    Full Circle Nightmare

Ever since his debut album Dolls of Highland was
released on Sub Pop in 2016, Kyle Craft has been
a critic's dream. Based in Portland, he serves up
all the observational, storytelling talent with none
of the attitude that so often comes with male
singer-songwriter territory. "I've found my place,"
he says. "I'm not one of those people that
approaches music for anyone other than myself.
My favorite part about music is when it's just me
and a notebook." Speaking of, his second
forthcoming album Full Circle Nightmare is
    entirely autobiographical. Sonically, thematically,
lyrically, it's a huge leap forward from his 2016
    release.

The title Full Circle Nightmare refers to a moment
where Craft saw his life for what it is and told
himself to be satisfied. "But that's nightmarish to
me," he laughs. He described his debut record as:
"like walking down this long hall of bizarre
    characters and surreal experiences, moving
through the spider web of love and loss." This
album is when you get to the end of that hallway,
turn around and see all the stuff you've been
through, then walk through the door, close it and
start a new chapter in an even crazier hallway. A
straight-up rollicking rock'n'roll album, it traverses
all the different nuances of the genre; from the
bluegrass twang of 'Exile Rag,' to the gothic style
of 'Gold Calf Moan,' it's a timeless piece that could
exist in any of the past five decades.

In terms of contemporary peers, Craft likes to stay
in his own lane. He's an old soul who sticks to his
tried and tested influences. Social media is not
his game - it's just not interesting to him. He's not
fussed about preaching his politics or discussing
the status quo either. "I don't really like writing a
time piece. I don't wanna get trapped in the
'Donald Trump era of Kyle Craft,' you know? I'm a
very off-the-grid sort of person. As much as I am
traveling across this giant place sometimes I just
feel so outside of it. Also, I'm not necessarily a
stand-up citizen so it's hard for me to say: here's
Kyle Craft's America, ladies and gentlemen."
The ironic thing is that Full Circle Nightmare
sounds exactly like Kyle Craft's America. That is
what he's built for us: the story of one man's trials
and tribulations to find his passion and voice for
art and creativity in this vast opportunistic
country. Where did he find it? Among the historic
riches of America's most honest sounds.

    Dolls of Highland

Kyle Craft grew up in a tiny Louisiana town on the
banks of the Mississippi, where he spent most of his
time catching alligators and rattlesnakes instead of
playing football or picking up the guitar. He's not the
product of a musical family, and bands never came
through town. It was only a chance trip to K-Mart that
gave him his first album, a David Bowie hits compilation
that helped inspire him eventually to channel his
innate feral energy into songwriting and rock and roll.
That self-made talent drives every note of Dolls of
Highland, Craft's exhilarating, fearless solo debut.
"This album is the dark corner of a bar," he says. "It's
that feeling at the end of the night when you're
    confronted with 'now what?'"

Craft knows the feeling well--Dolls began to take shape
when everything he took for granted was suddenly over,
including an eight-year relationship. "All of a sudden I
was left with just me for the first time in my adult
life," he says. He ventured far away from the ghosts of
his home in Shreveport, Louisiana to make a new life
for himself in Portland, Oregon, living under a friend's
pool table while he demoed new songs and tried to
    determine what came next.
The album was tracked at a home studio in Shreveport,
where Craft briefly returned for an intensely-productive
reckoning with his past. "I dedicated the album to
Shreveport and called it Dolls of Highland for all the
girls and ghosts in town who influenced it so strongly."
Craft then returned to Portland, where Brandon
Summers and Benjamin Weikel of The Helio Sequence
helped move the album from its DIY beginnings to a
more fully realized work. Craft played most of the
instruments on the album, and the record captures the
    power of his live performance.

    And then there's Craft's unforgettable voice - "I'm
fully aware that I have a very abrasive, very loud voice,
but Bob Dylan is the one that taught me to embrace
that," says Craft. Craft's talent and singular creativity
move the conversation into new and unpredictable
places. And this album is very much about moving
forward. "After everything fell apart, it didn't take very
long for me to learn who I was and what I should be
doing," says Craft, who is walking out on the other side
    with Dolls of Highland.

    Nature Noir

Crystal Stilts first came to attention with a self-titled eP in 2005 and 2008's Alight of Night, an early ripple in what would soon be perceived of as a wave of fuzzy, reverb-laden bands memorably dubbed "Jangle-Schrammelpop" by one German reviewer. The intervening years have seen the band grow and evolve, with 2011's robust In Love With Oblivion, and the Radiant Door eP, their debut release for Sacred Bones.

Founded by vocalist Brad Hargett and guitarist JB Townsend, Crystal Stilts have since come to include Andy Adler on bass, Keegan Cooke on drums, and organist Kyle Forester. Together the five-piece have crafted the band's latest lP, Nature Noir. Recorded in the damp spring of 2013, this newest disc finds the group expanding their palette to include strings, percussion, and synthesizers, to create a record that is both more sonically adventurous and a more personal and humane statement than their previous work.

On tracks such as "Star Crawl" and "Sticks and Stones", Hargett's vocals have a striking clarity and soulfulness, while the musical arrangements throughout display a sophistication that may be surprising to those who previously thought of the band as "lo-fi". Meanwhile, album opener "Spirit in Front of Me" and the ripping "Future Folklore" showcase the psychedelic grit that has long been a trademark sound.

Pianos Become The Teeth are from Baltimore, Maryland; the band made waves on the
scene with their 2009 debut Old Pride and gained national attention with 2011's The
Lack Long After. Their third album and Epitaph debut, Keep You, sees the band taking a
brave step forward to craft a musical statement that truly transcends genres. "There's
still the same amount of passion and energy inherent in this record, it's just presented
in a different way," frontman Kyle Durfey explains. The immediately noticeable difference is Durfey's vocal approach that sees him traded the throat-gutting screams of
the band's early releases with cleaner, more intelligible vocals. However anyone who
has followed the band's trajectory-specifically the song "Hiding" from their 2013 split
with TouchÉ AmorÉ-can trace the way the band's sound has evolved from a melodic
screamo act to a group that create heaviness and weight via raw emotion instead of
distortion and dissonance. Capturing the band's creative vision this time around, producer Will Yip (Circa Survive, Braid) enhances the band's new vision, bringing out harmonies and swelling strings that compliment these songs in exciting ways that even the
band couldn't initially predict . "I think it's a musical growth not a departure," Durfey
summarizes. "I wouldn't say we would never make another overtly aggressive record
again but this is the record we wanted to make."

    Dub Egg

Following up on last year's acclaimed limited-edition LP for Mexican Summer, the Austin-based quartet The Young (guitarist/vocalist Hans Zimmerman, bassist Jason Costanszo, guitarist Kyle Edwards and drummer Ryan Maloney) make their proper debut with a crafted, explosive record best summed up as "classic Matador meets classic rock."

After a year sharing the stage with Sic Alps, Kurt Vile, Pierced Arrows, Endless Boogie and other masters of modern rock guitar, their meticulous interplay has become both uncanny and unstoppable. Dub Egg is a shimmering, incandescent approach to classic forms that nobody could have imagined from these guys a couple years ago. The album carries echos of Crazy Horse, Television, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Dream Syndicate as well as the aforementioned.

Recorded in a woodland cabin, all-analog and self-produced, this exceptionally beautiful sounding rock album, to be released on Matador Records, is the sort of expansive, guitar masterclass (never at the expense of terrific songs, mind you) they've only hinted at previously.

    Hunger And Thirst

Kyle Morton sings the first line of Typhoon's Hunger & Thirst, I've started a new beginning... suspiciously like the old one, only this time, I'm ready, with the bravery and trepidation of someone who is staring down a familiar path, with all its known challenges and potential pitfalls, surrounded by his dearest longtime friends. Fittingly, producer Paul Laxer recorded Hunger & Thirst in Morton and his bandmates' beloved old Victorian rental house. The lease was about to be up; the landlady was about to be back from Korea - all 12 band members knew their time there was limited, that they were crafting an aural snapshot using room mics and dining rooms. That house can be heard all over the record if you're listening for it, spaciously framing Typhoon's lush, well-edited orchestration, its wood floors perfectly warming Morton's empowered, concerned, delicate vocals in a way that any studio environment would be hard-pressed to capture.

These are songs about striving for what you want, then realizing that once you have it, you don't want it anymore; that maybe that elusive thing was never really the issue anyway. Morton sings about the searches, in all their permutations, the bruises healed by those important to you, impermanence, joy, and finding peace within the incessant desire that has always been man's burden. He sings with strength and hope about renewal (Starting Over), with the entire band in gospel-chorus about confronting and progressing (the .47 second The Mouth of the Cave) and with brutal honesty about struggling with a lifelong illness (The Sickness Unto Death). Everyone has their own unique path to follow, and Hunger & Thirst is a record that should remind us of the preciousness of exploration, the value of those we meet along the way, and the power within that sustains us on our quests.

    Bad Blood

US Version Includes Three Bonus Tracks

Bad Blood, the full-length debut from Bastilleis released by Virgin Records. Bastille is the top-selling debut act of 2013 in the U.K., where Bad Blood entered the albums chart at No. 1 earlier this year and has remained in the Top 20 ever since.

The U.S. version of the album will include three bonus tracks - "The Silence," "Weight of Living, PT. I" and "Laughter Lines."

Bastille will made its U.S. television debut on "Conan" July 24. The U.K. band played a sold-out show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles and will return to the States in the fall of 2013 for its first North American tour.

Haunt, Bastille's four-song EP debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart after being released digitally. "Pompeii," the lead single, is already Top 20 at Modern Rock, and has been added by numerous stations, including KROQ-Los Angeles, 98/7-Los Angeles, Live 105-San Francisco, Q877-Chicago, KTCL-Denver, WRFF-Philadelphia, KTBZ-Houston, DC101-Washington DC and SiriusXM's Alt Nation. The "Pompeii" video has more than 30 million views.

Dan Smith, the founder of Bastille, envisioned the "Pompeii" clip as the novel I Am Legend if it were shot by the director of Drive, which hints at how inextricably intertwined music, film and literature are in his creative process. Rounding out Bastille's lineup are Will Farquarson, Kyle Simmons and Chris "Woody" Wood. The four musicians have been playing and touring together for more than two years and while each has his main role in Bastille, they effortlessly trade places on vocals, keyboards and percussion. The band's spring 2013 U.K. headline tour sold out immediately, with all 44,000 tickets gone in a day, and they are playing major festivals in the U.K, Europe and Japan this summer. Bastille's performance of "Pompeii" at Glastonbury can be seen here.

While Bad Blood sounds lush, it was actually recorded in a tiny room on limited equipment - apart from a day spent recording strings in the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Smith, working with producer Mark Crew, aimed to approach each song differently.

"I wanted each to be its own story with its own atmosphere which brings in different sounds and elements of production, incorporating aspects of the different genres and styles that I love: hip hop, indie, pop and folk," he explains. "Film soundtracks can be broad and varied, but tied together by the film itself. I hope the album will be something like that, but held together by my voice and the songwriting, each song a scene or part of a bigger picture."

"Pompeii" is an epic in miniature, a conversation between two charred bodies, frozen in time, caught in the ash that engulfed the Roman city of sin while songs like the title track and "Things We Lost in Fire" touch on the changing dynamics of relationships. "'Bad Blood' is an album crafted in one of modern pop's greatest refineries," observed Artrocker, awarding it five stars, while BBC Music said, "Bastille really deliver." Q named "Overjoyed" as "Track of the Day," noting, "[Bastille's] bewitching mixture of softly delivered vocals and glitchy tracks creates an impressive atmosphere."
