    Knife Wounds

Brothers Born is Joel Stroetzel (Killswitch Engage) and Michael Wyzik (Storm The Ohio). The project is a big departure from the metal of Stroetzel's Killswitch Engage or the indie-americana of Wyzik's bands, occupying a musical middle-ground of sorts. Wyzik and Stroetzel play nearly every note on Knife Wounds, with the exception of some background vocals and drums on two tracks. the duo recorded the record in Stroetzel's Easthampton, MA studios.

    Halfway Human

Born and bred in the same heavy metal rich Northeast soil as New Wave Of American Heavy Metal progenitors Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Unearth and Shadows Fall.... Weaned on the dark sounds of classic death metal, the technical melodicism of Scandinavia and the precision staccato crunch of Meshuggah, Within The Ruins have busted their collective ass to carve out a unique identity for themselves from those ingredients and have succeeded like never before with this year's Halfway Human.

No Regrets No Shame: The Bridge Nine Years

This LP/DVD package captures legendary modern hardcore band Terror in their beginning stages with never-before-seen interviews and performances from their most popular career-defining album, Lowest of the Low. Hydra

Within Temptation have announced that they will release their sixth studio album, 'Hydra,' on Jan. 31. In addition, the Dutch band has revealed some unexpected surprises in the form of guest appearances on the disc.

Known for creating their own brand of symphonic metal, Within Temptation have a few surprises in store on 'Hydra.' The guest list includes collaborations with Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, former Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones and perhaps the most surprising of them all - hip-hop artist Xzibit. The set also includes the recently released track 'Paradise (What About Us?)' featuring former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen.

Xzibit joins forces with Within Temptation on a track called 'And We Run,' a song described by frontwoman Sharon Den Adel as an anthem about how to live your life. "He's rapping at full force on this song, it's really heavy," says Adel. "Xzibit brings a new element to our music that we've never had before! It's a new cross-over and we love it!"

Jones' contribution comes on 'Dangerous,' one of the heavier tracks on the disc. "I always loved Howard's voice," shares Adel. "He makes the song even heavier than it already is. That song is one of my favorite songs on the record and one of the fastest we've ever written. It has the most bass drums we've ever used, too, and a very fast riff which we doubled with synths. It's not a typical synthesizer, though - it's distorted like a guitar, and it's very aggressive."

    08:18

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA release 8:18 via Roadrunner Records. The album was recorded with producer/engineer Matt Goldman. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, who handled production duties on THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA's Dead Throne LP, served as executive producer on the upcoming effort. Songtitles set to appear on the disc include Gloom and Martyrs, both of which the band has been performing live at recent shows.

Asked how the new effort compares to 2011's Dead Throne, Hranica told Music Feeds: I think it's kind of a totally new animal. It definitely is a very cohesive record. A lot of the times, I feel like we'll write songs and a lot of them are really cool songs and they'll all have kind of a theme, but sometimes they stray from that path of the theme that we originally intended. And I think that this album as a whole, it all sounds like the album, it all is a cohesive idea. Which, don't get me wrong - I don't mean to say that all the songs sound the same, because they definitely, each has their own unique personality. But as far as 'Dead Throne', our progression from 'Dead Throne', I definitely do think that this album is just a more mature record and has a lot more thought put into it. As always - we're always gonna put a little bit more effort and thought into the new record than our previous effort.

Hranica told Loudwire about the songwriting process for the new album: For me, I definitely feel a little bit of a carry-over from 'Dead Throne', particularly because it was a very cool record for me learning, for me learning to write better and that was working with a new [producer] working with Adam for the first time and having [A DAY TO REMEMBER's] Jeremy McKinnon working on some of the songs with us, and I feel I took a lot from that. On 'Dead Throne', there were better vocal parts and everything was more cohesive and understandable and made for better song structure and everything and that had had a big impact on me creatively and so it's definitely carried over into this.

He added: Conceptually, the concepts of 'Dead Throne' didn't carry over. I feel like that would be repetitive and monotonous to keep going at the same subject matter, but obviously, it all comes from the same place and I can say that nothing got more happy or uplifting, really. So I think it's very much THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, but also it's got a bit of freshness and originality to it and I think that even musically we started approaching the songs differently. Like, this song could be more like this and working off of a base we never really worked off of before.

    Dormant Heart

'Dormant' is not a word that you can associate with Reading's metallers SYLOSIS - the band who have in the past few years alone toured with LAMB OF GOD, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, DEVIL DRIVER and TRIVIUM. As well as playing huge festivals across the globe such as Sonisphere, Wacken, Graspop and Pukkelpop.

Dormant Heart is not a peaceful album, it's a powerful force, unleashing anger against every day injustice and a sleeping society that lets these things wash over them. Frontman Josh Middleton explains: "The title refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd. How a lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's 'tradition' as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that happen and change our perspective or consciousness "

One might take this catalyst as being representative of the driving accident that SYLOSIS had on a US tour with TRIVIUM and DEVIL DRIVER in September 2013. Luckily the band escaped the RV accident without major injuries but had to withdraw from the rest of the American shows. It was a big influence on the writing of their fourth album. This isn't a band that lets the tough gruelling schedule of touring wear them down though and once they'd been patched up and recovered they were back on the road in the UK. The incident did however provide food for thought as to how the band has to some extent a constant element of danger and personal sacrifice.

SYLOSIS began tracking the album back in March 2014 working away secretly alongside touring commitments. Josh Middleton took a step up on this album producing it himself with the help of engineer Scott Atkins. The album was mastered by TESSERACT guitarist Acle Kahney. Josh says of the recording process "It was great doing some of the recording with Scott again. We've got a good working relationship and he's really dedicated to what he does. We like to strive for a very earthy and organic sound. It adds to the human element and brings out the intensity and vibe in the music."

Guitars and vocals were recorded at Wizard Sound Studios in the band's hometown Reading. Drums were recorded in May at Monkey Puzzle Studios by original drummer Rob Callard who parted ways with SYLOSIS in September 2014 due to time restraints. BLEED FROM WITHINs Ali Richardson is now drumming for the band permanently after filling in for some live shows on the bands spring 2014 tour.

Dormant Heart retains the distinctive SYLOSIS sound; a mixture of intense heavy guitar riffs, breakdowns, thudding rhythm and Middleton's growl. It's difficult to tie-down the band into a specific type of metal genre. Stomping opener 'Where The Wolves Come To Die' unleashes an aggressive start whilst 'Leech' provides those breakdowns and epic choruses. 'Mercy' demonstrates the mix of galloping rhythm and melodic guitar riffs whilst Josh fiercely declares 'there's no redemption'. Aptly named closer track 'Quiescent' provides over 9 minutes of solemn prog showing a less forceful side of the band it's ballad like in nature, with lyrics questioning Maybe the flames are all they have?' It's softer in dynamic but the sense of impending doom remains 'Fail to rescue// I can see// Now the line is drawn at our feet'.

Josh summarises the record as their best work to date. "It's the most pissed off, aggressive and intense album we've done, yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's a very gloomy and atmospheric album. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals and we've made our darkest album to date."

Deceiver Of The Gods (Out Of Stock)

Melodic death metal heroes AMON AMARTH are pleased to unveil the details of their ninth studio album. Titled Deceiver of the Gods, the epic offering was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The cover art was, once again, completed by Tom Thiel and depicts a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki & Thor. Fans will also recognize a special appearance on this album with Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) providing guest vocals for eighth song, "Hel."

Comments vocalist Johan Hegg: "We feel very excited about this new album, and personally I feel that Deceiver of the Gods is the strongest album we've ever done. By far! I'm confident that all our fans will enjoy this 'punch-in-the-face-of-a-record!"
