And I Love Her / Sappy (Early Demo)

Single From Cobain's anticipated soundtrack to the documentary Montage Of Heck!

This Limited Edition 7" Single Includes Two Of The Previously Unreleased Selections From The Kurt Cobain Archive That
Are Included On The Full Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings Album

The HBO documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck is already drawing rave reviews on the film festival circuit, including sold-out showings at both Sundance and the True/False fests before its television premiere on May 4th. However, anticipation for the film's soundtrack is about to hit fever pitch as director Brett Morgen revealed that the accompanying album will feature a mind-blowing 12-minute acoustic Cobain unheard track, the filmmaker tweeted.

Rolling Stone talked to Morgen at the Sundance Film Festival, and the filmmaker revealed that the documentary's score is all unreleased Cobain music. They don't have titles. Before people saw the movie, there were these weird press releases focusing on the unreleased music. And it's like: It's a movie. We're not going to stop it and play a song for four minutes, Morgen said. But nobody in Kurt's life - not his management, wife, bandmates - had ever heard his Beatles thing [a snippet of 'And I Love Her']. I found it on a random tape. It's a Paul [McCartney] song. How's that for shattering the myth?

In Utero: 20th Anniversary Edition (2013 Mix)

45 RPM 180 Gram Vinyl Double Album

    Mastered At Abbey Road Studios

    Direct To Metal Mastering

Alternate Artwork Exclusive To This Release

The 20th anniversary of Nirvana's third and ultimately final studio album, In Utero, continues apace, with its 2013 Mix, mastered at Abbey Road Studios,
issued as a 45 RPM 180 gram vinyl double album--cut to copper plates using the direct to metal mastering process, and housed in stunning alternate
    artwork exclusive to this release.

The 2013 Mix finds original producer Steve Albini revisiting In Utero with the blessing and oversight of Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. With an approach
described as more of an alternate snapshot of the same entity than a typical remix or new mix, the 2013 Mix coaxes forth never before heard nuances-
-and including unearthed alternate performances on some tracks--and finds incredible new sonic dimensions of the unwitting swansong of the single most
    influential artist of the 1990s.

Upon its original 1993 release, In Utero was easily the most polarizing record of a generation. The most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt
Cobain, Novoselic and Grohl would ever record, it was also the first record Nirvana would make with any expectations from the public. The In Utero 2013
Mix double vinyl edition offers yet another perspective of the final and perhaps finest hour of Nirvana: of the most incredible yet conflicted rock 'n' roll band
of the era at the peak of its powers surmounting struggles from within and without to make the record they needed to make.

    Nevermind: 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

Ranked 17/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Released in September of 1991, Nirvana's sophomore album and major label debut elevated Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl from a critically acclaimed Aberdeen, Washington, cult band to generational spokesmen who'd unwittingly created a cultural shift and musical touchstone. Rising to #1 the world over by year's end and ultimately selling over 30 million copies worldwide, Nevermind would come to be much more than one of the most successful and influential albums of its or any era. As the album that returned unaffected rock n roll integrity and passion to the top of the charts, Nevermind would prove a singular inspiration to fans and musicians alike over the last two decades, and will undoubtedly do so for generations to come.

Now, on the occasion of Nevermind's 20th Anniversary, Universal Music presents a full spectrum re-release worthy of such a pivotal classic. The reissue makes the most of the occasion, unearthing literally dozens of previously unreleased recordings, obscure B-sides, alternate mixes, radio sessions and studio rarities.

This 4LP 180-gram heavyweight vinyl Deluxe Edition of Nirvanas Nevermind 20th Anniversary reissue features the remastered album, B-sides, the Smart Studio sessions, Boombox Rehearsals and BBC sessions. Included is not only the original remastered album and accompanying studio and live B-sides, but the first full official release of the pre-Nevermind demos recorded at producer Butch Vig's Smart Studios, as well as boombox recordings of subsequent rehearsals through which the listener can actually experience Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, On A Plain and others that take shape before your very ears.

    So Long, Astoria

With a handful of indie releases and a few hectic years of touring under their belts, this release marks the Ataris big-label bow. And if the concept uniting it is an ode to the power of memory--a conceit attributed to Richard Hell, but one that ironically might as well have originated with the likes of Billy Joel--Kris Roe and company blitz their way through it with kinetic power and hooks to spare. But therein lies the rub: Fans will find this an album rife with positive energy, bright, well-constructed songs, and upbeat deliveries (if sometimes in service of awkward intellectual pretensions like Unopened Letter to the World's parallels between Kurt Cobain and no less than Emily Dickinson); cynics may hear at as further evidence that punk and alternative rock have been co-opted in service of formulas as well-honed--and rigid--as anything the dreaded Corp Rock '80s ever yielded. Still, if play-it-to-the-back-rows, unabashed power-pop is what the Ataris were after here, they've delivered it with nigh perfection, right down to a slick, pumped up cover of Don Henley's classic-rock warhorse The Boys of Summer. --Jerry McCulley

The Winding Sheet is Mark Lanegan's 1990 solo debut. It showcases his adept skills as a lyricist and his deep, soulful voice. Highlights include "Mockingbirds," "Ugly Sunday" and the haunting "Wild Flowers." The late Kurt Cobain lends vocals to "Down in the Dark," and for the folk classic "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" Cobain contributes guitar and vocals and Krist Novoselic plays bass. Nirvana would later also cover "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" on their Unplugged album. The album was produced by Jack Endino, Lanegan, and Johnson. With extra track "I Love You Little Girl."

    Celebrity Skin

The 4th album of Hole was a huge commercial achievement, successfully bridging the gap between Grunge and guitar Pop. The band revolving around Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love carved a niche for themselves as the seminal female fronted Grunge group. Established in 1991, the band functioned as a cathartic outlet for enfant terrible Love, which makes their work incredibly compelling. Their 1998 album Celebrity Skin revealed a polished, energetic sound. Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins co-wrote 5 songs on this superb album, among which the title track and "Malibu", both of which were released as singles.

Announcing Overjoyed, the first album in 13 years from legendary punk band Half Japanese. One of the most influential bands of all time, Jad Fair and Half Japanese spearheaded the DIY and Lo-Fi movements, influencing countless bands such as Sonic Youth, Neutral Milk Hotel, Daniel Johnston, and perhaps most notably, Kurt Cobain (who ranked Half Japanese amongst his top 50 favorites, had them open the In Utero tour, and was wearing their t-shirt when he died). Without exaggeration, Half Japanese is one of the most important bands in the history of music. Overjoyed was recorded and produced by John Dieterich of Deerhoof, and ranks amongst the best albums of the band's catalog.

Lake Placid, NY native Lana Del Rey is a throwback singer/songwriter whose stage name combines that of the late Hollywood actress Lana Turner and the Ford Del Rey. Pop's newest femme fatale calls herself the gangsta Nancy Sinatra and cites Kurt Cobain, Thomas Newman and Bruce Springsteen as musical influences. She released an EP entitled Kill Kill in 2009 under the name Lizzy Grant and also recorded a full-length album on an independent label with producer David Kahne, which was released for a brief time before it was pulled due to lack of label support. Born To Die is her highly anticipated official debut release on Interscope Records featuring the viral firestorm hits Video Games and Blue Jeans. Her much talked about appearance on Saturday Night Live on January 15, 2012 marked the first artist since Natalie Imbruglia in 1998 to perform before the release of her debut album.

    Not Dark Yet

Critically acclaimed artists and sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer will release Not Dark Yet via Silver Cross Records / Thirty Tigers. Produced by Teddy Thompson, their first and highly anticipated album together is an extraordinary debut of the pair's transcendent musical bond.

Not Dark Yet was recorded in Los Angeles in the summer of 2016. The album provides a potent look at the sisters' individual and collective artistry through eclectic song choices from writers ranging from the Louvin Brothers, Nick Cave, Kurt Cobain, and back to Jessie Colter. Shelby and Allison wrap their arms around the past, plant their feet in the present, and nod toward what's around the bend with a co-written Is It Too Much, to close out the ten-song set.

Archive From 1959: The Billy Childish Story

Billy Childish has been releasing records, painting, writing poetry and generally doing his own thing for the past 32 years. He first took to the stage back in October of 1977 with the seminal punk garage band The Pop Rivets. They split after two years and from there he joined The Milkshakes along with fellow Pop Riveter Bruce Brand and local lads Micky Hampshire and Russ Wilkins. After that came Thee Mighty Caesars, Thee Headcoats, The Buff Medways and right up to date with his two current ensembles The Musicians Of The British Empire and The Chatham Singers.

The 51 track compilation Archive From 1959: The Billy Childish Story takes a look back at the more rock 'n' roll aspects of Billy's musical career which is why there's no spoken word or poetry and many of its tracks have been unavailable for ages. In amongst these more well known bands are tracks he recorded solo and with other artists like The Delmonas, Thee Headcoatees, Singing Loins and Kyra Rubella.

Over the years Billy has been championed by lots of great bands and musicians including Beck, Mudhoney and Kurt Cobain and more recently by Eddie Vedder and The White Stripes. Even with that praise Billy has been largely ignored by the music press in this country which is really surprising as he has now released over 120 albums.

    Bandwagonesque

Bandwagonesque, the Scottish Teenage Fanclub's sophomore album, was released on two of the most prolific indie labels of the early nineties; Creation in the UK & Geffen in the Unites States.
And as disparate as those two labels might seem, Teenage Fanclub managed to unite the guitar sludge with the infectious melodies of both the budding Grunge and Britpop movements.

It's no surprise that the forerunners of both genres - Kurt Cobain and Noel Gallagher - named Teenage Fanclub the best band in the world. (Alright; Noel Gallagher said they were the second best band in the world).

But despite its massive critical success - Bandwagonesque topped Spin Magazine's end of year list, beating Nevermind, Out Of Time and Loveless - the mainstream didn't follow until a few years later.

Bandwagonesque is filled with incandescent harmonies, lazy yet immediate songs and a laissez faire irony; its classic guitar pop makes it one of the 1001 albums you have to have heard before you die

    MTV Unplugged In New York

Ranked 311/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself, Nirvanas MTV Unplugged is a watershed document that presents a band at the peak of its powers. Unlike any other unplugged affair, the diverse album is not a simple stripped-down regurgitation of greatest hits or a cash-it-in set of nostalgic favorites. Rather, the live effort is among the most emotionally naked spectacles ever released an album so starkly intense and profoundly personal, its impossible not to get chills down the spine.

Made primarily with acoustic instrumentsGrohl even trades sticks for brushes, Krist Novoselic picks up an accordion, and cellist Lori Goldston prominently figures in the arrangementsUnplugged in New York reveals Nirvanas folksier side and clear ambition to move beyond abrasive rock. The setlist is as surprising as the stylistic makeover. Save for renditions of All Apologies and Come As You Are, the adventurous material includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets' Lake of Fire, Plateau, and Oh Me as well as harrowing versions of David Bowies The Man Who Sold the World, and the Vaselines Jesus Dont Want Me for a Sunbeam.

And then there's the heart-shattering climax. Intensely private and disturbingly primal, Nirvana's rendition of the Leadbelly standard Where Did You Sleep Last Night takes its place among the most cathartic songs ever committed to record. Its the musical equivalent of the insides of Cobain's soul being ripped out and put out display for all to see.

Hurry! Do not pass up this chance to own the Nirvana swan song that Rolling Stone named one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!

KoRn are one of the best-selling Nu Metal bands on the planet. Of their 8 studio albums the first seven have been certified platinum. The demise of the band L.A.P.D. was the starting point for KoRn. The remaining members (Reginald 'Fieldy' Arvizu, James 'Munky' Shaffer, David Silveria and Brian 'Head' Welch) were looking for a new singer, found Jonathan Davis, and KoRn was born. The result was 1994's KoRn. The huge amount of time they spent touring paid up, assuring them of a fan base buying their future albums.

Their second album was 'Life Is Peachy' (1996), which reached No.3 on the Billboard charts and achieved platinum-selling status. 'Life is Peachy' continues right from where the debut had left off, but this time around, KoRn would bring some new, refreshing, and quite unexpected surprises to the table, such as in the playful 'A.D.I.D.A.S.' ('All Day I Dream About Sex').

With lyrics that reached out to many post-grunge teens after the suicide of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, backed up by a wall of heavy toned-down guitars and loud in your face hip-hop drumming, KoRn prepared themselves for a worldwide breakthrough that would happen soon after.

Ranked 439/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

A reactionary statement to the phenomenal commercial success of Nevermind, In Utero remains Nirvanas most noisy, caustic, uncompromised, and aggressive album. Its also the bands best, a brilliant combination of contagious hooks, feedback-drenched squalls, bruised beauty, and biting lyrical wit intended to blindside causal listeners with raw emotion, difficult listening, and painful honesty. Rife with medical imagery and references to disease, sickness, decay, and dismay, In Utero is the distraught sound of personal catharsis and unyielding trauma. More revealingly, the record doubles as a haunting foreshadowing of singer Kurt Cobains suicide that took place just months after its release.

Unhappy with the high-gloss production and pop-based arrangements on Nevermind, Nirvana set out to make a harsher album that would literally alienate millions. While the trio succeeded in its goal of getting intimate with blistering dissonance and acerbic tones, In Utero resonated with the public, debuting at #1 on the Billboard charts and ultimately selling more than four million copies. Echoing John Lennon, Cobains piercing songwriting spoke to the disaffected masses that shared his anguish and set new standards for ironic depth that still stand. For every unsettling screed (Serve the Servants, Milk It, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, Tourettes) there are introspective moments of folk-inspired elegance (All Apologies, Pennyroyal Tea, Dumb) that hint at the direction in which Nirvana was headed.

In Utero is equally legendary for the controversies involving its production. Originally helmed by Steve Albini, an engineer known for capturing live ambience and natural tones, the album was eventually remixed by Scott Litt after the group complained about the vocal sound. While the exact specifics of what party demanded the redo remain blurry, the finished results are staggering, with the added harmonies, better bass definition, and vocal volume boosts achieving an ideal balance that satisfied the bands wishes. Now, you can hear it like never before.

    Get The Knack

One of the Most Instantly Successful and Highest-Selling Debut Albums in History: The Knack's Attitudinal Get the Knack Loaded With Power Pop, Catchy Hooks, Keen Melodies, and My Sharona

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes, Pressed at RTI, and Strictly Limited to 3000 Numbered Copies: Mobile Fidelity 180g LP of Get the Knack Teems with Abundant Energy

Most everyone knows The Knack's Get the Knack because of the ubiquitous smash My Sharona, a contagious hit that still plays countless times everyday on radio stations nationwide. But the appeal and significance of the Los Angeles quartet's 1979 debut extend far beyond the career-making single. Loaded with tight power pop, hummable hooks, blunt lyrics, and precision playing, the controversy-igniting Get the Knack resonates with an ageless freshness that's influenced everyone from Kurt Cobain to modern indie artists such as the Mountain Goats.

Mastered from the original master tapes, pressed at RTI, and strictly limited to 3000 numbered copies, Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP of Get the Knack brings the record's urgent harmonies, keen melodies, bell-clear tones, and snapping percussion out of the shadows and into the limelight. Graced with large-scale frequency extension and ample separation, the Knack's feisty music now teems with added energy, body, and immediacy. Absent the dynamic compression that squelched previous reissues, this numbered limited-edition audiophile analog version blossoms with detail, openness, and brashness. A guilty pleasure to some and new-wave classic to many others, Get the Knack is so attitudinal it spawned one of the industry's most famous backlashes.

Released by Capitol Records after the Knack courted a dozen other offers, the 12-track set remains one of the most instantaneously successful debuts ever made. Aided by tongue-in-cheek marketing, a sly cover-art reference to the Beatles' Meet the Beatles, and Mack Truck-sized refrains that stick in your head for hours, Get the Knack went gold in days and, to date, has sold more than five million copies. The meteoric rise didn't sit well with detractors committed to ripping apart the band for its perceived arrogance (members refused to sit for interviews) and alleged misogynist stance. Needless to say, the boycotting campaigns fell on deaf ears.

Holding down the top of the singles chart for six weeks, and the eventual number-one single on the year-end 1979 chart, My Sharona alone cemented the Knack's position in history. Written by lead singer and guitarist Doug Fieger about his lust for the then-underage 17-year-old Sharona Alperin, who ultimately became his fiancÉe, the anthem's suggestive themes carry throughout the record. Straightforward in its sleaziness and sexuality, Get the Knack pulls no punches about teenage frustrations, boy-girl one-upsmanship, sticky sweet romance, and unrequited passions for the opposite sex.

Teasing, mischievous tracks such as (She's So) Selfish connect with Bo Diddley-inspired riffs and crude, hormonally charged lines that split the difference between manipulation, nastiness, and arousal. The Top 15 hit Good Girls Don't similarly confronts the pent-up carnal desires and libidinous emotions shared by youth of all generations, while That's What the Little Girls Do functions as a sly response. Your Number or Your Name dabbles in related subject matter, with sensitivity and hopefulness added for good measure. It's a perfect mix of agony and ecstasy, fear and confidence.

Shot-through with yearning, every song bursts forth with undeniable catchiness, firecracker release, and sassy style - an approach Rolling Stone rightly says finds the band [winding] itself tighter than a hot pair of disco jeans, then [doing] its best to hold to that energy until its time to explode.

    Melbourne

It's the original rock n' roll fantasy: to be genius, aloof, deserving. To be instantaneously swept from the wings of obscurity into the arms of acclaim. Well, that's what I've heard at least.

But who does this really happen to? Most successful musicians will tell you it's not enough to make brilliant music. You've got to work it constantly, clawing and hustling to get people to the next show, to finance the next record. How pedestrian. How droll. Why can't it just happen?

No, it would seem there are no rock n' roll fairytales anymore. Or are there?

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Jackson Scott, indie's newest prince charming. At the tender age of 20, Scott is already receiving more attention for his forthcoming debut, Melbourne than many musicians get in a lifetime.

When an artist blows up this quickly it's hard to hear their music from an unbiased position. Questions unfailingly arise: What's the deal? Is he really that f-in' good? Did Daddy pay the promo man (remember The Strokes)? Is this guy for real?

So, before we go on, let me just say, this record is good. Like, really good. Like, "I'm kinda freaked out that a kid who's been making music for a year did this by himself on a 4-track" good.

So, let's ignore the hype for a while.

First, the strength of Scott's songwriting is undeniable. Yea, there are some instrumentals here... but overall these songs stick with you. They have power, and with most of them clocking in at around the two minute mark, you won't get bored. Lyrically, Scott both flirts with and repudiates the kind of adolescent moodiness associated with the mopey 90's. Conversely, his musings also betray a connection to the well-fed and perpetually distracted iPhone generation.

Melbourne also offers plenty of rewards in its production. Scott has the hissy, tape, psych-pop thing down. He's experimental where he needs to be and hooky where it counts. These homespun recordings sound like early Ty Segall as produced by The Elephant 6 Recording Co. While Scott acknowledges Segall as an influence, he claims ignorance of the famed recording collective. That said, his misanthropic use of sped-up vocals suggests otherwise.

Melbourne opens with "Only Eternal", a wash of ambient guitar. This brooding intro slyly transitions into "Evie", with its sludgy, driving rhythm, Twilight Zone guitar hooks, and wavering harmonies. Peppy and short, "Sandy" is a druggy acoustic-pop highlight.

"That Awful Sound" is the song that gained Scott so much attention in the first place. Nothing if not a solid single, its strummed acoustics, booming rhythm, and pseudo-Chipmunk vocals are impossible to hear without thinking of Elephant 6. It's not surprising that the crew at Pitchfork (no doubt approaching middle age and feeling a little nostalgic) picked this track to be "the song". This kind of thing ruled all hell in 1998. If not the best track on the record, it is at least the most classifiable, and by extension the most marketable.

"Any Way"... is the high-water mark for Scott's pitch-shifted vocals. It's the kind of song Jackson Scott really sells. It's quick, melody driven, and vaguely flippant. With its toy marimba solo, it also exposes the childlike undercurrent running throughout this record.

"Together Forever" is one of my favorite songs on Melbourne. If you listen closely you can hear the famous background vocals from "Where is My Mind?" at the beginning. To me this is Jackson Scott playing it straight. His voice sounds like a real person and his noisy guitar swells are just as mind-bending as anything coming out of the current psych-revival.

"In The Sun" is reminiscent of the late Scott Miller's more stripped-down moments with Game Theory. The song's chorus reminds us of how much an inspiration Kurt Cobain is to Scott.

Notwithstanding the strength, charisma, and raw talent exhibited on Melbourne, it feels like Jackson Scott has skipped a few levels. Although Cinderella sometimes does well in sports and American Idol, Jackson Scott is going for something much weightier, much deeper. Dare we call it, legitimacy?
