulating synthesizer feels as alive
and mysterious as a single voice in a room.1. Nightingale

Hospitality (Awaiting Repress)The angular, intricate, and intelligent compositions of Hospitality signal a sophisticated new pop voice. Singer Amber Papinis idiosyncratic songwriting coupled with the bands rich arrangements on their self-titled debut explore youth, New York, and the bittersweet commingling of past and present in a way that feels just right, right now.
Papinis singing has a wisp of an English accent via Kansas City (she learned to sing by imitating Richard Butler on The Psychedelic Furs Talk Talk Talk) and her lyrics create a moonstruck, even cinematic vision of New York City, where the band formed in 2007.
The production by Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells) and band member Nathan Michel (guitar, drums, keyboards), who released his share of experimental bedroom pop, culminating in 2005s The Beast (Skipp/Sonig), imbues the entire record with an intimate yet prodigious sound, layering period keyboards with horns, synthesizers, and treated guitars. Live At The MatterhornThe album that captured the essence of Fat Freddy's Drop jam origins, 'Live at Matterhorn' is being released on heavyweight vinyl for the first time. Originally released on CD, the new limited edition 2LP 180gm vinyl features four tracks 'Runnin', 'Rain', 'No Parking' and 'Bounce' that span a total of 70 minutes with the songs taking up a side each. The recording was made in March 2001 when Freddys was honing its sound and chops in the Wellington underground music scene. The stage was literally the back garden of Wellington's den of inequity The Matterhorn. The audience consisted of a random collection of 30 people most of whom from memory were hospitality workers having a drink after work.Freddys had started as a few musician mates playing along to instrumental B-side records dropped by DJ MU and by 2001 had grown to a solid six piece who liked nothing better than to jam. It's Fulla Flash aka Warren Maxwell on saxophone, the fore runner to Chopper Reeds, and trombonist Hopepa aka Joe Lindsay is yet to join but Freddys distinctive hi-tek soul qualities shine through led by the velvet vocals of singer Joe Dukie aka Dallas Tamaira.'Live At Matterhorn' went on to sell Platinum in New Zealand and while it pre-dates the bands record breaking 'Based On A True Story' studio album it is a touchstone for those wanting to experience Freddys early jams, the source for where Freddys story began.LP 1

Live At Third Man RecordsYou don't need to be from the South to understand Billy Wayne Davis' particular brand of humor, but being the Nashvillians we are (both transplanted and native), this up-and-comer is one of our favorite used-to-be local (and soon-to-go-global) stand-up comedians. Davis has gone from surprising crowds at the comedy club down the road with his ''like-hillbill-ity,'' to winning over the alt comedy scene of Seattle, to hangin' with Marc Maron and working with the likes of Lisa Lampanelli, Louis CK, and Mitch Hedberg since his most recent move to Los Angeles. Third Man Records was thrilled to have Tennessee's much-missed ''thinking man's hillbilly'' to our stage for a little Southern hospitality and to record another addition to what is becoming a pretty formidable series of live comedy records. Some of our absolute favorite releases over the past seven years have been made without the use of a single guitar, and we expect Billy Wayne Davis Live at Third Man Records to join those very ranks.1. Press OnJune Carter Cash has lived a charmed life: as a child member of her name-sake kin, The Carter Family, late-night duets with Elvis Presley, a movie appearance with Robert Duvall, romance with James Dean, and a Grammy Award-winning performing and songwriting career with her husband Johnny Cash.
But, to hear her sing such moving hymns as Diamonds in the Rough is to enjoy the holy, country hospitality of a simple countrywoman of a pure and spiritual heart. On Press On are other such gems as a touching, acoustic version of Ring of Fire, which June co-wrote. Throughout this album, June plays the Autoharp, a type of strummed dulcimer that lends a light, bouncy feel to these pieces that often contain no traditional rhythm section. She displays a worldly sensibility on such folk-rock numbers as the bitter Losin You and humor mixed with wisdom in Tiffany Anastasia Lowe,a song for her granddaughter, the child of daughter Carlene Carter and husband Nick Lowe. June concludes this warm and personal release as she began it, with a moving spiritual rendition of her familys standard, Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
Press On was originally released in 1999 on the tiny Risk Records label. The album immediately garnered tremendous press accolades, culminating with a Grammy award that year. Risk Records went under shortly after release and Press On has been out of print ever since. Dualtone is proud to make this album available on vinyl for the very first time. SUNNYLAND is the Mayday Parade's 6th studio album and first with Rise Records.
The Tallahassee, Florida-based quintet (rounded out by bassist/vocalist Jeremy Lenzo, guitarist Brooks Betts and drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick) recorded this follow-up to 2015's Black Lines with longtime producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, and for the first time, also teamed with Grammy-nominated producer John Feldmann (blink-182, Panic! At the Disco) and Howard Benson (Of Mice & Men, My Chemical Romance). The result is an album built on impassioned vocals, sing-along choruses, and deeply heartfelt lyrics.
The album's title comes from an abandoned hospital where the band members hung out as teenagers. "The hospital shut down sometime in the mid-'80s but then it just stayed there for decades," says Sanders. "It was a super-creepy place-it was overgrown with vines, and still had some of the hospital beds and IV stands-but we have all these good memories of hanging out there when we were younger."1. Watermelon Slim Direct-To-DiscBill Watermelon Slim Homans is nothing if not a renaissance man. He attended Middlebury College in Vermont on a fencing scholarship but dropped out to enlist in the Army for the Vietnam War. While laid up in a Vietnam hospital bed, he taught himself upside-down, left-handed slide guitar. He worked as a truck driver, a forklift operator, a saw mill hand, a funeral officiator and at times as a small-time criminal. Due to the latter vocation, he fled Boston to lay low in Oklahoma where he farmed watermelons, hence his stage name. Hes earned two undergrad degrees along with a master's. He painted art and briefly joined Mensa. Oh, and he likes to read Shakespeare and bowls a steady 240.
No surprise then that he draws from a plenty diverse range of influences to form his unique brand of raw and honest blues. Its music as interesting as the man.

Pom PomAcross its 17 tracks and 69 minutes, pom pom is unfiltered Ariel Pink,
featuring infectious tales of romance, murder, frog princes and Jell-O.
The record sees the Los Angeles native strike it out alone, returning to
the solo moniker he has adopted for well over a decade.
From demented kiddie tune collaborations with the legendary Kim Fowley (songs such as 'Jell-O' and 'Plastic Raincoats In The Pig Parade' were
written with Fowley in his hospital room during his recent battle with
cancer), to beatific, windswept pop ('Put Your Number In My Phone',
'Dayzed Inn Daydreams'), scuzz-punk face-melters ('Goth Bomb', 'Negativ Ed'), and carnival dub psychedelia ('Dinosaur Carebears'), pom pom
could very well be Ariel Pink's magnum opus.

Legion (Original Television Series Soundtrack)Lakeshore Records presents LEGION (Original Television Series Soundtrack) by Jeff Russo.
When I first started working on LEGION, the showrunner Noah Hawley gave me some great feedback regarding the tonal palate, he suggested I read neurologist Oliver Sacks Hallucinations, said Russo. It was a fascinating read and it really did help inspire. It is all about the way that our mind can change our perception of reality and what that says about our brains. It was something that directed me right to where this amazing show was going.
LEGION, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) - a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David's routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.
I used many esoteric synths from the 70s including something called a 'synthi,' described Russo of his approach to the score. That along with a traditional cinematic orchestral sound makes up most of the sound of the score. I also used a lot of bowing metals...springs, and different kinds of metal percussion.
EMMY® and Grammy®-nominated musician, Jeff Russo has become a prominent composer, songwriter and arranger in the film and television industry. Russo received two Emmy nominations for his memorable music on FX's Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series, Fargo. He is currently scoring the third season of the show, as well as Starz's hit drama Power. Russo's music was recently heard on HBO's hit Golden Globe-nominated miniseries The Night Of.1. Young David

Feeling The SpaceIf you've listened to Feeling the Space, Yoko Ono's personal-is-political 1973 album, it should come as no surprise that the once-reviled artist is inspiring a new generation of activists in 2017.On such songs as the righteous chant "Woman Power," the empathetic ballad "Angry Young Woman," the hilarious proto-grrrl "Potbelly Rocker," and the satirical "Men Men Men," Yoko sings in surprisingly straightforward fashion about the burdens carried by women and the mandate for feminism. Supported by such skilled studio vets as guitarist David Spinozza, sax player Michael Brecker, and drummer Jim Keltner, this is perhaps Yoko's most accessible album, and her most intimate.
Feeling the Space was recorded during the time when the avant-garde visionary artist became estranged from her rock-star husband John Lennon. He plays only briefly on the album (billed as Johnny O'cean); she produced and wrote all the songs. The result is a definitive soundtrack/document of the era of consciousness raising and of radical critique of the family structure. Yoko and company deliver this hard message soft rock style, or as soft as Yoko could get. Yoko was on the front lines of the women's liberation movement. Dedicated "to the sisters who died in pain and sorrow and those who are now in prisons and in mental hospitals for being unable to survive in the male society," it's an emotional exploration of the psychological toll of oppression.1. Live It Out (Awaiting Repress)Live It Out is the second album released by the Canadian indie rock band Metric. It was originally released in September 27, 2005 on Last Gang Records.
Toronto's Metric has the ability to appeal to fans on a number of levels: the group captures the likeability of Elastica with the cheekiness of Blondie and then mixes that new wave style with just enough of a growling guitar to give it some oomph. Since their last release, the acclaimed Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, Metric's sound has morphed slightly; this follow-up is a little more guitar-based and slightly less electronic than their last, a move likely to broaden their fan base even further.
Metric's rock-meets-new-wave is not only timely, it is joyful to boot. The driving track Handshakes could easily qualify for the next ipod commercial, while Monster Hospital's retro punk style has a Clash-inspired chorus that will stay in your head for days. By the same token, the band's musical diversity is especially evident in the beautiful The Police and the Private, where one could easily imagine that they are listening to an up-tempo Sarah Harmer track. Metric's cross-genre appeal is at least party due to frontwoman Emily Haines' delivery. A smart writer and performer, Haines' contributions to the Broken Social Scene collective have already made her voice somewhat familiar, and in her own element she shines especially bright. From her delicate whispers (the Pink Floyd-esque Ending Start) to her Eurotrash-inspired yelps (Live It Out) Haines has the it factor that makes indie rock critics swoon, and keeps fans dedicated. --Denise Sheppard1, Empty

Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is RisingPressed On Opaque Pink Vinyl
Southern California's Dayseeker has revealed key details about their new album and Spinefarm Records debut, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising.
Frontman Rory Rodriguez told AP:
This song is not only the start of our album, but it's also written for our dear friend who was a victim of sexual assault. This is a huge issue that we wanted to write about, not only to bring to light the trauma a person goes through when this happens but to hopefully offer solace to those same people as well.
Regarding the album, Rodriguez furthered:
This album is our proudest work to date. From beginning to end, you will hear a full concept album following the journey of a man who has fallen into a deep coma and his long journey to escape the mental prison he finds himself in.
The album operates off an intricate concept: A man avenges the unspeakable crimes committed against his wife only to be bludgeoned into a coma. Locked in a vegetative state, changes erupt throughout his world, spanning the dissolution of his marriage and the death of his estranged mother. While his hospital bed doubles as a front row seat to the chaos, questions arise
Is any of this happening? Is it real? What does it mean?
Some of the answers may or may not be encoded within the 12 tracks comprising Dayseeker's 2017 conceptual third full-length album, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising. Maintaining an inimitable and infectious intensity, the music represents a marked evolution for the Orange County group.1. Dreaming Is Sinking

Jekyll/HydeJekyll / Hyde is the debut EP from Taryn Blake Miller who records under the name Your Friend.
Written and recorded over a two year period in her adopted hometown of Lawrence, Kansas, Miller used
live performances to develop the songs gradually both as a solo performer as well enlisting the help of a
rotating cast of supporters from the town's music community.
Fusing warm atmospheric guitars with a focused and emotionally rich sense of song craft, Your Friend
presents a keen balance of experimentation and structure. Momentum carries these creations through
dramatic shifts that feel surprising, inevitable and always authentic. Fragmentary and evocative, Miller's
lyrics are a collage of details taken from her life as well as her friends and family. Born in her bedroom and
developed on stage, Miller describes the record as "deeply personal. For a long time it was hard to play
these songs out because they were written for myself."
Miller and co-producer Jordan Geiger (bandleader for Hospital Ships), set out to capture her intimate live
energy but with refinements. Though her bare-bones stage show was in high demand, eventually going
from playing Lawrence house parties and clubs to opening for national acts who passed through locally,
she wanted the songs to be more fleshed out for the record. Bringing in bass, drums and keyboards, as
well as layered guitars and vocals, Miller self-released Jekyll/Hyde in August 2013 to an already devoted
fan base that quickly multiplied. For the Domino release, Miller ahas added even more depth with freshly
recorded live drums and vocals. The result is a captivating debut that sounds fully realized in its ideal
When asked for the significance of the name Your Friend, Miller gets to the fundamental core of her
music: That there is power in leaving yourself exposed, to trusting a part of yourself with people who
don't know you. "I really like the risk in being vulnerable to someone," Miller says. "There's risk in music
that way; I feel that at every show. It could go terribly wrong but that's what I thrive on."1. Bangs

Keep It SafeIn late 2012, Wild Ones was on the verge of collapse. Guitarist Clayton Knapp had blown out an eardrum, the band's original drummer left the group and his replacement, Seve Sheldon, was in the hospital with a punctured lung, practicing songs on a drum pad with a tube sticking out of his chest. The band's members had funneled all of their money into a debut record, Keep It Safe, that had taken a year to write and nine months to record and mix. Fans and followers began to wonder if that record would ever see the light of day. It was make-or-break time.
Wild Ones made.
Instead of folding in the face of financial drama, injuries and personnel changes, Wild Ones took a deep breath and adjusted to its new surroundings. This band is used to adjusting. Since its formation in 2010, Wild Ones has insisted on operating as a DIY collective. The band recorded and mixed its debut as a group (with help from engineer David Pollock). Sometimes considering each members' opinion meant endless revisits and tweaks to the album's tracks. The process was time-consuming, but it was also worth it. "That was a reaction to the bands we had been in before," says lead vocalist Danielle Sullivan. "This band was born out of our desire to have a democratic, all-inclusive music-making process."
Going it alone-even the artwork on Keep It Safe was created by Wild Ones keyboardist Thomas Himes-comes with its fair share of challenges. Most of Wild Ones' debut was recorded in a two-story East Portland warehouse rehearsal space, where the band was surrounded on all sides by rock acts like Quasi and the Thermals. Wild Ones would get to their practice space around 8 am to record, often grabbing quick takes between thunderous drum solos from down the hall. "Somewhere on the record, if you listen close enough, you can probably hear the metal band next door," Himes says.
"When we went in that room in March, it was raining," says Knapp. "When we finished recording in October, it was raining."
Keep It Safe, the album that finally emerged after well over a year of gestation, is bigger than the sum of its meticulously gathered parts. Even now, the band's sound continues to evolve. Wild Ones' members come from vastly disparate musical backgrounds-guitarist Nick Vicario was a Portland punk icon long before he turned 18; bassist Max Stein is a classical composer-and all of their experiences inform pop music that is influenced by everything from german techno to American R&B. These are sounds that don't usually come packaged together, but in the able hands of Wild Ones, they seem like a perfectly natural fit.1. Golden Twin
