    Imperial (Awaiting Repress)

Imperial was both his finest work to date and his best received. The brief, breathless album showcases his nearpeerless technical skill along with a newfound maturity in his songwriting. "I was going through a dark time," Curry says now of the time that birthed Imperial. So he challenged himself to find a radical level of transparency. "The whole theme of that tape is just being honest--exposing myself before anybody else does, talking about my past, talking about where I'm heading to."

    Imperial Bedroom

    180 Gram Vinyl

Elvis Costello & The Attraction' s Imperial Bedroom has been re-mastered from the original master tapes on 180 gram vinyl. This release includes "Man Out Of Time," "Beyond Belief, "Shabby Doll," and "Almost Blue."

Recorded with famed Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick, Imperial Bedroom stands as Elvis Costello and the Attractions most highly decorated traditional pop album. Boasting sumptuous arrangements, large-scale instrumentation, ambitious layers, Tin Pan Alley melodies, and orchestrated devices, the 1982 record is a testament to studio creativity and ornate production. Amidst the lavish settings beats the heart of Costellos biting, brutal lyrics that confront domestic malaise and sober emotional reflection. Its little wonder the intelligent effort took top honors in the Village Voices Pazz & Jop Critics Poll.

Universally Hailed 1982 Pop Masterpiece Pairs Costello and Co. With Beatles Engineer Geoff Emerick

Record Topped Village Voices Pazz & Jop Critics Poll In Year of Its Original Release

Lavish Instrumentation, Involved Arrangements, and Piano-Based Melodies Frame Ambitious Songs That Address Domestic Malaise While Coming Off as Upbeat

Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Imperial Bedroom Joins Mobile Fidelitys Pristine LP Reissues of Costellos My Aim Is True, This Years Model, Armed Forces, Get Happy!!, and Almost Blue

Not that audiences back in the day ever had the privilege of hearing Imperial Bedroom at its maximum potential. Now they can. Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited edition 180g LP opens up the soundstages, expands the depth, and brings the genius of the grand arrangements into clear focus. In particular, the sound of the piano will have you believe that the 88s are situated right in your room, and never before has Emericks crafty sonic precision been so readily apparent. This is a huge-sounding record that demands full frequency extension and astute separation. Mobile Fidelitys reissue delivers on all fronts. You need to hear this!

Ranked in 2005 by Rolling Stone at #166 on the magazines prestigious list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Imperial Bedroom overflows with contagious pop, savvy torch, cabaret, chamber, and jazz-influenced fare. If its details you seek, then look no further. With Emerick's assistance, each tune is distinguished with painstaking sonic accents, blended rhythms, counterpoint bass lines, dazzling passages, and inventive motifs. Accordions, tremolo guitars, organs, harpsichords, marimbas, horns, and an assortment of other instruments help color the subtly dark canvases. A 40-piece orchestra graces the gorgeous And In Every Home.

Originally intended to be a stripped-down affair, Imperial Bedroom reflects Costello's migration to composing on piano as well as his listening tastes at the time: Billie Holliday, Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra, Debussy. Intricate, expansive, and complex without ever sounding inaccessible, the record includes the now-classic Man Out of Time, Beyond Belief, and Almost Blue, the latter a ballad that Chet Baker included in his live sets until he passed away. In another stroke of brilliance, Costello used the record as an opportunity to address the melancholic changes in both his own personal situation as well as that of England, the songs functioning as smart, sometimes satirical dialogues on issues such as disenchantment, identity, and relationships.

Still considered by many the finest record released in 1982, don't pass up this extraordinary-sounding reissue.

    Feel The Sound

The fifth album by Imperial Teen, Feel the Sound, succeeds completely at its goal, plainly stated in the collections title. From the exhilarating, propulsive Runaway, which features the entire band on lead vocals, to the expansive final statement of Overtaken, Roddy Bottum, Lynn Perko Truell, Will Schwartz, and Jone Stebbins feel the sound themselves and, in turn, make the listener feel it in ways immediate, pleasurable, and haunting.

ELO-like symphonic pop has become a touchstone for everyone from Justice to Cut Copy in recent years, but Feel the Sound makes it manifest through live instrumentation that possesses a Krautrock level of intuitive synchronicity and a desert island jukeboxs sense of fun.

So many bands lose momentum and focus over time, but a little past its sweet sixteenth year of existence, Imperial Teen somehow grows both younger and wiser, connecting four characters through creative friendship and deep trust, and forging a communal power that continues to grow stronger. Limited to only 1000 vinyl copies!

    Lil Son Jackson

Texan bluesman Melvin Lil Son Jackson was a contemporary of Lightnin Hopkins who originally recorded for the Gold Star and Imperial labels in the 40s and 50s. A car accident in the mid-50s led to Jackson giving up the music career and returning to work as a mechanic. Arhoolies Chris Strachwitz pulled him out of retirement in 1960, convincing him to record this classic and rare Texas blues LP. Reissued in all its original glory.

    Tchaikovsky: The Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is the third and last Tchaikovsky ballet to be re-released on LP in the famous versions by AndrÉ Previn and LSO, after Nutcracker in 2016 and Swan Lake in 2017, which are among our bestselling LP titles. This reissue uses the iconic packshot and back illustrations made by Dick Ellescas for the three ballets when they were originally released. First performed by the Russian Imperial Ballet at St Petersburg in 1890, Sleeping Beauty was a crowning achievement for Tchaikovsky and the choreographer Marius Petipa, although its stature was not fully recognized until some time later. It has since become a repertory classic of most major ballet companies around the world.

The Fastest Guitar In The Country

Here at last is the album that christened Jimmy Bryant with the distinct moniker of Fastest Guitar in the Country." After a run of success with steel guitarist Speedy West on Capitol Records, Jimmy Bryant signed a solo contract with Imperial Records in the mid '60s. While Bryant's recordings with West established him as a fretboard genius, it was the 1967 release of The Fastest Guitar in the Country that left the disc jockey world wondering if his lighting speed was legitimate. Naysayers were left in awe as they witnessed Bryant's dizzying technique at a DJ convention in Nashville.

Bryant's frenzied fretboard flair is in full effect on his rendition of the classic "Sugar Foot Rag" and "Little Rock Getaway" bearing evidence as to why this is one of the most electrifying instrumental recordings of all time. Never before reissued, this collection of jazz-fueled country pickin' is the ultimate testament of Jimmy Bryant's gift to the guitar world. Sourced from the original Imperial stereo masters, Sundazed is proud to release this ultra-rare album on 180g vinyl.

One of the sexiest voices of the 50s, April Stevens hit Teach Me Tiger (often erroneously accredited to Marilyn Monroe) caused a minor uproar due to his sexual suggestiveness when it first came out on the Imperial label in 1959, and consequently did not receive airplay on many radio stations, reaching only no. 86 in the Billboard charts even though his fan-base had been ever-growing since her first big seller Im In Love Again came out on RCA Victor in 1951. Described as the girl with the pin-up voice, or the intimate miss with the musical kiss, this is her one and only, full-length album, in which, backed by famous arranger and composer Henry Rene, April introduces a

    King Of America

    180 Gram Vinyl

Elvis Costello returned to his folk-rock and pub rock roots with King of America, creating one of his most affecting
and personal records with the hit single "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and other hugely popular songs such as Brilliant Mistake, American Without Tears, and Indoor Fireworks. Now King Of America is available on 180 gram vinyl remastered from the original master tapes!

Elvis Costello spent the year prior to recording King of America embarking on a solo tour, usually accompanied by producer/singer-songwriter T-Bone Burnett. The pair's decision to collaborate on Costello's 1986 album came naturally, and the music sounds it-emotional, effortless, literate, seemingly uncomplicated. Credit, however, not only goes to the best batch of Costello originals since 1982's Imperial Bedroom, but to the literally awesome and awe-inspiring cast of musicians Burnett invited to participate.

First International Release Of Alternative Super Group's Debut

    Reissue Features 4 Bonus Tracks.

    Translucent Yellow Double LP

Jason Falkner, Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Brian Reitzell have quite a
musical history. Manning and Falkner-once bandmates in Jellyfish-have
gone on to success as solo acts, or as members of groups including The
Three O'Clock, The Grays, Imperial Drag, and The Moog Cookbook. Brian
Reitzell, once the drummer for Redd Kross and Air, turned his talents to film
and television, supervising and composing music for several films directed
by Sofia Coppola, including The Virgin Suicides and the Academy Award
nominated Lost In Translation (for which he, along with Kevin Shields of My
Bloody Valentine, was nominated for a BAFTA award.) Currently, Reitzell
composes music for the NBC-TV drama Hannibal.

But, together, they were TV Eyes.

Their 2006 self-titled debut was only released in Japan, now out of print, and
commanding top dollar on the collector market. Omnivore Recordings is going
to rectify that situation with a CD and 2-LP expanded edition. The release
features nine tracks from TV Eyes, plus 3 bonus tracks from the Japanese
only EP Softcore-each of which is a song from TV Eyes, remixed by a
    member of the band.

For its first ever issue on vinyl, the double LP will be pressed on translucent
yellow vinyl. The packaging will include photos and liner notes from the band's Jason Falkner.

    Super Fake Nice

Nearly twenty years since the formation of his Tennessee-based project, Self, Matt Mahaffey is releasing a new EP - Super Fake Nice.

The six-song collection will feature original tracks - "Gonna Rock," "Subconscious," "Hey Hipster," "Looks And Money," "Splitting Atoms" and the lead single "Runaway." Super Fake Nice was written, produced, recorded, performed and arranged by Matt Mahaffey at his Fresh Imperial studio in Franklin, Tennessee. This is the first new body of SElf material to be released since his 2005 album Porno, Mint, & Grime.

SElf is the brainchild of Matt Mahaffey, a multi-instrumentalist studio wizard. He began writing songs at the age of four and spent a large part of his high school and college upbringing mastering studio techniques. In 1995 he released his debut SElf album, Subliminal Plastic Motives followed by tours with Garbage, 311 and Cracker. An early review of the debut from People Magazine described Mahaffey as a "virtual one-man rhythm nation" and stated the album proves " that alternative rock can be more than atonal, angst-ridden prattle." Following Subliminal , came releases on Dreamworks and Spongebath including 1999's Breakfast With Girls and 2000's Gizmodgery (made completely with toy instruments).

Since then, Mahaffey further crafted his unique blend of funk, hip-hop and alt-pop and in the early 2000's his focus started to shift into film and television, scoring music for CSI Miami, Entourage and Weeds. He also started playing and producing for other artists including Beck, Pink, Liz Phair, Keith Urban, The Sounds, Lupe Fiacsco, HelloGoodbye and Tenacious D.

Revival Of Musical Is Currently Playing On Broadway At The Broadway Theatre

Based on Sholom Aleichem's stories about a poor milkman in late 19th century Russia, and the five daughters for whom he seeks significant weddings, this great musical, which opened at the Imperial Theatre on September 22, 1964, benefited from the portrayal of Zero Mostel as Tevye, and Jerome Robbins' splendid choreography in Boris Aronson's sets inspired by the paintings of Marc Chagall. In the profuse score created by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, If I Were A Rich Man stands out as the anthem of everyone looking for a better life. Before she became Mame's bosom buddy and a television Golden Girl, Bea Arthur played Yente, the matchmaker; and Maria Karnilova traded her stripper's outfit in Gypsy for the torn dress worn by Golde, Tevye's long-suffering and silent wife. Others who shone in the cast included Julia Migenes as Hodel; Bert Convy as Perchik, the student; Austin Pendleton, as Motel, the tailor; and Leonard Frey, as Mendel, the rabbi's son. Even though several actors (Herschel Bernardi, Luther Adler, Harry Goz, among others) played the milkman during the show's long run of 3,242 performances, Mostel's portrayal remains its supreme incarnation.

Too Dumb for Suicide: Tim Heidecker's Trump Songs

Vinyl Includes A Cover Of "Trump's Private Pilot" By Father John Misty

Well here it is. About one year in the making, all my Trump songs in one place. Most of these songs were written and recorded quickly, with the blood still boiling from whatever indignity or absurdity had popped up on my newsfeed that day. Certainly, Trump Tower was written in the rotten dawn, days after Trump's win. Let's hope I don't write any more of these, but I probably will. Thanks to Davin Wood for playing piano on Trump Tower, and thanks to Jonathan Rado, who produced and played on a good number of these (the ones you hear some of that beautiful tape hiss on mostly) - his tribute to Steve Nieve on Imperial Bedroom is particularly inspired. Thanks to Kane Ritchotte and Max Whipple for providing the best rhythm section a boy could ask for, and to Jordan Katz, Taylor Plenn and David Ralicke for laying down some sweet horns on Wilbur Ross. Thanks to Vic Berger for adding some backups to Sentencing Day and for usually being the first audience for these tunes. Thanks to Josh Tillman for surprising me with a tear-inducing cover of Trump's Private Pilot and for allowing us to include it here. Same goes to Andrew Bird for having me over, letting me use our live session and adding beautiful violin and harmony to Trump Talkin' Nukes.

Finally, NO thanks to Paul Simon who didn't let us include I Am A Cuck - you fucker.

    Lucifer II

The second coming of heavy rockers LUCIFER! After being formed back in 2014 and releasing the much-acclaimed "Lucifer I" via Rise Above in 2015, vocalist Johanna Sadonis has teamed up with Nicke Andersson (Entombed, The Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric) to reshape LUCIFER. With the addition of Robin Tidebrink (guitar), Alexandr Mayr (bass) and Dead Lord's Martin Nordin (guitar), LUCIFER successfully transformed into a whole new beast. While they are still citing Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult, Steppenwolf, 70's Heart and Fleetwood Mac as influences, the songwriting, sound and diversity of "Lucifer II" mark a giant leap compared to the debut. The result are addictive tracks ranging from instant sing-alongs ('California Son') to moody ballads ('Dreamer') and Sabbath-ian doom ('Faux Pharaoh').

Recorded in the summer of 2017 at Nicke's studio The Honk Palace, in Stockholm, and mixed by Swedish producer Ola Ersfjord (Tribulation, Primordial) at Cuervo Recording Services in Madrid, "Lucifer II" turns out to be a prime example how to properly transfer the undying spirit of 70's hard rock into this day and age.

    Lucifer II (Yellow Vinyl)

    Yellow Colored Vinyl

    Hear! Here!

Hear! Here!, the Hollies second American album, was issued stateside in 1965 by Imperial Records. Its a reworkedand, for many listeners, improvedvariation on the original British LP known simply as Hollies, with the U.S. version adding the hits Look Through Any Window (the Hollies first American Top 40 single) and Im Alive. Hear! Here! finds the band members original compositions beginning to dominate the Hollies repertoire, with their songwriting skills shining on such standout tracks as Put Yourself in My Place, So Lonely and Ive Been Wrong. Elsewhere on the album, the groups interpretive skills shine through on Curtis Mayfields You Must Believe Me, Roy Orbisons Down the Line and Lloyd Prices Lawdy Miss Clawdy.

Of all the English bands who achieved international success during the first wave of the British Invasion, none combined youthful rock n roll energy with musical sophistication more compellingly than the Hollies. The Manchester quintet effortlessly combined the effervescent, Everly Brothers-inspired vocal harmonies of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks with a muscular rhythm section driven by the brilliant drummer Bobby Elliott, creating one of their eras most beloved and enduring musical catalogs.

As was standard practice with British acts at the time, the Hollies early albums reached American shores in very different form than the versions that were released overseas, with alternate track listings and different cover art than their U.K. and European counterparts. Although these unique variants are the form in which millions of American fans first experienced these historic albums, they have been out of print for decades, and have long been obtainable only at inflated collectors prices.

    Here I Go Again

Released in America in 1964 by Imperial Records, Here I Go Again was the Hollies U.S. debut, and is rated by many fans as superior to its British counterpart, Stay with the Hollies. Here I Go Again offers an accurate representation of the Hollies early repertoire, comprised largely of distinctive covers of American R&B and rock n roll classics. In addition to the ultra-catchy title tune and their hit covers of Maurice Williams Stay and Doris Troys Just One Look, the album finds the Hollies applying their trademark style to such iconic numbers as Chuck Berrys Memphis, Little Richards Lucille and Arthur Alexanders You Better Move On.

    Anthropos

''Woke up at dawn and felt a presence, nature spirits, observing me. Looked out through the window. Black shape. I went to the nearby forest and the journey had begun.Without a direct way, I went through the woods and crossed mountains. Suddenly elated by light, I was under the raven's wings. Numb. Awakened by a thud and the silhouettes of the three. Embrace. The circle was complete.'' -- Mother of God

Born in 2008 and raised on rock in Morgårdshammar, Sweden, the four-piece Mother of God cast off a lot of the retro '70s mentality of their countrymen in favor of a more modern approach.Well, 20 years more modern, anyway. Mother of God no doubt have some appreciation for the finer things in '70s rock - there are beards to prove it - but musically they incorporate influences from grunge and the heavy grooves of the early '90s. Bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains mesh their downtrodden grunge melodies alongside classic inspiration drawn from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

These might sound like familiar elements - at least the names ring out - but Mother of God bring their own emotional spin to their Small Stone debut, Anthropos, and never quite cooperate with what you think they'll do next. The band has released two prior EPs - 2011's Forging a New Path and their debut - and they recorded and mixed Anthropos in BorlÄnge with Erik Nerback, Chris Goosman mastered, and Sanna Albenius, Robin Gnista and Alexander von Wieding provided art and layout design.

In addition to festival appearances at Getaway Rock, Wacken Open Air in Germany and Peace & Love, Mother of God have shared the stage with YOB, Dozer, Graveyard, Imperial State Electric and more, and they'll look to continue their live domination in Scandinavia and beyond in support of Anthropos, shoving their eclectic sound and undeniable hooks right in the faces of everyone who thinks they know what heavy rock should sound like.

    Beat Group

Originally released in the U.S. in 1966, Beat Group! was the American cousin to the Hollies' British LP Would You Believe?. However, identical cousins they were not: Beat Group! boasts substantially altered musical content and completely different cover art. Led by the snap-jangle-pop of the smash single, I Cant Let Go, the album is a thrilling combination of originals and R&B covers ripped from their riotous live sets. Highlights include commanding versions of Buddy Holly's Take Your Time, Sam and Dave's I Take What I Want and the Otis Redding/O.V. Wright classic That's How Strong My Love Is. Original songs Hard Hard Year, Oriental Sadness and Fifi the Flea, along with Mersey Beat staples A Taste of Honey and Mr. Moonlight round out the disc.

Out of print for decades, this classic album is FINALLY available again. Sourced from the aurally awesome original U.K. mono master, this LP is pressed on pristine 180-gram vinyl per your turntables request. Get in the queue!

Perhaps the most undervalued band of the original British Invasion, The Hollies hits are well known in the U.S. but their early albums are almost impossible to find! Taking their name from Buddy Holly and modeling their harmonies on the Everly Brothers, the Hollies gathered these American musical ingredients and whipped them into a wholly-UKnique concoction. Forging their sound to the east of their Liverpool brothers-in-beat, this Manchester quintet had it all: the soaring vocals of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks; Hicks cascading, arpeggio-laden licks on guitar and a hard-hitting rhythm section driven by drummer extraordinaire Bobby Elliot. On top of that, their keen ears for top quality songs, written by the premier songsmiths of the day like teenage wunderkind Graham Gouldman, Chip Wild Thing Taylor and the stellar in-house writing team of Clarke/Hicks/Nash, ensured that their albums were extraordinary from start to finish. In short, they were a band that exuded greatness on all fronts. Now, as that greatness has been acknowledged by their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Sundazed Music is proud to present meticulously restored vinyl editions of the rare U.S. mono versions of the Hollies third and fourth Imperial label albums, from 1966.

    Bus Stop

No rest for the Hollies in 1966! Hot on the heels of Beat Group!, Bus Stop rolled into U.S. record shops, right on schedule. Written by Gouldman, the title track became the bands first Top Ten U.S. single, peaking at #5, and featuring their bell-tone harmonies to perfection. In addition to the sparkling single, the album is packed with their renditions of contemporary hits like Simon and Garfunkel's I Am A Rock, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Mickey's Monkey' and the Fred Neil/Roy Orbison chestnut Candy Man. Self-penned songs We're Through, Don't Run and Hide and You Know He Did also shine brightly and prove there was no danger of covering up the band members writing skills. With this disc, the Hollies put the rock world on notice that they were the British Invasions most beat-filled battalion!

I Hear You Knocking (Pure Pleasure)

Dave Bartholomew has often been quoted to the effect that Smiley Lewis was a »bad luck singer«, because he never sold more than 100,000 copies of his Imperial singles. In retrospect, Lewis was a lucky man in many respects - he enjoyed stellar support from New Orleans' ace sessioneers at Cosimo's, benefited from top-flight material and production (by Bartholomew), and left behind a legacy of marvelous Crescent City R&B. We're lucky he was there, that's for sure.

Born with the unwieldy handle of Overton Lemons, Lewis hit the Big Easy in his mid-teens, armed with a big, booming voice and some guitar skills. He played clubs in the French Quarter, often with pianist Tuts Washington (and sometimes billed as 'Smiling' Lewis).

As the New Orleans R&B sound developed rapidly during the early '50s, so did Lewis. He scored his first national hit in 1952 with The Bells Are Ringing, but enjoyed his biggest sales in 1955 with the exultant I Hear You Knocking (its immortal piano solo courtesy of Huey Smith). Here's where that alleged bad luck rears its head - pop chanteuse Gale Storm swiped his thunder for any pop crossover possibilities with her ludicrous whitewashed cover of the plaintive ballad.

    Musicians:

    • Smiley Lewis (guitar, vocal)

    Recording: At Cosimo's (New Orleans)

    Production: Dave Bartholomew

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
