Is This Love Bob Marley'
Kaya (Awaiting Repress)Features Original Artwork
Kaya continues what has become an unspoken tradition in the evolution of Bob Marley & the Wailers discography -- blending western sounds and motifs with the icons and traditions from the very core of Jamaican society. In fact, the very word kaya is synonymous with marijuana in Rastafarian culture. Likewise, the album Kaya could be easily construed as an open love letter or musical paean to the lifestyle that Marley so eagerly embraced and promoted.
Themes of commonality and unity pervade this release more so than previous albums. Likewise, the overt political stances that had become somewhat of a moniker for Marley and the Wailers are temporarily replaced by timeless compositions, such as the eternally optimistic Easy Skanking and Is This Love. Marley had not -- as some proclaimed -- gone soft, however. The light, at times practically giddy, rhythms on Satisfy My Soul contrast the darker brooding sonic and lyrical images on Running Away.
The most pressings issues Marley deals with concern ever-increasing spiritual consciousness. Throughout Kaya, humble thanks is offered to, as well as guidance sought from, Jah -- evidence that the spirituality that permeates the Wailers music is real and not lip service. Kaya could be considered the oasis before the political and personal eruptions that would inform and influence Marley and the Wailers next studio releases Survival and Uprising.1. Easy Skanking

Rastaman VibrationFeatures Original Artwork
For Bob Marley, 1975 was a triumphant year. The singer's Natty Dread album featured one of his strongest batches of original material (the first compiled after the departure of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer) and delivered Top 40 hit No Woman No Cry. The follow-up Live set, a document of Marley's appearance at London's Lyceum, found the singer conquering England as well. Upon completing the tour, Marley and his band returned to Jamaica, laying down the tracks for Rastaman Vibration (1976) at legendary studios run by Harry Johnson and Joe Gibbs.
At the mixing board for the sessions were Sylvan Morris and Errol Thompson, Jamaican engineers of the highest caliber. Though none of these cuts would show up on Legend, Marley's massively popular, posthumous best-of, some of the finest reality numbers would surface on the compilation's more militant equivalent, 1986's Rebel Music set. War, for one, remains one of the most stunning statements of the singer's career. Though it is essentially a straight reading of one of Haile Selassie's speeches, Marley phrases the text exquisitely to fit a musical setting, a quiet intensity lying just below the surface. Equally strong are the likes of Rat Race, Crazy Baldhead, and Want More.
These songs are tempered by buoyant, lighthearted material like Cry to Me, Night Shift, and Positive Vibration. Not quite as strong as some of the love songs Marley would score hits with on subsequent albums, Cry to Me still seems like an obvious choice for a single and remains underrated. Though record buyers may not have found any single song to be as strong on those terms as No Woman No Cry, Rastaman Vibration still reached the Top Ten in the United States.

CalifornisoulCALIFORNISOUL! That's exactly what it is. It's the missing soundtrack to a summertime drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 1971! Fabrizio Grossi explains. The album picks up right where the band left off on their well-received debut record, 'West of Flushing, South of Frisco'. Californisoul is all about great songs. Cry is a soul-searching, simmering piece of poetry and Lance Lopez preaches it in the most righteous way. I Am Done Missing You is another number that reaches down deep with a message that will resonate with both spurned lovers and those who have left their bad habits and way in the past. This Is Love could be the lovechild of Bob Marley and War with some stinging guitar action spread on top. Blues, rock, reggae, soul, it's all here in a joyous abundance and a celebration of life. That's the nature of Californisoul. Guests on the album include Billy Gibbons, Steve Lukather, Eric Gales and Walter Trout. Fabrizio adds, Lots of people have been saying to me 'why does Supersonic Blues Machine always bring guests around? You guys can stand your own ground', and there are three answers to that: 1) we're all super friends and we're having a blast, 2) most of them don't give lessons and for us this is the only way to learn their secret ways and 3) because of the inspiration and the challenge they bring to the table!LP 1

Kaya 40 (Pre-Order)The Marley Family, Island Records, and UMe will collectively proclaim the sun is shining in celebration of 40 years of Kaya, Bob Marley & The Wailers' historic March 1978 release. This most special anniversary edition will feature Stephen Ragga Marley's exciting and vibrant new Kaya 40 mixes of all ten tracks from the original album alongside its original mixes.
Recorded in London concurrently with the material that ultimately comprised 1977's Exodus - a record proclaimed by Time Magazine in 1999 to be the Best Album of the 20th Century - Kaya is the perfect sonic-sibling bookend that shares all the joy, spirit, and literal DNA of some of Marley's most groundbreaking material. Kaya contains a number of the most enduring, heartfelt songs in the entire Marley canon, including Is This Love, Easy Skanking, and Sun Is Shining.
Kaya was initially released just one month ahead of Bob Marley & The Wailers headlining the legendary One Love Peace Concert at The National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on April 22, 1978, an event that featured 16 of reggae's biggest acts. One Love Peace was heralded as Marley's triumphant return to his native soil, following his long exile in London after having fled the country as a result of a December 1976 assassination attempt at his Kingston homestead.
The album was recorded with the then-new configuration of The Wailers that comprised brothers Carlton and Aston Family Man Barrett on drums and bass, Tyrone Downie on keyboards, Alvin Seeco Patterson on percussion, and the I Threes - Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt - on backing vocals, along with newest member Julian (Junior) Marvin on guitar. Two of Kaya's songs had previously appeared in different arrangements on 1971's Soul Revolution - the title track, and Sun Is Shining.
Stephen's goal in mixing Kaya 40 was to create a balance that drew heavily from the original versions. Using Bob's vocals from demos from original Kaya sessions that were recorded at different tempos, Stephen synched the vocals with alternate takes and layered it over different instrumental arrangements. Stephen tried to keep the flavor as authentic as possible. To mix the album, he used a similar minimal approach, basing his version heavily off the classic analog concepts they used in the 1970s.
Bob Marley's artistic legacy forever endures, and the 40th anniversary edition of Kaya only serves to reinforce just how much we all share the shelter of this special music.LP 1

Catch A Fire (Awaiting Repress)
Catch a Fire was the major label debut for Bob Marley and the Wailers, and it was an international success upon its release in 1973. Although Bob Marley may have been the main voice, every member of the Wailers made valuable contributions and they were never more united in their vision and sound. All the songs were originals, and the instrumentation was minimalistic in order to bring out the passionate, often politically charged lyrics.
Much of the appeal of the album lies in its sincerity and sense of purpose -- these are streetwise yet disarmingly idealistic young men who look around themselves and believe they might help change the world through music. Marley sings about the current state of urban poverty (Concrete Jungle) and connects the present to past injustices (Slave Driver), but he is a not a one-trick pony. He is a versatile songwriter who also excels at singing love songs such as his classic Stir It Up.
Peter Tosh sings the lead vocal on two of his own compositions -- his powerful presence and immense talent hint that he would eventually leave for his own successful solo career. More than anything else, however, this marks the emergence of Bob Marley and the international debut of reggae music. Marley would continue to achieve great critical and commercial success during the 1970s, but Catch a Fire is one of the finest reggae albums ever. This album is essential for any music collection.1. Kigali Y' IzahabuThe Good Ones is a trio of Rwandan genocide survivors who play joyous, acoustic love songs written in the ancient local, Kinyarwanda street dialect of their nations capital, Kigali. Adrien Kazigira, Stany Hitimana and Jeanvier Havugimana recorded the songs collected on Kigali Y' Izahabu over the course of one summer evening on the back porch of a friends home. The primary obstacle to recording the group was that the musicians showed up with only one guitar for two players, and that guitar was missing two strings. Hitimana played bass on the 4-string, and a beat-up acoustic was located for the second guitarist, the sullen, primary songwriter, Kazigira, who interweaves intricate harmonies with co-singer Havugimana. In a style often referred to as worker songs from the streets, these simple, direct and plaintive love songs speak more to the healing power of peace than a thousand academic treatises or preachy goodwill ambassadors ever could.
Toiling at hard labor and subsisting on less than 50 cents a day in one of the ten poorest countries in the world, the hard-won spirit of these aging war-veterans shines through in The Good Ones yearning voices. Kazigira, 47, wrote 8 of the 12 songs found on the album and both plays and sings. He cites Bob Marley and reggae as his major influences. Hitimana, 47, on lead guitar and bass, sometimes teaches music in Kigali and finds inspiration in the music of Santana. And harmony singer Jeanvier, 38, who also plays guitar and sings lead on his own compositions, is most influenced by the Caribbean dance music called Zouk. The trio is punk embodied: barefoot, bandaged and jaundiced; armed with broken, mismatchedstringed, borrowed guitars; but singing angelically from amidst a landlocked country that the world abandoned.
Kigali Y' Izahabu is essentially an intimate field recording that even captures the howling and barking of dogs in the background, and it was recorded by two-time Grammy-nominated producer Ian Brennan, who has worked with artists such as Ramblin Jack Elliott, Flea, TV on the Radios Kyp Malone, Richard Thompson and many others.
Brennan traveled throughout Rwanda, hoping to document some of the countrys contemporary music, but up until his mission-affirming encounter with The Good Ones, he had been left wanting. As Brennan reports: They were standing in the dark, their eyes downcast and restless, and holding only one guitar between them. From 100-feet away, I knew instantly that there was something special about them, a feeling one is lucky to experience even once in a lifetime. By that point, Id already visited literally every recording-studio in the capital (Kigali) and surrounding areas over two weeks and listened to hundreds of artists, but to no avail. This meeting had been set up through a mutual friend and the instant the band opened their mouths to sing, it was as if the universe reached down to tap me on the shoulder and say, 'What these guys do is precious and rare. Don't fuck it up.'1. Sara

Count Me In (Awaiting Repress)For the SoCal-based band's fourth full-length independent release, Rebelution has aimed to instill a sense of community, choosing the phrase "Count Me In" as the album's title, representing each member's strong belief in a sense of community and collaboration. "Over the past ten years as an independent band," vocalist/guitarist Eric Rachmany explained, " we have felt a strong connection to the many people who have been incredibly supportive, and could not be more thankful to be a part of such a like-minded, positive and inspiring community."
Released through Rebelution's own label, 87 Music, in partnership with Easy Star Records. Count Me In was recorded between September and December of 2013 in Miami at Inner Cirlce's Circle House Studios and in Burbank, CA at Steakhouse Studios. To mix and master the new album, Rebelution was fortunate enough to work with Grammy Award winning Bernie Grundman Mastering and Legendary Reggae producer/sound engineer Errol Brown, Rebelution's touring engineer and a man who helped shape the Treasure Isle sound before working with Bob Marley & The Wailers at Tuff Gong Studios.
"From writing these songs to mixing and mastering the album, we were involved in every step We're becoming comfortable expressing ourselves, both in the studio and on stage. This album was truly fun to make, it's an honest expression of who we are" revealed Rachmany, and while much of the production was done by the band independently, Rebelution utilized the Reggae-Rock community whole-heartedly to create Count Me In.
The album features special guest appearances, one by dancehall singer Collie Buddz on the track "Hate To Be The One" and legendary Roots-Reggae vocalist Don Carlos on "Roots Reggae Music". Both collaborations are special pairings for the band as Buddz has toured with Rebelution in the recent past, and Carlos has been an enormous vocal influence on Rachmany.
The music and lyrical content varies through the album, providing positive inspiration, encouraging fans to create a pro-active and optimistic impact on society and life. Rachmany continues, "A lot of what we hear every day is that money measures success This new album is a reminder to spread love and positivity to the people around us, these are the true measures of success."
Originally formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004, Rebelution's strong do-it-yourself mentality, relentless touring and deep connection to their fan base via social media, has led them to being one of the best-selling reggae artists on the planet.
Since the 2007 release of Courage to Grow, the band's first full-length album, Rebelution's music has been praised for its crafty melodies, socially-conscious lyrics and savvy musicianship. In 2009, Rebelution continued to blaze their path delivering a second record, 2009's Bright Side of Life and then a triple disc release with Peace Of Mind in January of 2012; A record that debuted at #1 on Billboard's Reggae and Independent charts, and at #13 on the Top 200 Albums chart.1. Power Of PeaceLegacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, is pleased to announce the release of Power of Peace, a new studio album from Santana (Carlos Santana and Cindy Blackman Santana) and The Isley Brothers (Ronald and Ernie).
Recorded last year, Power of Peace is the fulfillment of a dream, a new musical studio collaboration connecting Santana and The Isleys on a mind-bending journey through some of the immortal soul, funk, blues, rock, jazz and pop songs that continue to inspire them.
About the Power of Peace, Carlos Santana observes, I feel a deep sense of gratitude, appreciation, and thankfulness. There is a spirit of creativity that came knocking and presented itself as a golden opportunity to do something with and for a supreme musician, who I consider to be the best in the world. Brother Ronnie Isley has been in the center of collective unity and harmony on the radio around the world since 1962 with 'Twist and Shout,' the song that the Beatles chose to invade America with. Like Michael Jackson, John Lennon, and Bob Marley, he's an iconic supreme of the highest order. Cindy and I feel very blessed to offer him this gift. From God, through us to you, for the world Mr. Ronnie Isley.
It was an absolute joy working on this album with Carlos!, exclaims Ronald Isley. I hope this record carries the spirit of hope, love, and peace to the world that it brought to me, my brother and Carlos!
Ernie Isley shares his brother's enthusiasm, saying, Doing this project with Carlos Santana was fun and illuminating. I hope all music lovers enjoy what we have done.
Led by the legendary Ronald Isley on lead vocals and the album's main producer/arranger Carlos Santana on lead guitar, rhythm guitar, percussion and background vocals, Power of Peace covers songs first made familiar by the Chambers Brothers (Are You Ready, Love, Peace, Happiness), Swamp Dogg (Total Destruction to Your Mind), Stevie Wonder (Higher Ground), Billie Holiday (God Bless the Child), Eddie Kendricks (Body Talk), Curtis Mayfield (Gypsy Woman), Muddy Waters/Willie Dixon (I Just Want to Make Love to You), Dionne Warwick/Jackie DeShannon (What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love), Marvin Gaye (Mercy Mercy Me - The Ecology), Leon Thomas (Let the Rain Fall on Me) and Sy Miller and Jill Jackson (Let There Be Peace on Earth).
Power of Peace premieres a new song, I Remember, written and sung by Cindy Blackman Santana. Cindy, who plays drums on the album, produced and arranged Higher Ground (along with her husband, Carlos). A family affair, Power of Peace features two Santanas--Carlos (guitar) and Cindy (drums)--and four Isleys: Ronald (vocals) and Ernie (rhythm guitar) and their respective spouses, Kandy Johnson Isley (Ron's wife, she sings background on God Bless the Child, Body Talk and Gypsy Woman) and Tracy Isley (Ernie's wife, she also sings background vocals on God Bless the Child).1.
