    Man About Town

Man About Town is the fourth full-length record from Grammy nominated recording artist, Mayer Hawthorne.

On Man About Town, Hawthorne is back to handling the lion's share of production. He also played damn near every instrument on the album and penned every track. His songwriting pulls from his life and observations; his heartache and joy. Sometimes it's groovy, other times he's vulnerable and sincere. It's the shit people listen to when they wanna get drunk and stoned and sentimental. The reason? Mayer Hawthorne stays making that timeless, soulful, baby-making music.

Freddy King Gives You a Bonanza of Instrumentals

Freddie Kings second all-instrumental album, Freddy King Gives You a Bonanza of Instrumentals, originally released in 1965 on King Records Federal subsidiary, continued the artists winning streak, with such memorable King originals as Manhole, Freeway 75, Low Tide and Funnybone. The 12-song LP demonstrates once again why King was one of his generations most revered electric guitarists.

Although his career was tragically cut short by his death at the age of 42, Freddie King was one of Americas most distinctive and influential electric blues guitarists, leaving an indelible mark on more than one generation of guitar superstars, including Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Rolling Stones Mick Taylor. The Texas-born axeman began playing guitar at the age of six, and in his teens moved with his family to the South Side of Chicago, where he was inspired by witnessing club gigs by such seminal electric bluesmen as Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers and Elmore James. Originally billed as Freddy King, he began recording in 1957, revealing a massively influential style that merged his Texas and Chicago influences, and soon achieved commercial success with a series of infectious instrumental hits.

Sundazed Musics new vinyl edition of this electric blues landmark has been sourced from the original mono master, and pressed on 180-gram vinyl. It features an exact reproduction of the original LP cover art..

    King Strings

John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Johnny "Guitar" Watson And More On 180 Gram Vinyl Pressed At R.T.I.

Selected from the crown jewels of the rich King-Federal-DeLuxe discography, King Strings features rocking, socking guitar instrumentals from the Cincinnati-based family of labels cut between 1949 and 1962, programmed for power! Fashioned as a vintage King LP from the era and containing a killer line-up of the biggest talents the stable of labels offered, this is the historic various artists collection that should have been issued circa 1962. King was central to the underlying creative flow in R&B during the era, and the recordings here show the depth of style and synergy that the label routinely captured on vinyl. From the proto-funk groove of Hooker's "Stomp Boogie" (under the pseudonym Texas Slim) to two cuts of Baker magic captured in Paris over a decade later, and including key cuts from Freddy King, Albert King, Johnny "Guitar" Watson and many others in between, you'll individually hear a variety of instruments, tones and techniques, but together the clear, common artistry of the players' sovereign ability, sequenced like a long, climactic solo-this is the sound of some of the most heralded talent of the guitar generation! Includes a rich, detailed insert with rare photos and extensive liner notes by Colin Escott. Join six-string soul royalty for a showcase from the company that called itself The King of Them All!

Let's Hide Away and Dance Away

King scored his biggest hit with 1961's Hide Away, which became his signature tune; it also became a standard for bluesy bar bands on both sides of the Atlantic, and a regular feature of Eric Clapton's live sets. King followed Hide Away with a memorable series of self-penned instrumental hits, including the blues standards San-Ho-Zay and The Stumble. The aforementioned tunes are all featured on King's all-instrumental 1961 LP Let's Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King. Originally released on the legendary King label, it remains one of the most influential guitar albums of all time, and demonstrates why King remains a guitar icon.

    The Genius Of Earl Hooker

Earl Hooker was an incredible slide guitarist residing in Chicago during the 1950s and '60s. Hip Hug-Her

Booker T. & The MG's smoked the charts once again in 1967 with the fabulously slinky Hip Hug-Her -just like they'd never left. As house band for Memphis' Stax Records, backing Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and Wilson Pickett, the MG's had written the book on instrumental soul music, and the Hip Hug-Her album impeccably testifies to the greatness of Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and Alvin Jackson. MG's versions of the Young Rascals' Groovin' and Bobby Hebb's Sunny were so downright in-the-groove, they became big hits themselves all over again. Getz Au Go Go

Although the name Stan Getz (tenor sax) was initially synonymous with the West Coast cool scene during the mid-to-late 1950s, he likewise became a key component in the Bossa Nova craze of the early 1960s. Getz Au Go Go (1965) is Stan Getz in his prime, recorded with perhaps one of the best quartets of his career, featuring Bossa Nova singer Astrud Gilberto.

The album was recorded in 1964 during two concerts in the venerable Greenwich Village venue, the CafÉ Au Go Go, two months after Astrud Gilberto's Girl From Ipanema became a Top Five pop single. However, the focus of Getz Au Go Go steers away from the Brazilian flavored fare, bringing Gilberto into the realm of a decidedly more North American style.

That said, there are a few Antonio Carlos Jobim compositions -- Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars) and One Note Samba -- both of which would be considered as jazz standards in years to follow. The album boasts wonderful versions of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's It Might as Well Be Spring, and the scintillating instrumental Summertime, from Porgy & Bess.

The band features a young Gary Burton (vibraphone), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Gene Cherico (bass), and Joe Hunt (drums). There are a few personnel substitutions, with Helcio Milito (drums) and Chuck Israels (bass), respectively, filling in. Getz Au Go Go is highly recommended for all dimensions of jazz enthusiasts.

Remastered Double LP With 12-Page Booklet

Includes Liner Notes By Tim Lawrence, Ernie Brooks And Arthur Russell

All Material Previously Released On The Audika CD Compilation First Thought Best Thought

Before Disco, and before the transcendent echoes, Arthur wanted to be a composer.

His journey began in 1972, leaving home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Heading west to Northern California, Arthur studied Indian classical composition at the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music followed by western orchestral music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, before ending two years later in New York at the Manhattan School of Music.

Traversing the popular and the serious, Arthur composed "Instrumentals" in 1974, inspired by the photography of his Buddhist teacher, Yuko Nonomura, as Arthur described, "I was awakened, or re-awakened to the bright-sound and magical qualities of the bubblegum and easy-listening currents in American popular music".

Initially intended to be performed in one 48 hour cycle, "Instrumentals" was in fact only performed in excerpts a handful of times as a work in progress.

The legendary performances captured live in New York at The Kitchen (1975 and 1978) and Franklin St. Arts Center (1977) feature the cream of that eras downtown new music scene including Ernie Brooks, Rhys Chatham, Julius Eastman, Jon Gibson, Peter Gordon, Garrett List, Andy Paley, Bill Ruyle, Dave Van Tieghem, and Peter Zummo.

Pitchfork lauded "Instrumentals" Vol. 1 as a masterpiece and one of Arthur's "greatest achievements". Americana touching on Copeland, Ives, and maybe even Brian Wilson. "Instrumentals" Vol. 2 is a moving, deeply pastoral work performed by the CETA Orchestra and conducted by Julius Eastman.

Also included are two of Arthur's most elusive compositions, Reach One, and Sketch For "Face Of Helen". Recorded live in 1975 at Phill Niblock's Experimental Intermedia Foundation, Reach One is a minimal, hypnotic ambient soundscape written and performed for two Fender Rhodes pianos. Sketch For "Face Of Helen" was inspired by Arthur's work with friend and composer Arnold Dreyblatt, recorded with an electronic tone generator, keyboard and ambient recordings of a rumbling tugboat from the Hudson River.

For this remastered vinyl edition, a key part of Arthur's musical life has been restored. The sparkling, multidimensional results take the listener closer to Arthur's coast-to-coast journey: his iconoclastic determination to combine pop and art music; and his desire to make music that would resonate in the present and, ultimately, across time.

PayJay Productions, Inc. was the company James Dewitt "J Dilla" Yancey founded in 2001 to
house his production company and his publishing company.

The Estate of James Yancey has revived PayJay as a functioning imprint, and announced the
release of J Dilla's long lost vocal album, The Diary. The tracks come straight from multi-track
masters found on 2-inch tape shortly after Dilla's passing in 2006. Many were mixed by Dilla
himself. Those that weren't have been mixed by engineer Dave Cooley, who worked
extensively with Dilla during his years in Los Angeles. Using Dilla's original demo mixes as his
guide, Cooley attempted to finalize Dilla's vision for these tracks, while keeping all of the
elements that Dilla had in place in his original demos present.

The Diary is now available as an instrumental release, featuring production by the likes of

    Event II: Instrumentals

    INSTRUMENTAL VERSION

Deltron 3030 is composed of a trinity of alt-rap all-stars: Master lyricist Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, superproducer Dan "The Automator" Nakamura and
virtuoso turntablist DJ Kid Koala. Individually, they stand at the top of their respective musical disciplines; together, on the eponymous Deltron 3030, they
warped space, bent time, transcended genre and blew minds, creating an album that still stands today as one of the most important records in the annals
    of underground hiphop.

Both timely and avant garde, Deltron 3030 accurately - if surrealistically - captured the spirit of the cusp of the millennium, an era when a technolog ydriven
stock market bubble was on the verge of bursting, when the political world was entering an era of unprecedented partisanship, when global
inequality was beginning to skyrocket. Critics dubbed it a masterpiece: The most purely enjoyable hip-hop album of 2000, NME declared. Vice praised
Deltron 3030 as a dope hip-hop concept album...visionary sci-fi rap for comic book heads, cyberpunks and conspiracy theorists that closed the gaps
between indie-rap, boom bap and future-music. It's not only one of the best albums in either of their catalogs, but one of the best to come out of the new
underground, period, said AllMusic.com. Pitchfork called Nakamura the poet laureate of creepy, oppressive beats, describing the album as an exciting
reimagining of the future from the bottom up that reveals Del as a surprisingly acute social critic.

Now, over a decade later, they're finally releasing the long-awaited follow-up to their debut - an album titled Deltron 3030: Event II. This time, the album
has a specific story, says Del. The Deltron world has gone too far with technology. Everything's destroyed, and you just see the remnants of our
technology. The streets are run by criminals, the police are outnumbered and outgunned, and we're like pirates, running rogue, doing what we do to
survive. That's the scene of it. We're trying to be as literary as possible while dealing with a musical format. I don't know if you could even categorize this
as a hip hop album - it's more like a rock opera, but using rap.

He notes that the words, music and narrative have been deliberately chosen to put listeners into a specific emotional state. This record took 13 years,
and the whole time fans are telling us we better come out with Deltron right now - quit teasing me, laughs Del. Well, this is beyond a regular album.
Because I would say, me, Dan and Koala, we aren't limited by what other rap groups do - we're musicians first. I studied music theory for ten years. Dan
and Koala been learning music since they were kids. We're bringing it all together here, everything, and the fans, the critics, they all going to be surprised
by what we got. You'll see.

Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde is, simply put, one of the most perfect albums in the history of recorded music regardless of genre. From the lyrical flow of Slimkid3, Bootie Brown, Imani and Fatlip to the cover art by Fuct the project is the embodiment of excellence start to finish. Musically, the foundation of this perfection is the production work of J-Swift. His use of jazz samples, phat beats and live instrumentation had the ultimate effect of "creating their own sonic utopia", as NME put it.

As such it's more than fitting that Pharcyde's Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde be released as an all instrumental outing. Swift's adventurous use of samples from jazz, R&B, funk, classic rock and more melded with his personal additions of live instrumentation including piano, bass, and Fender Rhodes along with drum arrangements from fellow producer JMD create a lush, jazzy soundscape that works well as a stand alone recording.

Though the west coast's predominant G-Funk sound of the time or the east coast's conscious kings De La Soul may have sold more records at the time, The Pharcyde and J-Swift's work on Bizarre Ride has stood the text of time and continues to resonate with fans new and old in a way that few records have or ever will.

Adrian Younge Presents: The Delfonics: Instrumentals

Linear Labs Now Brings You Adrian Younge Presents: The Delfonics In A Never Before Issued Instrumental Edition

The Delfonics is the quintessential sweet-soul group. Hailing from Philadelphia, the crew formed in the mid-'60s, with the definitive original lineup as lead
vocalist and songwriter William Hart, his brother Wilbert Hart, and mutual high-school friend Randy Cain (later replaced by Major Harris). With the help of
producer/arranger Thom Bell-and with William's signature falsetto-the Delfonics set the tone for all other sweet-soul groups that would follow.

Between 1968 and 1974, the Delfonics had twenty charting singles and won a Grammy for their massive hit Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time). Out of
their twenty hits, William Hart wrote or co-wrote eighteen of them, thirteen with collaborator Thom Bell, like La-La Means I Love You, He Don't Really
Love You, and Ready or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide From Love). After five albums, the Delfonics would break up for good in 1975. Brothers William and
Wilbert parted ways and over the years often toured separately with different forms of the group. But over forty years after writing his first hit, lead singer
and songwriter William Hart has put his unmistakable falsetto back on analog tape and reinvented the Delfonics brand for a new generation.

Los Angeles producer/composer Adrian Younge envisioned a modern-day Delfonics album and pitched the idea to William Hart, who hopped a plane from
Philly to L.A. and began work on a new album. Younge helped to reshape the Delfonics by bringing on board two excellent young vocalists, Loren Oden
and Saudia Mills-as well as Om'Mas Keith on the single Stop and Look (And You Have Found Love)-to work alongside William. Adrian Younge is a
self-taught multi-instrumentalist who traded in his MPC sampler for a carefully curated studio of authentic gear. Younge rocketed to international
recognition after composing the original score for the film Black Dynamite and has since release ground-breaking projects including The Souls of
Mischief's "There Is Only Now" and Ghostface Killah's "Twelve Reasons to Die" concept albums.

Younge brings a unique perspective on modern rhythm and blues. I was studying Delfonics stuff for years, Younge reveals. I studied Delfonics to do the
Black Dynamite stuff. I've been a fan, and I've just studied their music for so long that when I got the opportunity to do this, it just really blew my mind.
From the very beginning, it was Younge's intention to create an old-school Delfonics vibe but offer a very hip-hop-informed perspective. There are
distinguishing musical elements that Delfonics fans will recognize, like the electric sitar guitar, the French horn, string arrangements, and the tympani. I
want people to expect something classic but not expect to hear the same thing rehashed, Younge says. I want to push it forward. William and I strived to
    push this forward.

Younge now makes this breath-taking musical outing available once again on his own Linear Labs imprint.

12 Reasons To Die II Instrumental

Ghostface Killah released his acclaimed comic book-based concept album, Twelve Reasons to Die. That record, which saw Ghostface portraying a fictionalized version of himself in a Spaghetti Western-style story, was produced and arranged by Los Angeles composer Adrian Younge. Now, the two have reunited for a sequel to their collaborative effort, appropriately dubbed Twelve Reasons to Die II.

Hailu Mergia & His Classical Instrument: Shemonmuanaye

Hailu Mergia is a one-man band. In 1985, master accordionist and veteran bandleader, arranger and keyboardist released the Hailu Mergia & His Classical Instrument cassette. In a nostalgic effort to bring back the vintage accordion sound of his youth, Hailu gave Ethiopian music a sonic makeover. He was already celebrated for his work with the groundbreaking Addis Ababa ethio-jazz and funk outfit Walias Band. With imagination and a visionary sense of the self-contained possibilities of modern music, he captured the popular sounds of the past using the modern tools of the day.

The reissue of this recording brings back a moment when Ethiopian music was
shifting from acoustic-based performances to recordings using more and more
synthesized elements. While the resulting sound of that shift has its critics Hailu
Mergia's initial experiments with switched-on solo instrumentals based on
Ethiopian folk and popular music captures a singular feeling dripping in
ambiance and a very human emotional energy

Library Catalog Music Series Volume 7: Music For Paradise Armor

Instruments of Science & Technology's Richard Swift (born Ricardo Sigilfredo Olivarez Swift-Ochoa, 1977) lives in the NW region of the U.S. He's made lots of different music. He normally sings, but not here. Music for Paradise Armor was made on varying mediums, a Tascam 4-track, an Otari 50/50 8-track, a 16-track machine by Studer and computer by Macintosh. There are, what Swift calls, modern clickity-clacks, zzzoops s s s and the occasional bleep bleep blaaaaap here. These sounds aim to reflect tech-centric life in the West.

When a broken finger hampered his ability to fret a guitar properly, Richard Swift returned to project B., an electronic endeavor titled Instruments of Science & Technology. Swift's second release under this moniker is a part of Asthmatic Kitty's Library Catalog Music series, and like the other volumes (which include contributions by Roberto Carlos Lange and James McAlister) it is comprised of meditative background instrumentals. Following format, Volume 7: Music for a Paradise Armor is a throwback to the spaced-out electronica and analog synthesizer sounds of the `70s. It's an unintrusive type of soundtrack that never demands attention, but washes by in a quick rush. Recorded using entirely analog equipment and tape machines (with some Mac Book assistance) the songs are filled with thumping ping-pong beats and synthesized textures that bear a resemblance to the deceptively complex soundscapes of Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, or the Moog-style blips of circuit wizards Bruce Haack and Hot Butter. Comparatively, this outing is a little more ambient and sparse than the Music from the Films of R/Swift was, with an otherworldly German flavor. It's also other-timely; evoking a time when video games were played with paddles, presumably in a room with shag carpeting. ~ Jason Lymangrover
