    Heart Break

Once Lady Antebellum stepped back from the spotlight (and pursued separate creative projects in the interim), the trio found themselves drawn back to collaborate once again. Setting the Florida coast as their backdrop, Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood began putting the pieces together for their upcoming sixth studio album, slowly but surely. Heart Break, anchored by lead single You Look Good', soon unfolded and fueled their new purpose. "When we started working on this record, the goal was to give ourselves some space from the day to day," says Scott in a press release.

She continues, "Surrounding ourselves in a new environment with sunny beaches and warm weather really helped free our minds to focus solely on our art. We took some of our favorite writers and other writers we hadn't worked with before to a new inspiring backdrop, where we were able to just write and soak up the journey. And it was on our first trip in Florida when we wrote 'Heart Break' that we felt it all click."

Lady Antebellum enlists such Nashville songwriters as Nicolle Galyon and Jesse Frasure (who both contribute to the life-changing title track and album opener), Shane McAnnally (on Somebody Else's Heart), Sara Haze (This City, Think About You) and fellow country singer Eric Paslay (on the album's bookend, Famous).

    Ladies Of The Canyon

Joni Mitchell's third release found her moving away from the wistful folk of her debut and Clouds, branching out into the progressive pop and jazz elements that would define her best work. The bright, poppy Big Yellow Taxi, the album's single, is here, as is her epoch-defining Woodstock, a soulful, stirring song about the 1969 rock festival that was later covered by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. But the material on Ladies Of The Canyon is uniformly strong, demonstrating the mature style and vision that made her one of the leading voices of the '70s. Ladies Of The Canyon was Mitchell's first classic album, one that helped pave the way for its watershed successor, Blue.

    Lady Soul

Ranked 84/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Lady Soul is an album by Aretha Franklin, released in 1968. The album was her second R&B chart-topper, the follow-up to Aretha Arrives and included some of her biggest hit singles, Chain of Fools (#2 Pop), and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman (#8 Pop), and (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone (#5 Pop). It eventually sold over a million copies in the United States alone. The album was reissued on Rhino Records in a deluxe edition in 1995.

Lady Soul peaked at #1, #2 and #3 on Billboard's Black Albums, Pop Albums and Jazz Albums charts respectively. The single Ain't No Way (B-Side of Since You've Been Gone (Sweet, Sweet, Baby)) peaked at #9 on the Black Singles chart, and #16 on the Pop Singles chart.

    Lady Wood

LADY WOOD is the long-awaited successor to Tove Lo's landmark debut album of 2014, QUEEN OF THE CLOUDS, and is set for release via Island Records.

Similar to QUEEN OF THE CLOUDS, whose tracks were broken into three intimate chapters ('The Sex,' 'The Love,' 'The Pain') - LADY WOOD will be divided into two chapters: Fairy Dust and Fire Fade. Tove Lo describes them as "the emotional curves I go through when I'm chasing any kind of rush."

Fairy Dust refers to anticipation, as in the seductive slow-jam "Influence" (featuring rapper Wiz Khalifa), and the prowling title track, "Lady Wood". Tove Lo compares that anticipation to "when the adrenaline starts to kick in. It gives you butterflies. It's that tingling sensation of sex." Fire Fade captures the moments when that thrill starts to wear off, as in the swelling, unguarded "Keep It Simple" and the cocksure "WTF Love Is". As she says, "You feel a little bit uneasy. And you really want to chase that first feeling again."

The eponymous stage musical My Fair Lady (1956) got a very successful film adaption in 1964 starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. Based on the original script by Frederick Loewe, the film won eight Oscars and three Golden Globes. Composed by Alan Jay Lerner (lyrics) and Frederick Loewe (music), the songs were performed by both the film cast and guest singers Marni Nixon & Bill Shirley and were supervised by German pianist, conductor and composer AndrÉ Previn.

    Lady In Satin

Billie Holiday is undeniably one of the most influential singers of the twentieth century. As the first vocalist to cite instruments and especially the horns of Louis Armstrong and Lester Young as her main inspiration, she was one of the most relentlessly individual singers of the jazz age, transforming silly Tin Pan Alley songs into jazz standards. But her biography also reads as one of the saddest tales of the modern age. Her talents came at a cost; the price seemed to be a predilection for bad men and an addiction to drugs.

Lady In Satin is the last major recording of Billie Holiday that was released during her lifetime, and it is also the most controversial. Ray Ellis' seem like a harsh contrast to Holiday's broken and fragile voice. Ellis himself was, at first, disappointed by the quality of the recording. It was only after listening more closely that he realized the beauty of these sessions and understood why Billie ranked this album as her favorite. More than any of her other recordings, Lady In Satin calls for an emotional rather than a musical listening.

Lady & Gentlemen, a creative concept album co-produced by LeAnn Rimes, country superstar Vince Gill and successful writer, Darrell Brown, features country classic songs by the likes of George Jones, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings, all sung from a modern females perspective.

Says LeAnn, This album was born out of the memories of when I first fell in love with country music and in reflecting, I realized that almost all of my favorite country songs from back then were sung by men. I am honored to take a step back in time and sing these songs from a woman's perspective and hopefully help reintroduce them to a new audience.

    Lady Sings The Blues

Although Billie Holiday's repertoire covered barely more than a dozen pure blues numbers during the course of her long career from 1933 to 1959, music critics always referred to her as the 'Lady [who] sings the blues'. And that hasn't changed to this day. In truth the recordings she made for Columbia in the Thirties and those for Clef/ Verve between 1953 and 1957 were a highly varied mixture of titles from the American songbook and her own compositions.

Her interpretations were a benchmark against which all aspiring singers were measured. Highly expressive, almost visual ballads went hand in hand with Billie Holiday's life and voice - and only she alone could sing them! Her voice was always embedded in the sound carpet produced by her accompanying musicians: Tony Scott and Paul Quinichette are two names who made their mark on her music in the mid-Fifties, and the rhythm group of Barney Kessel, Kenny Burrell and Chico Hamilton is really first class. The trumpeter Harry 'Sweets' Edison, a long-time friend from the Count Basie Band, sensitively accompanies the singer's mature voice.

Excerpt from George Avakian's notes on the album sleeve:

When planning this album, I had a hellish time trying to choose what I thought were the absolute cream of Billie Holiday. In the course of this wrestling, it struck me that not only were Billie's vocals incredibly perfect, but that I could not remember a single instance of anyone playing a bad solo or even a bad phrase among the hundred or more performances I had to choose from in the golden period of her work. Checking over records (which was almost unnecessary, because I could still remember them almost note for note) was a rather beautiful and somewhat shattering experience. Jazz, a product of so many things - musical evolution, the social scene of a particular time, the economic atmosphere of the moment, what somebody had for breakfast that day - and none of those tings will ever come together again as they did when these records were made.

    Musicians:

    • Billie Holiday (vocal)

    • Benny Goodman, Art Shaw (clarinet)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Recorded at the Electric Ladyland Studios in New York City, in December 1974 in preparation for their first US tour, this sublime Rush performance was given in front of an audience of 8-12 people in the small studio, and thus provides a fine example of this remarkable band's early live sound.

This was also the earliest recording made with Neil Peart on drums, Peart having replaced their former skins-man John Rutsy, a few months before this show. They perform material from their first album and new songs from the soon to be released Fly by Night LP. The show was undertaken to provide a live broadcast for FM Radio, and was transmitted across the airwaves prior to the release of Fly by Night.
We get a rare treat in Working Man, when Alex delivers a guitar solo outside of the normal structure of the song.

Apparently, several mics were set up around the studio, with only a very basic soundboard feed. The result is a very well-mixed sound - so much so, in places it sounds as though its lifted direct from the first album.

Very few modern bands are lucky enough to have such a unique, individual and inimitable style as well as blessed with such an incredible voice at the forefront, so it's very rare that a group representing traditional blues-rock can come along with all these characteristics and whip up such excitement in 2016.

BLUES PILLS contain all these elements to create extraordinary music that sounds original and new but respects those long-held rules of blues and rock and roll tradition. Although, it's the individual characteristics of the band that makes this music electrifying; the steady bass of Zack Anderson, thumping rhythm of AndrÉ Kvarnström, technical and yet improvisational guitar of Dorian Sorriaux and the sensational soaring vocals of frontwoman Elin Larsson that set this band apart.

The psychedelic sounds of the band may hail back to the prosperity of the 1960's and 1970's and it's true their distinctive sound may include a few ingredients of the past; a pinch of late 60's Americana, a sprinkling of blues, a heavy serving of rock 'n' roll, a big squeeze of soul but it's all shaken up into a brand-new cocktail of sound, and served into this heavenly new blend we call BLUES PILLS.

That's why it seems to be a sign of destiny that the stars aligned for this exceptional group to be born in 2011, only one year later the striking, soulful and organic sound of first single 'Black Smoke' was fascinating countless listeners - followed up by the EP "Bliss". When in 2014 the self-titled album was released, the whole genre was turned upside down and BLUES PILLS were charting across Europe and continually selling out larger venues. Now the fans are calling on BLUES PILLS to present their second album "Lady In Gold".

"'Lady Gold' is a character symbolizing death", explains singer Elin Larsson of the intriguing album title. "We wanted to get away from the typical stereotype of the Grim Reaper."

The mystical and dark references of the album title are echoed throughout a lot of the album - there's the ode to the female "Keeper Of The Soul" on spiritual sounding title track 'Lady In Gold' and talks of failed salvation from a deceitful messiah in the soul anthem 'Little Boy Preacher'. There's emotive blues ballads in 'I've Felt A Change' and 'Burned Out' and empowering post-heartbreak tales in 'Won't Go Back' and 'Rejection'.

Similarly to the self-titled debut "Lady In Gold" was produced in Sweden by producer Don Alsterberg and it captures everything that's made them one of the most talked about rock bands of the past few years.

    The Electric Lady (Awaiting Repress)

As she began the audacious task of following up on her acclaimed debut LP The ArchAndroid - an album that topped critic's lists in 2010 all over the world - she took along some trusty, brave companions: the original music producers of The ArchAndroid, Nate Rocket Wonder and Chuck Lightning of Wondaland Productions. And together they crafted a new strain of jamming music they called ish. In the hip hop community, ish is a euphemism for the profane four-letter word for excrement, but as Monáe explains, they set out, like proverbial alchemists, to turn lesser substances into gold.

This entire project was produced by Wonder & Lightning. We set out to make a soundtrack for the Obama era, something that spoke to the beautiful, majestic and revolutionary times that we're living in. The musical language we're speaking now is called ish. In the African-American community, we've been turning left-overs (like chitlins) and social depredation (like poverty) into delicacies and fine art for years. So we just set out to turn the rubbish all around us into something beautiful. Ish is the bowtie on the funk.

From the sound of The Electric Lady, ish is an urgent and dangerous form of dance music, rebel music that forces one to fight, jam, and fall in love. Like on The ArchAndroid, the sonic textures of the album are varied, and the past and present come together to explode and create a mind-blowing future for pop and soul music. For example, wondrous strings reminiscent of Curtis Mayfield and Bernard Herrmann orchestrations abound, Hendrixian guitar solos soar, Outkast-like raps float over punk rock riffs; defiant socially-conscious lyrics extol the virtues of soul-searching and fighting for change, while the funk simply melts your speakers: 808s boom and Prince-like synthesizers squiggle in your earhole, making it veritably impossible to just sit still.

The Lady In The Van is a big screen adaptation of writer Alan Bennett's celebrated memoir, directed by Nicholas Hytner. The film tells the true story of the relationship between Bennett and the singular Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who 'temporarily' parked her van in Bennett's London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. Their unique story is funny, poignant and life-affirming.

Best known for his work in film and television, George Fenton is one of the UK's most successful composers, who has written scores for over 100 films and collaborated with some of the most influential filmmakers. His transition from television to film scoring began in 1982 with Richard Attenborough's biopic Gandhi for which he was nominated, with his collaborator Ravi Shankar, for an Academy Award.

About the work on The Lady In The Van, George Fenton said: ''The Lady In The Van was a unique experience for me, writing a score for a story about someone I actually know ( Alan Bennett) and someone I knew or at least met (Mary Shepherd ). The film not only tells an extraordinary story but also celebrates an extraordinary character - her triumphs and failings. I hope the music in some way belongs to her because music was at her heart. She was a musician, albeit a cantankerous one. In the score I've tried to show both sides. A great opportunity for me certainly and a special occasion thanks to the beautiful playing of the Philharmonia Orchestra The BBC Concert Orchestra and the brilliant pianist Clare Hammond.''

Incontestably one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time, My Fair Lady, which opened at the Mark Hellinger on March 15, 1956 and enjoyed a long run of 2,717 performances, set the standards for its perfect integration of the songs and the plot in a smooth amalgamation of music and drama. The work of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, who adapted George Bernard Shaw's whimsical tale of Pygmalion to the musical stage, it starred a non-singing actor, Rex Harrison, another first, and Julie Andrews in her first major role on Broadway. When its producer, Herman Levin, sought to raise the money needed to bring the expensive show to New York, he found in Columbia Records President Goddard Lieberson a tolerant patron of the arts who, single-handedly, provided the $375,000 capitalization, in exchange for the rights in perpetuity to the original cast album. That recording, along with its companion volume in stereo, cut two years later, has always been one of the biggest sellers in the Columbia catalog.

Welcome Back, My Friends, To The Show That Never Ends - Ladies And Gentlemen

Welcome Back My Friends, To The Show That Never Ends - Ladies and Gentlemen is a 1974 live album by progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer. This was the last ELP release for almost three years while the band took an extended break to recover and pursue some solo projects that eventually ended up on their next release Works Volume 1 in 1977.

The album was recorded during the 1973/1974 Someone Get Me a Ladder world tour. The title of the album comes from the introduction to the performance, itself a paraphrase of the opening line of the song Karn Evil 9: First Impression, Part 2. The welcome back my friends hook was also used by Alan Freeman on some of his radio shows.

Lady, Give Me Your Key: The Unissued 1967 Solo Acoustic Sessions

13 Previously Unissued Solo Acoustic Demos

Remastered From The Original Analog Tapes And Acetate

Booklet Includes In-Depth Interview With Buckley's Lyricist Larry Beckett

In 1967, the face of rock was changing. In that year alone there were debut albums from The Velvet Underground, The Doors, and Pink Floyd, to name a few. The Beatles had combined orchestration with their music-the result was Sgt. Peppers in June, the same month that Tim Buckley recorded Goodbye & Hello.

Buckley was no longer just another singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar; he was drenched in acid-folk tinges of harpsichord and harmonium. Lyricist Larry Beckett embellished Tim's songs with introspective lyrics at times, worldly views at others. It was the first major triumph for Tim as an album artist, partially because there were a remarkable amount of pre-production demos that led to it.

Available here for the first time are these newly discovered master tapes, recorded by Goodbye & Hello's producer Jerry Yester, along with an ultra-rare acetate, found to be in co-songwriter (and best friend) Beckett's possession.

Of the 13 previously unreleased solo acoustic songs contained here, six of them did eventually appear with more expansive instrumentation on Goodbye & Hello (along with another four not included here). However, the crown jewel of this package is seven never-before-heard compositions. These will be new to even the most devoted Buckley fan. Arguably, two of them crept out decades after Tim's death (albeit, much different recordings than what you have here) but with little fanfare.

So much has been written about Tim Buckley but so little of it by people who actually knew him. This booklet, however, includes a detailed interview with both Larry Beckett and Jerry Yester, providing real insight on how these recordings came to be and attempting to uncover the man behind all the myths, the real Tim Buckley.

Several rarities releases in the 1980s and '90s shed light on his talent, especially the live recordings, but all of the studio material has generally been alternative versions of songs that fans already knew-until now. This is the first-ever posthumous release that reveals a wealth of previously unreleased and unheard tracks from Tim at the peak of his career. In short, you need this!
