Fittingly enough, The Cool Ghoul himself, John Zacherle, passed away right around Halloween in 2016, and now we here at Real Gone Music are celebrating his one-year "deathday" by releasing his incredibly rare album Zacherle's Monster Gallery, originally issued on the budget Elektra imprint Crestview, on green & orange "pumpkin" vinyl limited to 1000 copies! This record was originally released in 1963, and was actually a copy of the 1960 Elektra album Spook Along with Zacherley, except for one very important detail: the cover art to the Crestview release was inked by legendary Mad Magazine artist Jack Davis, who actually passed away last year as well. Which probably explains why original copies of this record are selling for about $150 if you can find them So consider this release a twin tribute to two guys who brought a big smile to millions of kids, especially those on the East Coast that used to see Zach present all those cheesy horror movies on TV. Here Be Monsters

Here Be Monsters finds acclaimed musician/visual artist Jon Langford and his band Skull Orchard scanning the outskirts of popular culture, its title born of medieval cartographers' term for the dragons, sea serpents, and other mythical beasties that reside beyond the boundaries of the known universe. This new album will feature a unique piece of artwork specific to each track printed on individual inserts included with copies of the CD. Best known for his work in the The Mekons and the Waco Brothers, Langford has been a leading pioneer in the assimilation of folk/country music into punk rock since the genre's first evolution over 30 years ago.
The album sees the Welsh-born, Chicago-based singer/songwriter, bandleader, producer, painter, and poet plotting a clear-eyed, sharp-elbowed course through such far-flung subjects as alternative hierarchies and astronomy, perpetual war for perpetual profit, the culture of detachment, middle age, fatherhood, fame, and the fleetingness of love. The subtext of the album is maybe the things our civilization thinks of as fixed and immovable might actually be redundant/obsolete/discredited and it's up to us to question and find new rocks to be washed up on , says Langford, who called in Mekons/Waco Brothers veteran Mike Hagler (My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Neko Case, Billy Bragg) to record this album at Chicago's Kingsize Sound Labs. Skull Orchard used to be a fairly solitary activity - songs that didn't fit anywhere else - stuff that was too Welsh or personal to bother the Mekons or Wacos with, says Langford, but something happened with the band I formed to tour with the previous record. It turned into a real group, so this is much more of a band project than any of the solo things I've done before.
Also known for being a prolific visual artist, Langford designed all the artwork for Here Be Monsters himself, including individual designs for each track that will be showcased on separate inserts in the CD and in a collage on the LP jacket. This album really brings the art and the songs together - a chicken/egg which came first situation. The songs are very visual and in some cases came directly from the paintings, continued Langford. Monolith Of PhobosTwo worlds have collided, and what glorious and odd worlds they are. After Primus and The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger completed a successful summer tour, Les Claypool and Sean Lennon decided to combine their abstract talents into a project called The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Their efforts thus far have spawned the full-length release Monolith of Phobos.
Released via ATO records, the album takes listeners on a stimulating psychedelic journey through the cosmos.
"Sean is a musical mutant after my own heart," said Claypool. "He definitely reflects his genetics-not just the sensibilities of his dad but also the abstract perspective and unique approach of his mother. It makes for a glorious freak stew."
Over the course of six weeks or so, the two wrote and recorded a total of ten songs with both of them sharing various vocal and instrumental responsibilities, going beyond their core instruments of bass and guitar.
Claypool explained, "Usually I play the drums and percussion on my records but Sean has such a different feel than I do, it just made more sense for him to man the kit on most of the tunes on this project. I took the helm at my old vintage API console and let him bang away. His drumming is like a cross between Ringo and Nick Mason. But I think folks will be most surprised by what a monster guitar player he is, especially when you prod him a bit."

Wall Of Sound (Awaiting Repress)I thought WALL OF SOUND would be the toughest album I would ever make. I was so satisfied with my previous album, INFERNO, more than I have ever been in my whole career. Musically, sonically, and most importantly, I was satisfied with the melodies and soundscapes on a personal level. It was as if I finally found the key to something.
Even as I was still working on INFERNO, I was thinking, how the hell am I ever going to top this next time? I was doomed.
I started WALL OF SOUND with a daunting blank slate and somehow, ideas came out. Refined ideas, complex ideas, small and large scale ideas and plenty of them.
It was as if the exhaustive process of putting INFERNO together strengthened a new creative muscle that I had never zoned in on before, so the first steps of writing WALL OF SOUND felt like a runner who runs a marathon after over-training for a long time. I was well warmed up.
The guitar playing on the album also came quite easy, despite it being without question the most evolved guitar playing of my career. It's a challenge to evolve on one's instrument album after album, especially on your 13th solo album. Luckily this is a challenge that I love. You will find this hard to believe when you hear the density and sheer amount of guitar coming at you from all directions, but in fact, all of the final guitar tracks on WALL OF SOUND were done in 9 days.
This furious and productive pace was made possible by over a year of making demo after demo and spending more time listening and living with the music rather than playing it. I had lived with the songs and edited them so incredibly many times, that by the time I got to the actual recording studio, it was like I had been playing the whole album on tour for a year already. I learned to do this from making INFERNO. This is why a lot of artists` debut albums are so strong - because they have had so much time to reflect on and fix the music, and also, more importantly, attach real life experiences to the songs. I feel like I have a debut album here.
Jinxx from Black Veil Brides and I wanted to do something that would shock his fans and my fans. I arranged a monster of a tune called Sorrow & Madness based on a melody that Jinxx wrote on the violin. I took his sweet melody and added so many twists and turns that it became a mammoth of Martyisms in tandem with a large side of Jinxx that has yet to be heard by his fans. We are both very proud of what happened.
I think Deafheaven is the one heavy band that comes to mind when people ask me to recommend something that`s not Japanese!, I was super excited to work with Shiv from Deafheaven. We wrote Pussy Ghost together and it is one of the most aggressive songs I have ever played, while at the same time evoking grotesquely beautiful moods that I have never felt before. One thing I learned from making INFERNO is that when you have a guest, let them come up with music first. Let it be their baby, so they are personally invested in the song. Then arrange it and do it my way, then add more things together. This gives you a final song that really sounds like both of the people put their heart and souls into the music, as opposed to one guy doing everything and the guest just blasting out a solo somewhere.
Jorgen from Shining also guested on INFERNO and when we finished that song we immediately started talking about what we would do next. For those who don`t know Shining, they are like a steroided out and genius level musicianed out version of Nine Inch Nails for the 21st century, with a charismatic singer/composer (Jorgen) and a wicked sense of melody, that hits me in the gut on every song. Tommy Victor talks about "ZERO DAYS": "I must say a lot of effort was put into this new "Zero Days" recording. From the minute I would get off tour, I would consolidate ideas from the road and form new ones. Again the focus was on creating good songs. We wanted this record to be modern as well as holding justice to all the previous releases. Again and maybe even more than normally I went crazy meticulous with the lyrics. Shifty Adventures In Nookie WoodShifty Adventures in Nookie Wood is a title to set tongues wagging and minds wondering, but for an album that seems born of a return to John's youth it seems safely apt in its mischievousness.
After nearly 50 years of making music it's still freshly evident that Cale draws from a make believe world first imagined by his young self. Track title 'Mothra' pays homage to the Japanese monster from Godzilla movies. As a boy practicing scales in grey skied Welsh valleys such fantastical flights of fancy must have been reassuring of the path that was potentially about to unfold for him. Lyrics reveal even more explicitly earlier incarnations of Cale and in the same song we relive an encounter with a local bully, You see me running, you see me climb, reading my books and always trying, laughing and teasing and I love to play, dreaming my dreams are never far away.
Elsewhere Cale's doing what he does best, guiding listeners through the places, politics, and people of the day. A wide range of human experience is reflected and often it's for the listener to dig deeper to find what's being documented. Sometimes however part of the tapestry is pulled soberingly into focus; when listening to 'Scotland Yard' while the Leveson enquiry plays out, it's all too easy to recognize the guilty.
As a producer Cale has reached a new plateau on this record. At the albums most maximal, it feels like looking at a collection of precious stones. Myriads of differently coloured and textured surfaces carefully placed together, each finding their own space to beckon the ear. Take Me To The Disco
Meg Myers has announced her new album 'Take Me To The Disco,' a relentless and brutally honest record, and the raw result of Meg's own personal journey. As on her breakout 2015 debut album 'Sorry,' Meg's tremendously powerful voice (Rolling Stone) and seething...riffs (The New York Times) are front and center, but this time around, she explores love, loneliness and trauma with unflinching candor, facing her inner green-eyed monster head-on and attacking each bar with a primal ferocity.
To accompany the announcement, Meg has released lead single Numb, a haunting look at the pressures of the music business and life in general. 'Feeling numb' relates to the many pressures of life and our reactions to this weight, says Meg. When this burden becomes too much and we can no longer run...we essentially numb out. Billboard said of the song, piano and electronics gnaw at the alt-rock arrangement, declaring, the cathartic 'Numb' leaves you with a paradoxically life-affirming feeling, a weapon against the modern-day frustrations inherent in life and music.
Meg co-wrote most of the songs on the album with her producer and collaborator Christian Leggy Langdon, and enlisted the help of Victor Indrizzo, who has played with Depeche Mode, to play drums on the record. Meg also used a live string section for the first time - The Section Quartet appears on six songs on the album.
Listening back to some of these songs made me realize what I was really writing about...what was underneath it all, says Meg. On the surface, I thought I was writing about love loss but I've learned it goes much deeper than that. It's going back to the child in me that needed to be healed. I've always written from a true place, but in getting to know myself better, I'm now writing from an even deeper level of honesty.
Meg, who grew up in a Jehovah's Witness household, moved to Los Angeles when she was 19 where she recorded her debut album 'Sorry' on Atlantic Records. That album spawned Top 15 and Top 20 alternative radio hits, Desire and Sorry, respectively, with MTV calling Desire the female answer to Nine Inch Nails' Closer. Meg's striking and visceral music videos have skyrocketed to upwards of 9 million YouTube views, and her Spotify plays rank in the tens of millions. She's graced the pages of every major publication from Rolling Stone to Cosmopolitan, and has brought her hypnotizing performances to Conan and Last Call with Carson Daly, in addition to major tours with the Pixies, Alt-J, and Royal Blood and notable festival slots including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Governors Ball.

Reaching Into InfinityPressed On 2x Colored Vinyl
Long running Grammy-nominated extreme melodic power metal band DragonForce are set to release their seventh album, 'Reaching Into Infinity.' Once again recorded with Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Soilwork), the producer extraordinaire who helmed the UK-based group's now three-year-old previous record 'Maximum Overload,' it will be available via Metal Blade Records in the United States.
'Reaching Into Infinity' introduces Italian drummer Gee Anzalone, who joined the band for their first ever 'best-of' collection, 'Killer Elite: The Hits, The Highs, The Vids', released in 2016. It's the third DragonForce album to feature frontman Marc Hudson, whose reign at the mic now enters its sixth year.
Musically speaking, 'Reaching Into Infinity' continues where DragonForce left off with 'Maximum Overload', the band's faster material becoming even faster still, while the melodic parts head even further in that particular direction. The band offers no apologies for the inclusion of a 1980s rock-style ballad entitled 'Silence' and, at the other end of the spectrum, there's even an 11-minute multi-tempoed monster called 'The Edge Of The World'.
"'The Edge Of The World' is DragonForce's longest ever song," says Li proudly. "In some ways, this album is more epic than anything we've done before."'The Edge Of The World' is extremely ambitious, channeling growled vocals from Hudson and fusing them with a stunning arrangement that twists and turns like the proverbial dragon's tail. The 'Force go prog-rock, anyone?
"Why not?" Li responds. "Marc's favorite style of music is prog, and I'm a massive fan of Dream Theater, so there's an element of that going on. With each album that we make, the band reveals more and more if its influences, constantly adding to what we can do."
"We have proven that playing fast is something we were good at, so this time I wanted to bring even more diversity into our music," Fred elaborates. "It's great to challenge ourselves instead of staying in a comfort zone, and I really wanted to experiment with Marc's vocals. I think people are going to be surprised at his brutality."
The title corresponds with the album's highly impressive sleeve art, which features a dragon bursting through a wormhole into a hi-tech, futuristic cityscape.
"The dragon represents us - DragonForce - and a form of music that's been around for a very long time, emerging into an outside world that's infinitely more crazy and chaotic than it was ten years ago," Li explains, using considerable understatement. "Everyone is saying that there's no future and there's a lot of fear and uncertainty, especially for younger people, but our music is an escape from it all."
The bulk of the album was laid down at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, though additional parts were cut in studios around the UK and in California. They had to be - "Since 'Killer Elite' it's been non-stop for us," Li comments.
Adds Leclercq: "We flew out, played a festival, headed back into the studio, then went back out again. It was very intense and tiring. I obviously played bass but also a lot of rhythm guitar, electric and acoustic, and lost my temper a few times - I think we all did at some point because we wanted to deliver nothing but the best."
Expect many of these songs to become firm live favorites, particularly the super-fast 'Midnight Madness' (feted as the album's second video track), when DragonForce hit the road again. As usual, their itinerary will take them to the four corners of the world.LP 1

We were fortunate with this one. Fortunate you say? How so? Well for starters, the late and lauded mastering engineer George Marino at Sterling Sound mastered and cut the original 1975 release of Ted Nugent. Almost 40 years later, after some digging by George's protege, Ryan Smith, on behalf of this Analogue Productions reissue - lo and behold - George's mastering notes resurfaced as well as the original analog tape masters.
With the release of Ted Nugent, the self-proclaimed Motor City Madman and god of gonzo guitar became not just a star, but one of rock 'n' roll's icons. The songs Motor City Madhouse and Just What The Doctor Ordered would become two of many of Ted's road anthems. These and the other 10 monster tracks on Ted Nugent were clear evidence that Ted was an artist to be reckoned with.
Ted Nugent still likes to reflect back on what his critics were saying as he put his band, the Amboy Dukes, to rest and started the next phase of his career-one that would be under his own vision, his own direction and most importantly, his own name.
I remember some of the more creative writers of the ilk claimed it would be 'the final nail in my coffin' - quote, unquote, Nugent says with a redemptive laugh. I knew better.
The mention of Ted's name elicits different reactions from rock fans today in different parts of the country. Nods of familiarity on both coasts, and clenched fists and knowing grins in the vast Midwest and South. He's sold millions of albums. Rock radio couldn't play enough of him - and neither could promoters, who made him the hardest-working and top-grossing gunslinger of the mid- and late-'70s. While most other rockers posed with their sleek Stratocasters and Les Pauls, there was Nugent, whipping his mane of hair around his head as he cranked out sound on his big Gibson Birdland, a hog of a guitar with rich, thick and creamy tones - clearly not something to be trusted to amateurs. But in Nugent's hands it screamed, squealed and cried, providing a vivid 3-D voice for the monster crunch of Stranglehold, the menacing stomp of Stormtroopin and the fiery boogie of Hey Baby, Motor City Madhouse and Snakeskin Cowboys.
We feel this is Ted's finest recording by far. And here, you'll hear this classic more clearly and vividly than ever before. This reissue was remastered by Smith in the late George Marino's mixing room at Sterling Sound using Marino's VMS 80 lathe and an ATR 102 tape machine modified by Mike Spitz-the only one of its kind in the world.. Then this 200-gram vinyl beauty was pressed by Quality Record Pressings, makers of the world's finest LPs, where it was plated for vinyl by Gary Salstrom, QRP's master plating technician and general manager. The power burned into these grooves is difficult to find anywhere else this side of the Atlantic, and indeed it remains a rare commodity anywhere in the world.

Upside Down MountainThough only 34, Conor Oberst has been a recording artist for more than two decades, starting with raw, acoustic guitar-based bedroom tracks he cut as a young teenager and initially released on cassette. After his early Omaha-based band Commander Venus broke up, Oberst recast himself as Bright Eyes, an umbrella name for Oberst, producer-keyboardist Mike Mogis and multi-instrumentalist/arranger Nathaniel Wolcott, and a shifting group of collaborators. By the time he released Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground on Saddle Creek, the label he helped found with friends in Omaha, Oberst was a word-of-mouth success, with an avid young audience that helped to sell out his tours. The critics soon followed. Rolling Stone called him "a true American original: the ghost of Walt Whitman setting up shop in the wraith-white, rail-thin frame of an acoustic-strumming Nebraska Cure fan." The 2005 simultaneous release of two markedly different Bright Eyes albums-the more singer-songwriter-oriented I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and the darker, computerized Digital Ash in a Digital Urn-displayed the breadth of his talent. Time Magazine listed I'm Wide Awake among its top 10 albums of the year. Since then, Bright Eyes has continued to evolve, its lineup morphing with each successive tour. While supporting his 2007 Cassadaga album, Oberst took over New York City's Town Hall for a week of sold-out shows, with his large, string-augmented ensemble outfitted spectacularly in white suits. He's also recorded and toured with Mogis, Jim James, and M. Ward as Monsters of Folk as well as with his own Mystic Valley Band. For the first leg of his summer 2014 tour, he's bringing along Wilson's other pals, the Southern Californian quartet Dawes as his support act and backing band.
"I feel lucky that I have been able to do this for as longs as I have," declares Oberst. "I've seen so many talented friends come and go, for a lot of different reasons. Sometimes they stop making music because they can't pay the bills or they lose the passion for it. At this point it is my life. I don't know another way to live. There is something fundamental in myself; I have to be this way. It completes what I am."
Upside Down Mountain features many other friends of Oberst's, including producer Jonathan Wilson, engineer Andy LeMaster, bassist Macey Taylor, multi-instrumentalist Blake Mills, and the Swedish sibling folk-rock vocal duo First Aid Kit. What started as exploratory demos with producer-musician Jonathan Wilson at his Fivestar Studios in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, in a home Wilson rents from Oberst, became the first de facto album sessions. Returning to his native Omaha, Nebraska, Oberst kept rolling with the help of frequent collaborator, engineer, and friend Andy LeMaster at his own ARC Studios. Even more tracking followed in Omaha last November and December. Then Oberst and Wilson moved south to Blackbird Studio in Nashville.
"This is a return to an earlier way I wrote," Oberst says of the songs on Upside Down Mountain. "It's more intimate or personal, if you will. Even if all my songs come from the same place, you make different aesthetic decisions along the way. For me, language is a huge part of why I make music. I'm not the greatest guitar player or piano player-I'm not the greatest singer, either-but I feel if I can come up with melodies I like that are fused with poetry I'm proud of, then that's what I bring to the table. VesselThe first track of Vessels, "Fear the Followers", comes in with tight frantic riffing coupled by a stark immediate thrash part. The song, bordering on hardcore underneath, is screamed in two separate distinct voices; one being a screechier version of the lower growls. A strict delivery of sharp metalcore is prevalent. But then the middle dips into some Sabbath swings before further slowing with cymbals crashing and synths.
Track two, "Buried in the City", however exploits the notion of the riff and just goes full throttle doom metal. The tidal journey is engrossing, barbaric! Without rehashing any hacked riff, Cokegoat comes in with snarling bit of doom metal. It carries significant weight as a tribute to classic sounds while approaching them differently. The layered vocal and galloping metal guitars spark the energy of the finish.
"Dogs" contrasts that with a cosmic synth aura and a taut minimalist riff approach for a tense 3 minutes. Then the explosion of a sinister 1970's free-wheeling riff takes center stage. All of which are to be manipulated into an Unsane, Faith No More ("Malpractice, "Caffeine") ugly place. Eventually, among static shorelines, we get a dreamy recoil into a bluesy meandering.
Cokegoat begs you to pinpoint them, not by album but by the minute.
There are continuous bounces from Strife type hardcore intros (I swear) to scathing black metal nods. Usually bands that boast that spectrum of influence are raw and crusty and loose in the production. This is tight as sutures. Andy Nelson of Weekend Nachos engineered this and Carl Saff (Unsane, Red Fang, Earthless) mastered the final sound for this. Not surprising. Heavy is a key factor in Vessels.
Vessels is one hell of a debut. This bitch has balls. But quickly flashes some groove. "The End of Your Life Pt 2" is controlled chaos. It also is one of two 2-part songs. Yeah. This is foresight, ambition, ardor and grit in this album. Here we have "three guitarists, three voices, synths, bass and drums," kept on a production leash that adds an urgency to the manic time changes. Which crush. The atmospheric layers are just touches. They add mood but never take center stage. This is about riffs, but Cokegoat know where to accent their talents as well.

The hallmark of Jason Molina's career, Magnolia Electric Co., is both a confluence of all he would create and a line in the
sand to mark a shift in his songwriting approach. It was the last statement under his iconic Songs: Ohia moniker, and the
moment before he began making new legends as Magnolia Electric Co. for the next 10 years. Now- here at the end of that
decade - with Molina gone, his work gathers more weight and meaning. This expanded 10-year anniversary edition of
Magnolia Electric Co. features one never-before-released track plus many rarities. The full-band studio outtake of fan
favorite Whip Poor Will is a sweet and spare version that ended up being played far differently on Magnolia Electric Co.'s
final album Josephine (2009). Also included is the studio version of The Big Game Is Every Night. Previously only available
on the Japanese version of the album, this opus serves as Molina's thesis statement, its poetry weaving through the 20th
Century, through art and sporting culture - ultimately questioning what it means to be an American in the autumn of the
American Era. The edition also gathers Molina's gutting demos for the record, including those two outtakes. Nearly each
begins with audible sound of the RECORD button being pressed down on the tape player. They are so close and intimate,
it's hard to look them right in the eyes. But you should.
With the wailing lap steel of the album opener Farewell Transmission, Jason Molina & Company usher in a new day,
playing the sort of rock that your cool uncle rolled to back in the '70s. Landing somewhere on the radar sonically between
Bob Dylan's Desire and Bob Seger's Beautiful Loser, though thematically in-line with Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man, The
Magnolia Electric Co lies at the crossroads of working class rock, white soul, swamp rock and outlaw country
While Songs: Ohia's last record Didn't It Rain was a meditation on roots and stability, Magnolia Electric Co. finds itself
toiling with the wages of change, which is well illustrated in I've Been Riding with the Ghost, a real rig rocker that could
have easily fit on Time Fades Away, on which Molina sings: See I ain't getting better, I am only getting behind. Standing on
the crossroad trying to make up my mind. Trying to remember how it got so late. Why every night pain comes from a
different place. Now something's got to change.
This thematic preoccupation with change also manifests itself in the rotating cast of lead vocalists. While the entire album
boasts a doo wop-like line-up with five vocalists on the floor, six of the eight songs have Molina in the tall stool with the
ever-enchanting Jennie Benford (of Jim & Jennie & the Pinetops, who was also a key player on Didn't It Rain) as primary
back-up vocalist. But on two songs, new Songs: Ohia players step up to take on lead vocal duties, singing Molina-penned
songs. Lawrence Peters takes the lead on The Old Black Hen with his fantastic Merle Haggard-esque country croon, while
Miss Scout Niblett appears from the nether world of the Ohia wardrobe with feathers in her hair and casts her spell on the
Ohia rig barreling through Peoria Lunch Box Blues.
Recorded live, in its entirety, at the hands of Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago, Illinois, with the same
core back-up band that played on the Mi Sei Apparaso Come Un Fantasma Italian live album, this is the record where the
Songs: Ohia fan demographics make a radical shift from the dominant bedroom universe of the world's lonely, sensitive,
overqualified young white dudes, and finds refuge in the masses by being embraced by the world's truck drivers, sorority

Shackles GiftZun Zun Egui formed in Bristol in late 2008 - Mauritian guitarist and singer Kushal Gaya met and started making music with Japanese keyboard player Yoshino Shigihara after they had both moved to the UK and a core group of musicians soon formed around them. A love for experimentation, free jazz, fusion, DIY culture, throwing parties and playing wild shows was the glue that bonded the outfit together. After an early clutch of raw and experimental EPs, they focused their song-writing talents and mastery of many styles to create a recognisable Zun Zun Egui sound which included tropicalia, punk funk, Afrobeat, Ethio jazz and no wave. All of these varied disciplines were marshalled to produce their first album "Katang" which was widely hailed as one of the most exciting debuts of 2011. Even for a band as exploratory and talented as ZZE though, the step up in terms of songwriting and inspiration since "Katang" is astounding and it is clear that Shackles' Gift looks like being one of the most unique and thrilling records that will be released in 2015.
Produced by Andrew Hung of Fuck Buttons, "Shackles' Gift" is the album that Zun Zun Egui have always threatened to deliver and we always believed they would. Opening with 'Rigid Man', it hits the listener with bone-shaking tropical funk. Future single 'African Tree' strolls past on a marching band rhythm, complete with an arena-sized chorus and Kyuss-heavy stoner rock guitars. 'Ruby' is like imperial period Depeche Mode discovering the delights of industrial dancehall reggae, while 'I Want You To Know' is an absolute funk/noise rock monster, sounding like Steve Albini recording Queens Of The Stone Age jamming on 'Kashmir'. 'Soul Scratch' is a very British take on a very Mauritian form of music called seggae, which combines the African island folk music known as sega with reggae, but imbuing it with an adrenalised urban uptightness. The album concludes with 'City Thunder' an elemental, dubbed out and dread take on post rock and disco.
Frontman Kushal says that first and foremost "Shackles' Gift" is a British rock record made by a British group but admits that the first sparks of its creation started flying when ZZE visited Mauritius in March 2013. The African island nation, which lies 700 miles east of Madagascar, deep in the Indian Ocean, invited the band to give a concert as part of their Independence Day celebrations. The island's dynamic history has led to a multi-lingual, multi-cultural modern nation which has influenced Zun Zun Egui in more ways than one. Not only has Mauritian music been one of the (many) primary ingredients of their sound and inspired Kushal's multi-lingual approach to singing (the island has 12 main languages) but the diversity of the country acts as a metaphor for the diversity of the group itself.1. Pulling a decapitated rabbit out of the hat, Zombie and cohorts John 5 on guitar, Piggy D on bass, and Ginger Fish on drums rock the shit out of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's 'We're An American Band'; talk about a job well done! And if there really is a fallen angel in hell, Zombie will play 'Lucifer Rising' every night on tour. Bound to be a fan-favourite, this makes you move and groove uncontrollably; it's damn near irresistible. 'Trade In Your Guns For A Coffin' ends this illicit affair with the perfect amount of sex, sleaze and violence. One One OneJazz and metal might not appear at first to be the most obvious bedfellows, but leave it to a bunch of Norwegians to make it actually work.
One One One is Shining's conclusion to the Blackjazz trilogy and their seventh album, and finds the band on a rare pop tip. While their standout 'In The Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be A Monster' threw them into a soup of influences, One One One shows the band pitting their musical smarts against a (theoretically) much more simplistic mode.
'I Won't Forget' is the album's first single, and is accompanied by a suitably Brazil-esque video that pushes the Norwegians into some kind of dystopian future-scape. Riffing as if their lives depended on it, the band muster up a sound something like Don Caballero doing a rendition of a Queens of the Stone Age track with Rob Zombie on vocals, and that can't be a bad thing.

ShadowsFrom the Press Release:I felt very free going into making this album. It was a solo mission, on my terms, my time, my choices, says Lenka. Previously my music was focused on being uplifting and energizing. For this album, I shifted to create a lullaby soundtrack for myself, my child and everyone out there. I have always loved albums that one can fall asleep to; an experience I enjoyed a lot growing up. Those songs drift into your unconscious like no others.
Tracks like Nothing Here But Love, an unbridled paean to the power of love, and After the Winter, a celebration of spring and the hope it holds that features Tracy Bonham on violin, offer a welcome respite from a rattled world. Two Heartbeats is an ethereal slice of life written from the perspective of an unborn child (and features the in utero heartbeat of Lenka's son)
The album has is soothing moments, to be sure, but Shadows also grapples head-on with separation (Faster With You), loss (the heartbreaking Nothing) and the fears that keep young and old awake at night (Monsters). The Shadows are imprints and remnants of the big life stuff happening to me right now, she explains. I have been reflecting a lot as things change around me. Birth, death, love, regrets, innocence, dreams, independence, connection.
Lenka plays a variety of instruments throughout, including keyboards, wurli, glockenspiel and vibraphone, and recorded the album in New York, Montreal, Toronto and her hometown of Sydney.
In Australia, Lenka reunited with Tom Schutzinger, whom she had originally worked with when both were members of acclaimed Australian electronic/ambient band Decoder Ring. Schutzinger produced No Harm Tonight as well as Heart To The Party, a track he and Lenka co-wrote.
After leaving Decoder Ring and moving to the States, Lenka released her self-titled debut album in 2008. It entered Billboard's Heatseekers chart at #3 and contained The Show, a No. 1 single at radio in three countries that has had a very long life. It was the pivotal song in the 2011 film Moneyball and Billy Crystal sang The Show during his opening monologue for the 2012 Oscars. The Show has also been heard in promotional spots for Ugly Betty, Old Navy, Coca-Cola, Apple and Crate & Barrel commercials, and on Dancing With The Stars and Grey's Anatomy.1. Nothing Here But Love
