    King Of The Beach

King of the Beach, the new Wavves album is an adventurous and ambitious record. It cuts deeper into the bleeding throat catharsis and 60s sunshine soul that Wavves is known for. It also unexpectedly flips out with elements of primitive electronics and psychedelic studio experimentation. Unlike Wavves previously released material, recorded in haphazard bursts on Williams laptop, King of the Beach was toiled over for three months at Sweet Tea Recording, a world-renowned studio in Oxford, Mississippi. Sweet Tea is also the home of Dennis Herring, producer of the last two Modest Mouse albums, and the man who dismantled and re-assembled the sound on this record.

This debut album, originally released in 1992, is named after Blues-Rock band The Red Devils' favourite Hollywood spot, which also happens to be the place where they cut this live album.

During the recordings with legendary producer Rick Rubin, they were introduced to Mick Jagger and Johnny Cash, who would later record songs with them and occasionally join them on stage at the Los Angeles club.

The stars were aligned for a bright future for The Red Devils, but unfortunately internal frictions and substance abuse problems put an end to their career in 1994.

Their only full length album, 'King King' is seen as a true Blues classic and Music On Vinyl is honoured to release this album on vinyl for the very first time.

    King Tuff

King Tuff is the new record from King Tuff, his first for Sub Pop and his second album overall. Was Dead, King Tuff's 2008 debut, captured the attention of the rock underground and quickly blew through its limited pressing (it now resides on ebay, being snatched up for hearty sums). His gem of a new album was produced by Bobby Harlow, of The Go and Conspiracy of Owls, and recorded during a furious two-week run in Detroit, MI.

And Bobby has the following, among a great many other things, to say about it: "After investigating Was Dead I realized that, with his latest offering, King Tuff's songwriting was stretching far beyond the thrill of the immediate dance-floor reflex and now revealed a songwriter with a keen eye inside everyone. That was the stuff that I was interested in.

    King Krule

King Krule's (formerly Zoo Kid) second release brings with it, an expansion of vision, both musically and thematically. The connective tissue between these five tracks is still Marshall's stark, direct lyrics, but over the span of the self-titled EP, there is an arresting sonic progression, as his songs open up to become a loose knit meditation and renewal of hope in the face of desperation. Shades of The Streets' plainspoken and observant ramble dance with the heart on sleeve confessions of Billy Bragg. Archy's influences are a patchwork for his voice to lay in, woven from several generations music as divergent as the 80s romantics, jazz, no wave and dub.

The first vocal track 'Bleak Bake', for instance, opens with levitating keyboards and Marshall clearing his throat, before sampled strings and 808 drum 'pooms' swoon in and he sighs. 'The Noose of Jah City' drives the knife in deeper -some of his most intoxicating incantations to date- with Marshall singing of being "suffocated in concrete" over a lushly upholstered backdrop of chiming guitars and shuffling sampled beats. While in the gorgeous 'Portrait in Black and Blue' he unleashes a bounding piece of classic croon. But even though the subject matter may at times be harrowing, the songs themselves are never anything less than exquisitely crafted, possessed of an almost spectral beauty, as epitomised in the shimmering instrumental intro "363N63".

Taken as a whole, the "King Krule" EP is the sound of a young man growing up and attempting to grapple with the realities of the world he inhabits, and a fascinating, brutal journey it is too.

John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Johnny "Guitar" Watson And More On 180 Gram Vinyl Pressed At R.T.I.

Selected from the crown jewels of the rich King-Federal-DeLuxe discography, King Strings features rocking, socking guitar instrumentals from the Cincinnati-based family of labels cut between 1949 and 1962, programmed for power! Fashioned as a vintage King LP from the era and containing a killer line-up of the biggest talents the stable of labels offered, this is the historic various artists collection that should have been issued circa 1962. King was central to the underlying creative flow in R&B during the era, and the recordings here show the depth of style and synergy that the label routinely captured on vinyl. From the proto-funk groove of Hooker's "Stomp Boogie" (under the pseudonym Texas Slim) to two cuts of Baker magic captured in Paris over a decade later, and including key cuts from Freddy King, Albert King, Johnny "Guitar" Watson and many others in between, you'll individually hear a variety of instruments, tones and techniques, but together the clear, common artistry of the players' sovereign ability, sequenced like a long, climactic solo-this is the sound of some of the most heralded talent of the guitar generation! Includes a rich, detailed insert with rare photos and extensive liner notes by Colin Escott. Join six-string soul royalty for a showcase from the company that called itself The King of Them All!

    Boy King

Wild Beasts have announced their new album Boy King, their most direct and vital collection to date.

Where 2014's Present Tense album found Wild Beasts in reflective mood, absorbing a fascination with
online culture and electronic music, Boy King has them, as Tom Fleming puts it, "back to being pissed
off". The quartet's ever-present knack for sensual melody via Hayden Thorpe and Fleming's dueting
vocals, Ben Little's sinuous guitar groove and Chris Talbot's potent rhythm section carries in Boy King an
aggressive, snarling and priapic beast that delves into the darker side of masculinity and Thorpe's own
psyche. As Hayden himself says, "After five records there had to be an element of 'what the fuck?'".

A newfound creative friction between Thorpe and Fleming proved key to unleashing the unique pop
sensibility of Boy King - Fleming's more visceral experimentation unlocking new dimensions in Thorpe's
own writing. After spending a whole year finessing this new found impetus in East London, the band
emerged with a collection of songs ready to take to Dallas, TX and producer John Congleton (St.
Vincent, Swans, The War on Drugs). Both Thorpe and Fleming credit that trip to Dallas with teasing out
the raw power of Boy King.

The raw pop of Boy King's songs are the perfect foil to Thorpe's libidinous lyricism: "it became apparent
that that guitar almost became the character within the songs, that phallic character, the all-conquering
male," he says. "I'm letting my inner Byron fully out, I thought I'd tucked him away, but he came
screaming back like the Incredible Hulk." Here lies Boy King's greatest success. Between the slide of
prowling aggression and interior darkness, there are glorious, gorgeous moments. It's yet another
incomparable Wild Beasts record; a visceral, sensual and jolting body of work that acts as a remarkable
soundtrack to the early 21st century male malaise.

King Bee is the final release by Blues legend Muddy Waters (born in 1913 as McKinley Morganfield), originally released in 1981 and produced by Johnny Winter. Due to Waters' failing health, the LP was recorded in only three days in May of 1980. The LP includes newly recorded Muddy Waters classics, such as I'm A King Bee, Champagne & Reefer, Sad Sad Day and (My Eyes) Keep Me In Trouble. Around the time of the album's release, Waters hit the road with a new band as much as his slowly declining health allowed him to.

By the end of 1981, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have part of his lung removed. Still, in 1982 a new tour was booked but an increasing number of performances had to be canceled. And after having made a surprise appearance at an Eric Clapton concert in Miami that Summer, Waters found out the cancer had returned as he was coughing blood. Sadly, his body wasn't strong enough for another operation. On April 30, 1983 McKinley Morganfield died of a heart attack. Five years later he was posthumously inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Amongst his admirers are Buddy Guy, The Rolling Stones, Rory Gallagher, John Mayall and Steve Winwood.

    Woman King

Aside from the immediacy and intimacy of his recorded work, there is one thing clear about Iron & Wine's Sam Beam: he is wonderfully and seemingly effortlessly prolific. In just short of 2 years he has released 2 full-length albums and two EPs. Recorded in August 2004 with Brian Deck at his Engine Studios in Chicago, Iron & Wine's latest release, the Woman King EP, is striking both for its broadened palette (percussion, piano, violin, even electric guitar all crop up here) and its thematic focus on female characters both archetypal and personal. The latter is mostly coincidental, a larger batch of songs yielding recurrent imagery when pared down for this EP. That negotiation with the sexual other might be best summed up with a line from My Lady's House: Thank god you see me the way you do/Strange as you are to me. And, the increasingly complex beauty of Iron & Wine's albums might best be summed up by the following, from SPIN (in a review of Our Endless Numbered Days): It all works because Beam is a fearlessly accessible songwriter, framing his melancholy in concrete imagery and solid, inviting melodies. He writes with the self-confidence of a man at peace with his gauzy gufts. He sings like a father talking to a child he respects or like a husband to a wife he adores. Beam has given us his second straight masterwork: self-assured, spellbinding and richly, refreshingly adult. Here's his third.

    Prom King

When Ryan DeRobertis announced the name change of his project from Saint Pepsi to Skylar Spence, there was no indication of any stylistic departure, though the change arrived with a musical shift toward faster tempos and more pristine production. Whereas Saint Pepsi had often used decades-old boogie, disco, and new wave as grist for the sampling mill, Skylar Spence is intent on trafficking more overtly in those genre aesthetics through his own production techniques and vocal contributions. With 'Prom King,' DeRobertis reorients his music for his new full-band live act and winds up with an album full of tight and enveloping dance tunes. Working with Carpark Records "gave me the confidence to 'go big' with the new material: to write pop songs with universal messages in the sonic wrapping paper that I've grown accustomed to," DeRobertis says. "A few songs on 'Prom King' are about specific events in my life-a party where I got too messed up, watching a friend's life spiral out of control and trying to help-but I tried hard not to be too autobiographical because I want my music to unite, above all else. I'm much more interested in connecting with the listener than mystifying my personality."

While DeRobertis' previous long-players have been more amorphous collections in the style of beat tapes, 'Prom King' is compact and cohesive, with the album's varied stylistic references (new wave, UK garage, boogie) united through strong guitar melodies and Todd Edwards-ian cobblings-together of tiny vocal samples. "I slowed some music down and called myself an artist," DeRobertis sings on lead single "Can't You See," acknowledging in his lyrics what is already apparent in the music's tone-he can maintain fidelity to his vision while working in more uptempo, disco-based song structures. "Ridiculous!" and "Bounce Is Back" are big groovers that capitalize on jacking hi-hats and hand drumming, respectively, and both have an air of Balearic warmth and smoothness. On the title track, DeRobertis entwines a chorus of unintelligible but expressive samples with his own vocals-what feels like a synthesis of two approaches-and the result is an affecting pattern of build and release. More contemplative sophisti-pop numbers like "Fall Harder" and "Affairs" add a realist's breadth of scope: thoughts of past foibles bleed into present-dwelling and dancing. 'Prom King' is DeRobertis making sense of missed opportunities. His high school did not have a prom king; he has filled the position with an imaginative album of personal and musical revisionism.

    Meet King Leg

"A nod to the mod element and The Smiths are in the music of King Leg." - HuffPost

"King Leg is a whiz-kid from the west coast who's got a knack for channeling Roy Orbison and "Sing Your
Life"-era Morrissey with equal measures of success. Quite simply one of the freshest voices I've heard in
ages. Meet King Leg is a blast." - A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed

Los Angeles-based Rock 'n' Roll force of nature King Leg is set to release his full-length album debut Meet King Leg on vinyl via Sire Records.

King Leg and his band have been playing shows to their growing fan base around LA when they are not
on the road opening for album co-producer Dwight Yoakam.

Seymour Stein, Chairman of Sire Records thought of the music Joyce creates by saying: "When I heard
King Leg's music, I was totally blown away - not just by the immediacy of the songs, but also the
extraordinary voice - reminiscent of the great Roy Orbison. King Leg may be young, but musically he is
    fully mature."

Pressed on 180 Gram Vinyl at Record Technology, Inc. (RTI) and Sourced From the Original King/Federal Analog Tapes

Syd Nathan, impresario of Cincinnati's King Records, was the epitome of the old-school indie record label owner. Always hustling, Nathan regularly beat the odds to release hit after hit in multiple genres. He'd try anything if he thought it might work, or more precisely, if he thought it would make money. After issuing the hit album Let's Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King, Syd sensed untapped potential in the LP. Inspired by the West Coast surf scene, he conjured a little marketing magic...GET A NEW COVER WITH SOME SURF KIDS! THROW SOME CROWD NOISE OVER TRACKS SO IT SOUNDS "LIVE"! CALL IT...ERR...FREDDY KING GOES SURFIN'! PRESS IT AND HAVE IT ON THE SHELVES BY NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!

While it may not have happened EXACTLY like that, King Records did release the album containing the very same songs (in precisely the same running order) as Let's Hide Away...with crowd noise dubbed over the music. And it WORKED! Fellow Lone Star blues maven Billy F. Gibbons later picked it as one of his Top Ten Favorite Blues Albums of All Time. Sundazed is proud to present Freddy King Goes Surfin' in magnificent mono fidelity. Cowabunga!

    I Was A King

Oslo, Norway's I Was A King debuted in 2007 with the European release of the critically acclaimed album Losing Something Good For Something Better. On its successor, I Was A King, frontman Frode Stromstad further explores his unique gift of creating addictive melodies with distinctive roots to the '60's distorted through the sound of the '90's. The album was recorded at Marlborough Farms in Brooklyn and features performances by Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh), Sufjan Stevens, Daniel Smith (Danielson) and Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor). I Was A King was mixed by Nick Terry (Primal Scream, The Libertines).

Similar to the critically acclaimed, chart-topping bow The King is Dead, the EP is a mostly-acoustic set of 6 Americana-based songs, recorded around the same time as The King is Dead, and including their stunning cover of the Grateful Dead track Row Jimmy. King Of Jeans

If 2005's Shallow was Pissed Jeans coping with moving out of their parents' homes, and 2007's Hope for Men their initial reaction to the mechanical lifestyle of a wage-earner, King of Jeans is their formal and uneasy acceptance of adulthood, by way of one hell of a rock record. Working with renowned producer Alex Newport (At the Drive-In, The Locust and Sepultura), Pissed Jeans have pushed further into the raw, minimal core of heavy rock music with King of Jeans. Masters of the mundane, beasts of the banal, high priests of the humdrum: these four, white, male high school graduates hardly look further than their own appendages for artistic inspiration, content to execute their own brand of brash and heavy punk music in the Joe Carducci-approved standard rock formation of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. From simple minds and simple fabrics comes the King of Jeans.

    The King Is Dead

The King Is Dead is a mostly-acoustic set of 10 concise, Americana-based songs, that marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the Decemberists wildly ambitious and acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards Of Love. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck.

The King Is Dead showcases the ways in which The Decemberists; Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen, sound just as glorious in simple, stripped-down compositions as they do on the elaborate structures that have defined their work for years. The album was recorded in a converted barn at Pendarvis Farm, an 80 acre estate of lush meadows, forest, and Mt. Hood views outside of Portland, and it was the concept of the barn, as recording space and as attitude, that informed the making of the album.

    King Of America

    180 Gram Vinyl

Elvis Costello returned to his folk-rock and pub rock roots with King of America, creating one of his most affecting
and personal records with the hit single "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and other hugely popular songs such as Brilliant Mistake, American Without Tears, and Indoor Fireworks. Now King Of America is available on 180 gram vinyl remastered from the original master tapes!

Elvis Costello spent the year prior to recording King of America embarking on a solo tour, usually accompanied by producer/singer-songwriter T-Bone Burnett. The pair's decision to collaborate on Costello's 1986 album came naturally, and the music sounds it-emotional, effortless, literate, seemingly uncomplicated. Credit, however, not only goes to the best batch of Costello originals since 1982's Imperial Bedroom, but to the literally awesome and awe-inspiring cast of musicians Burnett invited to participate.

    King For A Day

    Import

After Faith No More founding guitarist Jim Martin split the band in 1994, Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle took over six string duties for King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime. Upon its release, the album quickly reasserted that Faith No More were still on top of their game.

Keeping their harder edge on songs like Get Out, Ricochet and Cuckoo For Caca, the album is balanced with romantic love songs (Evidence), breezy Pop (Caralho Voador) and the more experimental tinged title track.

The original release was sparsely pressed on vinyl which makes King For A Day a true collector's item.

    The King Of Limbs

Radiohead's highly anticipated eighth album, The King Of Limbs follows-up the artistic provocateurs' 7-time Grammy nominated 2007 release In Rainbows. The eight song collection was produced by longtime collaborator, Nigel Godrich and is arguably the most groove-oriented set of Radiohead's restless career.

King Of Limbs was named in honor of one of Great Britain's oldest trees. Nicknamed 'Big Belly Oak' and located in the 4,000-acre Savernake Forest in Wiltshire, England, the tree is estimated to be around 1,000 years old and has a girth of over 36 feet. The album was recorded in a country home less than three miles from Big Belly.
