    Bleach (Deluxe Edition)

Originally recorded over three sessions with producer Jack Endino at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989, Bleach was released in June of 1989 and remains unequivocally and unsurprisingly Sub Pop's very favorite Nirvana full-length. The album initially sold 40,000 copies, but was brought into the international spotlight following the release and worldwide success of the group's 1991 sophomore effort, Nevermind. Subsequently, Bleach has gone on to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone.

Hailing from The Hagues blossoming 60s rock scene, Earth & Fire was already a well-known Prog-group in
The Netherlands before they scored an international hit with Weekend. A move towards mainstream 70s
pop with their new producer (and singer Jerney Kaagmans delectable blue leather catsuit) catapulted the
album Reality Fills Fantasy to the top of the album charts. Both the single and the album went platinum in
1979 and were voted single and album of the year by the Dutch public. A good example of Nederbeat,

Originally released in November 1970, Elvis: That's The Way It Is combined eight studio tracks, recorded in Nashville, and four live concert performances recorded in Las Vegas during Presley's 1970 'Summer Festival' season at The International Hotel in Las Vegas. Elvis played dozens of times at The International Hotel in 1969 and 1970 over several number of weeks. Elvis was on a roll and making big plans - including a feature film and studio time in Nashville.

When Elvis arrived at RCA's Studio B in Nashville on June 4, 1970, producer Felton Jarvis had assembled a hot new session band featuring Elvis' on-stage guitar legend James Burton. Five nights of recording generated material for no less than three future albums and four singles, including Elvis: That's The Way It Is.

This brand new 4LP version, That's The Way It Is (Expanded Edition) centers on one show at The International which was recorded and partially filmed by MGM. These show recordings are released for the first time in their entirety. The original RCA album is expanded with four single sides from the period, and a selection of fly-on-the-wall outtakes from the June Nashville sessions that produced the majority of tracks for the album.

With remastered audio and packed in a triple gatefold sleeve, this 4LP set includes a 16 page booklet with rare pictures and new liner notes.

Depending on whom you ask, Jack 'Oblivian' Yarber is either a rock legend or an obsolute unknown. And no one knows this dichotomy better than Yarber, who may be Memphis' most infuential active rock musician.

The list of noteworthy bands Yarber has been a member of over the years is massive and includes Johnny Vomit & the Dry Heaves, new-wavers the End, '68 Comeback, Knaughty Knights, and Tav Falco's Panther Burns. Two of Yarber's former bands, the Compulsive Gamblers and the Oblivians, have seen their reputation and following swell in the decade since their demise, especially the Oblivians, whose international fan base borders on rabid. Due largely to his stint in these bands, both partnerships with Greg Cartwrigth, now of Reigning Sound, Yarber has been an acknowledged influence on artists such as the White Stripes, the Hives, and Jay Reatard.

In the years since, Yarber has toured and released a string of successful solo albums under the Jack O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers moniker. Originally conceived in 2000 as a partnership with former Impala and current Bo-Keys bassist Scott Bomar, the band quickly morphed into Yarber's solo incarnation after Bomar became occupied with film scoring and production work. The band has had a revolving door for side players ever since, at different times including current River City Tanlines John Bonds and Terrence Bishop, Neighborhood Texture Jam guitarist John Wittmore, the Reigning Sound's Greg Roberson, Bluff City Backslider Adam Woodard, and a host of other recognizable local musicians.

Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man - Philippe Petit (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express), the film boasts cutting edge technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story. The Walk is true big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. The film is also a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.

Alan Silvestri has scored some of the most iconically revered films in Hollywood history, amassing over a hundred credits to the tune of two Oscar and Golden Globe nominations (a.o. for the Forrest Gump soundtrack), as well as three Grammy awards. While stylistically diverse, the unifying voice of Alan's work is an unmistakable rhythmic melody whose themes continue to embody movie excitement and drama for generations of moviegoers.

This album is instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters record, but there's something deeper and more musical to it. I think that these cities and these people influenced us to stretch out and explore new territory, without losing our 'sound'.-Dave Grohl

FOO FIGHTERS have confirmed the worldwide release date of the band's long awaited follow up the 4X-Grammy-winning, international #1 Wasting Light: The band's eighth studio album of all-new material will be titled Sonic Highways.

Produced by Butch Vig and Foo Fighters and being released in the U.S. on Roswell Records/RCA Records, Sonic Highways clocks in at just over 44 minutes and is made up of the following tracks:

Though not a soundtrack album by any stretch, Sonic Highways shares its title with the Dave Grohl-directed eight-episode HBO series described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music and premiering Friday, October 17 at 11 p.m.. For the album and series, Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear wrote and recorded one song in each of these eight cities, delving into the local musical currents: how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years, and in turn the impact those people had on the cultural fabric of their hometowns. All songs feature local legends sitting in, with every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews for the HBO series, and other local personalities who became part of the process.

    Rock Steady

Ranked 316/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

They say you can never go home again.

Yet, on their new Interscope Records release and fifth album, Rock Steady, No Doubt has embarked on a globe-spanning musical adventure that proves, once and for all, that home is where the heart is.

At the heart of the quartet's fifteen-year musical journey is a sound, a style and a sensibility that celebrates their enduring bond with millions of fans worldwide: the sheer pleasure of pure pop - danceable, hummable, instantly accessible songs that have become indispensable additions to the soundtrack of our life and times. And now with Rock Steady, that soundtrack signals a return to some of the key creative elements that have made No Doubt one of today's most popular and enduring bands. Simply put, No Doubt is ready to party.

"It's the hardest thing in the world just to be simple, to let the music and the words speak for what you're feeling and, hopefully, to share that feeling. And the feeling we all shared on this album turned out to be pretty simple, too: we were in a good mood."

So says vocalist, lyricist and glorious gamine Gwen Stefani on the inspiration that ignited the dozen deliriously entertaining new tracks comprising Rock Steady. With all-original material penned by Gwen and No Doubt's dynamic songwriting duo of Tony Kanal and Tom Dumont and a roster of producers that pretty much covers the cutting edge of the studio art, Rock Steady, recorded in such far flung locations as London and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Jamaica, is without question the most eclectic, wide-ranging and stylistically diverse offering in the band's extraordinary career. It is also a loving tribute to the musical roots that have nourished No Doubt from their very inception.

"We were on tour pretty much all of last year," explains drummer Adrian Young, "and whenever we had some down time, we found ourselves listening to lots of dancehall. It was kind of like getting back to where we once belonged." Dancehall, the exuberant evolution of reggae, ska and calypso currently rocking the clubs and studios of Jamaica, proved a potent point of departure for the group when they convened in early 2001 to begin work on a new album. "We were part of the whole ska revival back when we first got together," continues Adrian. "The fact is, we had to work hard to prove we had a wider range, and I guess we did that. Because this time around we didn't feel like we had anything to prove. The whole point was to follow the music, wherever it led."

"Following the music" would lead the quartet to a variety of exotic locales as they indulged their instincts and experimented with sounds and settings that would capture the sensational new music beginning to emerge. "This album was less about technique and more about attitude," asserts Tony. "We took it one day at a time and it became a very spontaneous process. Tom had set up a studio at his place in L.A. and we'd meet there just to try out different ideas. Whereas before we'd write everything with a guitar or bass, this time we started with just beats and grooves and keyboards and built from there. After a week or two of songwriting, Gwen had a trip planned to London. Since we were having such a good time we just packed up and followed her over there. We knew we were onto something."

"It felt like starting over," is Tom's assessment. "We had spent two years working on Return Of Saturn because we felt it was important to prove we could do a record that had depth and substance. Once we got that out of our system it was time to have some fun."

Return Of Saturn, the group's smash 2000 release, did indeed establish No Doubt's ability to fashion songs of substance as well as style. It also conclusively demonstrated that the group's 1995 breakthrough release, Tragic Kingdom was more than a flash in the pan, although it was a distinctly dazzling flash that elevated the group to world class status with a solid string of hit singles. "We'd already done most of what we'd set out to accomplish," continues Tom. "We wanted try something fresh."

Something fresh and, as it turned out, something tried and true. "With all the dancehall we'd been listening to it was only natural that some of that rhythm would seep into our new songs," Gwen adds. "We ended up going to Jamaica without really knowing exactly what we'd find when we got there. That was the whole plan from the beginning not to have a plan."

What No Doubt found in the lush musical environs of the island was a creative collaboration with some of Jamaica's most revered producers including the legendary team of Sly & Robbie who sat behind the board for the album's debut single "Hey Baby" and "Underneath It All," a tune written by Gwen with Eurthymics mainstay Dave Stewart during the group's London sojourn. They would also go on record with the fast rising dancehall duo of Steely & Clevie, who worked their magic for the incendiary selection, "Start The Fire." Remarks Tom, "Going to Jamaica and working with the great artists there had always been a dream of ours. Having that opportunity is one the best things about having some success. It's more important than any amount of fame or fortune."

As the spring of 2001 turned to summer the pace of recording stepped up, along with the group's increasingly bold ventures into new creative territory. In Los Angeles they added hip-hop to the mix with the streetwise sensibilities of The Neptunes, co-writers on the album's opening track, the scorching "Hella Good." Next they huddled with high-profile mixmaster Nellee Hooper on Rock Steady's title track as well as such standout selections as "In My Head," "Running," "Detective" and the above mentioned "Hella Good." Along the way they logged time with William Orbit for "Making Out," Ric Ocasek on "Platinum Blonde Life" and "Don't Let Me Down," and the inimitable Prince who co-produced and provided backing vocals on the drop dead gorgeous "Waiting Room."

But mixing and matching songs and producers was only part of the creative evolution that took place with Rock Steady. Says Tony, "Our attitude from the beginning was that we'd do whatever it took to make the music work. We've always been a very self-contained unit. This time we wanted to open it up, to find out what other people could bring to the party."

"The whole album was an exercise in spontaneity," adds Gwen, "and that challenged me to write more directly from my thoughts and feelings. I threw away my thesaurus and put aside my influences, everyone from Joni Mitchell to Sylvia Plath. I wanted to write songs about how it felt to be alive right now and that feeling, despite everything that going on in the world, is optimistic and full of hope. This is a time to affirm what's good and positive in our lives and if we can convey even a small part of the fun and excitement we had making this music, then we've done what we set out to do."

Hot on the heels of Rock Steady's release comes news of an extensive touring schedule that includes select dates with U2 as well as an extensive itinerary of international headlining dates. "We're primarily a live band," comments Tony. "That's how we started and that's how we maintain contact with our fans. Over the past couple of years, as the No Doubt machine got bigger, it's been more difficult to maintain that connection. But this time around,we're determined to stay true to the spirit of the music. It's about having a good time, about dancing in aisles and singing along. We all need that and it's what this tour is going to be about."

"After fifteen years together you naturally create all kinds of rules about how things should be," concludes Gwen. "There comes a time when you've got to throw the rules out and start all over again. That's what keeps it fun and interesting. For us that time has come."

It's a sentiment that gets to the heart of the brilliant music on Rock Steady, an album that finds No Doubt comfortable at home with the risks and rewards of true originality. It's also proof positive that, when No Doubt throws a party, everyone's invited.

    What One Becomes

SUMAC is the trio of Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Mamiffer) on guitar & vocals, Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) on drums, and Brian Cook (Russian Circles, These Arms Are Snakes, Botch) on bass whose ability to deliver punishing music is matched only by the weight of their pedigree. Turner is the founder of the influential Hydra Head Records as well as the boundry pushing SIGE label and since his days in Isis has consistenetly challenged himself to push the boundries of heavy music. Cook's ability to delivery complex bass lines are matched by his bone shaking heavy tones. Yachyshyn's drumming abilities are much lauded, especially by Dave Grohl who often calls him out as his favorite drummer currently playing.

Together on their new epic double album What One Becomes the trio walk the line between chaos and control. This sophomore album sees the band take a leap forward from their debut The Deal (2015) revealing a new side of Turner's combustible songwriting and guitar playing. Fans of the legendary Isis and cult heros Old Man Gloom will not be disappointed. There is a profound anxiety that leaches through What One Becomes. SUMAC's choreographed structures parallel the internal and personal struggles with anxiety. They seek to identify the source, devise a course of action, and confront that condition at hand. SUMAC channels psychic distress into their rigorously algebraic maneuvers and syllable-crack dissonance.

NEW REGA FONO MC PLAYS THE PERFECT PARTNER

Having recently launched the new Ania moving coil cartridge, Rega has set their minds to the perfect pairing of phonostage. Fono MC is crafted to be that partner, giving users an ideal phono pre-amp that matches Ania's electrical characteristics perfectly. Housed in a sleek new case that matches the look of the 2017 Brio amplifier, Fono MC makes a great shelf-mate too. The sound of Fono MC is quiet, detailed, insightful, dynamic, and well-timed.

While Fono MC has the ideal settings for Rega moving coil cartridges, it is fully adjustable ensuring that its plays very well with pretty much any other MC cartridge on the market. With 2 gain, 2 capacitance, and 4 resistance settings, it can be finely tailored to suit your cartridge's needs and your listening tastes.

Borrowing heavily from its big brother Aria phonostage, Fono MC uses low-noise, high-impedance FETs that minimize negative interactions from the cartridge. RIAA equalization is handled by MUSE op-amps, similar to those in the Brio amp. High-quality polypropylene capacitors are used in the signal path for excellent linearity. The casework is aluminum that best shields the sensitive internal circuits. Power is supplied by a 24VAC wall-wort, further minimizing negative interactions and noise.

Go All the Way: The Absolute Finest Singles from the 1970s Power-Pop Mavens

Vocalist Eric Carmen and Co. Deliver One Punchy Chord and Contagious Melody After Another

Britpop, Psychedelia, Pop, and Arena Rock Blends Drive Hits Such as "Go All the Way" and "I Wanna Be With You"

Mellifluously Airy Harmonies: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

    Red Colored Vinyl

The matching Mod suits, trim haircuts, and youthful appearance weren't just for play. The Raspberries' looks extended to their irresistibly catchy and refreshingly concise music, a blend of bouncy Britpop, lazy-day psychedelia, mellifluous pop, and crunch arena rock that stands apart from the epic pomposity of most of the early 70s' commercial trends and continues to linger as some of the most expertly crafted sounds ever created. Over the course of four albums, the singles-minded group cut their share of memorable sides. They're all here on this 1976 compilation. And now, they possess a fidelity that even the original LPs lacked.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's internationally renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Label LP extracts more information from the grooves, extending the spaces between instruments and breathing newfound life into the swirling vocal harmonies. The group's trademark singing is airier, the highs free of constraints, and the string-laden accents enriched with natural decay. Improved, too, are the quartet's amplifier-driven chords and frisky drumming, aspects that possess a palpable crunch typical of British Invasion acts.

Adept at both gorgeous devotional ballads and upbeat, fist-pumping rockers, the Raspberries claim a multifaceted talent in leader Eric Carmen, a crooner whose capacity to turn on a dime from a sweet falsetto to searing cry infuses the band's tunes with emotional exuberance and bittersweet weight. He lends sentimental grace to epic piano weepers such as "Don't Want to Say Goodbye" and amiable snarl to carefree numbers like "I Wanna Be With You." However, the Raspberries' greatest asset relates to their harmonic prowess.

Multi-part group vocals on bounding, surf-referencing fare ("Drivin' Around") and catchy, summery material ("Tonight") recall both the Beach Boys and Beatles. Yet the Raspberries bring a unique edge and R&B-etched rhythm to tunes that stand as proto power-pop staples. Thematically, the ensemble keeps lyrics as simple and memorable as its hooks, with a majority of songs speaking to the pleasures of romance and love. Breezy, fun, and indelible, it's music that never goes out of style.

    Antiphon

Midlake returns with their new studio album "Antiphon". An antiphon is a call-and-response style of singing, from Gregorian chants to sea shanties. In the
case of Denton, Texas' favorite sons Midlake, it's the perfect title for a bold response to a new phase in the band's illustrious career, with a re-jigged lineup
and a newly honed sound as rich and symphonic as it is dynamic and kaleidoscopic.

Anyone who knows Midlake's preceding albums will recognize some constituent parts of Antiphon: the quirky psychedelia of 2004 debut Bamnan and
Slivercork, the '70s soft-rock strains of breakthrough album The Trials Of Van Occupanther and the Brit-folk infusion of 2010's The Courage Of Others.
But their fourth album is another fascinating departure, but also a logical progression. The sound is simultaneously familiar and changed.

"It's always through the scope of Midlake," says vocalist/guitarist Eric Pulido, "but on Antiphon we wanted to embrace the psychedelia, style and nuance
you might hear in bands from yesteryear while also being aware of music influences leading up to and present now. The result was less folk and more
rock. Less nostalgic and more progressive. Now the sky's the limit."

This growth is down to the ambition and ability of Pulido (vocals, guitars, keyboards) Paul Alexander (bass, keyboards, bassoon, guitars, backing vocals),
McKenzie Smith (drums, percussion) and Eric Nichelson (guitars, autoharp), plus Jesse Chandler (keyboards, piano, flute, backing vocals) and Joey
McClellan (guitars, backing vocals) from Midlake's last live incarnation. But it's also down to the absence of Midlake's former principal singer Tim Smith,
who left the band in November 2012.In the fall-out over the spoils of what had been recorded, the remaining members decided to start afresh, and wrote
and recorded Antiphon in six harmonious months - bar 'Vale', which had been demoed without Smith during one of the sessions. With its ravishing,
rippling textures symptomatic of Antiphon's scale, 'Vale' showed how far they'd already come. The remaining nine tracks - the album is free-flowing in
feel, concise in structure - confirm it's very much Midlake, but uncannily rebooted, and relaxed.

After the costumed antics of the band's last two album covers, the color-saturated globe on Antiphon takes a different tack, and a broader picture outside
of Midlake's internal dynamic. "It conjures imagery of a celebratory fireworks display," Pulido suggests "but it's actually a diagram of an exclusive group of
connected entities with disproportionate amounts of control over the global economy. It's a beautiful way to show a darker side of things in the world."

Antiphon has a similarly paradoxical nature - from stress and upset, something positive and creative has emerged. Midlake is dead, long live Midlake.

    Driving Towards The Daylight

On May 21, 2012, internationally renowned guitar superstar Joe Bonamassa will release a brand new solo album 'Driving Towards The Daylight' on Provogue Records. 'Driving Towards The Daylight' was produced by Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin). This is their seventh collaboration in six years and Joe's 13th album.

Recorded at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, CA and Studio At The Palms in Las Vegas, NV, 'Driving Towards The Daylight' is a balanced back-to-basics album that highlights Bonamassa's signature style of roots blues with rock-and-roll guts, while honouring the traditions of the original blues musicians.

"We've taken some really traditional old blues songs - the Howlin' Wolf song 'Who's Been Talkin' and the Robert Johnson song 'Stones In My Passway,' and we've tried to imagine how they would do them in a rock context," said Shirley. "It's a very exciting return to the blues in a very visceral way. It's vibrant and it's gutsy and it's really, really rugged."

The album features five Bonamassa-penned originals including the bruising opener 'Dislocated Boy', the road warrior title track (and first single) 'Driving Towards The Daylight', 'I Got All You Need', 'Heavenly Soul' and 'Somewhere Trouble Don't Go'. Other tracks include Bonamassa's versions of Tom Waits' 'New Coat Of Paint', Bill Withers' 'Lonely Town Lonely Street', and 'A Place In My Heart' by Bernie Marsden. On the album closer, Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes sings lead vocals on his 1987 hit 'Too Much Ain't Enough Love'.

To challenge Joe and move him out of his comfort zone, a unique group of musicians was gathered including Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford (guitar), Blondie Chaplin (guitar), Anton Fig (drums and percussion), Arlan Schierbaum (keyboard), Michael Rhodes (bass), Carmine Rojas (bass), Jeff Bova and The Bovaland Brass, Pat Thrall (guitar), and Brad's son Harrison Whitford (guitar).

Brad Whitford, speaking from the studio in Vegas, said, "This is definitely more influenced by the stuff that the guys and musicians in this room love, early '60s English and American rock and blues. I guess we'll never get that out of our system and its fun to come in here and find our own path down that highway."

Bonamassa's last studio album 'Dust Bowl 'released in March 2011 charted at no.12 in the UK

Back in 1973, I became a dedicated user of the Decca Carbon Fiber Record Brush. The British Decca Brush was so wonderfully more effective than any of the wet-cloth-pad cleaners that smeared dirt around on one's records.

As often happens to truly superior products, the Decca Brush was mostly ignored - the overall record-cleaning market was dominated by cleaning pads attached to wood handles - not because they worked well, but because many hi-fi stores preferred to sell a cleaner that forced customers to come back to buy "special" fluid, again and again.

After creating AudioQuest in 1980, and with the wild success of the AQ 404 phono cartridge in 1982, and because I personally used a Carbon Fiber record brush every single day - AudioQuest began making the AQ Carbon Fiber Record Brush - now a 35-year old success story, and maybe the world's favorite way to respect and care for LPs.

Except - we eventually learned that the AQ Record Brush (and every other brand of carbon Fiber brush), doesn't have a good electrical path between the fibers and the handle, and that the print-protecting coating on the metal handle prevents a proper electrical connection to the user's hand. The user is the "ground" for static electricity, so having a good electrical contact from fibers-to-hand is a big deal!

In creating AQ's new Conductive Carbon Fiber Brush, AudioQuest created new tooling for every part of our new design. AQ's reborn Brush has ideal conductivity from the Carbon Fibers, through the internal parts of the brush, to the conductive Gold Contacts placed right where your fingers need them.

We also reinvestigated what is possible with Carbon Fibers, finally choosing for our new Brush a far greater quantity of new smaller fibers in order to more effectively sweep away micro-dirt, not just the less relevant visible dust.

To everyone who has an AQ Record Brush (thank you), or any brand of Carbon Fiber brush, and to everyone who hasn't yet discovered how simple it is to keep records clean:

We invite you to experience the reborn AudioQuest Conductive Record Brush.

    Your records will thank you!

The Times They Are A-Changin' on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram 45RPM Mono Vinyl 2LP from Mobile Fidelity

Stark, Austere, Acoustic Record Dylan's First With All-Original Material

Title Track, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, With God on Our Side Establish Dylan as Voice of Social Consciousness

The Bard Addresses Issues Such as Equality, Racism, and Poverty and Helps Ignite 1960s Political Movements

Strictly Limited to 3,000 Copies and Mastered from the Original Master Tapes, Mobile Fidelity's 45RPM Mono Vinyl Set Presents Dylan's Voice, Guitar, and Harmonica in Superlative Sound

Immediately distinguished by the direct mono sound and you're-either-with-us-or-against-us messages of the landmark title track, Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A Changin' sounds an unmistakable clarion call on behalf of progress and its unstoppable advancement. One of the Bard's trademark songs, it remains a timeless anthem with a clear sense of common purpose, a musical line in the sand that helped unite various social movements and multiple generations. The reverential 1964 record feeds off the opening tune and its unmistakable sentiments, marching forward to confront racism, poverty, injustice, and upheaval in a stark, immediate manner like few albums before or since.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's restored 45RPM analog version delivers the landscape-shifting music in reference-quality mono sound that transports you to Columbia's Studio A. Reflecting the austerity of the topics and Dylan's mood, the sonics are direct and unadorned-each word hitting with weight, each phrase lingering until it pulls you under, each storyline echoing as fact. The hollow body of Dylan's guitar, internal mechanisms of his harmonica, and graininess of his throat come across in full-on detail. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.

As the preferred mix at the time of the recording, the mono version presents Dylan as he and his producers originally intended. Since the separation of the stereo versions isn't as sharp, the mono edition places Dylan's vocals in the heart of the musical action and as one with the accompaniment. It paints listeners an incredibly accurate portrait of the attention-getting, concrete mass of sound that features no artificial panning and straight-ahead immersion into the music. This is how almost everyone first heard this timeless album-making the mono mix all the more historically valuable and truthful.

Marking a shift from the looseness and comedy that pepper the preceding The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, The Times They Are A-Changin' skirts any attempt at humor, sarcasm, or goofiness in favor of utmost seriousness and severity. Seemingly anticipating the dark events surrounding President Kennedy's assassination and the turmoil that followed, Dylan eliminates with conjecture and disguise. Akin to dispatches from the typewriter of literary icons John Steinbeck and William Faulkner, his songs give voices to the voiceless, challenge cultural precepts, upend traditional beliefs with rapier wit and truths, and underline tragedies swept under the rug.

In doing so, Dylan creates stinging protest music that rallies against unchecked authority, discrimination, brutality, and division. A testament to the power of great art, The Times They Are A-Changin' is a righteous assault on ignorance and agent for sweeping action, a necessary impetus for transformation and enlightenment. Via bold originals such as the nonfiction The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, assertive Restless Farewell, and semi-autobiographical North Country Blues, Dylan casts hardships, greed, and victimization in such relatable terms it's impossible to turn away and ignore their implications.

As correctly relayed by Dylan expert and cultural critic Greil Marcus, [The record] forever fixed Bob Dylan in the popular imagination: the protest singer, the young man 'able to see through metal' (again, from Chronicles), to see through the lie and find the truth, then to hammer the truth into words and send them out with a voice that would never break.

The Brio has a completely new case to house its improved circuits and parts. It now sits in a fully aluminium two-part case which boosts the Brio's heat sinking capabilities and improves on Rega's already solid build quality and reliability. The new Brio has a cleverly integrated headphone socket specially designed to avoid interference with the audio circuit when not in use and as you would expect, a very high specification moving magnet phono stage is built in as standard.

Throughout the design process the Brio has been meticulously improved in every aspect, from the quality of materials to the manufacturing process, to make this new Brio a step ahead in Rega's engineering and design for amplifiers.

    Brand new case design.

The sleek and minimal look was designed to bring elegance to Rega's classic style but still harks back to the swooped features hidden away in Rega's past amplifiers. Combining all these aspects makes this Brio case a unique standpoint amongst the competition.

    Re-designed circuit.

Key improvements have been made to the circuits. The PCB layout has been fully upgraded to handle higher specifications for all critical parts. A second raw power supply has been added to provide further isolation between output stage and the driver stage/line and phono amplifiers. This improves the isolation between high and low level signal stages of the amplifier. Higher specification MUSES operational amplifiers have been used in the line and phono amplifier.

    Headphone Socket.

For convenience, the Brio has the capability to drive standard hi-fi headphones from the internal amplifier. Adding a headphone socket was only possible by finding a way to reduce its impact on the main signal path so it doesn't disrupt the overall sound quality. We have paid special attention to the switch that deactivates the main speakers.

    Design technology

The Apollo-R is the result of many years of innovation, advanced software development and elegant engineering solutions researched by our highly skilled team of engineers and designers. It took the completion of two of our multi award winning products, the flagship Isis CD player and the Rega DAC to pave the way for a unique product we feel encapsulates everything the new Apollo-R should be.

    Design history

The original Apollo CD player launched in 2005. It was a huge success selling approaching 20,000 units worldwide. The Apollo was a unique player featuring Rega's own software and control system ensuring no other manufacturers player could sound the same. This key element is carried forward and improved into Apollo-R.

    Analogue & digital outputs

Development of the analogue, digital and control domains ensured direct improvements of both analogue and digital outputs making the Apollo-R a perfect partner for the Rega Brio-R amplifier and an ideal 'CD format' front-end for the Rega DAC. The Apollo-R internal circuitry has also been improved by tightening the PCB layout.

    Compact case design

Apollo-R is a top loading design housed in a custom compact aluminium case matching the Rega DAC and Brio-R amplifier.

Dedicated CD mini system remote control

A new dedicated CD remote handset is supplied as standard which also has the advantage of Rega amplifier functionality .

    Digital to analogue conversion

The DAC and the output amplifier of the Apollo-R have been enhanced using the Wolfson WM8742 digital to analogue converter, the same integrated circuit found in the Rega DAC.

    Power supplies

The 'digital' power supplies feeding the CD processor, optical block, laser diode amplifier and slicer have been enhanced. This is achieved by using the same high performance low noise power supplies found in the same location within the Isis CD player. This vastly improves the playability, error correction and the 'inner core' processing of the digital CD 'spinner' part of the Apollo-R.

    Output amplifier

The discrete output amplifier has been tweaked to reduce the overall THD from typically 0.005% to 0.0025%, whilst at the same time improving the overall sound quality of the output amplifier.

    User interface

We have improved the user interface control by using a dedicated display microprocessor, which eases the workload on the main control processors giving an improvement in the control code stability, usability and improved speed of initialisation of the disc being played which now matches that of the Isis CD player.
