Peter Broderick-produced debut from the Dutch singer/songwriter, Laura Arkana shows the promise of a new voice. The recordings are warm and unfussy. For her part, Arkana paints specific details into her song-vignettes and sings with a conversational lilt. Her finger-pickingclean and anchoredgives rhythmic flight to a sophisticated melodic sensibility. It were as if she arrived fully formed.

For his part, Peter Broderick combines a wealth of experience with his signature restraint and sensitivity, letting the songs breathe while enhancing their textural depth and dynamics with stringed instruments, vocals and percussion.

With Laura Arkana Met Peter Broderick (the word met here fulfills an international double entendre which translates to with in Dutch) listeners are delighted to discover song-scape like so many sprouting vines and stems intertwining with the relentlessness of Springtime in Paris, in Berlin, in where you are now.

Laura Marling returns with her fifth studio album in seven years Short Movie. The album, a follow up to 2013's Mercury Prize nominated Once I Was An Eagle, marks a new chapter in her sound and artistic development. Short Movie sees Marling move into new musical territory and may surprise fans with its prevalence of electric guitar. The album is freer and looser sounding than anything she has done before. Marling produced the album, was recorded at Urchin Studios in London and aided by her long time drummer Matt Ingram and studio engineer Dan Cox.

    A Creature I Don't Know

A Creature I Dont Know is British singer/songwriter and guitarist Laura Marlings third album and first for Ribbon Music. Since her emergence onto the London music scene in 2007 Laura Marling has steadily secured her position as one of the most exciting musical talents of her generation. By the age of 21 she has already won a BRIT award and been nominated for the UK Mercury Music prize twice.

Recorded with producer Ethan Johns (who also helmed her acclaimed sophomore album I Speak Because I Can), A Creature I Dont Know is a boldly accomplished and endlessly impressive album. 10 original compositions of intricate and captivating story-telling, buoyed by Marlings rich voice, evocative lyrics and the precise, confident instrumentation on every track. Marlings delivery is pitch perfect, her voice going from delicate whisper to brooding murmur and rousing wail, sometimes all in the very same sentence.

Johns production of A Creature I Dont Know is the perfect showcase for her remarkable gifts, pulling back to give a stark spotlight to her stunning voice before surging forth with a rollicking live band feel. Fans of Marlings previous recordings will recognize her mesmeric tales and soaring melodies in what is ultimately an incredibly intimate album.

    I Speak Because I Can

Ribbon Music is pleased to announce deluxe re-issues of Laura Marlings first two critically acclaimed albums; Alas I Cannot Swim and I Speak Because I Can on LP. I Speak Because I Can was the self assured second album from the young British singer/songwriter, originally released in 2010. The album was produced by Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright) and featured backing vocals from Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons).

Since her emergence onto the London music scene in 2007 Laura Marling has steadily secured her position as one of the most exciting musical talents of her generation. By the tender age of 21 she has already won a BRIT award and been nominated for the UK Mercury Music prize twice. While so many artists of any age attempt to locate their inner child, Marling with a sometime steely gaze, measures the prerogatives of youth against the looming realities of adulthood, the specter of mortality, the betrayals of love, the balm of sex, the yearning for companionship, the need for independence. As the Times Of London recently posited, Who else is making music as ambitious, as haunting, as centuries-straddling, as thought provoking and artistically tenacious as this? And the answer is: nobody. No, really. Not a soul.

Marling, who started out, briefly but auspiciously, with a stint in the group Noah and the Whale, was a mere 16 when she independently released her first singles and almost immediately gained serious stature as a key figure on Britains burgeoning young folk scene, alongside such artists and friends as singer/actor Johnny Flynn and Mumford & Sons. The two startlingly self-assured albums that followed, Alas I Cannot Swim (2008) and I Speak Because I Can (2010), brought the self-effacing and relatively shy Marling an extraordinary level of acclaim in her homeland, with each of them in turn being nominated for the U.K.s prestigious Mercury Prize. Remastered on 180g vinyl with deluxe gatefold packaging.

Laura Marling's new album, Once I Was An Eagle, was recorded in the
English country studio of long-time producer and instrumentalist Ethan
Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams) and Marling's lifelong friend Ruth de
Turberville on cello. Not only was the process complete in just ten days, but
Marling's vocals and acoustic guitars were recorded live in one take-in one
day. To that acoustic skeleton-which will be the sound of her upcoming
solo tour, her first sans band-Marling and Johns then added textured
layers of percussion and instrumentation. It's a hugely ambitious record that
echoes the themes of previous album A Creature I Don't Know.

This is Marling's fourth album and the precocious and preternaturally
talented British singer-songwriter has attained what sounds undeniably like
vocal, emotional, and artistic maturity. It's a record for the ages. Released at
the age of twenty-three. Her already impressive career has so far included
a 2011 Brit Award (UK Grammy-equivalent) for Best British Female Solo
Artist, two Mercury Music Prize nominations, and an NME Award for Best
    Solo Artist.

When Marling began writing the songs that would become Eagle, she'd
been "obsessively" collecting records from the year 1969. She was in the
middle of a U.S. tour to promote A Creature I Don't Know. She was about to
let go of her band, feeling dislocated on the open road, and searching for
what it meant to be an artist and a woman in the world at an age at which
her contemporaries were still in college. Eagle is a concept album, sort of.
It follows a thread of mythology, lyrically and metaphorically. An eagle and
a dove, the devil, and the sea populate her cast of characters; soundscapes
ebb and flow like an epic plot, or, for that matter, an epic road trip across
    the States.

Christmas And The Beads Of Sweat (Pure Pleasure)

Laura Nyro's third Columbia effort is easily the equal of her previous two. The overwhelming strength of her songwriting and distinctive arrangements fuel Christmas And The Beads Of Sweat. Her unmistakable style of delivery maintains the continual examination of herself as a performer. The results are uniformly interesting and provocative as she continues to draw upon her love of jazz, folk, and R&B.

Conceptually, this album is as potent as her previous effort, New York Tendaberry, but in a much different way. Rather than hanging together thematically, Christmas And The Beads Of Sweat features two inclusive and distinctive sides of music -- with different musicians and producers for each.

The first five tracks feature Nyro backed by the Swampers from Muscle Shoals, AL, and include the talents of Roger Hawkins (drums), Eddie Hinton (guitar), Dave Hood (bass), Barry Becket (vibraphone), and Jack Jennings (percussion), with Arif Mardin producing. While this pairing might seem initially incongruous, the quintet had been concurrently working with the likes of Dusty Springfield and Cher and had gained a rightful reputation as a consummate backup band.

The final four pieces are steeped in noir more atypical of her previous efforts. The all-star cast of New York City session heavyweights are led by Felix Cavaliere (producer) and features fellow Rascals member Dino Danelli (drums), Ralph McDonald (percussion), Chuck Rainey (bass), Cornell Dupree (guitar), Duane Allman (guitar), and Alice Coltrane (stringed harp), among others.

As with all of Nyro's recordings, at the heart of this effort are her ageless compositions and arrangements. A motif connecting such disparate tunes as the upbeat When I Was A Freeport And You Were The Main Drag to the hauntingly beautiful Christmas In My Soul and Beads Of Sweat is the aching hollowness that came with the disillusionment that Vietnam, Kent State, and racial relations brought upon America in 1970. As she had done with Save The Country some four years earlier, Nyro's cathartic expressionism is captured at its most fervent on this album.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood

Following the demise of Georgie James, Laura Burhenn (half of the former DC duo) gathered her favorite books, records, and people around her and wrote what would become the first album from her new band. Recorded in the rugged hills of Oregon in the summer of 2009 with producer Richard Swift at the helm, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood tells the story of loss and recovery, the music nodding to gospel and garage, the lyrics following a Zen trajectory. I wanted to make a record that felt like Neil Young doing Motown, Laura says, something simple and strong, old and new at once.

    Wait To Pleasure

Wait To Pleasure may not provide you with any new answers about No Joy, but what it does offer is a batch of incredible new songs, the product of the Montreal noise-pop band's first foray in a fully-furnished studio environment.

Here the band has flourished, delivering their finest set to date, rooted heavily in shoegaze ripcurls and devastating melody, finishing sentences whispered long ago with depth, variance and force. Jasamine White-Gluz, Laura Lloyd and Garland Hastings knock down the fence between nostalgia and modernity, chaos and control, in a perfectly realized work.

The group recorded its debut album, 2010's Ghost Blonde, in their practice space, using USB microphones, consumer audio equipment, and a laptop. "We had to work under a certain set of circumstances, but we did it entirely on our own," says Laura. "If you listen closely enough to that record, you can hear the radio playing through our amps, and phantom echoes of the Metallica cover band and the No Doubt cover band practicing down the hall from our room."

Wait To Pleasure found No Joy set loose in Mexican Summer's studio, Gary's Electric, for two weeks in 2012, with producer Jorge Alberecht (Violens, Lansing-Dreiden) at the helm. "We've never really made a record in an actual recording studio," says Laura. "It couldn't have worked out better. Since Gary's is booked by the label staff, we didn't feel any pressure to get the album finished by a set date. We had the time to bring our ideas to the studio and work them out there, along with the songs we'd finished on our own. We got to work on our own schedule, whenever we were ready." Adding piano, keyboards and drum programming to the record helped to color in their sound the way that they wanted. "Our earlier records are purely guitar-based, rock band lineups," Laura adds, "and with Wait To Pleasure we seized the opportunity to change things up a bit."

    Woodshock Soundtrack

Woodshock is an American drama film written and directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy, in their directorial debut. Starring Kirsten Dunst as a woman in the wake of a profound loss, the film follows her as she is torn between her devastated emotional state and the reality-altering effects of a potent drug. Dreamlike and surreal, the film is a unique exploration of grief and despair. Peter Raeburn composed the haunting, delicate score to Woodshock.

Con Todo El Mundo (Awaiting Repress)

Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald "DJ"
Johnson on drums; globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present their
second album 'Con Todo El Mundo.'

Whereas their 2015 debut album 'The Universe Smiles Upon You' was
influenced by 60s and 70s Thai cassettes and compilations of southeast
Asian pop, rock and funk, 'Con Todo El Mundo' hops east over
India to take inspiration in similarly under discovered funk and soul
sounds of the Middle-East, particularly from Iran. Laura Lee explains
the album's title: "My grandpa would always ask me 'Como me quieres?'
('how much do you love me'?), and he'd only ever accept one
response. 'Con todo el mundo' (With all the world)."

Throughout 'Con Todo El Mundo', Laura Lee's melodic low-end
    theory, Mark's lyrical, free-role guitar lines, and DJ's ever-steady,
ever-ready backbeat form something greater than their parts. A
vibe-synchronous soul-unit travelling the planet, honing their craft,
absorbing the sights, sounds and feels from cultures across the globe,
processing them through the Khruangbin filter and gifting the result...
    with all the world.

    Blue Roses (Discontinued)

Laura Groves began writing songs as a teenager in Yorkshire. With an old family piano and a borrowed guitar, thinking of the records she loved, lyrics that broke her heart, phrasing that made it race, composers cradling her aspirations. Influences spanning genres and generations; from Bart?k to Bush, Tiersen to Tears For Fears, Debussy to Du Maurier. She dreamt of writing, arranging, performing and producing an album that would be as treasured by someone else, and hopefully inspire them in the same way.

The journey from then until now has not only given her more years, but more confidence, more experience of life, the courage to let the music express when words seem too restrictive. The name Blue Roses is encompassing; it is more than just one person and their sole aspirations, it is what happened in making the album, this process gave the need for another, more representative name. Blue Roses is the story, with Laura Groves as the protagonist. Included is a cast of family members to play instruments and a choir of firm friends, acquaintances and perfect strangers gathered together in a caf? to help. A small amount of money and a little faith was stretched with the benevolence and enthusiasm of those who stood at each door. From recording in living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms in various houses, to recording a Steinway in a local piano shop (a millionaire, who despite having paid a five-figure sum for the concert grand piano, was enchanted enough by the story and the music to allow Laura to record with it before it was moved to entertain guests his Lake District hotel). The equipment graciously bought and generously lent, (most of which was older than Laura herself, some of which was of pensionable age) put her on a sonic par with her idols and instilled in her a romance which translated through the Neumann, the Gibson and Wurlitzer, the Neve. The valves, the plates, the springs, the tape, transformers and circuitry are as musical as the instruments and voices passing through them, and are part of the story, the color between the lines.

    Time Travel

Oh, by now, I must have grown, Alessi Laurent-Marke croons beautifully, four songs into her stunning sophomore album Time Travel.

And hasn't she just - not yet 21 but already a seasoned pro, having recorded her debut album aged just 17, with members of Bright Eyes, and touring with the likes of Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons and Brighton cult faves the Willkommen Collective. Time Travel is the first Alessi's Ark album since signing to Bella Union, where her acutely melodic and exquisitely tender folk-pop charms haven't just grown; they've blossomed into something extraordinarily mature.

    Generals

Following 2010's critically acclaimed debut What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood and a year on the road touring as part of Bright Eyes, singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn teamed up with producer Richard Swift again and emerged with GENERALS, a sophomore album fully armed. In place of the Zen meditations found on the Mynabirds' first album, GENERALS is filled with armies of stomps and claps, sweeping full spectrum orchestrations, and moments that range from intensely personal pleas to shout-out-loud protests with teeth.
