    Bound By The Blues

Sonny Landreth's new album Bound By The Blues marks a return to the slide
guitarist's musical roots. It presents a bold, big-sounding collection of
recordings that climb to stratospheric heights of jazz informed improvisation,
the best of classic rock, and inevitably remain deeply attached to the elemental
emotional and compositional structures that are at the blues' historic core.
Bound By The Blues is a powerful tribute to the durability and flexibility of the
genre, and to his own creative vision. Sonny name-checks Jimi Hendrix, Muddy
Waters and some of Landreth's other musical heroes along the way. He also
pays homage to fellow slide guitarist Johnny Winter, with the instrumental
"Firebird Blues." He recreates some amazing covers "Walkin' Blues" by Robert
Johnson, and "Dust My Broom" by Elmore James.

Landreth continues to develop his vision and his musical voice, growing
increasingly original and distinctively diverse sounds expanding from blues,
zydeco, folk, country and jazz, making bound by the blues one of his most
    ambitious albums to date

    Valleys Of Neptune

Jimi Hendrix Valleys Of Neptune on Audiophile-Quality 180g 2LP Set!

12 Previously Unreleased, Fully Realized Jimi Hendrix Studio Recordings Available for the First Time Ever!

Cut from the Analog Masters by Legendary Engineer George Marino at Sterling Sound and Pressed on 180-gram Vinyl at RTI!

The Hendrix Family is Committed to Bringing you the Best Sound Quality Possible: Do Not Miss This Collection!

Set Joins Exquisitely Remastered Versions of Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love, Electric Ladyland, and First Rays of the New Rising Sun!

The already insurmountable legacy of the greatest, most advanced rock guitarist to ever play a note just got better. Valleys Of Neptune, a newly curated album of 12 fully realized Jimi Hendrix studio recordings, contains more than 60 minutes of music never commercially available on any Hendrix album. Centered around tracks recorded during a pivotal and turbulent four-month period in 1969, Valleys Of Neptune unveils the original Jimi Hendrix Experience's final studio recordings for the very first time. Just as importantly, no expense has been spared in making sure this monumental release sounds as good as humanly possible. Mastered from the original analog tapes, cut by legendary engineer George Marino on upgraded equipment at Sterling Sound, and pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, this 2LP set is a sonic knockout on par with the very best audiophile recordings. It's no wonder that this release spearheads Legacy Recordings' unprecented 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project of reissues and new releases from the greatest guitar player in history. Albums don't get more essential than this.

Valleys Of Neptune provides a fundamental, compelling, and largely unseen view of what Jimi Hendrix was doing in the critical period between the release of Electric Ladyland in October of 1968 and the 1970 opening of his own Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village. The state-of-the-art facility is also where he would begin his final project, the ambitious double album First Rays of the New Rising Sun.

Here, the group lays down the foundation for its follow-up to Electric Ladyland, alongside the guitar superhero's first sessions with bassist Billy Cox, an army buddy Hendrix had recruited into his new ensemble. As such, Valleys Of Neptune offers more than an hour of previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix music, newly mixed for this historic release by Hendrix's longtime engineer Eddie Kramer, who first worked with the guitarist on 1967's Are You Experienced? Valleys Of Neptune is produced by Janie Hendrix, John McDermott (who contributes detailed liner notes), and Kramer. The Valleys Of Neptune single has long been one of the most sought-after of Hendrix's recordings. But it's not the only reason to grab this set.

Other highlights encompass blazing studio covers of Elmore James' Bleeding Heart and Cream's Sunshine of Your Love, as well as premier performances of original Hendrix compositions like Ships Passing Through The Night, Lullaby For The Summer, and the original recording of the Jimi Hendrix Experience rendition of Hear My Train A Comin'. Also included is Mr. Bad Luck, a Jimi Hendrix Experience track, produced by Chas Chandler during the 1967 Axis: Bold as Love sessions.

    Blues

Originally released in 1994, the Jimi Hendrix Blues album features 11 blues performances recorded by Jimi between 1966 and 1970 showcasing the guitarist's mastery of the 12-bar form. This double-LP audiophile edition of Blues is arguably the best packaged, richest sounding, most coherent post-mortem release from the Hendrix archives.

Framed by his 1967 acoustic 12-string rendition of "Hear My Train 'A Comin'" and a 1970 Trio performance of the same song, these 11 rough and ready tracks illustrate Hendrix's deep spiritual connections to his blues roots and his daring experimental take on the shape of future blues to come. And they've never sounded so vital, necessary or dynamic!

This 2LP version will forever stand as the definitive-sounding, high-performance edition of this historic collection.

    Rhythm & Blues

Double LP Features Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Gary Clark, Jr., Beth Hart And Aerosmith Members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry And Brad Whitford!

Six-time Grammy Award winner and 2012 Kennedy Center Honoree Buddy Guy releases his studio album, Rhythm & Blues, on RCA Records. The follow-up to his 2010 Grammy Award winning album Living Proof, this double-disc masterpiece features first time studio collaborations with A-list artists Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Gary Clark, Jr., Beth Hart and Aerosmith members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.

Produced by Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter and longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge (Skin Deep, Living Proof), Rhythm & Blues captures the 76 year-young Guy at the peak of his creativity. Replete with heartfelt vocals, straightforward lyrics and mesmerizing guitar licks, Rhythm & Blues not only exemplifies how blues continues to be the foundation of all genres of today's music, it also illustrates why Guy has been influential in the careers of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more.

The Rhythm disc includes rhythm and blues-style blues with deep grooves, such as the Junior Wells' 1960 hit "Messin With The Kid" featuring Kid Rock, the touching "One Day Away" with Keith Urban, and "What You're Gonna Do About Me," a rousing duet with Beth Hart. Guy rounds out the disc with "Best In Town," "Whiskey Ghost," Guitar Slim's "Well I Done Got Over It" and more.

The Blues disc taps into the genre's rich history with "Meet Me In Chicago," "I Could Die Happy," "Never Gonna Change" and "All That Makes Me Happy Is The Blues." Aerosmith's Tyler, Perry and Whitford contribute to the musical lesson with "Evil Twin" while Gary Clark, Jr. joins Guy on "Blues Don't Care."

In a career that spans nearly 50 years with over 50 albums released, the incomparable Buddy Guy recently added the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors and NARM Chairman's Award for Sustained Creative Achievement to his long list of achievements. Guy is the recipient of 30 awards and accolades, including 6 Grammy Awards, 28 Blues Music Awards (formerly W. C. Handy Awards), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the first annual Great Performer of Illinois Award, a Billboard Music Awards' Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, the Presidential National Medal of Arts, in addition to being listed as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stone.

    Alabama Blues (Pure Pleasure)

    J. B. Lenoir was one of the outstanding blues artists of all times. His album Alabama Blues is the first recorded document by any blues poet, who included and incorporated very critically the social and political situation of black people living in the U.S.A. in the year of 1965. Thus a musical document was created long before the black communities in the United States became proud of their heritage - their roots. Jimi Hendrix was the first artist who acknowledged that J. B. Lenoir's work, preserved in this album, was a major part of his self-liberation and of finding his own identity. Though the Library of Congress has placed this album in its achives as an important part of American Musical History - comparable to Duke Ellington's Black, Brown and Beige Suite for example - it was never released in the United States, and even in Europe its distribution was poor. Because of this it has become one of the most searched-for collectors' items in music today. Pure Pleasure Records is happy and proud to release this masterpiece of music again.

    Musicians:

    • J. B. Lenoir (vocal, guitar)

    • Willie Dixon (vocal)

    • Freddie Below (drums)

Recording: May 1965 in Chicago, Ill.

    Production: Horst Lippmann

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Buddy Guy is arguably the most distinctive, electrifying guitarist in Blues history. On a good night, there is no player in the world who can match him. But for all of Guy's talent, unfortunately there are few studio recordings that document his genius. Producers have always wanted him either to sound old-fashioned (i.e., the '50s Chess Chicago Blues sound) or too modern (i.e., some abberation of Jimi or Clapton).

Buddy was only produced properly one time: and the result is this album. After several mediocre albums in the '60s and '70s, someone finally let Buddy play in the studio with the creative, reckless abandon that, when playing live, has ignited every building in which he has ever played. This IS Buddy Guy!

    Musicians:

    • Buddy Guy (guitar, vocal)

    • Phil Guy (guitar)

    • J. Williams (bass)

    • Ray Allison (drums)

Recording: October 1979 at Condorcet Studio, Toulouse (France) by Francois Porterie

    Production: Didier Tricard

Son Little, the singer and songwriter born Aaron Livingston, is the easygoing musical alchemist of our time. He is a conjurer, and much like those of his heroes Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix, his songs are deconstructions of the diaspora of American R&B. Deftly he weaves different eras of the sound-blues, soul, gospel, rock and roll-through his own unique vision, never forced, always smooth, each note a tributary on the flowing river of rhythm and blues. And now, with his second full-length album, New Magic, he has delivered a profound statement, a cohesive creation that captures the diverse spirit of American music in a fresh and modern way.

The song that serves as the album's true centerpiece is Blue Magic, a Philly Soul inspired number deconstructed almost like a rap song or the best of production savants like J Dilla or Madlib, complete with chiming glockenspiel bells and old school female backing vocals. The song has the appeal of an instant classic. On the heels of his 2015 self-titled debut and the 5-song EP, Songs I Forgot, that came before it, Son Little found his reach steadily growing. His song Lay Down had been streamed over seven million times, he had toured the world with artists as diverse as Leon Bridges, Kelis, Mumford & Sons, Portual. The Man and Shakey Graves in addition to his own headlining runs, and also became a Grammy Award winning producer, earning a 2016 Best Roots Performance award for his work on Mavis Staples.

Randy Wolfe, better known as Randy California, was a founding member of psychedelic 60s rockers Spirit. As a teenager he played guitar in Jimi Hendrix's band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. Hendrix himself gave Randy the stage name to differentiate him from band mate Randy Palmer. 15-year-old California left the Blue Flames when they embarked on a European tour and his parents refused to let him go. Released in 1972, Kapt. Kopter and the (Fabulous) Twirly Birds is California's first solo record. Heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, this album is dense and way ahead of its time.

    Manassas

Between 1970 and 1972, Stephen Stills was busy playing with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and working on a series of solo albums. In addition to all this activity he led the super group that appears on this stunning release. Manassas finds Stills and company (Chris Hillman, Dallas Taylor and Al Perkins among others) at the intersection of rock, folk, country and blues. Distinctive styles are noticeable song by song, yet it is the strength and credibility of the mixture that makes Manassas such a great overall experience. The first fourth of the album focuses on '60s rock with Afro-Cuban overtones, followed by a batch of country and bluegrass-oriented material. The folk-rock track It Doesn't Matter kicks off the third section and the final section wraps the set up with the rootsy groove of Blues Man, a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Manassas is a rich and varied collection that is as sophisticated and complex as it is earthy and easy to listen to.

Led Zeppelin had a fully formed, distinctive sound from the outset, as their eponymous debut illustrates. Taking the heavy, distorted electric blues of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Cream to an extreme, Zeppelin created a majestic, powerful brand of guitar rock constructed around simple, memorable riffs and lumbering rhythms. But the key to the group's attack was subtlety: it wasn't just an onslaught of guitar noise, it was shaded and textured, filled with alternating dynamics and tempos. As Led Zeppelin proves, the group was capable of such multi-layered music from the start. Although the extended psychedelic blues of Dazed and Confused, You Shook Me, and I Can't Quit You Baby often gather the most attention, the remainder of the album is a better indication of what would come later. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You shifts from folky verses to pummeling choruses; Good Times Bad Times and How Many More Times have groovy, bluesy shuffles; Your Time Is Gonna Come is an anthemic hard rocker; Black Mountain Side is pure English folk; and Communication Breakdown is a frenzied rocker with a nearly punkish attack. Although the album isn't as varied as some of their later efforts, it nevertheless marked a significant turning point in the evolution of hard rock and heavy metal.

    50

After five decades of recording and touring, veteran British songwriter and guitar sage Michael Chapman has finally made what he calls his "American record," and the aptly titled 50 now stands as his late career masterwork, a moving legacy statement by a legend. Backed by a collaborative group of friends and acolytes-Steve Gunn (who also produced), Nathan Bowles (Pelt), James Elkington (Jeff Tweedy), Jason Meagher (No-Neck Blues Band), Jimi SeiTang (Rhyton), and fellow UK songwriting luminary Bridget St John-Chapman tears into both bold renderings of new songs and radical reinterpretations of material from his revered catalog, the crack band adeptly scaling the same rarefied sonic heights of classic Harvest albums like Fully Qualified Survivor, guided by a true survivor's instinct, wit, and wisdom. The result is a sublime chiaroscuro self-portrait, more shadow than light, as an invigorated Chapman wrestles with weighty themes of travel, memory, mortality, and redemption, his world-weary whispers assuming the incandescent power of prophecy. Deluxe package includes tip-on jacket, printed inner sleeve, and lyrics.

    The Tel-Star Sessions

Limited-Edition White Vinyl With Special Art

    Newly Mixed & Mastered

The Mule's previously unreleased original recordings from 1994 are coming!

In early summer of 1994, while on break from Allman Brothers work, the original Mule line-up of Warren Haynes, Allen Woody, and Matt Abts assembled at Tel-Star Studios outside Sarasota, Florida, to lay down on tape their vision to exhume the rock power trio - their influences ranging from Cream and Jimi Hendrix Experience to Blue Cheer and ZZ Top.

Says Warren, "Allen Woody had plenty of ideas in that department -- starting with simultaneously bringing back the 'rock bass' sound. Along with our discussions about the 'power trio' being missing from the current musical landscape were the discussions of how the sound of the bass guitar had gotten progressively 'cleaner' since the '80s (or late '70s), and how that affected the overall feeling of the music. So, when we went in to the studio to do our first recording sessions, part of our mission was to capture an old familiar sound as well."

What resulted from those sessions was the key soundscape of the band's rawness and excitement that Mule fans will love: straight-ahead rock- and blues-based song structures, explorative but tight and tough as a clenched fist. And while their search for that old familiar sound bore great creative fruit, these recordings also reflect the times in which they were recorded: there are interesting Soundgarden- and Alice In Chains-like musical references to grunge and the alternative rock sound that emerged from the early and mid-'90s.

One of the most stunning debuts in rock history, and one of the definitive albums of the psychedelic era. On Are You Experienced?, Jimi Hendrix synthesized various elements of the cutting edge of 1967 rock into music that sounded both futuristic and rooted in the best traditions of rock, blues, pop, and soul. It was his mind-boggling guitar work, of course, that got most of the ink, building upon the experiments of British innovators like Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend to chart new sonic territories in feedback, distortion, and sheer volume. It wouldn't have meant much, however, without his excellent material, whether psychedelic frenzy (Foxey Lady, Manic Depression, Purple Haze), instrumental freak-out jams (Third Stone from the Sun), blues (Hey Joe), or tender, poetic compositions (The Wind Cries Mary) that demonstrated the breadth of his songwriting talents. Not to be underestimated were the contributions of drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding, who gave the music a rhythmic pulse that fused parts of rock and improvised jazz. Many of these songs are among Hendrix's very finest; it may be true that he would continue to develop at a rapid pace throughout the rest of his brief career, but he would never surpass his first LP in terms of consistently high quality.

    Band of Gypsies

Following the breakup of the Experience, Jimi Hendrix took a sabbatical in Woodstock, New York, hooked up with bassist Billy Cox and began jamming with a wide variety of musicians, including R&B drummer Buddy Miles. He had become self-conscious about his image as a showman and rocker and about the limitations of thrashing through the same repertoire night after night. Band Of Gypsys was Hendrix's attempt to redefine himself, and in a way heralded his return to the ethos of the blues and R&B, a return assisted by a powerhouse, groove-oriented rhythm section. Band Of Gypsys was certainly different from Hendrix's work with the Experience, but rivals it in terms of scope, vision and beauty.

    Rainbow Bridge (Soundtrack)

Remastered By Bernie Grundman From The Original Analog Masters

Rainbow Bridge is being reissued on vinyl, reintroduced with original album art and track orders and remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog masters.

Rainbow Bridge was compiled and mixed by Eddie Kramer and Mitch Mitchell in 1971, with the help of Electric Lady Studios engineer John Jansen. Most of the tracks were recorded in 1969 and 1970, during the same sessions that spawned The Cry Of Love. Rainbow Bridge is often misconstrued as being an entirely live album, being that the film of the same name features excerpts of a live Jimi Hendrix performance in Maui. However, Hendrix had no role in the creation of the rambling, unfocused 1971 film which was directed by Chuck Wein. The film was not a Hendrix project in any way but instead an independent vision of his manager Michael Jeffery. After Hendrix's death in September 1970, Jeffery scrapped Hendrix's original vision of a double studio album titled First Rays Of The New Rising Sun and called for Kramer, Mitchell and Jansen to compile two posthumous albums-including one that would that would serve as a soundtrack for the Rainbow Bridge film.

Mitchell, Kramer and Jansen drew upon Hendrix's rich trove of studio recordings that the guitarist had been developing at Electric Lady Studios. Songs such as ''Dolly Dagger'' and ''Room Full Of Mirrors'' were bright examples of Hendrix's new creative direction. Other standouts on the album included a studio rendition of ''Star Spangled Banner'' as well as the majestic ''Hey Baby (New Rising Sun).'' The one live track on the album, an extraordinary rendition of Hendrix's original blues composition ''Hear My Train A Comin''' is taken from a performance at Berkeley Community Theatre in May of 1970, and not in the film at all. Buddy Miles and Noel Redding both appear on one track each, and the Ronettes provide backing vocals on ''Earth Blues.''

After Hendrix's death in September 1970, First Rays Of The New Rising Sun was scrapped and instead two posthumous albums were created from the sessions, including one that would serve as a soundtrack for the Rainbow Bridge film.

    Axis: Bold As Love

Ranked 82/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Very few albums radically change the musical and cultural landscape, altering our perceptions by way of a mad combination of forward-looking performance, liberating lyrical narratives, spiritual overtones, and unimaginable sounds. Jimi Hendrix's sophomore Axis: Bold As Love is one of those records, a timeless and prophetic set that still seems as if it comes to us from the future. Unrelentingly ambitious, deeply mythical, and profoundly virtuosic, the stupendous 1967 collection dives into a pool of lustful psychedelia, earthy blues, cosmic soul, and unhinged rock. Along with jazz-schooled drummer Mitch Mitchell and melodic bassist Noel Redding, Hendrix establishes a new musical language, a foundation on which fellow guitar giants such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, and Prince would build. Ranked by Rolling Stone as the 82nd greatest album ever released, and leagues ahead of its time, Axis: Bold As Love is an absolute must-have for every music lover. Particularly now that it's finally been afforded the sonic treatment it's always deserved.

Mastered from the original two-track mix-down analog master tapes, cut by legendary engineer George Marino on upgraded equipment at Sterling Sound, and pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, this LP is a sonic knockout on par with the very best audiophile recordings. With all apologies to previous editions from Classic and Universal, this pressing blows away any competition. It's no wonder that this release spearheads Legacy Recordings' unprecented 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project of reissues and new releases from the greatest guitar player in history.

Featuring seminal classics such as Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing, and Castles Made Of Sand, Axis: Bold As Love stands as one of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's monumental moments, a tapestry scorched with color, sewn together with erotic threads, and varnished with rich personality. Do not miss this seminal pressing of a most seminal recording.
