    The Rolling Stones are set to release 'Blue & Lonesome', their first studio album in over a decade. Recorded in just three days in London, England, 'Blue & Lonesome' takes the band back to their roots and the passion for blues music which has always been at the heart and soul of The Rolling Stones.


    Their approach to the album was that it should be spontaneous and played live in the studio without overdubs. The band - Mick Jagger (vocals & harp), Keith Richards (guitar), Charlie Watts (drums), and Ronnie Wood (guitar) were joined by their long time touring sidemen Darryl Jones (bass), Chuck Leavell (keyboards) and Matt Clifford (keyboards) and, for two of the twelve tracks, by old friend Eric Clapton, who happened to be in the next studio making his own album.


    'Blue & Lonesome' sees the Rolling Stones tipping their hats to their early days as a blues band when they played the music of Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin' Wolf - artists whose songs are featured on this album.

    Shakey Jake - Mouth Harp Blues The late James Harris earned the moniker Shakey Jake due to his proficiency at dice, but he was equally adept at the blues game. The Arkansas-born, Chicago-based singer and harmonica blower traveled to Rudy Van Gelder's New Jersey studio in November 1960 to record this, his second album for the Bluesville label. Jake brought along Jimmie Lee Robinson, the brilliant, fast-fingered guitarist best known for his work with Little Walter's band. Also making tasty contributions to the session was Robert Banks, the New York R&B and gospel studio organist who, in this case, ably appointed himself as a two-fisted blues piano stylist. Among the 10 selections is the distinctively loping Easy Baby, a tune also associated with Jake's nephew Magic Sam.


    Guitarist Jimmie Lee Robinson, who died in 2002, was the soul of Acoustic Sounds' own APO Records. He was the first to record at Blue Heaven Studios, having made three records (one still unreleased) in the converted church, and he was there several more times to perform. A Chicago native and lifelong resident, Robinson began playing guitar in the open-air market on Maxwell Street in 1942 with the likes of Big Bill Broonzy and Robert Nighthawk. He later teamed with Freddie King for a four-year partnership and went on to play guitar and bass with Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Eddie Taylor, Elmore James, Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Reed, Magic Sam and of course Shakey Jake.

    Back For A Taste Of Your Love

    A rollicking vocalist and gifted harmonica player, Syl Johnson has forged a career in both blues and soul. The brother of bassist Mac Thompson and guitarist/vocalist Jimmy Johnson, Syl Johnson sang and played with blues artists Magic Sam, Billy Boy Arnold, and Junior Wells in the '50s before recording with Jimmy Reed for Vee-Jay in 1959. He made his solo debut that same year with Federal. Johnson toured with Howlin' Wolf from late 1959 until 1962, when Willie Mitchell signed him to Hi Records.


    Johnson recorded for both Twilight and Hi in the late '60s and early '70s, clicking with the dance/novelty cut Come on Sock It to Me and crackling message track Is It Because I'm Black? He had his biggest hit with Take Me to the River in 1975, reaching number seven on the R&B charts. Johnson later recorded for Shama and Boardwalk. He reappeared on a collaboration with his brother Jimmy in the summer of 2002, humorously titled Two Johnsons Are Better Than One.


    [Back For A Taste Of Your Love] ...moves his hard Chicago soul groove over to Willie Mitchell's production style, which has a bit more of a mellow tip to it. Syl wrote a number of the tracks, and the titles include I'm Yours, Feelin' Frisky, I Hate I Walked Away, and The Love You Left Behind.

    Donny Hathaway as arranger, King Curtis as producer, and a rhythm section that included Jerry Jemmott and Cornell Dupree. The groove tempos are not too fast and not too slow; in other words just right. The horn arrangements are sublime and Freddie's performance is top-notch. My Feeling For The Blues is a one-of-a-kind blues album by the great Freddie King.


    The first two songs, Yonder Wall and The Stumble set the tone for the whole recording. In fact, the album's opener is a laid-back rendition of Elmore James's Yonder Wall. King Curtis lays a great, soulful horn and Freddie's guitar sounds more upfront than on his previous LP.


    From there, My Feeling for the Blues listens as a tribute to the Giants of the Blues genre: King tackles B.B. King's I Wonder Why and Woke Up This Morning, T-Bone Walker's Stormy Monday, Jimmy Reed's You Don't Have to Go and Eddie 'Guitar Slim' Jones classic The Things I Used to Do, while upping the pace with a frantic, instrumental take on Ray Charles What'd I Say.


    One of the top best blues albums was getting harder to find, but is now available on vinyl again. Do yourself a favour and make sure you grab this one!

    With All My Life, his second APO Records release, Jimmie Lee is aiming for goose bumps and tears. And if you've got appreciation for acoustic, front porch blues, you'll have a tough time escaping his spell.


    No doubt Jimmie Lee Robinson offers a delightful taste of traditional blues. His work through the years with such stalwarts as Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Elmore James and Jimmy Reed have made their impressions on the man called The Lonely Traveler just as he has been credited with inspiring them.


    On All My Life you'll hear standby classics like a haunting, slowed-down version of Muddy Waters' Forty Days and Forty Nights with eerie harmonica accompaniment by Madison Slim. And Jimmie Lee even covers a non-blues favorite with What a Wonderful World. His live version of that song at a 1999 concert in Blue Heaven Studios - the converted church that is home to APO Records - brought tears to scores of the 400 in attendance.


    But All My Life is also packed with Jimmie Lee originals like the title track, which was once covered by John Mayall, where Jimmie Lee pleads with the woman of his dreams to return all the respect and love he's paid to her. That track is also a perfect showcase for the classic Jimmie Lee growling vocals and the spurs jangling from his boots as the only percussion.


    Unlike his first APO release, Remember Me, an almost entirely-solo effort, Jimmie Lee is joined on most of the All My Life tracks by APO artist and noted-guitarist Jimmy D. Lane and journeyman harp player Madison Slim, whose knack for acoustic blues is highlighted on this release.


    Jimmie Lee has gained national attention for his protest of the destruction of Chicago's famed Maxwell Street, said to be the birthplace of Chicago blues and the neighborhood where Jimmie Lee grew up. He fasted for 81 straight days, shunning solid food as if it was the wrecking ball he so badly wants to stop. His efforts were even documented on the front page of the New York Times.

    Painting Signs stands up as a complete work from beginning to end. Eric Bibb makes a fine case for blues as a music of introspection, warmth, and supreme nuance. Easily his most mature album to date, Painting Signs continues Bibb's formula of socially aware songs performed from an acutely personal point-of-view; standout tracks Don't Ever Let Nobody Drag Your Spirit Down and a cover of Hope In A Hopeless World hammer home his message of individual freedom and the responsibilities that accompany it. (It's no coincidence that Pops Staples, to whom Bibb dedicates this album, once recorded the latter song.) That's not to say Painting Signs is overly didactic or, indeed, 'heavy' in any way; even the most serious songs here, like the plea for peace and unity Got To Do Better, are leavened by a musical backdrop that's soulful and immediately accessible. Gospel-leaning backing vocals by Linda Tillery and her Cultural Heritage Choir help flesh out several cuts, and robust accordion fills by Bibb's longtime accompanist Janne Petersson add a subtle Louisiana flavor to the rolling, propulsive Kokomo and, to surprisingly good effect, the deep-grooved version of Jimmy Reed's Honest I Do. Elsewhere, he keeps a minimalist tone dominated by acoustic guitar, an arrangement that's particularly mesmerizing on the chilling title track. With its emphasis on sophisticated songcraft and its gentle blend of folk, gospel, and country influences, Painting Signs presents Bibb as an artist intent on blurring the line between blues and 'roots music' in general.

    At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.



    During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.



    A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.



    We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.



    We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

    Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as
    a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys.
    The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the
    legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King of Rock and Roll" trademark to his name.


    Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in over 35
    top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time. In 1968, after a
    series of very successful movies and top charting recordings, Elvis made a wise decision to work with the folks at NBC and develop a Christmas TV special,
    which would have The King perform in front of a live studio audience for the first time in years.
    This legendary career move spread like wildfire and soon was hailed as "The Comeback," further igniting his career to an all new high. The King
    took his shows to the theatres and casinos and super massive stadium tours over the next number of years, while releasing a plethora of even more gold
    and platinum recordings


    With the soundtrack album nearing release, it was already gaining popularity in advance thanks to the chart single smash If I Can Dream. This
    masterwork album included a treasure trove of rare television studio performances that captured a very great time in the musical history of this genius.

    Porcupine Meat

    Naming one's album after a song titled "Porcupine Meat" may seem a little unusual - unless, of course, you're Bobby Rush, who earned his first gold record in 1971 with a hit entitled "Chicken Heads." He elaborates on his recent composition: "If a lady won't treat me right, but she doesn't want anyone else to have me, that is hard to digest." Hence the lyric, "too fat to eat, too lean to throw away."


    Porcupine Meat is Rush's debut release for Rounder Records, and one of the best recordings of his astonishing 60-plus year career. The album is due out September 16, 2016.
    Rush estimates that he has cut over 300 songs since he first began making music. He has been honored with three Grammy nominations, as well as ten Blues Music Awards and 41 nominations. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2006.


    Make no mistake: Rush is not your typical octogenarian. At age 82, he exudes the energy of a 20-year-old, on the road for more than 200 dates a year. His hectic tour schedule has earned him the affectionate title King of the Chitlin' Circuit. Rush has traveled the globe including Japan and Beirut. In 2007, he earned the distinction of being the first blues artist to play at the Great Wall of China. His renowned stage act features his famed shake dancers, who personify his funky blues and the ribald humor that he has cultivated during the course of his storied career.


    Born Emmet Ellis, Jr. in Homer, Louisiana, he adopted the stage name Bobby Rush out of respect for his father, a pastor. According to Rush, his parents never talked about the blues being the devil's music. "My daddy never told me to sing the blues, but he also didn't tell me to not sing the blues. I took that as a green light."


    Rush built his first guitar when he was a youngster. "I didn't know where to buy one, even if I had the money. I was a country boy," he says. After seeing a picture of a guitar in a magazine, he decided to make one by attaching the top wire of a broom to a wall and fretting it with a bottle. He also got some harmonica lessons from his father He eventually acquired a real guitar, and started playing in juke joints as a teenager, when his family briefly relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas. The fake moustache Rush wore made club owners believe he was old enough to gain entry into their establishments. While he was living in Little Rock, Rush's band, which featured Elmore James, had a residency at a nightspot called Jackrabbit.


    During the mid-1950s, Rush relocated to Chicago to pursue his musical career and make a better life for himself. It was there that he started to work with Earl Hooker, Luther Allison, and Freddie King, and sat in with many of his musical heroes, such as Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, and Little Walter. Rush eventually began leading his own band in the 1960s. He also started to craft his own distinct style of funky blues, and recorded a succession of singles for a various small labels. It wasn't until the early 1970s that Rush finally scored a hit with "Chicken Heads." More recordings followed, including an album for Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff's Philadelphia International Label.
    Rush relocated one final time, to Jackson, Miss. in the early 1980s. He was tired of the cold up north, and he realized that setting up his base of operations directly in the center of the South would make it easier to perform in nearby cities on weekends. More indie label recordings followed. Songs like "Sue, A Man Can Give (But He Sure Can't Take It)," "What's Good For The Goose Is Good For The Gander Too," and" I Ain't Studdin' You" became regional jukebox favorites in juke joints throughout the region, and many of those songs are still fan favorites that are an integral part of his live repertoire.


    Since 2003, Rush has self-released the majority of his work (including the critically acclaimed Folk Funk album) on his Deep Rush label, but recently, he came to the realization that having a bigger record company behind him would be beneficial. "I outgrew myself," he says. "I need someone to help in doing the things I can't do. When you are wearing all the hats, you can't be everywhere at once."


    Enter esteemed producer and two-time Grammy winner Scott Billington, Rounder Records' longtime VP of A&R. Billington first met Rush at a Recording Academy meeting 25 years ago, and they became fast friends. He has wanted to work with Rush ever since. "He is the most vital bluesman of his generation," says Billington. He continues, "There are many people who still don't know Bobby Rush, even though he is a hero in the parallel universe of the Chitlin' Circuit - fans stop him on the street in Memphis and Helena and Little Rock."


    Porcupine Meat will not only please Rush's older fans, but is likely to win over many new ones. Billington reflects, "We wanted to come up with something fresh, while staying 100% true to Bobby."


    The album was recorded in New Orleans, and Rush was pleased and proud to be given the opportunity to make an album in his home state for the very first time. His impassioned vocals and in-the-pocket harmonica playing are among the best performances of his career. Unlike most of his recent releases, these sessions only feature real instruments and no synthesizers. All of the rhythm tracks were cut live in the studio, often edited down from jams that on several occasions ran close to ten minutes.


    For the project, Billington assembled some of the best Louisiana musicians, including Shane Theriot, David Torkanowsky, Jeffrey "Jellybean" Alexander, Kirk Joseph, Cornell Williams, and others. Rush brought along his old friend and longtime collaborator, guitarist Vasti Jackson, who worked with Bobby and Scott on getting the songs ready for the studio. Guitar greats Dave Alvin, Keb' Mo', and Joe Bonamassa all make guest appearances on the album.


    Rush has always been a prolific and clever songwriter. The songs he penned for Porcupine Meat such as "Dress Too Short," "I Don't Want Nobody Hanging Around," "Me, Myself And I," "Nighttime Gardener," "It's Your Move," and the title selection, all equal or rival his best material. "Funk O' De Funk" delivers exactly what the title suggests and what Rush has always done the best, which is putting the funk into the blues. While "Got Me Accused" is inspired by events from Rush's own life, the lyrics tell an all-too-familiar tale about the rampant racial injustice that afflicts our society. Producer Billington and his wife Johnette Downing (the well known New Orleans songwriter and children's musician) co-wrote a couple of fine selections, "Catfish Stew" and "Snake In The Grass."


    Bobby Rush is the greatest bluesman currently performing. Porcupine Meat is a testament to his brilliance, which presents him at his very best, and doesn't try to be anything that he is not. "I just try to record good music and stories," he humbly states. With this recording, he has more than accomplished his goal, and has produced one of the finest contemporary blues albums in recent times.

    Over the course of her acclaimed career, Carpenter has recorded 14 albums and sold over 14 million records. With hits like "Passionate Kisses" and "He Thinks He'll Keep Her," she has won five Grammy Awards (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards, two Academy of Country Music awards for her vocals and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Most recently, in 2014, Carpenter released her acclaimed debut orchestral album, Songs From The Movie.     A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.



    We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.



    We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.



    To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Glen Campbell's final studio album Adiós was recorded at Station West in Nashville following Glen's 'Goodbye Tour.' Produced by Glen's longtime banjo player and friend Carl Jackson, the album features Glen singing four Jimmy Webb songs that Glen never recorded but always loved, including the title track. Adios features songs written by Roger Miller, Bob Dylan, Dickey Lee, Jerry Reed, Fred Neil, and includes a duet with Willie Nelson - 'Funny How Time Slips Away' - and special guest Vince Gill on harmony vocals in 'Am I All Alone (Or Is It Only Me)'.


    The album is a true family affair as Glen's daughter Ashley and sons Cal and Shannon, all perform
    on the record.

    Heaven Is In Your Mind

    Traffic was one of the most original and influential British groups of the 1960s, gathering a diverse set of individual talents in vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood, singer/guitarist Dave Mason, drummer Jim Capaldi and reeds player Chris Wood. The foursomes expansive talents and formidable creative chemistry allowed the musicians to integrate an array of folk, jazz, pop and R&B elements, infusing their eclectic stylistic mix with a playfully psychedelic spirit that perfectly captured the experimental sensibility of the times.


    Traffics historic 1967 debut LP (produced by noted studio vet Jimmy Miller) was released in the U.K. as Mr. Fantasy, but initially reached U.S. shores in altered form as Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy. The American edition featured an altered track listing and new cover art with Winwood, Capaldi and Wood but not Mason, who had quit the band prior to the albums release.


    The U.S. LP added the British singles Paper Sun, Hole in My Shoe and Smiling Phases to the albums running order, along with a short snippet of the U.K. single Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush as a recurring motif between tracks. The American edition also tacked on the short closing track Were a Fade, You Missed This, which is actually the fadeout of an alternate version of Paper Sun. The American LPs title was quickly amended to Mr. Fantasy, and it was under that name that most stateside fans came to know the album, with the original U.S. edition becoming something of a rarity.


    In any form, and under any title, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy ranks as one of the most audacious and inventive rock albums of its time. Such catchy tunes as Paper Sun, Hole in My Shoe and Heaven Is in Your Mind combine stylistic adventurousness with effortless melodic appeal, while more introspective numbers like Dear Mr. Fantasy and Coloured Rain capture early stirrings of prog-rock and jazz-fusion.


    Sundazeds new vinyl edition of this seminal vintage disc completely restores the albums rare original U.S. cover art. The LP also features the albums incredibly rare mono mix, which differs substantially from the albums more familiar stereo mix. Pressed on pristine high-definition vinyl, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy now looks and sounds better than ever.

    That Joel Thibodeau's slender, winsome voice is at once so comforting
    and so unsettling might be the greatest of his many strengths. Reed-thin
    but sturdy, youthful but somehow ageless, its deep benevolence is also
    slightly eerie, and the way he gently walks the line between intense
    feeling and contemplative remove lets him sing from a timeless place
    where he evokes the beauty of vanished people and places, sweetness
    too profound for words, loss too great for tears.


    Like Nico's, Jimmy Scott's, or Phil Elverum's, Joel's is a voice that
    demands its own sonic and lyrical world, and with Island Intervals, his
    third record as Death Vessel (and second for Sub Pop), we're treated to
    the sound of him finding a rich and strange new home among new friends
    in Iceland who probably saw him as a long-lost relative. Joel's an inveterate
    and intuitive wanderer; when I met him years ago, he'd just spent a few
    months traveling the United States on Greyhound buses, sometimes
    sleeping rough, and making a record from found moments.


    Island Intervals springs from a more recent journey. For his first album
    since 2008's acclaimed Nothing Is Precious Enough for Us, Joel traveled
    to Reykjavík on an invitation from Sigur Rós singer Jónsi and producer
    Alex Somers, where they spent three months together conjuring an album
    that's both a song cycle and a window into a mysterious and singular
    landscape. Island Intervals wraps Joel's voice and furtive guitar in sounds
    that evoke not so much a band playing as elemental forces of earth and
    water; Pete Donnelly (The Figgs, NRBQ), Samuli Kosminen (Múm) and
    Thorvaldur Doddi Thorvaldsson assist Somers in creating a rich and
    multi-layered world that sounds, at times, like a well-tuned forest sighing
    and bending in a gale, or the deep cracks and booms of a glacier calving
    its way to the sea. Jónsi also joins Joel on vocals for the track "Ilsa
    Drown."


    Island Intervals lives in the spaces between running away and letting
    go, and finds its author embracing a life whose most solid, real moments
    loom and vanish, like a range of mountains that emerges from a bank
    of low clouds, and just as suddenly slips away.

    There's simply no sound in the blues as easily digestible,accessible, and instantly recognizable as the music of Jimmy Reed. His debut LP release, I'm Jimmy Reed, was about as strong a first album as was heard in Chicago blues. Really a collection of single sides rather than an actual album of new material, the tracks were recorded from June 1953 (Roll & Rhumba) through March 1958 (You Got Me Crying ) and include the songs on which he'd built his reputation over the previous five years, key among them: Honest I Do,Ain't That Lovin' You Baby, You Got Me Dizzy, and You Don't Have to Go, plus their highly relevant B-sides, which help give this album more depth and breadth than a formal hits collection would have had.

    Jimmy Reed's second album was a little different from his first. It is also a collection with previously released single sided recorded and released over the prior seven years; but three of the dozen songs here were new to listeners when they showed up on Rockin' with Reed. This album is every bit as enjoyable and equally essential listening, includingDown in Virginia, Going to New York, and Take Out Some Insurance, the latter two the latest recordings on this album; and even the one or two seeming throwaway here, the instrumentals Ends & Odds and My BitterSeed are worth hearing for what they reveal of the playing on these sessions. Reed's incredibly expressive voice, coupled with his sinewy guitar and virtuoso-level harp playing, is consistently great throughout.
