King Jammy Presents New Sounds Of Freedom

King Jammy is one of reggae's most prolific and innovative producers, with New Sounds Of Freedom he shows himself strong once again.

New Sounds of Freedom adds a new chapter to a story that now bridges three albums. In 1977 Black Uhuru recorded "Love Crisis" a 10
song classic from the defining era in reggae. The rhythms were laid at Harry J's Recording studio with Sly & Robbie, Chinna Smith, Johnny
Osbourne, Winston Wright and Gladstone Anderson among others. Then voiced and mixed at King Tubby's studio. The album was later
remixed by Prince Jammy at King Tubby's and released in 1981 as Black Sounds of Freedom.

The 1981 version serves as the inspiration and jump off point for these raw and vibrant new tracks featuring original vocal performances
from Chronixx, Gentleman, Alborosie, Dre Island, Tony Rebel and others. The 10 song collection will be released on CD and vinyl LP.

    1. Peace Treaty Style - Alborosie

    Studio One Dub Volume 2

Studio One Dub 2 is a second collection bringing together some of the finest dubs from the legendary Studio One Records, Kingston, Jamaica. Dub music was the creation of a generation of brilliant recording studio engineers in Jamaica. But although Clement Coxsone Dodd's Studio One is hailed as the greatest of the Jamaican recording labels, and although many talented engineers worked the board at Dodd's Brentford Road studio over the years (including Sylvan Morris, Syd Bucknor, Overton Scientist Brown and Dodd himself), Studio One was never typically known as a centre for dub. This is because for many fans the studio's commercial and stylistic heyday was in the 1960s, prior to the rise of dub as a distinct sub-genre of Jamaican music in the 1970s. By the 1970s, however, dub music was the rage in Jamaica's sound systems. Always the pioneer - and since Sylvan Morris had left the Studio One operation around 1972 - Coxsone supervised the dubs till leaving Jamaica at the end of the decade. This meant that for the most part, for example, the twelve Studio One dub albums released during the 1970s were mixed by Dodd himself, using the moniker Dub Specialist. Throughout the decade, the mixes became more sophisticated and atmospheric. Along with the first volume of Studio One Dub, the cuts here demonstrate that Studio One's contribution to the innovative musical form of dub was substantial, and go straight to the head of listeners who feel that the only centres for dub were studios such as King Tubby's, Lee Perry's Black Ark, Channel One, or Joe Gibbs's. The tracks on this compilation are taken from this period in the 1970s when dub was the cutting-edge of Jamaican music studio production. Most of them are the dub-version flip-sides of rare Jamaican 45s, and none have appeared on CD before. Michael E. Veal, author of Dub: Soundscapes and Shattered Songs in Jamaican Reggae (Wesleyan University Press, 2007).

Once Upon A Time At King Tubby's (Awaiting Repress)

    Never Before Released On Vinyl

All of those things happened up at Tubby's - Bunny Lee

'Once Upon A Time At King Tubby's' captures from start to finish the full story of the most well-known, and certainly the wittiest, of all the wars of words that the highly competitive Kingston recording scene ever produced. I Roy and Prince Jazzbo were the principal players aided and abetted along the way by an assorted bunch of onlookers and minor characters who all helped the drama to unfold. Bunny 'Striker' Lee was the catalyst that started this particular schism and the producer of all but one of the tracks.

Ever the entrepreneur 'Striker' hit the musical jackpot once again as he goaded both artists into making records that went 'straight to the head'. What had begun as a joke grew into an entire series of seven-inch singles that set the Jamaican recording scene alight in the mid-seventies. All but one of the tracks on this set were voiced and mixed at King Tubby's Waterhouse studio; I Roy voiced 'Padlock' at Channel One because the competition a get so crabbit and this gave veteran vocalist Derrick Morgan an opportunity to enter the fray. Johnny Clarke, Dirty Harry and Prince Far I also make cameo appearances.

Insults and 'head' games are nothing new in Jamaican music but this album is the first to ever compile all the tracks from one of the best examples ever of these feuds here remastered and complete with full sleeve notes featuring interviews with the main protagonists.

    Young Prayer

Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, a.k.a. one-fourth of the founding members of Animal Collective, has had a far-from-quiet few years since the release of his fourth solo record, 2011's Tomboy. Since the breakout success of 2007's universally-adored Person Pitch, each new Panda Bear release is a highly anticipated event, and with a high-profile Daft Punk collaboration later, that's more the case than ever. But if the title of his fifth solo album as Panda Bear seems to portend certain doom, think again. Taking his inspiration from '70s dub duo albums like King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown and Augustus Pablo Meets Lee Perry & the Wailers Band, Panda Bear prefers to frame his latest work as less of a battle and more a collaboration. "I see it [as] more comicbooky, a little more lighthearted," he says. "Like Alien Vs. Predator." Young Prayer is the second full-length solo album by Panda Bear. It was recorded in Panda Bear's childhood home in 2002 by Deakin and further produced by the mysterious Animal Collective brothers known as Come Winter. It was originally released in 2004 on Paw Tracks as PAW2.
