    Lantern

This summer Hudson Mohawke will release Lantern, his first solo full length in nearly six years. The producer has been on a meteoric rise, working with some of the biggest names in hip hop, pop and dance music. From age 15 he was an award winning scratch DJ producing happy hardcore on cracked software - he came to define a generation of electronic fusion producers but unlike many of his peers, Hudson has matured into a fully fledged contemporary hitmaker continually working to break the mold. Born of the underground club scene in the UK, 'Hud Mo' has been cultivating a formidable presence in the community, right from the earliest days producing on Fruityloops from his bedroom. His US break-out came in 2012 with TNGHT, the collaborative project with fellow producer Lunice, which saw their production influence the A-list in rap (being jumped on by the likes of Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne) and help reintroduce the US dance / EDM scene to Hip Hop as club music. In the two years following, Hudson has worked on releases from Drake, Kanye West, John Legend, Young Thug, Pusha-T, and Antony Hegarty. Despite becoming one of pops go-to producers, to his avid fans he's never been tied to one genre - and with Lantern we hear the realization of everything he has been working on since that Glasgow bedroom.

The Seneca is AmpsandSound's nod to studio monitors. Inspired by the flat response and dynamic range of the best studio monitors from TAD and JBL, the Seneca is a 2way horn loaded monitor. They've combined a massive 15" woofer for effortless bass and 2" beryllium compression driver provides for lighting fast transient, wide bandwidth and ultra-low distortion.

The Seneca like the Hudson is a partial horn-loaded loudspeaker system configured as an ultra-wide bandwidth 2way. The foundation of the Seneca is a direct radiating 15" woofer for low frequencies, providing usable bass into the 35hz range and crossing to the Mid-Horn @ 500hz. The Seneca mates a modern high-efficiency compression driver to Elliptical traxtrix horn. The reduction of a crossover point and driver increases coherence without sacrificing high frequency information. The concept of the Seneca is to have big horns, state of the art crossovers and drivers into the smallest form factor possible; and yielding bass response, efficiency, dynamic capabilities, low distortion, and scale of much larger designs in a much smaller enclosure.

The Seneca had long been utilized by ampsandsound's founder in his personal system due to its more relaxed presentation. The core design was revisited with the development of the Hudson. Now paired with our newest crossover design and utilizing one of the most a calmed mid ranges, the Senenca was transformed into a loudspeaker capable of life like realism. Gone was the reference to a good sounding speaker, but now music was described as hearing the artist just feet away from you; as if you were at the counsel in the studio and they were playing to just you.

Its compact size makes it capable of being installed into even small most rooms, minimizes room interactions. Front ported and horn loaded reduces back wall interaction. The Seneca offers dynamic range, life like scale, tonal accuracy will appeal to audiophiles who desire all of the positive attributes of horn-loaded designs but without the issues of size and room interaction that are inherent to many designs.

The Seneca features a state of the art hand-wired crossover network, which utilizes high-order filters, and minimal driver lover lap, through use of large air-core inductors for low signal loss. If the heart of the Seneca is its horns and midrange, the crossover represents its cerebral cortex. The Seneca is art though design, providing detail rich rendering without coloration. Its crossover minimizes frequency overlap, and achieves phase coherence and perfect time alignment. Its crossover is hand-made and built to the same rigorous standards as our amplifiers and loudspeakers, utilizing Hyper-litz inductors and low Q capacitors. Each crossover weighs more than 15 pounds and is unlike anything you've seen or heard in horn-loaded loudspeakers.

The Seneca's bass section utilizes a 15 woofer in a direct-radiating configuration that is front-ported to minimize interaction with front walls. Through the use of FFT analysis, ampsandsound has carefully built an inert cabinet that features strategic bracing and dampening. As a result, the Hudson is capable of high output with minimal excursion, and greatly reduced levels of distortion over conventional designs.

The heart of the Seneca is its large CNC-cut midrange horn, which utilizes a hybrid tractrix flare, providing controlled horizontal dispersion and limiting vertical dispersion to reduce room interactions. The midrange horn is mated to a 2 large-format midrange compression driver with beryllium diaphragm. No need for a tweeter with a midrange capable of extending past 20khz and providing a rule flat midrange. The combination of a large, precision-made wood horn with a large throat and large midrange compression driver has resulted in a midrange that is tonally accurate, yet rich with detail. The midrange is smooth, fast-sounding, and easy to listen to for hours.

The Hudson is a partial horn-loaded three-way loudspeaker system. Utilizing a direct radiating 15" woofer for low frequencies, and modern high-efficiency compression drivers mated to state-of-the-art horns which cover the all important midrange and highest frequencies, these big horn, small form loudspeakers offer the bass response, efficiency, dynamic capabilities, low distortion, and scale of much larger designs in a much smaller enclosure.

The Hudson began life as a design project which attempted to marry the virtues of direct radiating bass with the largest horns possible. Initially, the Hudson was a two-chassis design. After a great deal of testing, and experimentation with different cabinet designs, Ampsandsound were successful in our quest to create a true full-range speaker system operating from 34hz - 20khz in a single enclosure.

Its compact size makes it easier to install in most rooms and minimizes room interactions. The Hudson offers a delicate balance of scale, tonal accuracy, and rich detail in a design that will appeal to audiophiles who desire all of the positive attributes of horn-loaded designs but without the issues of size and room interaction that are inherent to many designs.

The loudspeaker features a sophisticated, hand-wired crossover network, which utilizes high-order filters, and large air-core inductors for low signal loss. If the heart of the Hudson is its horns and midrange, the crossover represents its cerebral cortex. Ampsandsound spent countless hours on the crossover, in order to create a state-of-the-art design that minimizes frequency overlap, and achieves phase coherence and perfect time alignment.

All three crossovers are hand-made and built to the same rigorous standards as our amplifiers and loudspeakers, utilizing Hyper-litz inductors and low Q capacitors. Each combined crossover weighs more than twenty-two pounds and is unlike anything you've seen or heard in horn-loaded loudspeakers.

The Hudson's bass section utilizes a 15 woofer in a direct-radiating configuration that is front-ported to minimize interaction with front walls. Through the use of FFT analysis, ampsandsound has carefully built an inert cabinet that features strategic bracing and dampening. The heart of the Hudson is its large CNC-cut midrange horn, which utilizes a hybrid tractrix flare, providing controlled horizontal dispersion and limiting vertical dispersion to reduce room interactions. The midrange horn is mated to a 2 large-format midrange compression driver with a 4 voice coil. The combination of a large, precision-made wood horn with a large throat and large midrange compression driver has resulted in a midrange that is tonally accurate, yet rich with detail. The midrange is smooth, fast-sounding, and easy to listen to for hours.

The tweeter combines a 1 compression driver coupled to conical-tractrix hybrid horn providing exceptional polar responses without dips and peaks associated with other horn designs. The Hudson's tweeter offers both great extension, detail, and a true sense of airiness; which allows the loudspeaker to create a large and deep soundstage even when placed close to the wall behind it.

    Terraplane

Terraplane takes its title from the 1930s Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit model, which also inspired the Robert Johnson song, "Terraplane Blues." It is Earle's 16th studio album since the release of his highly influential 1986 debut Guitar Town. As its title suggests, the album is very much a blues record, some of which was written while Earle toured Europe alone for five weeks with just a guitar, a mandolin and a backpack

    Simone Felice

Over the course of a year, this Catskill Mountains-based artist found the most deeply resonant places in which to play guitar and sing, settings that were as haunted in their rafters as he felt in his bones: a barn near his house, a church in London, an abandoned high school building by the Hudson River. What he created in these hushed, hallowed places is music that could be called folk but that has running through it a ghostly gospel-like feel. Occasionally helping him realize his vision were his brothers and former band-mates in The Felice Brothers and his friends from Mumford & Sons.

    Transistor Radio

    M. Ward describes Transistor Radio as a collection of songs "about childhood memories of a utopian radio power..." and dedicates the album to "the last of the remaining independent radio stations." Opening with a beautiful John Fahey-esque instrumental rendition of the Beach Boys' "You Still Believe in Me," Transistor Radio continues down a dusty well-worn road full of timeless, uniquely American stories. Ward's distinctly weathered voice and intricate guitar playing are helped along with an impressive group of guests incuding Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley), Howe Gelb (Giant Sand) and Jordan Hudson (The Thermals).

    The Damnwells

Indie rock band the Damnwells, will be releasing a new, self-titled album featuring the original four band members which is the first album since 2006 to include the original band lineup. (The original members of the Damnwells are Alex Dezen [lead vocals, guitar, piano], David Chernis [lead guitar], Ted Hudson [bass], and Steven Terry [drums/percussion].) Since 2006, Dezen continued to make Damnwells records with a cast of talented musicians to fill in the blanks. But for the forthcoming self-titled album, he and his former comrades decided to "get the band back together" for real and joined producer Salim Nourallah (Old 97s) in the studio to capture the magic. They recorded at the intimate Tree Fort Studios in Austin, TX, where they sought, as Dezen says, to "capture as much live as possible." "What this record represents is four guys, 15 years, a few defeats, and a ton of tiny victories," says Dezen. "What this record means to me is more than what you hear carved into the wax. This is about coming together. It's about brotherhood. It's about making music together. We have never been more excited to share anything with the fans." Dezen and Hudson met at Bard College in 1996 and played in a string of college bands together before they both moved to Brooklyn in 2000. There they met Terry (who was fresh off a stint playing with Ryan Adams' former band, Whiskeytown) and started jamming together. The trio began playing shows at now-defunct clubs throughout Brooklyn and the Lower East Side of Manhattan, sometimes with various guitar players and sometimes as a three-piece. At the end of 2000, Chernis joined them and they christened themselves the Damnwells. The band released its first EP ("PMR") in 2001, then signed to Epic Records and released "Bastards of the Beat" in 2003. The follow-up, "Air Stereo" (which was the last album featuring the original line-up), was recorded for release on Epic but was instead picked up and released by Rounder Records in 2006. "Golden Days," the single from "Air Stereo," was a top 20 Triple A charting song and was also the name of a documentary film about the band released in 2007. Over the years, the Damnwells toured relentlessly, sharing stages with The Fray, the Dixie Chicks, Old 97s, Cheap Trick, and Bob Dylan, to name a few. The Damnwells release "One Last Century" (2009), featured Hudson and Dezen and was given away for free via Paste magazine's website. It was followed by the fan-funded record, "No One Listens to the Band Anymore," which came out in 2011.

    More Parts Per Million

The Thermals celebrate their 10-year anniversary by reissuing their three Sub Pop albums on vinyl. More Parts Per Million is the band's debut album, originally released by Sub Pop on March 4th, 2003. The Thermals were created in 2002 by singer Hutch Harris in his Portland-area kitchen. By that summer, they was a rock band in the flesh, with Kathy Foster on bass, Jordan Hudson on Drums and Kind of Like Spitting's Ben Barnett on the guitar. The Thermals play with a joyous frenzy not unlike the idiosyncratic guitar driven indie-punk of the Wedding Present, with lyrics spewed forth from the same oblique etherland as Guided By Voices. More Parts Per Million has sold over 12,000 copies, and the vinyl has been out of print for years. Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie mixed the album at The Hall of Justice studio in Seattle, WA.

    Almanac

Widowspeak is an American band comprised of Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas, known for its dreamy, western-tinged take on rock and roll. Their self-titled debut was praised for its reverential spaciousness, Hamilton's haunting voice, and Thomas's sinister Morricone-esque guitar lines. On their second album, Almanac, the duo explores denser arrangements and new sonic territory, from Saharan rhythms to Appalachian-inspired melodies, all delivered with stoic, wistful restraint. Named after those annual tomes which provide agricultural advice, chart weather patterns and astronomocal phenomena, Almanac likewise tracks the life and death of seasons, youth, love, and the cyclical nature of all things.

The album was recorded by Kevin McMahon (Swans, Real Estate) in a hundred year old barn in the Hudson River Valley of New York State during the transition from summer to fall. Producing with McMahon, Thomas expanded on the band's demos, crafting layers of guitar, Rhodes piano, organ and harmonium.

    Nanobots

Over the years, They Might Be Giants have switched between music for kids and music for grown-ups, and for their latest album, the band will be gearing their poppy alt-rock tunes towards adults. The collection is called Nanobots, and it was produced by frequent collaborator Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Mary J. Blige) at his private studio. While this music isn't kid-oriented, it looks to be filled with no shortage of youthful exuberance. According to a press release, the album contains charming wit, electrifying pop melodies and just enough bass clarinet.

Certainly, the single Call You Mom could almost pass for a children's song with its garage pop riffs and slightly goofy lyrics. If you've got any kids who enjoy They Might Be Giants, they might well get a kick out of this one. This is the band's first album since 2011's Join Us.

The Swellers return reinvigorated on their No Sleep Records debut, which is packed with highly memorable tracks like "Should," "Becoming Self-Aware," "High/Low" and "Big Hearts," that speak directly to fans with an open heart about growing up, learning from your mistakes and moving forward, something the band has a lot of experience with lately.

Produced by The Swellers and recorded by Marc Hudson (Saves the Day, Taking Back Sunday) at Rancho Recordo in Fenton, MI and with Mark Michalik (Into It. Over It., Fireworks) in Chicago, IL, The Light Under Closed Doors is a raw collection of ten punk rock sing-alongs that are filled with driving rhythm and infectious choruses. The band's follow-up to 2012's EP, Running Out Of Places To Go, strips the band down to their core with a sound that's pure and honest.

Album Of The Year (2016 Remaster)

    Remastered On 180 Gram Vinyl

Includes 8 Bonus Tracks Not On The Original Release

The band returned in 1997 with ALBUM OF THE YEAR, which became Faith No More's first and only number one album. It features members of the current lineup: Mike Bordin (drums), Roddy Bottum (keyboards) Billy Gould (bass) Jon Hudson (guitar), and Mike Patton (vocals). Recorded mostly in Gould's home studio, the album produced three singles: Ashes to Ashes, Last Cup of Sorrow and Stripsearch. In the liner notes, Bottum writes: We were definitely referencing our musical roots as well, going back to darker tones visited in Angel Dust ...in retrospect it feels really strong and an undeniably prolific chapter in what we ultimately set out to do. ALBUM OF THE YEAR's eight bonus tracks also include live versions of the album track Collision and the Burt Bacharach and Hal David classic, This Guy's In Love With You, plus rare mixes of Last Cup of Sorrow, Pristina and more.

    Ices

Ices is a celebration of flight, levity, and the conviction that you can leave earth. You take wing in an airplane, you go to real places when you dream, you have out-of-body experiences, you get high, you lose yourself in someone else.

When we started work on these songs, I was beginning a gradual move to California, constantly traveling back and forth from New York. I was experimenting. I was falling in love. Our studio in the Hudson Valley was full of electronics and computers and the sounds of future ships sailing through the vastness of space, and I sometimes forgot where I was. The first songs we wrote were called flying 1, then flying 2, and so on, which eventually evolved into songs on the album. Flight became a metaphor for the ignition of the imagination. The process created a lightness in me, a freedom and positive energy that I'd never before felt or explored.

This recording session became a two year music and spiritual retreat with my psychic twin brother, Eliot. A private journey during which we abandoned old habits and familiar sounds. We got really geeky and experimented in our studio. We obsessed over sympathetic magic, Ancient Aliens, and the NBA. We allowed everything we loved to find its way in: Persian percussion, hip-hop beats, lo-fi, hi-fi, Pakistani pop, Link Wray, Jason Pierce, gospel, dub. We developed new systems; we worked with synthesis, software, and samples; we became producers. The Hudson Valley was home base, but I wanted to keep flying. I wrote songs in California, recorded vocals in Atlanta, and worked with Clams Casino in Brooklyn. For the first time, Lia Ices felt like an inclusive project with its own identity, not just a name.

Ices as a whole is devoted to these certainties. While we have evolved, we are still animals. We respond to planets, patterns, and cycles. We require the sounds of our origins. We live in the future but stay bound to the primitive and primordial. We will always want tribe, we will always want rhythm, we will always need music to guide us into our deepest sense of what it means to be human. So we hear sounds from all over the planet in this album. We devour so much music, and with this album we allowed ourselves to claim bits from all of it.

The Body, The Blood, The Machine

The Body, The Blood, The Machine was recorded at Supernatural Sound Studios in Oregon City, twenty miles
south of The Thermals' home in Portland, OR by Fugazi's Brendan Canty. With the unfortunate departure of original Thermals drummer Jordan Hudson in late 2005, Kathy Foster and Hutch Harris (bass and guitar/vocals, respectively) split up duties on the new record themselves with Foster pulling double shifts as The Thermals' rhythm section for almost the entire record while Harris sang, performed all the guitar tracks, played some bass-and the two shared keyboard/organ duties.

With a wider, brighter, and wilder sound than anything The Thermals have done in the past, The Body, The Blood, The Machine adds walls of guitars, organs, and even a few ballads (aka slightly pretty songs) to the mix, while still retaining the gritty post-pop-punk sound for which The Thermals are globally famous. The lyrics envision a United States governed by a fascist Christian state, and focus on the need (and means) to escape. While hardly a concept album, there is definitely a story told in the songs: a story about getting the fuck out while you still can.

    Recent Songs

    Import

Recent Songs is the sixth studio album by Leonard Cohen, released in 1979. It was a return to Cohen's acoustic folk music after the Phil Spector experimentation of Death of a Ladies' Man, but now with many jazz and Oriental influences.

The album includes Gypsy violin player Raffi Hakopian, and even a Mexican Mariachi band. Long-time Cohen collaborator Jennifer Warnes prominently appears in vocal tracks. Members of the band Passenger played on four of the songs and Garth Hudson of The Band also appeared on the album.
Came So Far for Beauty seems to be an unaltered outtake from the unfinished 1975 album Songs for Rebecca , which also included early versions of The Traitor and The Smokey Life (then with music by John Lissauer).

Ballad of the Absent Mare's metaphoric lyrics are based on the twelfth-century Ten Bulls (or Ten Ox-herding Pictures). The song is covered by several artists, notably Emmylou Harris on the album Cowgirl's Prayer (as Ballad of a Runaway Horse).

    For My Parents

Mono, the Japanese instrumental rock quartet, who have been called one of the most distinctive bands of the 21st century by Pitchfork, present their new Temporary Residence album For My Parents. There is no doubting a Mono song when you hear it; cinemascopic song structures, engrossing lyrical melodies, sublimely transcendent execution; and no denying their uncanny ability to feel perfectly at home in both pristine symphony halls and dirty rock clubs. For My Parents obliterates that divide, showcasing a sensitivity and maturity that simultaneously acknowledges where they came from and where they're going.

For the new album the band worked with legendary New York producer Henry Hirsch, recording in a converted cathedral overlooking the Hudson River, and mixing with longtime friend Fred Weaver in rural Pennsylvania. Embracing their evolution as a preeminent neoclassical noise juggernaut, Mono once again enlisted the Wordless Music Orchestra, who had previously accompanied the band in NYC during their worldwide series of orchestral concerts.

Coming more than three years after the highly regarded Hymn To The Immortal Wind, For My Parents represents the longest span of time between Mono albums, resulting in sharper songwriting, subtler dynamics, stunning production, and the most thoughtfully developed arrangements of their career. The unique combination of soul-stirring melodies, cinematic East-meets-West arrangements, and firm command of elusive emotional intangibles is what makes Mono so Mono.

    Modern Vampires Of The City

Modern Vampires of the City is Vampire Weekend's third album, and it will be released on May 7th, 2013. The album is a bustling world of voices and visions - from the death of Henry Hudson to the Orthodox girl falling in love at an uptown falafel shop, from Hannah Hunt tearing up the New York
Times on a distant beach to the lethal chandelier of "Everlasting Arms", from the ardent yearning of "Don't Lie" to the harmonized voice of hope in "Young Lion".

For this album, Rostam Batmanglij and Ezra Koenig traveled to LA to collaborate with Rostam's longtime friend, and fellow producer, Ariel Rechtshaid. They brought with them writing and recording sessions from New York and Martha's Vineyard and began to stride towards realizing the finished album and were later joined by drummer Chris Tomson and bassist Chris Baio. Drums and bass were recorded to analog tape at Vox Studios. Built in the 1930's, it's one
of the oldest privately owned studios in Los Angeles. Those parts were then reintegrated with the sessions and further manipulated to create a synthesis of sound and tone, both old and new. Modern Vampires of the City has a grandeur and romanticism evocative of the city where it was conceived.

    The Last Waltz

Mastered By Chris Bellman At Bernie Grundman Studios From The Original Analog Tapes And Pressed At RTI

On Thanksgiving Day 1976, The Band took the stage for the very last time at the Winterland Theatre in San Francisco for THE LAST WALTZ, which has gone on to become one of the most heralded performances of all time. Joining The Band on stage throughout the evening was an unprecedented group of pioneers in music including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young, among others.

The Band, more than any other group, put rock and roll back in touch with its roots. With their ageless songs and solid grasp of musical idioms, the Band reached across the decades, making connections for a generation that was, as an era of violent cultural schisms wound down, in desperate search of them. They projected a sense of community in the turbulent late Sixties and early Seventies - a time when the fabric of community in the United States was fraying.

Guitarist Robbie Robertson drew from history in his evocative, cinematic story-songs, and the vocal triumvirate of bassist Rick Danko, drummer Levon Helm and keyboardist Richard Manuel joined in rustic harmony and traded lines in rich, conversational exchanges. Multi-instrumentalist Garth Hudson provided musical coloration in period styles that evoked everything from rural carnivals of the early 20th century to rock and roll revues of the Fifties.
