Coney Island BabyConey Island Baby is a 1976 album by Lou Reed, originally released in January by RCA Records. It is also the title of a song on that album. Many of the album's songs were inspired by Reed's girlfriend and muse at the time, a trans woman named Rachel. According to Aidan Levy, Coney Island Baby was as much a love letter to Rachel as it was to the nostalgic Coney Island of the mind. The album's title track directly references Rachel with the line: I'd like to send this one out to Lou and Rachel, and all the kids at P.S. one ninety-two. It was originally presented as a poem entitled The Coach and Glory of Love in The Harvard Advocate: Journal of Fiction and Poetry in 1971.1. Crazy Feeling

With the near impossible task of following up their critically acclaimed masterpiece OK Computer, Radiohead took another bold leap with Kid A, an experimental album built largely around the union of electronica and mood. Kid RockKid Rock is the self-titled sixth album by Kid Rock, originally released in 2003. It was critically acclaimed by Rolling Stone, which named it one of the 50 Greatest Albums of 2003. This is the last album to feature material in the genres of rap metal and hip hop before Rock crossed over to more country rock. Black Bob and Jackson, Mississippi were recorded for his 1996 album Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp in 1995, but were left off the album. Feel Like Makin' Love, Cold and Empty, Intro, Hillbilly Stomp and Run Off to LA were recorded for the demo sessions for 2001's Cocky, but did not make the cut has well. ADAD-WES-6946xKaitlyn Aurelia Smith
The KidIn 2015 Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith released her first widely distributed full-length album, Euclid. Little more than a year later Smith returned with her wonderstruck psychedelic breakthrough EARS to universal praise in the spring of 2016. Pitchfork called EARS rich and rewarding, and included EARS in their list of the top twenty experimental albums of the year, while other outlets including NPR, SPIN, and Rolling Stone sung similar best-of-the-year praises. In addition to releasing EARS in 2016, Smith toured with fellow sonic-adventurists Animal Collective, and soundtracked Google's incredible virtual tour series The Hidden Worlds of the National Parks.
This year sees the welcomed continuation of Smith's output, The Kid, an album that climbs to the peaks of its forerunner and astonishingly continues upward. The Kid aurally maps the emotional realities and spiritual epiphanies of a lifeform through its infancy, societal assimilation, and eventual self-remembrance, conjuring each phase with psychoacoustic eloquence. On her newest LP Smith challenges her listeners to entertain new paradigms of listenership by drawing our attention to multiple elements simultaneously, as if-- in her words-- listening to two conversations at once.LP 1

Tommy Rogers, the visionary vocalist and keyboardist of critically acclaimed progressive metal act, Between the Buried and Me, has dabbled in solo releases since 2004. Testing the limits of what he can do naturally with his voice, Rogers' strikingly beautiful falsetto and dynamic range conjures tales of anxiety, collapse, and strength. Exploring combinations of the outrÉ genres of both post-rock and electronic, the music's emotionally resonant yet textural sounds draw reference to artists such as Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, the Verve, Beck, Oasis and Spiritualized, balancing both rock and electronic impulses.LP 1

Indie-rap mainstay Aesop Rock has announced his new album, The Impossible Kid, dropping April 29th on Rhymesayers Entertainment, marking his first solo venture since 2012's Skelethon. On the new album, Aesop continues finding new ways to improve on the skills that have made him one of the kings of indie hip-hop. His creative process now includes a newfound willingness to open up about his personal life, going deep on topics like depression, his sometimes rocky relationship with his family, and the turbulent handful of years that culminated in Aesop leaving his adopted home of San Francisco to live in a barn out in the woods, where he recorded the foundations of The Impossible Kid. There's also moments of levity though, as Aesop taps into the funny side of his persona that he suppressed during the period where being taken as a serious lyricist was more of a priority. Like Skelethon, Aesop exercised complete creative control over every aspect of the album, from the production (which he handled himself, with instrumental help from Philly's Grimace Federation) to conceptualizing the cover art by his friend Alex Pardee.
Though it's been four years since his last solo album, Aesop has maintained an impressive creative streak, releasing collaborative albums with Kimya Dawson (The Uncluded's Hokey Fright in 2013), with Rob Sonic (Hail Mary Mallon's Bestiary in 2014), and with Homeboy Sandman (LICE's self-titled EP in 2015). He's also been actively crafting beats. Recent projects include producing the 32+ minute instrumental mix, The Blob, working together with Nike to provide the music for a series of their skateboarding videos, and producing the soundtrack for the upcoming film Bushwick, starring Dave Bautista and Brittany Snow.
He's also started skateboarding and drawing again, which were his big passions before his hobby of making rap songs turned into a paying gig that evolved into an accidental 20-year long career, taking him from making beats in his bedroom to playing for crowds thousands deep. Going back to his roots has proven useful in processing everything that's happened in his life over the past couple decades, and maybe to figure out the person he's become: The Impossible Kid, a person who's spent his life doing things that seemed unthinkable before he just went and did them, blazing a visionary trail all his own. Two decades in, he's still out there pushing it forward.1. Mystery Fish

Jack-O Is The Flipside KidJack Yarber began his professional music career in high school, appearing alongside high school friend and future Squirrel Nut Zippers founder Jimbo Mathus in the Corinth, Mississippi, based Johnny Vomit % the Dry Heaves. Yarber played drums in the outfit, which credited him as Johnny Goopa.
In the summer of 1987, Yarber moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to play music with his cousin. Yarber and his cousin played together using a number of band names, eventually releasing a new-wave 7 under the name, The End. The tracks You Never Called and People Talk were recorded at Phillips Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. That vinyl single marked Yarber's first appearance on record. By 1989 the two had diverged musically and Yarber's cousin left town, effectively ending their partnership.
Following the breakup of The End, Yarber's encounter with fellow musician Greg Cartwright led to the formation of the Compulsive Gamblers. Desptie recording two 7 albums and a handful of home recordings, the band was unable to garner record lable interest until after he success of their next band, the Oblivians. The Oblivians formed in 1993 as as side project to the Compulsive Gamblers, and included former Gambler Greg Cartwright, as well as future Goner Records founder, Eric Friedl. The members of the Oblivians all shared writing and recording responsibilities. Each member supplied vocals, guitar work, and percussion on albums and switched between instruments during live shows. The Oblivians lasted from 1993 until 1998, at which time Yarber and Cartwright left the band to reform the Compulsive Gamblers. The second incarnation of the Gamblers lasted form 1998 to 2003, when the bandmembers again went seperate ways.
After pursuing a brief solo career, Yarber teamed up with Scott Bomar to form the Tearjerkers. As Bomar became more and more involved with film scoring, Yarber began to take a more active role in the band, ultimately taking over as lead songwriter after Bomar's departure. With Yarber in control of the group, the band was rechristened the Tennessee Tearjerkers. At the same time as Yarber was writing songs with the Tearjerkers, he was also contributing in various ways to a number of side projects including, the Knaughty Knights, the Limes, and South Filthy which included collaborations with longtime associates Walter Daniels and Monsieur Jeffrey Evans.1. UNIM-ATO-4919xKopecky Family Band
Kids Raising KidsNashville based indie rock sextet Kopecky Family Band's highly anticipated full length debut Kids Raising Kids is an adventurous, self-released project. It's the culmination of five years progress for the band, both creatively and in terms of the chemistry that makes these six individuals a family. "It's a time capsule of all the experiences we've had since we started playing together" says co-founder Kelsey Kopecky (vocals/keys). Gabe Simon (vocals/guitar), whom Kelsey founded the band with adds that this is the record where Kopecky Family Band has "finally found its voice". The band feel that this record will allow fans to "take home the live experience" they are so widely revered for.
Thee band's first single, "Heartbeat", with its ethereal instrumentation, hand claps and percussive piano exemplifies the laid back, yet progressive nature of Kids Raising Kids. It showcases the lack of fear the band has trying different routes in their pursuit to find the best way to finish a song, taking advantage of their technical prowess while embracing simpler options when the song calls for it.
If pressed to classify the band's sound, Gabe will describe it as a "modern, more aggressive Fleetwood Mac. The thoughtfulness and originality that comes with such an answer can be found throughout Kids Raising Kids. The record works in much the same way as a book, with each song a unique chapter. The tracks all have their own personality and voice, but there is without a doubt still something inherently 'Kopecky Family Band' about each one. Kelsey will tell you the album is about "Discovering Life" and the fact that while we are born basically the same, our paths through life and the people we meet along the way are what make us the individuals we are. This concept is evident on the album, not just lyrically, but in the way each track explores new musical territory.1. Wandering Eyes

Copland - Appalachian Spring / Billy The Kid (Speakers Corner)Aaron Copland is among those Americans whose compositions have found worldwide recognition. Measured against his long lifespan (1900-1990), his creative phase was relatively short, and indeed he hardly composed at all from the Sixties onwards. His most important works were his answer to the musical crisis of the Thirties, and he has gone down in history as having greatly influenced the development of New Music in the USA.
The ballets Appalachian Spring (1944) and Billy the Kid (1938) are considered to be key works of their day. Both have folkloric traits, which brought Copland the reputation of having a penchant for borrowed melodies. In reality, the well-known tunes are very subtly treated and modified, and are incorporated into large-scale, defined forms. Now and again, melodic echoes of Mahler's music or highly rhythmic exposed passages reminiscent of Stravinsky flash through. The ballet Billy the Kid is thoroughly American. Arranged in orchestral 'wide-screen sound', as it were, cowboy melodies glow with the very best Wild West tradition, and are bedded in a dramaturgy which is almost ripe for a film soundtrack. The signal to Hollywood is virtually unmistakable. That is America.
Recording: June 1961 by C.R. Fine and Robert Eberenz
Production: Wilma Cozart-Fine and Harold Lawrence
About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Hits For KidsIncludes A CD Copy Of The Album
After releasing the Venus & Mars 10 earlier this year, Jett Rebel stirred up the music scene in The Netherlands by playing numerous gigs on festivals like Lowlands and Pinkpop, and receiving several national awards for his musical artistry. It is safe to say, 23 year old Jelte Tuinstra is simply bound for stardom.
Debuting with 14 psychedelic, pure Pop songs, his first full-length album is called Hits For Kids. As Jett himself explains, Hits For Kids implies that it's something you don't expect. It fits the theme of the record; nothing is what it seems. Tuinstra himself calls Hits For Kids songs for free spirits. Songs for people that want and dare to be themselves. Jett (or Jelte) really tells a linear story with Hits For Kids. The 14 songs are interweaved into one listening experience, telling the story of his coming-of-age since the first moment of his breakthrough last year.
Everything on the album has been written, composed and played by himself: drums, bass, guitar, vocals, organ, accordion, synth, percussion, even flute & sax. Hits For Kids was mixed in London by Tony Platt, known for mixing Bob Marley, AC/DC and Foreigner. The album is mastered by Ray Staff, who also mastered Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, The Clash and Muse.

Raise The KidsIn today's music scene, originality doesn't always seem to be the leading force. In fact, some might argue that many of the most successful current bands are simply breathing new life into the aesthetics of decades past. So when a band surfaces defying easy classification, their existence becomes a noteworthy matter. Brooklyn, New York's UnWed are just such a band. Although their members have made names for themselves for nearly 20 years in other musical endeavors (Hot Water Music, Small Brown Bike, Primitive Weapons, Gay For Johnny Depp, Errortype:11, etc), UnWed reaches far beyond anything in their combined history. Instead, the band bring their punk and indie roots to the table, amalgamating these influences with more traditionally heavy rock elements to create their unique sound. Add to the mix vocals provided by their powerful female singer and the overall result is undeniably interesting.
Following the release of their debut EP via No Idea Records, UnWed set out to write and record their first proper full length. The quintet teamed with an accomplished group of engineers, including Paul Leavitt, Ryan Jones, Brian McTernan, Will Beasley, and Travis Bacon, each with considerable resumes of their own. The end result, entitled Raise The Kids, captures a band bridging the gaps between hard rock, anthemic punk, and alternative with splendid precision.1. You'll Burn

Kids In The StreetKids In The Street is the 7th and latest album from American roots troubadour, Justin Townes Earle. After marrying, moving to various corners of the country and continuous touring with both full band and solo, Earle made time to reflect on the past few years and find new clarity. With Kids In The Street, he made a conscious decision to work with a producer for the first time in his now decade-long career. Earle made the trip to Omaha, Nebraska to work with Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit, M.Ward, Connor Oberst) at ARC Studios. Together, they handpicked musicians to create a new sound and environment for the songs that speaks to Justin's roots, musically and personally. Kids In LoveLove is all you need. It's been said many times and many ways of course, but it's truer now than ever.
When The Mowgli's first landed on the scene, their message of positivity and love resonated with audiences everywhere. The group's 2013 major label debut, Waiting for the Dawn [Photo Finish], debuted at #4 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and yielded the hit "San Francisco". Following its release, the seven-piece-Colin Louis Dieden [vocals, guitar], Katie Jayne Earl [vocals, percussion], Dave Appelbaum [keyboards], Josh Hogan [guitar, vocals], Matthew Di Panni [bass], Spencer Trent [guitar, vocals], and Andy Warren [drums]-performed on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CONAN, Watch What Happens Live, and more. Between headline tours and runs supporting everybody from Walk The Moon to Manchester Orchestra, they even cut a song for the Relativity Media hit film Earth To Echo. Along the way, their interpretation of love became even clearer, and it defines their sophomore outing, Kids In Love.
"Our first album essentially said, 'What's up everyone? We're The Mowgli's, and we believe love can change the world," explains Katie. "Over the past couple of years, we really came to terms with who we are as a band. With Kids In Love we're exploring the intricacies of love. It's such a broad concept. This time around, we get into intimate love, personal love, as well as universal love. We've found art is the best vehicle to ponder what this really means."
"Before, the concept was painted in very broad strokes," Colin goes on. "Our intention was to start a movement and a culture around what we do. We put all of that under a microscope on this album and talked about personal experiences and stories, the lack of love, and finding it again."
"We've learned so much about the business, ourselves, and this message," adds Josh. "We've become more direct. It's a little wiser."
In order to properly convey that sentiment, the group teamed up with producer Tony Hoffer [The Kooks, Silversun Pickups, Fitz & The Tantrums] in his Los Angeles studio during the summer of 2014. With Hoffer at the helm, they fine-tuned their sound into an elegant amalgam of influences. Additionally, they recorded with prior collaborators Captain Cuts [Smallpools, Tove Lo] - a production team that includes Ryan Rabin of Grouplove, and worked with Matt Radosevich [Walk The Moon, One Direction] on two additional tracks. "We wanted to create songs that we knew we would enjoy playing live, songs we hoped that speak to people's personal experiences with love and life and loss and everything that comes with being a kid - or really anyone - in love," Katie explains.
"We've been on tour incessantly, and this album was really written all over the country," Colin recalls. "It was composed in green rooms, hotels, parking lots, and everywhere in between. I went to Nashville for a week on a whim and tried to learn how to write country music. I was so lucky to work with some of the best in the business. I wanted to bring some of those storytelling elements into the music too. We really grew up, and the songs reflect that journey."
The first released track "Through The Dark" builds from a shimmering acoustic guitar into an unshakable harmony between Josh and Colin. It shines its own kind of musical light.
"Everybody goes through dark times," Josh asserts. "We're trying to put a positive spin on that though, and show you can get through that darkness no matter what."
Colin continues, "In a weird way, it feels like the answer to Waiting for the Dawn. It's a hopeful and encouraging song."
Then, there's the first single "I'm Good." It begins with a sun-soaked clean guitar and resounding percussion before snapping into a delightful refrain that's undeniably unforgettable. You'll feel good after one listen
Elsewhere on the album, "Whatever Forever" is augmented by driving handclaps and a group chorus that proves infectious. Lyrically, it stemmed from some shared ink within the band. "Colin and I both got a tattoo of that phrase a few years ago in a hotel bar during Hurricane Sandy," smiles Josh. "We'd seen it on the wall of a bar, and it felt like the perfect new life motto. We're not worried about anything; we're just going for it."
"That's a personal favorite," concurs Colin. "After one show, I had a girl walk up to me and say, 'I've been dealing with so much and hurting so badly. I adopted 'Whatever Forever' as my mantra. I needed that.' Sometimes, you need to distance yourself from what hurts."
Ultimately, The Mowgli's open up their hearts once more, and the results are nothing short of inspiring. "We just want people to feel good," Katie concludes. "It's a domino effect. If someone leaves a show feeling great, maybe they pay it forward. If we can contribute a little bit of joy, companionship, and happiness, we're doing our part to make the world a little brighter."
"I want them to feel inspired to do something positive," Josh agrees. "It's all about sharing that." Colin leaves off, "I want this to be a positive transformative experience. It's almost like falling in love. When you're in a good mood, you tend to react positively. I hope it adds more positivity and love to the world."1. You're Not Alone

Take The Kids Off BroadwayFoxygen is the young bi-coastal songwriting duo of vocalist Sam France of Washington state and guitarist/keyboardist Jonathan Rado of New York. They are the raw, de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets, Bowie, etc. that a whole mess of young people desperately need. At the same time, they pull a very Anderson-type move wherein they paint an impressionistic and hyper-real (and instantly recognizable) portrait of specific places and times, and blurring the lines between time and place.
Yet, it never comes across as anything but absolutely modern music. They bring the freewheeling qualities of someone like Ariel Pink to those aforementioned influences to make for one of the most refreshing listens of the year. They are the real deal and total savants. Jagjaguwar is proud to introduce you to Foxygen and their bedroom masterpiece Take the Kids Off Broadway mixed by Richard Swift. The album is an intriguing, bedroom-recorded prelude to their Swift-produced full-length planned for late 2012.1. Abandon My Toys

Of Horses, Kids, And Forgotten WomenOriginally released in 1968, Hearts And Flowers' second and final album, Of Horses, Kids, and Forgotten Women, is mentioned mostly in passing as the major recording debut of future Eagle, Bernie Leadon. This is totally unfair as the album is a classic slice of late '60s West Coast psychedelic country-rock that is as good as or better than their amazing debut. Symptoms And Cures
Originally formed in 2000 by members of Winnipeg, Canada's underground music scene, Comeback Kid has amassed a catalog of four full-length international releases along with a live CD/DVD. Says vocalist Andrew Neufeld about the band's origins: "We wanted to keep the intensity from our other bands or those we looked up to at the time, but also took influence from '90s skate punk and more melodic acts." He continues: "We wanted the music to be heavy, but the vocals were meant to incorporate a bit more melody than was found in traditional hardcore."
Since dropping their debut full-length, 2003's Turn It Around, Comeback Kid has been an undeniable staple of the hardcore community. Each subsequent release has built upon the foundation of its predecessor while continually experimenting with and incorporating new musical elements from beyond the confines of modern hardcore. Five seconds into 2010's Symptoms + Cures, though, it's made clear that this time around, Comeback Kid has pushed their output to a new plateau.
Symptoms + Cures is the latest offering from the lineup currently consisting of Andrew Neufeld on vocals, founding members Kyle Profeta on drums and Jeremy Hiebert on guitar, as well as guitarist Casey Hjelmberg and bassist Matt Keil. The album is firmly rooted in the brand of hardcore that its three predecessors helped established, yet incorporates more musical layers and vocal variance than we've heard from the band thus far.
Trademark elements of the band's sound are abundant on Symptoms + Cures ie gang vocals, half-time bridges, and tastefully-placed breakdowns. However, the record also features a more dynamic vocal performance than previous offerings, weaving a much harsher and urgent vocal delivery with sing-able passages, not to mention new musical expansions that stray from the straight-up simplicity of hardcore. Still, these new elements only serve to enhance, not overpower, the core of Comeback Kids' sound, and this is assuredly a Comeback Kid album. Colored vinyl pressing from Victory Records!1.
