The Carnegie Hall ConcertFrom-the-Vault Live Release Captures Iconic Singer-Songwriter at Height of Her Breakout Period
Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Tapes: Intimate Sonics Make It Seem Like King is Sitting Five Feet Away
Stripped-Down Songs Teem With Warmth, Nuance, Emotion; James Taylor Also Appears
Every so often, a from-the-vault release captures our hearts, minds, and attention in such a way that its impossible not to tell all family, friends, and neighbors about its existence. Originally issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Tapestry, Carole Kings The Carnegie Hall Concert: June 18, 1971 is such a record, a fortunate document of an absolutely magical period in the singer-songwriters legendary career and a revealing look at the then-stagefright artist turning in a commanding performance just as she was becoming a superstar.
Half-speed mastered from the original tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180g LP of this compelling concert album brims with liveliness, depth, dimension, detail, and transparency. The nuances of Kings spare performances and warm vocals emanate as if shes sitting five feet away. Stripped down even further than they are on the studio albums, songs breathe with palpable earnestness and emotion, the subtle differences from their more polished studio brethren allowing listeners an insight into Kings creative genius.
At the time of its recording, King still suffered from shyness and who could blame her? She had been accustomed to penning lyrics for other artists and sitting behind a desk in the Brill Building. Only recently did King strike out on her own and enter the public realm. This set encapsulates this contrast in thrilling fashion. Disarmingly genuine and daringly honest, The Carnegie Hall Concert: June 18, 1971 benefits from the inclusion of Kings nervous between-song banter that exposes who she is as a person and performer. Most importantly, despite her anxiety, she turns out stirring renditions of tunes from 1970s Writer, Tapestry, and even a few from Music.
Her control is demonstrated on the records six opening cuts, which feature King alone at her piano. For the remainder of the program, shes accompanied by guitarist Danny Kortchman, bassist Charles Larkey, and a string quartet, which enter and exit according to arrangement. As such, the concert is profoundly intimate and personal, an unplugged session that predated the use of the term by nearly two decades. Longtime collaborator James Taylor joins her for a memorable medley of some of her biggest hitsWill You Love Me Tomorrow/Some Kind of Wonderful/Up on the Roofthe chemistry evident of why the duos 2010 tour was one of the most in-demand outings in years.
Mobile Fidelitys remastered sound ties everything together and is what makes this release extra special. By going to the original source, the audiophile label considerably opens up the sonic perspectives, revealing the spacious acoustics of the famed venue that act in concert with Kings music. In particular, the songs from Writer benefit from the no-nonsense production. You can literally picture Kings piano beside her, and her voice sincere, tender, melodic is rich, full-bodied, and penetrating. Listeners can even hear it crack on occasion, the results a consequence of her nerves. Unpolished and non-synthetic, the performance is better for it.
No, they don't make albums like this anymore. The Carnegie Hall Concert: June 18, 1971 as real as it gets. And so is the sound. Get your collectible copy now!

In ConcertThree-LP Set Pressed On 180-Gram Vinyl And Presented In A Tri-fold Jacket
The music heard on IN CONCERT was recorded at four stops during the band's 111-show world tour promoting Tusk. This new collection serves as a worthy companion to the classic 1980 album Live. Although a few songs are duplicated from that album, including "Say You Love Me," "Landslide" and "Go Your Own Way," each performance on IN CONCERT is unique and taken from a different show.
IN CONCERT boasts 10 songs not heard on Live, including "World Turning" from the Fleetwood Mac's 1975 self-titled release, and "The Chain" from the band's best-selling album Rumours (1977), a Grammy-award winning juggernaut that has sold more than 40 million copies.
All of the live music from the 2015 reissue of Tusk will be available on March 4 from Warner Bros. Records as a three-LP set. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl, the albums will be presented in a tri-fold jacketLP 1

Try! Live In ConcertBack in 2005, longtime listeners could have seen it coming: it was only a matter of time before John Mayer dropped the pop star burden and proved he could really bring it on the six-string! Chalk it up to one too many Dave Matthews comparisons, or his image after the success of Your Body Is a Wonderland, but something convinced Mayer it was time to take it to the next level.
With help from studio pros Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino, he succeeds on Try!
His covers of Jimi Hendrix's Wait Until Tomorrow and Ray Charles' I Got a Woman should convince even the most purist Guitar Player magazine subscibers. Or else, the blues-rock opener Who Do You Think I Was will do for sure.
Mixed in with the Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton-esque stuff are a few mellow numbers (Daughters most notably), but even those songs seem juiced up with rock-God hormones.

Peter, Paul & Mary: In Concert
Peter, Paul & Mary In Concert Reissue From Analogue Productions!
200-Gram Pressing By Quality Record Pressings!
Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
This double album originally released in 1964 opens with a then-new Bob Dylan song, The Times They Are A' Changin', and closes with the best-known song ever written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hayes, If I Had a Hammer. That seems to sum up Peter, Paul & Mary, but In Concert offers a lot more than that, writes All Music Guide.
The surprises include vignettes in blues and gospel, and, most notably, the group's humorous digressions. Peter, Paul & Mary spared few opportunities for a good laugh on stage, beginning with the introduction to A' Soalin', which shows off a lightheartedness that was an essential part of who they were, even as it leads into an exquisitely sung round-like piece that should have found its way into the repertory of Steeleye Span. Blue gives the trio a chance to play around with rock & roll, from doo wop to British Invasion, through the song Old Blue (satirizing folk music purists at the same time), and Paul Stookey adds his own sound effect embellishments to Woody Guthrie's Car-Car. The solo spots are also worthwhile, particularly Peter Yarrow's introspective version of Le Deserteur, followed by his dazzling, rousing sing-along on Oh, Rock My Soul; and Mary Travers' rendition of Single Girl, a low-key proto-feminist song. The group's rendition of It's Raining achieves an exquisite mix of gossamer textured harmonizing and thematic innocence, and their rendition of the Reverend Gary Davis' If I Had My Way is a bracing re-interpretation for three interwoven voices. Finally, the version of If I Had a Hammer that closes this album is superior to their hit single of the same song. Mastered by Kevin Gray, 200-gram pressing by Quality Record Pressings, gatefold jacket.

OVSE-MOV-1241xBranford Marsalis Quartet
In My Solitude: Live In Concert At Grace CathedralBranford Marsalis is one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time. The three-time Grammy Award® winner has continued to exercise and expand his skills as an instrumentalist, a composer, and the head of Marsalis Music, the label he founded in 2002 that has allowed him to produce both his own projects and those of the Jazz world's most promising new and established artists.
Branford Marsalis is one of the few illustrious Jazz artists who have performed at Grace Cathedral since Duke Ellington helped consecrate the cathedral in 1965 with his Concert of Sacred Music. Marsalis gave a performance of both composed and improvised music. He played a solo work written for oboe by C.P.E. Bach, solo saxophone pieces by Steve Lacy and Ryo Noda, and a beautiful version of Hoagy Carmichaels 'Stardust'. All of these pieces are connected by improvisations from Branford, which keep the music of various genres flowing and hold the album together.
Leader of one of the finest jazz Quartets today, and a frequent soloist with classical ensembles, Branford has become increasingly sought after as a featured soloist with orchestras around the world.1. Stardust

Big Band And Quartet In Concert (Speakers Corner)Thelonious Monk could walk from his flat to New York's famous Philharmonic Hall on the corner of 64th Street and Broadway when he made his very first appearance there with his Big Band in December 1963. And the other musicians could get there on the underground: Phil Woods, Steve Lacy, Thad Jones - all of them were members of Monk's closest circle of collaborators. It is no wonder then that the well-known themes were highly agreeable and harmonious. I Mean You, Four In One and Epistrophy resounded through the auditorium, the audience was thrilled, Thelonious laughed and danced and a short while later fans could listen to parts of the concert on a recording released by Columbia Records. In a break for a smoke, Monk sat himself down at the piano and played Darkness On The Delta - nocturnal atmosphere pure.
Does it bear the patina of times long past? Absolutely not! Thelonious Monk is as red-hot as he ever was.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Bob Dylan In Concert: Brandeis University 1963Last Known Archival Recording of Dylan Before He Became a Star
Professionally Recorded on 7-Inch Reel-to-Reel Tape: Phenomenal Sonics Capture the 21-Year-Old Bard Solo and Acoustic
Features Stripped-Down, Intense Versions of Songs from the Then-Forthcoming The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and Still Long-Off The Times They Are-A Changin'
Early, archival insights into the burgeoning genius of a young Bob Dylan don't come any better than this: A previously unknown live recording of a 21-year-old Dylan taped at the Brandeis First Annual Folk Festival in Waltham, Massachusetts, on May 10, 1963, Bob Dylan In Concert - Brandeis University 1963 captures the rollicking wit, deadpan delivery, and driving intensity of the young artist's onstage persona in an assortment of end-of-the-world songs (none of them commercially available at the time) performed in front of an appreciative audience two weeks prior to the release of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. Indeed, these two performances took place just weeks before Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind became a smash for Peter, Paul, and Mary and months before his appearance at the Newport Folk Festival would forever change the course of music history.
The Bob Dylan In Concert - Brandeis University 1963 concert tape was discovered recently in the archives of the noted music writer and Rolling Stone co-founder Ralph J. Gleason, where it sat on a shelf for more than forty years. It had been forgotten, until it was found last year in the clearing of the house after my mother died, said Toby Gleason, Ralph's son. It's a seven inch reel-to-reel that sounds like it was taped from the mixing desk.
Drawn from two sets that spring night at the Brandeis Folk Festival, tracks on Bob Dylan In Concert - Brandeis University 1963 include Honey, Just Allow Me On More Chance (incomplete), Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues, Ballad Of Hollis Brown, Masters of War, Talkin' World War III Blues, Bob Dylan's Dream, and Talkin' Bear Mountain Picnic Massacre Blues.
Previously available as a limited time offer, Bob Dylan In Concert - Brandeis University 1963 has been reissued in response to overwhelming popular demand for a wide release. The new Columbia/Legacy edition features liner notes penned exclusively for this release by noted Bob Dylan scholar Michael Gray, author of The Bob Dylan Encyclopedia and the three-volume Song & Dance Man: The Art of Bob Dylan, who provided an explication of the album's seven songs and historical/cultural context for the performances.1. Also included on the album are The Inch Worm and the ballad Every Time We Say Goodbye. Although the sound and passion of the group on this date will not surprise veteran listeners, it is always interesting to hear new variations of songs already definitively recorded in the studios. Cal Tjader's Latin ConcertAs Cal Tjader's reputation and popularity grew as one of the major forces in Afro-Cuban jazz, he was able to hire some of the music's most able artists. On this 1958 album, recorded at San Francisco's famous Black Hawk, his band included percussionists Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo, pianist Vince Guaraldi, and bassist Al McKibbon, a veteran of the Dizzy Gillespie band that opened American ears to the charms and urgencies of Afro-Cuban rhythms. Having Al in the band, Tjader once said, is an impossible dream come true. Among the pieces here are several by Tjader and one that was destined to become a classic in the literature of Latin jazz, Ray Bryant's Cubano Chant.1. Viva Cepeda
