    Caminando

After an exploration away from the mainstream of salsa that would last nearly ten years, beginning with the release of 1984's Buscando AmÉrica, RubÉn Blades fans who missed the coro-shouting, compana-banging fun of his Fania years will rejoice in Caminando. Though a contemporary release, with plenty of contemporary influence, Blades' playlist on this record is much more salsa than fusion. From the rollicking, joyful title cut, to the slinky, trombone-driven Colón-esque Prohibido Olvidar, the RubÉn Blades made famous in the dancehalls is back, if but for a short time. The production on Caminando is unique to other Blades productions. The treatment of his voice has a hollow, retro quality that is curious and yet charming. The band, comprised mostly of his recent Seis del Solar cohorts, Ralph Irizarry, Robby Ameen, Oscar Hernandez, Eddy Montalvo, and others, sounds warm and classic. Perhaps it is the tonality of the record, or maybe 1991 was a great year for writing, but nearly every selection features coros and hooks that are more top-of-the-lungs shoutable than anywhere else in the artist's huge catalog. Though Blades would soon return to the Latin fusion experimentation that would characterize the rest of his career, this brief return to the music that made him famous is pure gold.

Latin GRAMMY nominees Kinky's new album 'Sueño de la Maquina' was produced and mixed by legendary Dust Brother, John King, who has produced Beck, Rolling Stones and Beastie Boys. The album was mastered by Howie Weinberg, whose credits include iconic albums like Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Nirvana's Nevermind and U2's Pop.

More than 10 years ago, Kinky submitted a demo to the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), where they ended up winning the conference's prestigious LAMC Discovery Contest. At LAMC, Kinky first connected with British producer Chris Allison (The Beta Band, Coldplay) and recorded their self-titled debut album, which was received with rave reviews from both international and domestic press. The album featured massive hit songs such as "Mas" and "Soun Tha Mi Primer Amor".

Kinky's music has been featured in numerous soundtracks, TV commercials (Motorola, Smirnoff Ice, Nissan, Honda), and video games like EA Sports
'FIFA and Tiger Woods' PGA Tour. The band's popularity is palpable in each of its concerts. Their popular live shows have allowed the band to tour around the world, performing at Coachella, New Orleans' Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, Bumbershoot, Outside Lands and many more.

Stan Getz / Cal Tjader Sextet

This Newly Reissued Vinyl Addition Is A 'Must Have' Title For For Both Getz And Tjader Fans.

In the vein of many a smooth West Coast jazz outing, this 1958 disc finds original cool stylist Getz paired with vibraphonist Cal Tjader on a very enjoyable
selection of jazz standards and Tjader originals. The lineup includes pianist Vince Guaraldi, guitarist Eddie Duran, bassist Scott La Faro, and drummer
Billy Higgins (this was one of the earliest record dates for either La Faro or Higgins, both of whom were playing with Getz at San Francisco's Black Hawk
in between recording sessions). Guaraldi's spry Ginza Samba kicks thing off with nimble and imaginative statements by all the soloists. Tjader's
swinging originals Crow's Nest and Big Bear provide prime solo vehicles as well, while his lovely waltz number Liz-Anne adds some nice contrast to
the set, eliciting one of Getz's best solos in the process. The group rounds things out with fine ballad readings of I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face
    and For All We Know.

Stan Getz: one of the all-time great tenor saxophonists

Cal Tjader: The legendary percussionist who is often linked to the development of Latin rock and acid jazz. Although fusing jazz with Latin music is often
categorized as Latin jazz (or, earlier, Afro-Cuban jazz), Tjader's output swung freely between both styles.

    Quatro: The Definitive Collection

Over the course of his impressive artistic career, Tito Puente was a perennial and prolific innovator of Latin tropical music and Latin jazz of the highest caliber. Now thanks to Sony Music Latin, we all get to enjoy the four signature and landmark albums (artwork - front & back- as it originally appeared), along with a fifth bonus album, that truly defined the "American Icon" and his golden era:

"Cuban Carnival" (1956) is included with the original artwork. "Dance Mania" (1958) is the best-selling album of Tito's career. "Night Beat" (1957) became one of Latin jazz's seminal albums, while "Revolving Bandstand" (1960), considered the most innovative jazz recording of its time with the simultaneous inclusion of two big bands in the studio, is re-issued for the first time, with original artwork and liner notes.

This impressive and ever so unique package of 5 albums is being collectively released as Quatro - The Definitive Collection. A compendium that's like no other in the discography of Tito Puente, as it focuses on his early years, the RCA era of 1955-1960, so beloved by fans, critics and music historians.

Quatro - The Definitive Collection includes informative liner notes written by Joe Conzo (curator & music historian and author of the book "Mambo Diablo My Journey with Tito Puente"), a close friend of Tito Puente. It also contains never-before published facts and photos, plus previously unreleased artwork and alternate takes.

Among the other highlights and most interesting, informative features of this collection are the quotes from a plethora of musicians, producers and others who personally knew and/or worked with Tito over the course of his six-decade musical career.

Arroz con Habichuela is the title of the studio album by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico. The Spanish title of the album means rice with beans in English which is a popular plate both in Puerto Rico and throughout Latin America. It is also the first album featuring new member, Willie Sotelo, on piano who replaced longtime piano player, Rafael Ithier, so that Ithier could focus more on directing the band.

    Cal Tjader's Latin Concert

As Cal Tjader's reputation and popularity grew as one of the major forces in Afro-Cuban jazz, he was able to hire some of the music's most able artists. On this 1958 album, recorded at San Francisco's famous Black Hawk, his band included percussionists Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo, pianist Vince Guaraldi, and bassist Al McKibbon, a veteran of the Dizzy Gillespie band that opened American ears to the charms and urgencies of Afro-Cuban rhythms. Having Al in the band, Tjader once said, is an impossible dream come true. Among the pieces here are several by Tjader and one that was destined to become a classic in the literature of Latin jazz, Ray Bryant's Cubano Chant.

    Rhythm Machine

Fania records founder Jerry Masucci nurtured a group of musicians who collectively defined the New York-based Latin American dance music called salsa. Masucci packaged his stars in touring revues patterned after the R&B revues mounted by Motown, Stax/Volt and others. The Fania All Stars could thus play such large venues as Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden, promoting both their individual careers and recordings such as Rhythm Machine, which features some big-name jazz guests. Ruben Blades leads a stellar vocal lineup that includes Adalberto Santiago, Hector Casanova, Ada Chabrell, Nancy O'Neill, and Johnny Pacheco, who also plays flute and percussion. Jon Faddis and Randy Brecker are the headliners of a four-piece trumpet section, backed by three trombones, flutes, harp, vibes, and other assorted instruments. --John Swenson

    Stone Soul (Speakers Corner)

With all the exultation about the reconciliation between the capitalistic USA and the socialistic island state of Cuba, it is easy to oversee that the musical fusion between the two countries took place decades ago. Afro Cuban jazz, in which the interpretation and rhythms of swing and bebop are united with all imaginable rhythms from Brazil and the Caribbean, was label enough to describe a peaceful yet exciting and revolutionary music.

At first glance it appears that in his album Stone Soul the Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria just took a handful of popular songs from pop and soul and 'translated' them into his own musical language. So far so good: but the enthusiasm and joy with which the band performs is anything but ordinary. Once the threshold for a potent Latin combo has been overcome with meaty winds (See Saw), Sonny Fortune on the alto sax storms ahead along rhythm & blues tracks and breaks out with hectic cleft licks on his own headstrong path. Incited by crisp percussion, one can experience how traditional music is combined with a musician's own ideas to create completely new music.

    Musicians:

    • Mongo Santamaria (conga,bongo)
    • Sonny Fortune (alto saxophone)
    • Hadley Caliman, Hubert Laws (tenor saxophone)
    • Art Kaplan (bassoon)
    • Louis Gasca (trumpet)

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Deluxe 45RPM Version Features Extra-Wide Grooves: Richest, Most Dynamic and Realistic Sound of Any Version

Lyrical, Splendorous, Rapturous, Psychedelic, and Bluesy Debut Set a New Musical Standard: Experience This Paradigm the Way the Artist Intended

Ranked #149 on Rolling Stone's List of the Greatest Albums of All Time

Santana's self-titled debut album announces the arrival of a new Guitar God. Made during the legendary bandleader's most fruitful and creative period, the classic 1969 set functions as an accessible entry point into the tangy worlds of Latin music by way of an intoxicating blend of Afro-Cuban percussion, jazzy tempos, exotic leads, bluesy riffs, and psychedelic accents. Befitting such a classic, Mobile Fidelity's 45RPM 2LP version of this epic work presents the music in the richest, most dynamic and realistic sound it's ever enjoyed.

Improving upon the label's critically acclaimed 180g LP pressing, this deluxe 45RPM set is mastered from the original master tapes and overflows with the information, textures, and colors afforded by wider grooves. The result: Spacious, airy, and you-are-there sonics that trump all prior versions. In addition to correcting the imaging, Mobile Fidelity's collectable version captures the full tonal range of Santana's guitar and nuances of his distinctive touch. It all brings you closer to the music and enhances your emotional connection to this stellar album.

Indeed, separation between Carlos Santana's fluid fills, spicy solos, and broiling grooves and pianist Gregg Rolie's soulful Hammond organ runs allows the music to come alive with a newfound freshness and radiance. Songs simmer, with each passage bursting forth with vibrant color. Just like the equally essential follow-up Abraxas, Santana also lays claim to one of the biggest (and unfortunate) production gaffes in music history. Until Mobile Fidelity fixed the error with its 180g LP and 24K Gold releases, Santana had never been heard correctly.

For nearly four decades, copies were produced with the left and right channels reversed, meaning that everything was placed in a backwards manner. This even extended to compilations on which individual songs from Santana were included. Rest assured that, in addition to boasting reference audiophile sonics, this 180g 45RPM 2LP set gets all the specifications exactly right. And with a record of this magnitude, you want everything to be perfect.

Bound by natural chemistry and earthy spirituality, the record's innovative synthesis of myriad styles goes beyond anything that came before-as well as nearly everything that's followed. Playing with the finest band that the iconic guitarist ever had, Santana doesn't water down any exotic roots or simply incorporate mainstream Western styles into a Latin framework. This is a true hybrid, responsible for opening up borders, transcending cultural divides, and, most importantly, exhilarating the senses.

Released weeks before the band blew minds at Woodstock, the groundbreaking record stands alongside Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and Jeff Beck's Beck-Ola as a pillar of rock fusion. Featuring the Top Ten radio smash "Evil Ways" and jam favorite "Soul Sacrifice," it hasn't aged a day. Hear like never before why Rolling Stone says Santana is #149 on its list of the Greatest Albums of All Time.

That's The Way Of The World (Speakers Corner)

Ranked 493/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

OK, so it's disco sound, but it's really good. Whoever says that today must have been pretty lively on their feet in the 70s and 80s and in the days of their youth they will definitely have noticed that the commercial fusion music they listened to on a Saturday night was buzzing with energy and excitement. Earth, Wind & Fire considered their amazing mix of Latin, Gospel, Soul, Funk and dynamic horn section as being of existential importance. This was the album that would either make or break the band: either they would establish themselves or they would sink into oblivion like so many other rhythm and blues acts.

The basic recipe - finely chiselled Latin beat, meaty bass grooves and sizzling funky improvisations, spiced with the sound of exotic instruments - works perfectly. Furthermore, crowned with a beautifully airy falsetto and relaxed harmonious singing, the band created a big-band sound that the magazine Rolling Stone described as »innovative yet popular, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing«. Almost two decades later, and with more than three million albums sold in the USA alone, the editorial team voted the LP into their list of the '500 Greatest Albums of All Time'. And about time too! At last today's ravers and rappers also get the opportunity to experience the great rhythms to which their daddies danced.

Luis Miguel is undoubtedly one of the most successful Latin artists in the history of music. His achievements and talents are unparalleled, especially when one considers that it all began during his teen years. But it wasn't until his 1991 release of the multi-platinum album ROMANCE that catapulted this artist into worldwide stardom. From there, Luis Miguel broke every major Latin music record imaginable, including album sales and world concert tours. Today, he continues to be one strongest Latin acts selling out the largest arenas and stadiums throughout Latin America, Spain and the U.S.

Calle 13 have come a long way since their 2005 debut, when they were a smartass pair of twentysomethings from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, riding the international reggaeton boom with a club-minded mix of sex talk and political invective. With their fifth record, frontman Residente and his halfbrother Visitante have made as ambitious a hip-hop album - if that's not too narrow a term - as any in any language. Beginning with an incantatory intro delivered by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano, the album ramps up through Respira El Momento, where Residente breathlessly escalates his Eminem-ish flow over dark piano, orchestral swells and choral drama. El Aguante pays tribute to human endurance, calling out a laundry list of dubious leaders (among them Hitler, Idi Amin, Stalin/Bush, Truman, Ariel Sharon) over a pennywhistle stomp owing to both Gogol Bordello and the Pogues. And on the title track, driven forward by Middle Eastern vocals and guest Tom Morello's strafing guitar, controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange - who recorded his spoken-word part in the basement of the Ecuadorian embassy in London - salutes the power of people armed with the truth. The song, like the entire LP, is an object lesson in just that.

Latin In A Satin Mood (45 RPM)

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio From The Original Analog Tapes

200-Gram Gatefold LP, Cut At 45 RPM

Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings!

She was the sultry film starlet-turned-torch singer-come-TV actress whose dusky alto captivated a generation. Julie London was discovered while running a department store elevator in Hollywood.

Just three years earlier the bountiful 15-year-old, born Julie Peck to her parents, a song-and-dance duo of the vaudeville era, was singing on her parents' radio show. When she started working in the movies in the 1940s, she changed her name to London. During the course of a celebrated career in acting and music, she made more than 30 albums.

The sultry-voiced actress, who was once married to Dragnet producer-star Jack Webb, had a hit record with the 1950s single Cry Me a River. The single debuted in 1955, sold three million copies and remained in demand into the 1960s.

Analogue Productions has brought back Julie London sings Latin In A Satin Mood in dramatic, deserving fashion. Remastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, the crispness and vibrancy of this recording is spectacular. And we've cut this version at 45 RPM, meaning the 12 tracks are spread over two LPs for even better cartridge tracking for superior sound quality!

Exotic and Latin albums were big deals in the 1950s and early '60s, and singers as diverse as Dean Martin, Lena Horne, and Peggy Lee were recording with castanets and bongo drums. Like Peggy Lee, London combines a restrained vocal approach with jazz phrasing and a cool attitude with icy sex appeal on this album of relaxing Latin standards. Julie does look beautiful on the cover, and the backup male mariachi-esque serenade ads to the romantic ambiance.

Speaking of the cover, expect only top-notch reproduction for our Analogue Productions reissue. Originally a single LP jacket, we've upgraded to a gatefold incorporating more original photographs provided by Universal.

London appeared in nearly two dozen motion pictures during the 1940s and '50s; she was best known to TV audiences as nurse Dixie McCall on the 1970s hospital drama Emergency! She was hired on Emergency! by Webb, her then-former spouse, to co-star with her second husband, jazz musician Bobby Troup. Troup, who composed the iconic musical hit Route 66 played a doctor on the show and it was he who helped sign Julie to the Liberty record label.

Describing her smoky vocal style, London once said, It's only a thimbleful of a voice, and I have to use it close to a microphone. But it is a kind of over-smoked voice, and it automatically sounds intimate. A style inimitable, in our estimation.
