    L.A. Woman: The Workshop Sessions

    L.A. Woman: The Workshop Sessions features eight never-before-heard versions of songs from the Doors' 1971 album and a never-before-heard song, She Smells So Nice, which captures the band joyfully barreling through a full-throttle original before segueing into the blues standard Rock Me. As the song closes, Jim Morrison can be heard chanting, Mr. Mojo Risin, an anagram of his name that was made famous during the bridge of L.A. Woman. The track was recently discovered by producer Bruce Botnick while reviewing the L.A. Woman session tapes.


    Alternate takes of The Changeling, Love Her Madly, Cars Hiss By My Window, L.A. Woman, The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat), Been Down So Long and Riders On The Storm offer a fresh view on this landmark release, which was the group's last album and sixth straight Top 10.


    The studio chatter between songs is a revelation, transporting listeners to The Doors' West Hollywood rehearsal space where they recorded the album with Botnick. One segment in particular captures a fascinating moment of inspiration when Morrison suggests they add the now iconic thunderstorm sound effects to the beginning of Riders On The Storm.


    This 180g 2LP edition of LA Woman: The Workshop Sessions is presented on three sides of vinyl, with the fourth side featuring a laser etching of the original Electric Woman art included with the album's original 1971 release.

    Analogue Productions presents all six of the Doors studio titles on 200g 45RPM 2LP pressed at Quality Record Pressings as well as The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun and L.A. Woman on Hybrid multi-channel SACD, all cut from the original analog masters by Doug Stax, with the exception being The Doors which was made from the best tape copy available.


    Sax and the Doors producer/engineer Bruce Botnick have gone through a meticulous setup to guarantee a positively stunning reissue series. These masters were recorded on all-tube equipment, and the tape machine used for the transfer of these releases is also a tube machine, as is the cutting system.


    Although most of the material for their 1967 sophomore album was written around the same time as their debut which was released earlier in the same year, the songs on the genre-bending Strange Days still manage to possess their own distinct and foreboding character. The equally as impressive follow-up yielded the touchstone hits "Love Me Two Times" and "People Are Strange" as well as the the fan favorites "Moonlight Drive," "Strange Days" and "When The Music's Over." Here on 200g 45RPM 2LP.

    After The Doors finished recording L.A. Woman in 1971, Morrison moved to Paris, France. In the meantime, the three other members stayed behind in Los Angeles where they worked on music for what would be The Doors' seventh studio album. When the legendary singer passed away on July 3, 1971, the trio agreed to continue on, using those songs as the basis for OTHER VOICES, with Krieger and Manzarek now sharing vocal duties. Released in 1971, the album featured the two singles Tightrope Ride and Ships w/ Sails.

    You're A Very Lovely Woman

    Among folk-rock devotees and power-pop cultists, Emitt Rhodes is a legendary figure with a powerful mystique. The prodigiously talented singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist first came to prominence as the teenaged leader of The Merry-Go-Round, a unique L.A. baroque folk-rock quartet whose lone 1967 album is now regarded as being in the same class as the debut discs of such 60s contemporaries as the Byrds, Love, the Left Banke and the Buffalo Springfield.


    The Merry-Go-Roundwhich also included guitarist Gary Kato, ex-Leaves bassist Bill Rinehart and former Grass Roots drummer Joel Larsonscored an early hit with the infectiously jangly Live. The song (which would be covered in the 80s by the Bangles) became a major regional hit in the Los Angeles area. Lives equally distinctive B-side, Time Will Show the Wiser, was covered the following year by Fairport Convention. The bands second single, the bittersweet, orchestrated Youre a Very Lovely Woman, was an equally impressive achievement.


    Those three songs are all featured on Youre a Very Lovely Woman, which offers a consistently intoxicating mix of Beatlesque vocal harmonies, ringing folk-rock guitars, sparkling songcraft and playful baroque and psychedelic touches.


    Although The Merry-Go-Round would disband two years after releasing their only LP, the album has gained steadily in notoriety and prestige over the years. Original copies of the album have become rare collectors items, regularly changing hands for exorbitant prices among fans.


    Now, Youre a Very Lovely Woman is once again available on vinyl to thrill longtime admirers and new fans alike. Mastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on high-quality high-definition vinyl, the album includes complete, meticulously reproduced original cover art.

    It wasn't so long ago that New York-based Japanese duo Cibo Matto (Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda) were simply a fun, gimmicky East Village outfit who performed on Casio keyboards and sang almost exclusively about their favorite foods. As such, the band's major-label debut album Viva! La Woman was sugary, but not really substantive--a clear-cut example of Eastern culture endearingly misinterpreting Western music.


    But Cibo Matto has come a long way since penning songs like Know Your Chicken, Beef Jerky, and Birthday Cake. Stereotype A is a mature, instrumentally rich album that sees the group break the novelty mold and achieve recognition for compelling songwriting and interesting arrangements.     It's been one helluva ride to get here, from Nashville to El Paso and back again, but Frankie Ballard's new Warner Bros. Records/Warner Music Nashville album El Rio is finally being released. With growing anticipation, Ballard is especially excited to hear fans' reactions to some of the new music that no one has heard.


    Ballard has been playing new songs like "It All Started with a Beer" and "Cigarette" from his third LP live, but not every song has made it into the set. "Good as Gold," co-written by Mando Saenz and Justin Bogart, is a track he's especially proud of that fans haven't had a chance to listen to yet.


    "'Good as Gold' is the heart of this record," Ballard said. "Everybody asks, 'What's your favorite song?' I can't pick my favorite, but doggone it 'Good as Gold' is really close to the top. The spirit of this song, the courage in this song is what made me fall in love with it the first time I ever heard it. It's about telling a girl everything you need to tell her all in one moment and not holding anything back. The courage in that inspired me and I hope it inspires other people. It's one of the songs that I'm most excited to see what people think of it, on social media or at shows, or wherever I can talk to people about this album. I'm dying to get feedback.     Love and lust play a huge role in El Rio, alternating between tender tracks like "Good as Gold" and "It All Started with a Beer" to more experiential songs like "Cigarette" and "LA Woman," another new song Ballard is excited to unveil.

    For One To Love

    CÉcile McLorin Salvant, the wildly talented 25-year-old singer, songwriter, visual artist and illustrator, became a breakout star with 2013's 'WomanChild.' Her follow-up, 'For One To Love,' is a courageous statement of contrast: love and longing, delight and desire.


    CÉcile composed five original songs for 'For One To Love.' Each of these tunes explore the album's underlying themes and display CÉcile's strong personality, sharp intellect, coy humor, unfettered romanticism, and penetrating honesty. The thematic elements continue to grow with a smoldering take on Burt Bacharach's bygone Wives and Lovers and Growlin' Dan by Blanche Calloway, the first woman to lead an all-male orchestra. What's The Matter Now, originally popularized by Bessie Smith, is a juxtaposition of feel versus subject matter: a plea for fair treatment enclosed in a playful blues. Le Mal De Vivre, written by French singer Barbara in 1966, is a stark ballad performed by CÉ cile in French.


    'For One To Love' is a riotous showcase for this riveting voice: quivering highs and soul-shaking lows, all delivered with grace and style. Salvant has reunited with decorated young pianist Aaron Diehl, joined by his trio of Paul Sikivie on bass and Lawrence Leathers on drums. Together this ensemble swings and swirls, nimbly hanging on CÉcile's every cry, snarl and coo. A gifted illustrator, CÉcile accents the albums poignant music with original artwork.


    CÉcile was born in Miami, Fl and studied French law, baroque and jazz vocal performance in Aix-En-Provence before winning the 2010 Thelonious Monk competition. 'WomanChild' was praised by the NY Times, NPR, won Downbeat's Album of the Year and earned CÉcile her first Grammy nomination. She now lives in Harlem. An extensive international tour is planned through 2015 including performances at the Newport Jazz Festival, Hollywood Bowl, La Villette (Paris) the Johannesburg Joy of Jazz Festival and London Jazz Festival.

    In 1974, the good folks at Epic Records compiled an amazing
    overview of Spirit's most memorable and fan driven favorites simply
    titled The Best Of Spirit. This collection featured the brilliant and sorely
    missed vocals and guitar work of Randy California, the rockin' lead
    vocals of Jay Ferguson, the driving bass and vocals of Mark Andes,
    the powerful drums of the late great Ed Cassidy, plus the keyboard
    wizardry of the late John Locke.


    This mammoth collection had something for everybody as it culled
    tracks not only from the four superior albums on Ode and Epic Records,
    but it also included the rare hit 45 single 1984. Therefore, a good
    majority of the hits and definitive Spirit tracks are included on this career
    compendium of songs which will forever stand the test of time.
    Their most familiar songs from The Twelve Dreams Of Dr.


    Sardonicus and The Family That Plays Together are featured with tracks

    Beyond The Bloodhounds

    Adia Victoria spent the last few years writing, recording, touring and performing, while entrenched in the infamous artist R&R world - restaurants and retail work. Day jobs at a laundry list of Nashville it and not so it spots gave the musician lots of people watching time as well as the mental and emotional space to marinate in her art.


    Adia blows the social hush-hush lid off the mental and emotional state of a young black woman growing up under the poverty line in the Deep South and all the implications of such. No pretense. No jive. But also, like the writing of Eudora Welty and Tennessee Williams, there is plenty of Southern Gothic styled, marrow deep joy.


    In a recent feature story, Fader encouraged us to, Meet Adia Victoria, A Poet Making Country Music a Little Creepier. She is found in album cuts like Sea of Sand and Stuck in the South, revealing some of her place-based aha moments. In the latter, she notes, I don't know nothin' about Southern belles/ But I can tell you something about Southern hell. As songs like Head Rot, and first single Dead Eyes show us, Adia says, it's an album of falling in love, dealing with loss, confusion, anger, love, and loving myself.


    Produced by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Sleater Kinney) and the artist herself, recorded at Nashville, Tennessee's Haptown Studios, Beyond the Bloodhounds features the indelible lyrics, voice, and guitar solos of Adia Victoria along with a band of talented musicians including Tiffany Minton (Drums), Alex Caress (keys), Mason Hickman (guitar), and Jason Harris (bass). She recalls, the studio is a Music City treasure. It used to be a car repair shop. You walk in and there are no windows. It's dark and moody. It feels like walking into the mind.


    The result of a lifetime of introspection and a younger self marked by silent observation, Adia Victoria's Beyond the Bloodhounds was three active, recording years in the making. The title pays homage to a line in Harriet Jacobs' Narrative in the Life of a Slave Girl.


    Ultimately, Victoria's debut album is more both/and, than either/or. The complexity of her Southern, barrel-aged roots and world traveling, bookworm woman ways will lure you out of the status quo.

    The DAVE STEWART-produced SPITBALLIN' would never have happened if not for one Twitter message that turned STEWART's world upside down. STEWART has seen and done it all, but none of it prepared him for what he would hear from THOMAS LINDSEY. "I read it and clicked on the link," STEWART recalls. "And there he was, singing something on a YouTube video. I don't remember what it was but there was no music. He was singing a cappella. And I went, 'Holy crap!'" STEWART got in touch with his young admirer and invited him to send examples of his original material.


    "It was really amazing stuff. So I asked if he wanted to come out to Los Angeles and sing three songs unaccompanied before my show at the Troubadour," STEWART says. Following their live debut, STEWART and LINDSEY began writing together by sending audio files back and forth between L.A. and Louisiana. Working long distance seemed to bring them closer as they built a catalog of songs.


    Their common ground proved as lush as Delta marshland. A down-and-dirty delta guitar riff. A thumping drum beat. And a stunning vocal intro, urgent, haunted, earthy and spiritual, with blues-drenched filigrees, a vibrato that shocks like an electric current, a range that defies not just convention but gravity itself. Backed by STEWART's distorted voodoo guitar licks, LINDSEY opens "Leave This Town" in free tempo and then a swampy groove kicks in--just guitar and drums, raw and wild. "Two People" unfolds over a stomping beat that leads to a long vamp over which Lindsey improvises with hair-raising intensity and finesse. Churchy echoes permeate "When Dogs Run," with a mournful organ providing the backdrop to STEWART's Pop Staples-style guitar tremolo. "Alcohol" boils down to organ and LINDSEY's voice recounting a riveting elegy for someone who was "lost to alcohol."


    Some of the stories behind the lyrics on these songs are sad, but true and some more fanciful. To write "Crocodile," for instance, LINDSEY admits "I tried to write a song that would seem like something from a shoe commercial! I had this image of a woman in bad-ass crocodile boots, walking down the street. That's how that song formed."

    Natalie Bergman has had her picture taken on countless occasions -- hundreds of studio portraits and live shots and backstage festival snaps. But the simple, gorgeous black & white photo of Bergman on the cover of Wild Belle's Dreamland that she describes as just me and this sort of abyss That one was lensed by the person who best knows how to capture her essence on celluloid: Her older brother and bandmate, Elliot Bergman. Besides being Wild Belle's multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, Elliot has an equally impressive flair for visual arts, from painting and sculpture to bronzemaking and photography. An avid collector of vintage cameras, Elliot brought along a recently acquired Polaroid Land Camera to a show Wild Belle played in Denver this summer: The duo grabbed a quick moment at their hotel to take the portraits of each other that grace the front and back of their new record. The pictures Elliot takes of me are always really beautiful and it's because he knows me better than anyone else on this Earth, says Natalie. Adds Elliot: I like that it's a photo of Natalie just being Natalie. And the stark contrast of her in the foreground with the dark background really fit with these collages she has been doing. Natalie is in the light but the shadows are pretty heavy and you can't really tell where she is or what's back there.


    Recorded at studios in their native Chicago, Natalie's new home of Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto, Dreamland -- Wild Belle's bold, evolutionary new album -- derives from an era in the singer's life when she was struggling to get control of what she describes as the anger and deep sorrow that plagued her at the end of her most recent romantic relationship. For a woman whose music has always been inspired by her desire to translate her complicated feelings into immediately relatable songs, there was certainly plenty of grist for the mill. Dreamland tracks such as Losing You and It Was You (Baby Come Back) offer glimpses of the darkness that Natalie battled during the early months writing for the duo's sophomore full-length. But there are also genuine moments of lightness and ecstatic triumph, like Giving Up On You -- an irresistibly kinetic, punk number Wild Belle recorded with TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek producing.


    I was very heated when we were making this record. My body, my heart and my soul were filled with a flame, which sounds very dramatic but it's the truth, says Natalie. I had a healing moment when I moved to LA earlier this year, because I was far away from my ex and I felt like I was getting rid of a lot of baggage. That was the redemptive, triumphant time for my lyrics. On 'Giving Up On You,' I sing: 'Now I smile so bright, you can see me from outer space, look at me shine. Baby it's about time, I was so miserable and now I feel so alive.' All the songs I wrote near the end of making the album have that sentiment: 'Now look at where I am, after all the turmoil that was inside of me, I'm here and I'm happy and I'm ready for whatever comes my way.'


    The follow-up to 2013's Isles, Dreamland expands the band's ambitions in every way. It's deeper, it's more fun, it's more haunting, it's got more grooves, Elliot says. There's sorrow and pain but there's also hope and joy -- all those things can coexist in the songs because they coexist in life. He continues: Dreamland, that's not some kind of idealized notion of where we live and I hope people hear that as a question: What is the Dreamland What is our dream here The album doesn't get overtly political, but we're dealing with a lot of the things that are dark about what's happening now. 'Throw Down Your Guns' is about a relationship but is also kind of about the messed up situation that we're in right now. The chorus, 'Throw down your guns / In the name of love, I put my hands up,' to me can be heard in a number of ways, including as a prayer for peace or a cry out against violence.


    Importantly, the album also shares its name with one of the first songs Natalie remembers Elliot introducing her to: Bunny Wailer's 1970 reggae classic, Dreamland. One year for Christmas, he gave her a compilation of female artists who recorded at Jamaica's legendary Studio One, and it included Della Humphrey's version of the song. Natalie listened to it over and over and over again. I was so in love with it, she says. From there, I started my exploration of rocksteady and ska and lovers rock and anything that had to do with Jamaican music from the Fifties onward.


    The duo started writing music together several years ago, after Elliot took a sixteen year-old Natalie on tour to play percussion with his acclaimed Afrobeat ensemble, NOMO. I can present a song to Elliot and he has this foresight -- he can see things further than I see them, and he helps me realize things, she says. I'd been writing very simple melodic love songs since I was fifteen years old. I definitely have a pop sensibility in my style, and that's a great platform for Elliot to work from, because it's fun for him to have a cool little pop song and combine it with more eccentric sounds and make it into a weird, unique percussive jam. Sometimes he'll bring the jam to me and because we've got this routine together, we can write a song together wherever we are.


    Work on the album began in early 2014, in Chicago. The song that opens Dreamland -- Mississippi River -- was also the first one to come together in the studio. It was sparked by a moment of musical serendipity: The record starts with this pulsing ARP drone, says Elliot, which is a very expensive esoteric nerdy synthesizer that's complicated to program. Natalie and I had this weird, symbiotic thing where I was playing three chords off the ARP and she started playing different three chords on this out-of-tune autoharp she brought over. They were both completely in the wrong key, and yet perfectly in tune with each other. That was like the new bar for the record. It was like, 'Yeah, we're going to put synthesizers and saxophone and kalimbas on these songs, and we're going to have lavish string arrangements if we want to. We were getting comfortable with all of the materials that we love, and being like, 'I love this, so let's do it.


    They tracked several songs at home in Chicago last year, and then at the start of 2015, Natalie packed all of her belongings into the Wild Belle van and drove from Chicago to Venice, California. She rented a house where Elliot joined her a couple weeks later. When I had my place in Venice, Elliot would wake up earlier than I would and start making dope beats, says Natalie. One day he made this ridiculous song, 'The One That Got Away,' and the beat and underlying track were so exciting that it didn't take very long to write. Our friends came over and were jumping on the tabletops, dancing, getting naked because they loved the song so much.


    Playing the new songs at Lollapalooza for the first time with an eight-piece band, says Elliot, I had a feeling onstage that I'd never had before with Wild Belle, where you're part of a sound that's much bigger than you could make on your own. It's this charged-up badass feeling. It's about a groove and rhythmic energy and force and momentum and making a big, dark, deep sound -- something that moves people and makes you want to dance and makes you want to shout. It's tapping into a deeper musicality that I've always been looking for.

    With these soft spoken words on the simply-titled opening track-"Intro"- M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez introduces us to his sixth record and first double disc album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.


    Dauntlessly singing into the void that was left behind since Saturdays=Youth, Gonzalez suddenly surges with overwhelming emotion as the music mounts an invisible precipice. Historically, he softly eased you into his world, introducing you to the lush and radiant spaces between captivating melodies and intimate lyrics, but not this time. Not on this record.


    Graduating from the fuzzy, fumbling emotional cobwebs and draped ambiance of past records, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming careens past its audience. Brazenly stretching out along the horizon, spilling glittery, golden arms of sound across the landscape, it holds your breath hostage without you even noticing you were missing it. If it seemed that Anthony was basking in the sunshine-drenched days of his youth when he released Saturdays in 2008, then it can be said that in 2011, at the age of 30, he is tempestuously charging towards his future with Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.


    Relocating to Los Angeles from Antibes, Gonzalez surrounded himself with players pivotal to completing his childhood dream of a double disc record. Producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and guitarist Brad Laner (from 90s band Medicine) had been hugely influential on Anthony growing up and now were central to the new record's creation.


    "In France there is this show on TV where at the end there is a musical guest who plays one or two songs. I remember one night when I was a teenager being at home watching the best of performances and looking at this crazy bass player with a big afro and thinking, 'Wow this guy is so cool.' "And now I am working with him. It's so intense that thinking about it makes me feel weird. But it's weird in a super good way. Same thing with Brad, I was listening to his music when I was first getting into music and now he's on my album."


    Anthony and Justin met backstage in 2009 at Scotland's T In The Park. Later, "he came to me very genuinely stating that 'he was a fan and that he would love to work with me,'" explains Gonzalez. "I love when people do that because I can tell it's coming from the heart. He was sincere and that's the way I like to work with people."


    Stepping away from his work with producers Ken Thomas and Ewan Pearson on Saturday, Gonzalez freckles his new chapter with signature M83 fingerprints while pushing himself beyond the constricting emotions of a guarded musician. Bored with being frustrated and shy, Anthony is respectful of the precious time given to him and doesn't want to leave behind any regrets, thus thrusting himself into the spotlight vocally. He tests out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream, and each voice clings to us like a dew-heavy spider web at dawn.


    Fans will recognize band member Morgan Kibby, her vocals flirting with the shadowy places in between verses, leaping off the record in spoken word or blending with an adult choir. Morgan will join Anthony on tour but she was never meant to sing as much on this record as she had on pervious projects. Quenching his desire to work with a different person on each record, Gonzalez added LA-based chanteuse Zola Jesus to the mix for the completion of "Intro." "The song was already written but I really wanted a female vocal on it and I was kind of struggling to find the right person, but then I heard her music and it just made sense."


    Where Saturday=Youth is drenched in lustful exploration and hungry adolescent wonder, Hurry Up is decadently cunning and seductive. "Intro" and "My tears are becoming a sea" eerily croon to you, swirling all of the glitter and growth from the past records into an epic swell, mysteriously and dramatically warning you of the impact you are about to experience. "Midnight City" (disc one) and "OK Pal" (disc two) are humid, adrenaline driven dreams unlike anything we have heard from M83 in the past. "Midnight City" adeptly sweeps you through abandoned concrete streets swimming in broken neon light and aggressively pushing and pulsating to synthetic beats. While "OK Pal" catcalls you to a locker full of mapped out Peter Gabriel-esque echoing lyrics, leaving you stranded in a post-apocalyptic landscape. These journeys are about awakening, craving and conquering. Throughout Hurry Up, We're Dreaming Anthony carries the listener to different countries of sound in his own universe, "We didn't need a story, we didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking and we became the stories- we became the places." Drifting away from his previous records and reigned in politeness he unleashes all that he has been dreaming of and yearning for. Even when he takes a second to look back on "Echoes of Mine" the velvety, elderly voice of a woman heartbreakingly tells the story of a girl drenched in the shadows of her youth, knowing she has to grow up.


    Grandiose in scale and inspired by Smashing Pumpkin's revered double disc Melancholy & The Infinite Sadness, Anthony has long had the goal to create his own monumental double disc record. "I saw when I was a teenager that I could dig into it [the album]. It was like a treasure. If I were a teenager nowadays I would try to find something as creative as this album. They had so much to say in their songs."


    Impressed with the juxtaposing sun and moon artwork featured on Melancholy, Anthony focuses in on another natural duality: siblings. The cover artwork mirrors this relationship, featuring a photograph of a little boy with a little girl sitting on a bed. The photograph perpetuates the conversation for the two distinct voices we behind each disc, representing two sides of an overall piece that are almost the same. "I want people to listen to it as two different human beings that are connected somehow, but every song on the album has a secret on the other side."


    Soaring and scraping up against the sky while sharing each uncharted frontier with new collaborators is what M83 does best. Gracefully coming into the next decade of his life, Anthony delivers what makes each record sincere, innocent, and full of joy: he gives us his past and his future.


    "I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It's a compilation of all my previous music together. It's a retrospective of myself."

    Three albums in the novelty has worn off, but Dengue Fever has smartly chosen to keep evolving. While that means their unquestionably unique offering no longer startles, it's no less riveting -- Venus on Earth is at once the band's most accessible and most varied release.


    A recap: when first heard from in 2003 on their self-titled debut, Dengue Fever was like no other band, a bunch of L.A. hipsters fronted by a Cambodian-born woman, Chhom Nimol, who paid homage to that Asian nation's pre-Pol Pot cheesy psychedelic-cum-lounge-surf-garage pop sound of the '60s/early '70s, music obscure enough that only a tiny handful of Americans could honestly claim to have known the first thing about it -- certainly, the source material spun outside of the orbit of the so-called core world music audience.


    By the second album, 2005's Escape from Dragon House, Dengue Fever had tossed in a few more disparate elements, and with Nimol's high-range vocals riding atop this internationalist admixture and a basic alt-rock sensibility as a guiding force (minus the faux alt-rock attitude), Dengue Fever attracted an audience and garnered critical praise. For Venus on Earth, the mainstream beckons, or comes as close to beckoning as it's ever going to for a band as non-mainstream as Dengue Fever.


    Nimol's vocals are as beguiling as ever, Ethan Holtzman's Farfisa organ still swirls, Zac Holtzman's guitars still chime and chunk, and Paul Dreux Smith's drums clang happily along. With horns provided by David Ralicke and bass from Senon Gaius Williams, Dengue Fever has softened some of the rougher edges, injected some serious soul, and added more swing to their thing. Oceans of Venus could be an outtake from the first B-52's album, Clipped Wings a lost Blondie tune, and Woman in the Shoes is just one of the most cuddly pop songs in ages. The groovelicious Nimol-Zac Holtzman duet Tiger Phone Card, a tale of a long distance Phnom Penh-NYC romance, is the pop smash Yoko Ono might have had in an alternate universe.


    Drenched in reverb, soaked in sweat, marinated in some phantom historical moment yet tethered to the now, Dengue Fever is more innovative and resourceful than 99-percent of the bands that receive 99 times the publicity.

    The Doors self-titled 1967 release famously contains some incorrect speed and pitch issues. While there have been "corrected" versions made, in the interests of being historically accurate, this Analogue Productions reissue was cut without speed or pitch correction.


    Analogue Productions presents all six of the Doors studio titles on 200g 45RPM 2LP pressed at Quality Record Pressings as well as The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun and L.A. Woman on Hybrid multi-channel SACD, all cut from the original analog masters by Doug Stax, with the exception being The Doors which was made from the best tape copy available.


    Sax and the Doors producer/engineer Bruce Botnick have gone through a meticulous setup to guarantee a positively stunning reissue series. These masters were recorded on all-tube equipment, and the tape machine used for the transfer of these releases is also a tube machine, as is the cutting system.


    The Doors exploded onto the music scene in 1967 with their epic debut, introducing the world to their unique blend of rock, blues, jazz and flamenco styles arranged around Jim Morrison's deep resonate voice and poetic lyrics. The is widely considered the band's masterwork and it contains some of their most beloved songs, including Break On Through (To The Other Side), Light My Fire, Back Door Man and The End. Here on 200g 45RPM 2LP.
