Klipsch Heritage La Scala II Floorstanding Speaker

When the La Scala was introduced in 1963, audio pioneer Paul W. Klipsch provided it to Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Winthrop Rockefeller to be used as a public address speaker, and he did use the speaker on a train car during a later campaign.

The fully horn-loaded, three-way La Scala sounded so good, in spite of its raw, unfinished appearance, people were still eager to put it in their homes.

Regardless of the fact that the La Scala II has appropriated a more refined appearance, it still provides the exact same sparkling highs, intense output and unparalleled low distortion bass response as the initial design. It also continues to use the same horn-loaded drivers as the Klipschorn, allowing it to be highly efficient and able to deliver high volumes with undetectable distortion.

    • Fully horn-loaded, 3-way system with a folded-horn 15 woofer, 2 midrange and 1 tweeter compression drivers
    • Capable of extreme output levels with ultra low distortion and astonishing dynamic range
    • Available in a high-quality Black Ash, Cherry, or Walnut wood veneer finish

Available in a range of high-quality wood veneer finishes, including cherry, walnut and black ash, the La Scala II also comes with a grille to cover the mid and high frequency horns. The bass horn cabinet walls are built with 1-inch thick MDF in place of ¾-inch plywood to offer more support, reduce resonance and provide cleaner bass response.

Callas at La Scala (Studio Recital)

Coinciding with the new Callas Live Remastered Edition, the catalog's 2017 priority, Warner Classics re-releases two of Maria Callas' legendary studio recitals on vinyl, using the state of the art remastering done in 2014.

Callas first sang at Milan's legendary La Scala for the opening of the 1951-52 season (in Verdi's I vespri siciliani) and she became closely identified with the theater, notably in productions directed by Luchino Visconti and his protÉgÉ Franco Zeffirelli. Spontini's La vestale was staged for her there in 1954, Bellini's La sonnambula in 1955, and her final La Scala performances came in 1962 with Cherubini's Medea.

Callas at her most spell-binding and enthralling, wrote Gramophone, Callas at La Scala ( ) shows the diva at her most exciting and most beautiful.

Verdi: La Traviata (1953 - Studio Recording) (Awaiting Repress)

Violetta, the most complex and fully-rounded of Verdi's heroines, was one of the roles that defined Maria Callas as an artist. She performed it more than 60 times between 1951 and 1958, most famously in Luchino Visconti's production at La Scala in 1955/56. It is often said that the role demands a different kind of voice for each act, and, when she made this recording for the Cetra label in 1953, Callas offered youthful, ringing power complemented by coloratura prowess and the capacity for great delicacy.More than 60 years on, her characterization, in its subtlety and truth, still sets the standard for La Traviata.

Callas Portrays Verdi Heroines (Studio Recital)

Coinciding with the new Callas Live Remastered Edition, the cataloger's 2017 priority, Warner Classics re-releases two of Maria Callas' legendary studio recitals on vinyl, using the state of the art remastering done in 2014.

This recital brings together three operas from the earlier years of Verdi's career (Nabucco, Ernani and Macbeth) and one of his greatest mature masterpieces (Don Carlo). Callas sang all of them on stage apart from Ernani, and Lady Macbeth proved a triumph for her when she opened La Scala's season in December 1952.

Gramophone greeted this recital by saying: Mme Callas has seldom had such a field day and her dramatic instinct is well-nigh perfect in interpreting these wonderful pages, each characterized convincingly - and differently.

    1. Macbeth, Act 1: Nel dì della vittoria ....Vienil t'affretta (Lady Macbeth, Chorus)
    2. Macbeth, Act 2: La luce langue (Lady Macbeth)
    3. Macbeth, Act 4: Una macchia è qui tuttora (Lady Macbeth, Doctor, Woman)
    4. Nabucco, Act 2: Ben io t'invenni ... Anch'io dischiuso un giorno (Abigaille)
    5. Ernani, Act 1: Surta è la notte .... Ernani! Ernani, involami (Elvira)
    6. Don Carlo, Act 5: Tu che le vanità (Élisabeth)

    Mad Scenes

A few months after the release of the new Callas Live Remastered Edition, Warner Classics continue to release her legendary studio recitals on vinyl, using the state of the art remastering done in 2014. Mad Scenes (1958)Maria Callas did not make complete studio recordings of Donizetti's Anna Bolena and Bellini's Il pirata (these two operas are both available in the new Callas Live Edition), though, as the queen of La Scala, she enjoyed triumphs in both roles in 1957-1958. The vocally and dramatically demanding final scenes of both operas feature in this recital with OphÉlie's mad scene from Ambroise Thomas's Hamlet, another coloratura extravaganza. When this recital first appeared in 1959, Gramophone wrote: 'This is a most remarkable record, not only for its material but for its astonishing vividness and dramatic poetry It has been a thing of much wonder for me.'
    1. Anna Bolena, Act 2: Piangete voi?...Al dolce guidami castel natio (Anna Bolena, Smeton, Lord Percy)
    2. Hamlet, Act 4: A vos jeux mes amis (OphÉlie)
    3. Il pirata, Act 2: Oh! s'io potessi (Imogene)
