    Sacred Ground

Howling's album Sacred Ground stands for many things at once: collaboration, improvisation, simplicity, unexpected happenstance. "Our process was very, very organic. For both of us, it's just about the creation. Each song has a little journey of its own. The vision's beautiful between us because there's a lot of trust. It's very intuitive process where we fall in love with on element of the song or one element of a though, and we follow that until both of those ideas have been met." - Ry X, Howling.

Black Pistol Fire is a Canadian Rock and Roll duo that splits time between Toronto, Ontario and Austin, Texas. Their wild and energetic rock-and-roll sound has been described as a mix of classic southern rock and garage punk, garnering comparisons to early Kings of Leon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The White Stripes, and Clutch. The band features Kevin McKeown on Guitar/Lead Vocals and Eric Owen on Drums. The two have been friends since kindergarten and began playing music together when they discovered a shared passion for rock and roll music in high school.

While playing a local Austin hotspot, Producer Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Von Bondies, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) approached the band about recording their 2011 record. They have supported the likes of Weezer, BRMC, Band of Skulls, State Radio, Shonen Knife, and Lucinda Williams. The band recorded their 2nd LP in the early 2012 with producer Michael Rocha in Toronto. This album, Big Beat 59, was released in August 2012, with songs with the album being put into rotation on major taste-making radio stations KEXP, KCRW, KUTX, and KDHX.

The band gained further momentum during SXSW 2013 where The Huffington Post called the band 'the next big thing' and 'the most energetic and musically versatile of all the bands playing the festival'.

Hush or Howl was again recorded with Michael Rocha, this time in Austin, TX.

Buzz Or Howl Under The Influence Of Heat

What Makes a Man Start Fires? marked a real step forward for the Minutemen, and while Double Nickels on the Dime was where the group would reach their peak, there were plenty of signs pointing to that album's diverse brilliance on this eight-song EP. While 'Dreams Are Free, Motherfucker!' and 'The Toe Jam' are goofy, noisy throwaways (hey, this was a EP sandwiched between albums), the rest of the songs found the band consolidating their strengths and growing even tighter and more confident. 'I Felt Like a Gringo' and 'Cut' merge funky rhythms with a punk rocker's sense of concision, 'Self Referenced' and 'The Product' reveal how far this band's writing had progressed since The Punch Line, and 'Little Man With a Gun in His Hand' showed the Minutemen could reduce the tempo and the volume and still create stunning music. It's hard to think of a stronger rhythm section in an independent band in the 1980s than Mike Watt and George Hurley, and D. Boon was by any standards a superb guitarist, with smarts, style, and a keen sense of how to edit himself. Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat remains a superb record from a band just edging into greatness. - All Music Guide

Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume

Known for being one of the most incendiary and influential bands in hardcore and modern metal history, apocalyptic heavy music icons INTEGRITY return with their highly anticipated, 12th studio album entitled Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume. A conceptual foretelling of the final days of Armageddon, Howling... is a manifestation of pentecostal nightmares and religious depravities, wrought with fire and brimstone sermons and occult prophecies bathed in waves of destruction. Now with almost 30 years of creating dark and terrifying anthems under their belt, INTEGRITY have honored their past musical legacy while fearlessly moving forward into unchartered territory on what is undoubtedly their most elaborate and ambitious effort to date

    The Loudest Engine

    Import

A raw, psychedelic third studio album, and the sequel to 2009′s Radio Wars, The Loudest Engine finds Howling Bells, the Australian-formed, London-based four piece comprised of singer/guitarist Juanita Stein and her brother Joel (lead guitarist), drummer Glenn Moule, and bassist Brendan Picchio, forging a sonic union with Nevadas expansive surroundings and Las Vegass street-soiled vibe. It results in 12-songs that burn with a ferocious intensity from clipping garage blues to end of the world freak outs and heart-bruised laments. Produced by The Killers' bassist Mark Stoermer.

    The Twin/Tone Years

This American rock band, formed in 1979, is considered a pioneer of alternative rock. Unlike many of their underground contemporaries, The Replacements played heart-on-the-sleeve rock songs that combined Westerberg's raw-throated adolescent howl with self-deprecating lyrics. They were a notoriously wayward live act, often performing under the influence of alcohol and playing fragments of covers instead of their own material. (via Wikipedia)

    Songs: Ohia

Albino deer have crept from thick blankets of bayou fog, dusty country roads bear witness to crawling men resembling tattered garbage bags, Civil War remnants pick fragile banjos for the dancing campfire dead... This I have seen yet not one of these glorious sights equals the power of Songs: Ohia... Another offering shall calm the howl from an angry cold winters' night. To a shattered slab of stone on the unforgiving coast of Canada. Thanks.

    Orthodox

Los Angeles-based indie rock band Beware of Darkness are set to release their debut album, Orthodox, on May 7 via Bright Antenna Records.

Recorded at the Sound Factory and Valley Recorder in Hollywood, CA, executive produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Nine Inch Nails), and produced by Greg Gordon and frontman Kyle Nicolaides, Orthodox proves itself to be a sensuous experience - aimed somewhere between the gut and dirty dive bar - but death, and its implications for the living, is wrestled with on nearly each of the album's twelve blistering tracks. Anticipation for the album has been building since the band released their beloved Howl EP last year that earned instant acclaim and launched the single Howl, a song that has already hit Top 40 Rock Radio with over 26 stations playing it in regular rotation and whose video premiered on FUSE. Additionally, the band will be featured as Artist of The Month on all Clear Channel radio station homepages in March.

The working title was Bleak but it eventually became Orthodox, reveals Nicolaides of his band's long-awaited album. I kept writing that word down in my journals. The first half means right and true, the second half means belief. I think the record is a lot about that too - about coming into awareness. Lyrically, Nicolaides cites literary influences, Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, and David Foster Wallace. He delivers scathing lyrical content in a snarling howl tackling subject matters of depression, chaste women, pedophile priests, and post-modern paranoia. Incredibly potent and precise, these are lyrics are meant to evoke reactions.

    Paths To Charon

Fans of the current 1970's retro rock explosion can add another band to their list of pick-me-ups: Sweden's Skanska Mord are yet another Small Stone signee with a taste for the Nazareths and Atomic Roosters of old.

There is also something of the Seattle psychedelic scene in 'Paths To Charon'. Wah-wahing guitars (think Valis and Screaming Trees) open up the first track 'Dark Caves of Our Mind' on this sophomore record, while Jan Benggtson's bluesy howl owes a bit to the vocal work of Alice in Chains' Layne Staley and Soundgarden's Chris Cornell.

The band's lyrics range from the traditional doom'n'gloom of metal's pioneers, with tunes like the plodding 'A Black Day' making no bones about the terrible state of things, while 'Lords of Space and Time' and 'Alien Encounter' take the listener on excursions elsewhere. 'Laggasen' eases things back a bit for its intro, with some tootling keyboards parting briefly for some harder-edged guitar work.

Folks with Graveyard, Horisont and Kadavar on their playlist should check them out.

    Maze of Woods

Inventions are the collaborative sum of longtime friends Matthew Cooper of Eluvium, and Mark T. Smith of Explosions In The Sky. Their 2014 eponymous debut album introduced an ambition to create music that was both challenging and comforting. Their new album, Maze of Woods, opens with a vocal sample declaring, I wanted to do something that I don't know how to do. Using this as a mission statement, Inventions have crafted a complex and exuberant album from an array of instruments, samples, found sounds, beats, chants, and raw bursts of noise, with a much greater emphasis on strong vocal accompaniment in every song. Two albums released in the span of 10 months speaks to the drive that these two have felt since they started playing together. Much like on the first record, they again mixed the album in a house on the Oregon coastline, with final mixing and production all done by Smith and Cooper. Inventions have stated that much of the inspiration for Maze of Woods comes from the closing paragraph of Denis Johnson's novella Train Dreams. In that paragraph, Johnson describes the nonverbal howl of a feral wolf boy, a pre-language that is yearning and instinctual; a statement of wordless distress and love. Maze of Woods is the product of two masters of their craft getting lost in the wilderness, doing something that they don't know how to do, and emerging with something wholly unexpected and beguilingly beautiful.

    Negative Scanner

Negative Scanner have been destroying rooms in Chicago's vibrant DIY since 2012, earning well-deserved accolades as one of the cities best live bands. Their electrifying debut album finds the band taking on all comers; guitarist/vocalist Rebecca Valeriano-Flores' gutteral howl & lyrics have gained confidence over the course of the band's previous two singles in 2014 (their debut on Trouble In Mind & it 's follow-up on Tall Pat Records). The band (guitarist Matt Revers, bassist Nathan Beaudoin & drummer Tom Cassling) have evolved into a lurching, post-punk tornado furiously spinning into near-chaos but never leaving the band's capable control. The album's opener "Ivy League Asshole" sets the tone - feral & ragged guitars chug over the rhythm section & Flores' manic yelp spits out lyrics borne out of confusion, agression, domination & submission to life, living, lovers & beyond. The album's eleven tracks in 28 minutes fly by the lsitener, threatening whiplash but begging to be replayed. Negative Scanner 's s/t debut was recorded by the band themselves in their practice space, mixed by Mike Lust 's Phantom Mobile Unit & mastered by Australian legend Mikey Young (Total Control/Eddy Current Suppression Ring).

    New Beginnings

RADIO MOSCOW are a perfect example of the classic full-throttle power trio. Though by no means devoid of nuance and detail, the first thing one notices while standing in front of the band as they begin to unleash their stage show, is the feeling of being blown back by a whirlwind of energy and power, concocted by three guys locked in a groove. Led by Stratocaster genius Parker Griggs, RADIO MOSCOW have carved their own sonic niche fusing crunching, heavy Sabbath-style chords with fiery 'Hendrixian' solos and a raw intensity that is addictive and captivating, also citing the likes of Cream, Blue Cheer and Led Zeppelin as further influences.

Now, RADIO MOSCOW are gearing up for an exciting new chapter in their career with the release of the fifth studio album "New Beginnings" on Century Media Records. From the bursting guitar licks of opening track "New Beginning" over to the road dog anthem "Driftin'" and the Hendrix-like groove of "No One Knows Where They've Been", from the pounding "Pacing" to moody album closer "Dreams", RADIO MOSCOW present an authentic and electrifying mix of versatile guitar play, the passionate raw howl of Parker Griggs and a tight, energetic rhythm section. Sure, this is retro, but it's executed with heart, soul and class!

    Hoodoo Man Blues

Hoodoo Man Blues is not only Junior Wells' initial appearance on record, it is damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45's by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc. but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of limitations of juke-box/airplay promotion as Delmark does here. Hoodoo Man Blues is the real Chicago blues from a true blues legend.

This debut is an orchestrated, danceable tantrum. It's flamboyant and deviant, taking you to a steamy jungle filled with sounds of howling animals in heat. Stylistically, Beep Beep draws from traditional art rock elements (XTC, Klaus Nomi, Wire, Kate Bush), while simultaneously exuding present and future genres. The lyrics stand alone as titillating prose, exploring themes of office culture as well as religious, environmental, and sexual deviance.

    Maudlin

Maudlin is often a satiric commentary on the state of contemporary life, from the futility of sadness, self-pity, and ennui (Sitting On The Sidewalk, Now That I'm Home) to economic and social inequities (Got Alot Of Gull, Only The Times Are Changing) to the anesthetizing effects of technology (Computer Screens And TVs). With dishwater-colored and cracked glasses, Capgun Coup are almost modern, Midwestern Holden Caulfields û howling with restless dissatisfaction in anguished, dissonant vocals and armed with guitars.

    Blessed Black Wings (Awaiting Repress)

Massive power trio High on Fire are a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume. Equal parts molten metal and earthquake panic, the band's Motorhead-meets-Slayer roar is outrageously loud and absolutely punishing. Guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike (ex-Sleep) unleashes a devastating combination of bombastic guitar and howling war cries, weaving fantastical tales of supernatural beasts, forgotten battles and rivers of blood over an unstoppable bass and drum assault.

    I See The Light

Sourced from the Original Mono Master Tapes for the First Time!

The versatile Five Americans were so tapped into the heroic pop scene of 1965-66, they were able to pen brilliant original material that could, at times, sound something like the raw garage howl of the Rolling Stones, the jangle of the Byrds, the psychedelic mystery of Jefferson Airplane or the PhD folk-rock of Simon & Garfunkel.

Best of all, lead guitarist Mike Rabon, keyboardist John Durrill, rhythm guitarist Norman Ezell, bassist Jim Grant and drummer Jimmy Wright, put their own distinct stamp on a string of smashes that began with the mighty "I See the Light" in early 1966.

Hailing from Oklahoma, this hungry quintet hit the jackpot when they moved en masse to Dallas and hooked up with the red-hot Abnak label, run by John Abnor, Sr. Their debut longplayer, I See the Light, was a perfect snapshot of what made 1966 a watershed year for rock. The song of the same name opens with what may be the most famous held organ note in rock history, then turns to a stomping bass line that would have been the envy of Slade's Doc Marten army six years later.

"Goodbye" is a perfect extension of the Slick-Balin vocal tandem about to catch fire in San Francisco. "I Know They Lie" has that Byrds/Brummels Rickenbacker jangle down pat. "Don't Blame Me" and "It's a Crying Shame," a pair of snarling garage-rock nuggets, go directly for the jugular with results every bit as lethal as anything ever cut in the Lone Star state.

This 180g vinyl-only release is impeccably sourced from the original mono master tapes, the first time the album has been re-released in ultra-honest, bone-crunching mono!

    Horrible Chamber

Gnaw is a New York quintet featuring former Khanate belligerent Alan Dubin. Water Rite-- the first philippic from their forthcoming second LP Horrible Chamber-- is a delightful seven-minute span of punishment. As drums splatter against a multi-dimensional electronic framework, crisscrossing howls and ghoulish utterances suggest Pere Ubu jamming with Wolf Eyes on the bow of a sinking ship. Dubin's venomous speak-sing has lost nothing since Khanate's heyday, but with Gnaw, his stately menace is replaced by red-eyed paranoia.

    Feels Like

Bully is the name for the Nashville quartet that is transforming familiar '90s alt-rock (Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Weezer) into smart, sharp-edged millennial indie rock - an apt description for the band's churning guitars, rambunctious rhythms, and tightly coiled intensity. Their debut Feels Like sounds alternately like a balled fist and a fresh bruise.

Bully is also the perfect distillation of frontwoman Alicia Bognanno's visceral approach to songwriting. She trades in steely observations, raw-nerve confessions, and intense anger directed almost exclusively at herself although a few bystanders and bad exes might get caught in the crossfire. Her voice rises from sugar-sweet to scratchy howl as she bares her most harrowing fears to the world. In other words, Bognanno is her own bully. Not merely the band's vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, and all-around visionary, she is also Bully's producer and engineer.

Based in Nashville, Alicia Bognanno formed Bully essentially as a solo project backed by a trio of friends: Stewart Copeland on drums, Clayton Parker on guitar, and Reece Lazarus on bass. Bully is less a studio entity than a stage act, one that has quickly developed a reputation for its ferocious live shows (the Nashville Scene named Bully the top local band in its 2014 Best of Nashville issue.)

On record, Bully strives to retain the band s formidable guitar attack while highlighting her boldly candid lyrics. The band recorded Feels Like live in the studio, doing as few takes as possible. Once they'd gotten a good performance, the songs were mixed immediately, not merely to save time but to preserve the excitable urgency of the music. Overseeing every part of the process put extra pressure on Bognanno to deliver some truly unbridled vocal performances. A deeply personal album by an artist bravely mining her own life, Feels Like is all about trying to figure yourself out about holding yourself accountable and acting like an adult in a society that doesn't offer very many good examples.
