Features Alto Sax Performances By Ray Charles, And Milt Jackson's Only Recording On Guitar

Mastered From The Original Master Tapes By Bernie Grundman

Press On 180gram Audiophile-grade Vinyl At Pallas In Germany

The rare opportunity to hear Milt Jackson step out
from behind his familiar vibraphones to play piano,
and partner Ray Charles, in addition to manning the
88s, blow on the alto saxophone for two numbers,
shouldn't be missed. Particularly on this LP, which
portrays the 1957 collaboration within a huge, naturally
vibrant soundstage. Mastered from the original master
tapes and press on 180 gram vinyl, this edition lays
bare the relaxed, bluesy, often-boppish jazz on display
from these two giants. With stellar support, the two
headliners treat this affair as a backroom woodshedding
    session.

Al Green Gets Next To You (Pure Pleasure)

After the shaky start of Green Is Blues, Al Green and producer Willie Mitchell established their classic sound with Green's second album, Gets Next to You. The main difference is in the rhythm section. Abandoning the gritty syncopations of deep Southern soul, the Hi Rhythm Section plays it slow and seductive, working a sultry, steady pulse that Green exploits with his remarkable voice. Alternating between Sam Cooke's croon and Otis Redding's shout, Green develops his own distinctive style, and Gets Next To You only touches the surface of its depth. Although the album is filled with wonderful moments, few are as astonishing as Green and Mitchell's reinterpretation of the Temptations' I Can't Get Next to You, which turns the original inside out.

    Musicians:

    • Al Green (vocal)

    • Wayne Jackson (trumpet)

    • Ed Logan (tenor saxophone)

    • James Mitchell (bassoon)

    • Jack Hale (trombone)

    • Charles Hodges (keyboards)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Candy Girl

When Maurice Starr uncovered the talents of a Roxbury vocal group in the early '80s at a talent show at Dorchester's storied Strand Theater he saw the second coming of the Jackson 5. The boys didn't win the completion (they came in second) but they did win a deal with Starr & Streetwise records. Starr came up with the name New Edition (as in a new edition of the Jackson 5) and started recording with the boys the day after the talent show at the Strand. This group of kids (all under 15) had their first single "Candy Girl" shoot to #1 on the Billboard R&B Charts. This led them to their debut album, also titled Candy Girl, which had a lot of pop/early hip hop influences, yet still has a classic R&B feel. Other hits such as "Popcorn Love" and "Ohh Girl" and the slow burner of "Is This the End" make this album well rounded and no surprise as to why they went on to become one of the biggest R&B groups ever. The success of New Edition led to Bobby Brown's solo career, the success of Bell Biv DeVoe and served as a template for the "boy bands" that followed. But don't let that last line fool you, this album packs a bite with solid production and hooks for days.

BAD was the first album on which nearly all of the songs were written by Michael and also was the first album in history to produce FIVE consecutive #1 singles - a success that took 2 ½ decades for another artist to match.

BAD produced nine chart-topping singles, nine ground breaking short films and to date, the Bad album has generated over 45 Million units in sales. BAD was nominated for six Grammys and won two; the album earned Michael the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs. It was also the first time Michael would tour the world as a solo artist.

    Dangerous

With Dangerous, released in November 1991, Michael Jacksons career really sustained its high. The album entered the Billboard
200 album chart at number 1 and sold over 32 million copies worldwide in the space of 17 years. The RIAA certified Dangerous 7x
platinum for shipping 7 million copies in the United States. With hit singles such as Black Or White, In The Closet, Remember
The Timeh, Jamh, and Who Is Ith, and the unforgettable music videos that supported the tracks, Michael Jackson showed his true
strength by delivering yet another classic album, despite the fact that it was not produced by Quincy Jones (Off The Wall, Thriller
    and Bad).

Although Dangerous is definitely part of Jacksons quartet of classic albums (Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous) and shows off
a diverse range of styles, the multi-platinum number one album is sometimes overlooked. However, we present the album on 180

    Lil Son Jackson

Texan bluesman Melvin Lil Son Jackson was a contemporary of Lightnin Hopkins who originally recorded for the Gold Star and Imperial labels in the 40s and 50s. A car accident in the mid-50s led to Jackson giving up the music career and returning to work as a mechanic. Arhoolies Chris Strachwitz pulled him out of retirement in 1960, convincing him to record this classic and rare Texas blues LP. Reissued in all its original glory.

    Thriller (25th Anniversary)

Ranked 20/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Thriller is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Michael Jackson. It was released on November 30, 1982, by Epic Records as the follow-up to Jackson's critically and commercially successful 1979 album Off the Wall. Thriller explores similar genres to those of Off the Wall, including pop, R&B, rock, post-disco, and adult contemporary music.

Recording sessions took place between April and November 1982 at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California, with a production budget of $750,000, assisted by producer Quincy Jones. Of the nine tracks on the album, four of them were written by Jackson himself. Seven singles were released from the album, all of which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Three of the singles had music videos released. Baby Be Mine and The Lady in My Life were the only tracks that were not released as singles. In just over a year, Thriller became-and currently remains-the best-selling album of all time, with sales estimated by various sources as being between 65 and 110 million copies worldwide.

Like many other young recording artists of the late 1950s, especially those on major labels, Wanda Jackson was encouraged to straddle musical genres as a hedge against changing trends. She was an accomplished rockabilly singer, but Capitol Records must have worried about how long rockabilly was going to stay popular, so Wanda Jackson has the singer cutting tracks in several other styles -- most frequently country. Her rockabilly fans may have been surprised to hear her first full-length album, which leaned more toward country and also showed off her affinity for straight pop. True, she did cover Long Tall Sally and Money, Honey, and she did a particularly raucous version of Let's Have a Party (which surprisingly took off for the pop Top 40 two years after the album's release). But more typical of the sound of the album overall were her versions of Kitty Wells' Making Believe and Don Everly's Here We Are Again, traditional country material, and she even tried her hand at Patti Page's 1954 hit Let Me Go, Lover!, a pop ballad. Add it all up, and you had one versatile singer, able to sing convincingly anything that was thrown at her...

Featuring ''Fools In Love'', ''Is She Really Going Out With Him?'' And ''It's Different For Girls''

Joe Jackson's debut single, ''Is She Really Going Out With Him?'', was not an immediate hit; however, by the time his debut album Look Sharp! was released, the song had reached charts in the U.K. and U.S., earning him a gold record. For the follow-up, he produced the top 5 hit ''It's Different For Girls'', Joe received the highest musical accolade of the Netherlands, the Edison Award.

After two edgy new wave pop records, his next tracks included some reggae influences such as the tracks ''One to One'' and ''Mad At You'', while ''Jumpin' Jive'' - recorded with jazz musicians - was full of old jump blues and swing tunes.

The huge commercial success came with his crafted pop songs ''Steppin' Out'' and jazzy ''Breaking Us In Two'' climbing the charts worldwide. Joe Jackson produced even jazzier hits in 1984 such as ''Happy Ending'', (a duet with Elaine Caswell), ''Be My Number Two'' and ''You Can't Get What You Want''.

The album Big World (1986), a live album of entirely new material including ''Home Town'', was recorded during six concerts. It is not a regular live album though, the audience was asked to be quiet during the songs and the applause was edited out.

The pop song ''Nineteen Forever'' was part of a larger construction from the album Blaze Of Glory, designed to tell a semi-autobiographical story. In 1991 Joe Jackson decided to abandon pop once and for all in favor of more serious music. It spawned the track ''Stranger Than Fiction''.

    Dear Bo Jackson

Serpents and Snakes is proud to announce the release of The Weeks full-length label debut, Dear Bo Jackson, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to their critically-praised EP, Gutter Gaunt Gangster.

The album was recorded with Grammy Award-nominated producer / engineer Paul Moak at his Nashville studio, The Smoakstack. Drawing inspiration from such iconic works as The Band's Music From The Big Pink, The Weeks enriched their well-seasoned sonic stew with the classic flavors of soul, R&B, funk, and heavy boogie to create their own unique take on contemporary Southern rock. Big brass, lush strings, and twangy pedal steel have been fused into the bands trademark sludge-pop sound, with Sam Williams' greasy guitars, the highly charged engine room of bassist Damien Bone and drummer Cain Barnes now officially joined by master keyboardist Alex Admiral Collier.

Throughout the album, songs like Brother In The Night and the exuberant title track see Cyle Barnes rending his throat raw as he tells dramatic and truthful tales of modern Southern lives, full of hope despite often punishing circumstances.
Dear Bo Jackson shows The Weeks to be not unlike the legendary athlete of the albums title: indisputable all-stars, capable of just about anything.

Chronicling the three concerts Joe Jackson gave German television between 1980 and 1983, this captures several different phases in the ever-shifting Jackson's career, including the punky beginning, the ska-inflected Beat Crazy, and the sophisticated pop of Night and Day, and throughout Jackson and his band are in top form.

    I Don't Want To Cry

    Pressed at R.T.I.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, Chuck Jackson witnessed first-hand the rise of the city's vibrant doo wop scene. Joining local heroes the Del Vikings, his smooth, commanding voice took the lead on their 1957 single "Willette." Going solo in 1959, Jackson was spotted by producer/Wand Records A&R man Luther Dixon while opening for Jackie Wilson at the Apollo Theater. With Dixon, Jackson co-wrote his first hit, "I Don't Want to Cry." The track featured a lavish band arrangement, a style Dixon had perfected during his sessions with the Shirelles. Together, Jackson and Dixon carefully crafted I Don't Want to Cry! (1961), Jackson's debut LP. A concept album dedicated to songs about crying, it finds Jackson covering mentor Wilson ("Lonely Teardrops") as well as an early Burt Bacharach-Hal David composition ("I Wake Up Crying"). Audibly in command, Jackson's vocals blend seamlessly with Dixon's arrangements, resulting in an astonishingly accomplished album. Working from the original analog reels, Sundazed has mastered this landmark LP in the rare true stereo mix. Pressed at R.T.I. on lush 180 gram vinyl, every string swell, every horn phrase and, most importantly, every vocal performance comes through in "you are there" clarity. No collection is complete without this Brill Building classic!

    Mono Remaster

Vibraphonist Milt Jackson and tenor saxophonist John Coltrane make for a surprisingly complementary team on this 1959 studio session, their only joint recording. With fine backup by pianist Hank Jones, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Connie Kay, Bags and Trane stretch out on two of Jackson's originals (including The Late Late Blues) and three standards: a romping Three Little Words, The Night We Called It a Day, and the rapid Be-Bop.

In the original liner notes for Chuck Jackson on Tour (1964), Bob King describes Jackson "a man with pent up talent." Consequently, this LP is the sound of that talent erupting all over the stage of the famed Apollo Theater, the same venue where Jackson had been discovered a few years earlier. Jackson leads the airtight band through raw, sweat-soaked versions of his hits "I Wake Up Crying" and "Any Day Now," giving the audience their money's worth and more. He also includes well-chosen covers, like Marvin Gaye's "Stubborn Kind of Fellow," Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" and the King of the Apollo himself, James Brown's "Please Please Please." In a true testament to his ability, he makes each of these songs his own, infusing every line with deep emotion. If you only know him from his smoothly-orchestrated studio recordings, Chuck Jackson on Tour will give you an entirely new take on this legendary performer. Working from the original Wand analog reels, Sundazed has mastered this explosive album in the rare true stereo mix for an immersive listening experience. Michael Jackson's tenth and final studio album Invincible was released in 2001, six years after the double album HIStory, and the first featuring all new tracks since 1991's Dangerous. The King of Pop pulled out all the stops here enlisting several of the era's most successful producers including Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley and R. Kelly as well as guest appearances by Notorious B.I.G., Brandy and Carlos Santana. It may have not been quite the comeback Jackson was looking for when it came to his own miraculous standards, but it does prove that he could still produce pop music like no other.

    Radio Cinematic

Jonathan Jackson is a five-time Daytime EMMY Award-winning actor for his role in General Hospital, and currently stars in the ABC primetime drama Nashville. Jonathan is also known for his roles in film, including Columbia's Deep End of the Ocean Disney's Tuck Everlasting and Warner Bros. Insomnia.

The foundations of Jonathan Jackson and his band Enation started with brothers Jonathan and Richard Jackson. Having been raised in Battle Ground, WA they moved to Hollywood, CA to pursue careers as actors at the ripe ages of 10 and 13. Music was in their blood, as their father Ricky Lee Jackson was a Nashville recording country music artist. Jonathan picked up the guitar and began writing songs and Richard had been playing drums since elementary school. Sibling rivalry turned into a synergy of complementary talent as the brothers began to play music together over the ensuing years, culminating in the partnership that is currently Enation along with longtime friend bass player Daniel Sweatt. The band spent the past year recording Radio Cinematic in Nashville, TN. Richard is also an actor who has appeared in film and television, most recently in Grimm.
