I Blame YouBrooklyn, NY's Obits is made up of Rick Froberg, Sohrab Habibion, Greg Simpson, and Scott Gursky. They released their first single, One Cross Apiece b/w Put It in Writing in December of '08 on their own Stint Records label and did some touring with the Constantines and The Night Marchers. Produced by G. Sanoff, E. Janney and Obits, I Blame You is the band's debut full-length album.
We're not into innovation as a band, says Froberg, who's already done his fair share of innovating with Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes. I think innovation is overrated and an overestimated quality. Anything that's going to be original is going to happen without your control. Things that make your band sound like you, are things you wouldn't be able to change anyway. We just go ahead and play the stuff we like, and we don't worry about originality per se, because that takes care of itself.1. Widow of My Dreams

Like WolvesRochester, NY's LIKE WOLVES have been slugging it out for three years now. After 2 self-released 7s, as well as a split 7 with Hex labelmates OAK AND BONE (on Barbarossa Records), they are ready to drop their debut LP. This album is 9 slices of raw and raging punk, full of wild, nervous energy, and more than a few nods to the angular garage-y sounds of groups like Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu. A group of live wires coming unhinged, but still crafty and calculated in their approach. Recorded live at Moresound Studio in Syracuse, NY and in time for a national tour to present the new jams.Golden Year

With LovePrize Country click together perfectly. For the last 3 years it's if the only time they're not on tour is to write songs and record them. Having dished out a full length, a few EPs, and a bunch of splits they took some time to hone the songs that would comprise With Love, their second full length and debut for Hex Records. These four road dogs create music that is rooted in early 90's post-hardcore dynamics of sound, texture, and a good deal of heaviness that brings to mind Quicksand, Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, as well as later-era Snapcase and then cranks the volume to obscene levels so as to destroy audiences right after they knock their socks off with their energy and musicianship. Prize Country will be tour throughout the Fall, covering these United States before embarking on a European tour in the Winter. After that, who knows? More than likely either back on the road or writing more songs in their never-ending quest for the perfect riff.1. From the Gutter

Bloodmines (Out Of Stock)Vancouver's BAPTISTS recently completed work on their second full-length album, the follow-up to their 2013 debut Bushcraft. Entitled Bloodmines, the new album (like the debut) was recorded at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts with with Kurt Ballou.
Like its predecessor, Bloodmines is a fast, exhilarating album of rage, oozing with genuine raw emotion and punk rock fury. Shards of feedback make way for fast powerful riffs and savage vocals, whilst explosive drumming pumps blood around the band's beating heart. On album tracks like Vistas, Calling and the title track, Bloodmines, the pace changes, revealing powerful, almost anthemic, jagged noise rock akin to influential San Diego post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu and similar acts which go beyond the two minute mark. Discordant guitar melodies and abrasive vocal passages are elongated, still volatile but perhaps allowing for further contemplation of the band's underlying message.
BAPTISTS continually find new ways to express their rage and with Bloodmines they have created a memorable and commanding album.1. Chamber

Weird Sister (Out Of Stock)We're excited to announce the release of the debut album by thrilling Cardiff-based noisepop five-piece Joanna Gruesome. Brimming with irresistible pop melodies and spiked with dissonant fuzzy jangle, their songs are shot through with loud discordant feedback and super-fast, hardcore punk drumbeats. Kicking it against sexism and homophobia, nothing is off-limits, drawing inspiration from DIY scenes such as Riot Grrrl/noisepop/C86/K Records as well as post hardcore like Drive Like Jehu/Converge and the art rock of The Velvet Underground, Swirlies and My Bloody Valentine.
Joanna Gruesome comprise Alanna on vocals, Owen on guitar, Max on bass, George on guitar and Dave on drums. Most of the album was written during a month long stay in a seedy west Brighton hotel called The Hell House and recorded under the guidance of producer MJ of the much lauded Hookworms. Awash with nods to mental illness and the dark recesses of the mind, the record is littered with references to the devil or zombies and allusions to comic books.
Take first single "Secret Surprise," in which mental illness takes a physical form and is fought using razor blades. Or Anti-Parent Cowboy Killers, which is about stealing a scooter and driving it into the ocean when you should be in school LEARNING. Or Sugarcrush, about spending a summer burning knitwear. Slotting in with contemporaries like Swearin' and Speedy Ortiz, Joanna Gruesome offer a staggeringly diverse album, unexpectedly quiet and surprisingly loud.
"Abrasion, anger, attitude. One guitarist is in the audience, but this isn't too much of a stretch. There are slower parts where the musicians take a second to breath. There are noisier bits where the musicians take a second to reflect. There are thumpy bits where the musicians take a second to dance and enjoy themselves. Everyone's smiling. Everyone's hugging themselves. What a glorious mess of a noise to be a part of. What a glorious sense of community." - Everett True, Collapse Board
