    Live At Keystone

Recorded live on July 10 and 11, 1973, at the Keystone club in Berkeley, California, this recording beautifully captures the magical musical friendship of keyboardist Merl Saunders and guitarist Jerry Garcia. The sterling band featured Saunders on keyboards; Garcia, guitar and vocals; John Kahn, bass; and Bill Vitt, drums. Virtuoso David Grisman added mandolin to Bob Dylan's Positively 4th Street. The mix of songs ranged from Saunders originals to covers of songs by Jimmy Cliff, Junior Parker, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Rodgers & Hart, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Arthur Big Boy Crudup, Lightnin' Hopkins, Don Nix and Dan Penn and Dylan.

With 15 albums under his belt, Sonny Rollins was poised to make a bold statement with 1958's Freedom Suite. Sporting a Mohawk haircut on the inside
cover, Rollins was driven by the political climate at the time, acknowledging and questioning his place in society as an African American in the midst of the
Civil Rights Movement. In the nearly 20-minute long title track, comprised of five movements, Rollins and his longtime collaborators - drummer Max
Roach and bassist Oscar Pettiford - were able to dig deep and explore the melodic structure. Side B is comprised of four Broadway showtunes and
standards, which Rollins, Roach and Pettiford make their own. An inspired and vibrant boundary-pushing album.

    Englewood Cliffs Sessions

In legendary Jazz producer Rudy Van Gelder's studio's Englewood Cliff Sessions came to life; a Souljazz album by Dutch Jazz organist Rob Mostert.

It's a truly buzzing album, too; Influenced by great artists such as Jimmy Smith, Jimy McCriff, J.S. Bach, en Herbie Hancock and inspired by his surroundings, Rob recorded an album with Rudy that howls, moans, and swings like no other.

All the great music that was recorded there for labels such as Blue Note, Verve! and CTI seeped out of the walls and immersed Rob in a Smooth jazz esthetic.
Beautiful Hammond Souljazz, now also available on vinyl!

    The Interrupters (Awaiting Repress)

The Interrupters are the newest signing to Tim
Armstrong's Hellcat label, releasing their debut self-titled album this August. Fronted by
    singer-songwriter Aimee Allen, the Los-Angeles
based ska band began working with Armstrong on
his popular Tim Timebomb series of singles. (Before that, Allen sang background vocals on the
    Armstrong-produced Grammy-winning Jimmy Cliff
album Rebirth). Steeped in ska, reggae, and punk,
Allen and the Interrupters bring a sly sense of

    Prisoner In Disguise

After the success of Heart Like A Wheel, Linda Ronstadt released Prisoner In Disguise in 1975, which further fortified her standing as one of America's most popular interpretive singers. The album yielded two strong singles, her beautiful renditions of the Motown classics Heat Wave and Tracks of My Tears. In addition the album included a banjo-strumming version of Neil Young's Love Is a Rose, a plaintive pop reading of Jimmy Cliff's reggae classic Many Rivers to Cross and a lovely cover of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You. On Prisoner In Disguise Ronstadt delivers another collection of well-crafted, carefully arranged rock, pop and country songs that wonderfully exemplify her fine talent and taste. Now available on Mobile Fidelity Numbered Limited Edition 180g Vinyl!

You Can Get It If You Really Want

Pressed On Black & Blue Marble Colored Vinyl

    Limited To 1000 Copies

It took the 1972 release of the soundtrack to The Harder They Come to break Desmond Dekker internationally, but the King of Ska already was a legend in his own land of Jamaica, where songs like "007 (Shanty Town)" and "Rudie Got Soul" made him the face of the rude boy culture (and influenced several generations of British mods and rockers). This 1970 record, his first for the Trojan label, features Dekker's irresistible version of the Jimmy Cliff tune "You Can Get It If You Really Want," which went to #2 on the UK charts, as well as another hit, "Pickney Gal." We're reissuing this cornerstone ska/rocksteady classic on black & blue marble vinyl limited to 1000 copies first-ever reissue on wax!

Wally Badarou is a French-born synthesizer specialist, and long-time associate of the British band Level 42, known for its blend of funk, pop, soul and rock. He has co-written and performed on a number of the band's tracks since their recording dÉbut in 1980, later co-producing them. Though not an official member, he has long been considered an informal fifth member.

Badarou was one of the Compass Point All Stars (with Sly and Robbie, Barry Reynolds, Mikey Chung and Uziah Sticky Thompson), the in-house recording team of Compass Point Studios responsible for a long series of albums of the 1980s recorded by Grace Jones, Tom Tom Club, Joe Cocker, Mick Jagger, Black Uhuru, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Cliff and Gregory Isaacs. His keyboard playing can also be heard on albums by Robert Palmer, Marianne Faithfull, Herbie Hancock, Talking Heads, Foreigner, Melissa Etheridge, Manu Dibango and Miriam Makeba.

Echoes (1983) is his second solo album, which included Chief Inspector, Hi-Life and Mambo, which was sampled for Massive Attack's Daydreaming of the Blue Lines album. You can actually feel Caribbean sunshine with this music. Badarou breathes real life into his synthesizers on this album of happy, upbeat, and danceable instrumentals.

    Burnin'

The Wailers' fourth album overall, Burnin', was their second for Island Records, released only six months after its predecessor, Catch a Fire. Given that speed, it's not surprising that several tracks -- Put It On, Small Axe, and Duppy Conqueror -- are re-recordings of songs dating back a few years. But they fit in seamlessly with the newer material, matching its religious militancy and anthemic style.

The confrontational nature of the group's message is apparent immediately in the opening track, Get Up, Stand Up, as stirring a song as any that emerged from the American Civil Rights movement a decade before. The Wailers are explicit in their call to violence, a complete reversal from their own 1960s Simmer Down philosophy. Here, on Burnin' and Lootin', they take issue with fellow Jamaican Jimmy Cliff's song of the previous year, Many Rivers to Cross, asking impatiently, How many rivers do we have to cross/Before we can talk to the boss? I Shot the Sheriff, the album's most celebrated song, which became a number one hit in the hands of Eric Clapton in 1974, claims self-defense, admits consequences (If I am guilty I will pay), and emphasizes the isolated nature of the killing (I didn't shoot no deputy), but its central image is violent.

Such songs illuminated the desperation of poor Jamaican life, but they also looked forward to religious salvation, their themes accentuated by the compelling rhythms and the alternating vocals of the three singers. Bob Marley was a first among equals, of course, and after this album his partners, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, quit the group, which thereafter was renamed Bob Marley and the Wailers.

    Ballads

Before this ballad album was released, John Coltrane's critics and jazz fans classed him as an 'avant-gardist', a modernist, an angry, wild young man who made his tenor saxophone scream out. Tongues wagged that free jazz could be made by just anyone who hung a horn around his neck.

These eight ballads made people stop and listen with real pleasure. "Have you heard him? He can blow the notes properly, the pianist knows all the harmonies, and the drummer does far more than just bash!" These words were to be heard and read everywhere, in the specialist magazines, and in the jazz clubs from New York to Tokyo. All the themes are taken from the American Songbook, from musicals, and well-known numbers performed by Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee among others. All of them have been performed time and time again and although the musicians played the themes for the very first time at the recording session, their interpretation was well structured while at the same time fresh and intense. With the exception of just one number, all the titles were a complete success at the very first take; but that is not merely that which underlines the high musical standard of the quartet. Fans and critics alike have continued to hold this early Impulse production in high esteem to this very day, which is certainly due to the producer Bob Thiele. But a great part of the album's success is also due to the excellent work of the recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder, who has captured the intimate atmosphere with his microphones.
