    Texas Oil Patch Songs

    Pressed On Petro-Blue Colored Vinyl

    Drillin' & Drivin' Rig Ringers!

Country singer and disc jockey Slim Willet's ode to tool-pushin'! Texas Oil Patch Songs was issued in 1959 by the artist on his own Winston label, and now is an impossibly-rare LP to dig up-and this Modern Harmonic edition is faithful to the original, including all twelve tracks, liner notes, and restored artwork! And on petro-blue vinyl!

Ahh the "Concept Album" Critics write of Sinatra's In The Wee Small Hours or of groundbreaking 60's rock opera opuses but while the big studios set the scene for rainy night walks or drug-fueled psychedelic trips, a Great Lost Treasure from the Great Texas Oil Fields lay buried deep in the bargain bins of Saint Peters' Holy Blood Of The Christ Thrift Store! For sure, Slim Willet's mighty collection of blue collar, well-digging classics stood little chance to begin with - only a few hundred were pressed - and, well, oil songs never really caught on in the way the similar trucking-songs boom would several years later. Maybe had Slim put this out during the great Gas Station/Truck Stop 8-Track Market of the 70's this could have been a hit album. But, with Slim's passing in 1966, it was never to be.

Slim Willet (born Winston Lee Moore) was certainly a Big Fish in a Small Pond in the Independent Country Music World of the late 40s & early 50s. He's best known for penning "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes," a hit song for Ray Price, Skeets McDonald and Perry Como, all. Slim worked for many years with Bill McCall at 4-Star, made a stack of records as a singer, started his own Winston label, managed Dean Beard and various other hillbilly and rockabilly artists, but never really hit the big time. His greatest masterpiece, 1959's Texas Oil Patch Songs, was never fully appreciated until now. For all the tool pushers, roughnecks, derrick men & chain hands, THIS is your soundtrack."

    Shades Of Blue

First Pressing Of 1,000 Numbered Copies On Blue And White Mixed Vinyl, Black Vinyl Thereafter

Interpretations And Remixes Of Blue Note Classics The Look Of Slim, Distant Land, Stormy, Live Performance Of Peace/dolphin Dance And Many More Tracks

Shades Of Blue is a unique project that turns over the legacy of the esteemed Blue Note jazz label to one of hip-hop's most unique artists, Madlib. He is considered to be one of hip-hop's most inventive visionaries and connects it's productions through smart lyrics and poetics.

The album opens with the declaration that We are now having a little cooking session for Blue Note right here on the scene... Madlib was afforded the opportunity to mine the crates of Blue Note. On Shades of Blue, he delivers remixes and brand spanking new interpretations of Blue Note classics.

Whether funking out Ronnie Foster's original Mystic Brew and transforming it into the Mystic Bounce, or giving Wayne Shorter's Footprints a go with Yesterday's New Quintet, rest assured that Madlib's innovative sonic vocabulary will fill the ears.

Other artists receiving a Madlib reimagination include Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey, Bobby Hutcherson, Horace Silver, The Three Sounds and many more.

Pitchfork album reviewer Scott Hreha rates the album 8.6 Listening to Madlib's music, I'm reminded of the Black radical maestros responsible for some of the outermost-limits music-making of the past half-century: Sun Ra, George Clinton, Lee 'Scratch' Perry.

In 2014, it ranked at number 11 on Paste's 12 Classic Hip-Hop Albums That Deserve More Attention list.

Placed within legendary reggae producer Lee Scratch Perry's prolific discography, The Upsetters Chapter 1 stands out as one of the eccentric genius's most interesting, adventurous works. Using a combination of established collaborators and new musicians, Perry creates a classic dub record that pulses with deep bass, echoing percussion and dissonant sound effects. Spiritual cuts (When Jah Come) are balanced by grand dub productions (Tighten Up), creating a cohesive, infectious sound that rivals the Upsetter's finest material.

    Do The Right Thing

The soundtrack for director Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing is a window into the classics hip-hop/R&B scene circa 1989. Peppered with new jack era slabs of wax from the likes of Public Enemy (the iconic Fight the Power), summer party staples from E.U. (Party Hearty) and Teddy Riley (My Fantasy), and deep slow jams from Perri and Al Jarreau, it's the perfect background for a hot night in the city, and like the film itself, it's both frivolous and foreboding.

1976 proved to be a defining year for Lee Scratch Perry. A deal with Island Records meant that his 3
albums and a dozen singles received the marketing and promotion from the coolest label in the
mainstream UK & US markets. Perry himself was in creative overdrive: he used Island's advances to
buy the latest studio technology for the young Black Ark Studio which enabled him to continually
develop his production signatures. Now, some 37 years later, Roaring Lion delivers unknown tunes
and mixes from that crucial year. With a dozen tracks straight off a single master tape our set offers a unique snap-shot of Perry's creative vibrations as Producer, and re-mixer, to the
rising cultural religion of Rasta. The Black Ark was peaking in the red as he revved himself to full throttle and created his finest ever work.

Special one-off dub plate mixes and super rare 45s you can't find anywhere else. 'Long Enough' features Candy Mackenzie on lead vocal to stunning effect, a track as soulful as anything ever recorded at the Black Ark. Candy was part of the Full Experience vocal group that worked on many Lee Perry sessions. There is a fantastic unreleased melodica version of Junior Murvins' Strong Drink, and although we can't be 100% sure, it's probably Augustus Pablo blowing melodica over the top. Dub reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry delivers a second follow-up to his Grammy-nominated collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Steve Marshall and producer John Saxon. Perry continues to create unique, category-defying music. For the uninitiated, Lee Scratch Perry is one of the most important figures in the history of reggae music. Not only did he help develop the early reggae sound captured in a number of important recordings, but as an engineer, producer, songwriter, and performer he pioneered a number of innovations, including dub reggae. Lee Perry again draws his narrative from his spirituality and today's global events. Very special guests Keith Richards and George Clinton again join Marshall, with Duncan & Green, Tim Hill, Dr Sleepy, Alec Hay, elodieO & Abi Browning, and David Stewart Jones also featured.

One World is a 1977 album by John Martyn. One of his more experimental works, it features atmospheric, reggae influenced rhythms and free-flowing, jazzy arrangements. Acclaimed for its collaborative spirit, the album includes contributions from Lee Perry on Big Muff, and Steve Winwood (keyboards). Contemporary reviews were positive, with the NME declaring the album mean, moody and magnificent.

First 750 Numbered Copies Pressed On 180 Gram Orange Vinyl, Black Vinyl Thereafter

This classic album from 1973 saw its creator, Lee 'Scratch' Perry exploring synths and starting to develop his Black Ark sound - the enigmatic producer was at the time in the process of building his famous studio and honing his ideas about dub as a musical form.

The LP opens with the eerie Kentucky Skank, Perry's ode to KFC, complete with frying chicken sounds, spliced between winding tapes, a ghostly trumpet, and futuristic Moog synthesizer, overdubbed at London's Chalk Farm studios.

U Roy's Double Six and I Roy's High Fashion and Hail Stones illustrate just how strong The Upsetter's deejay material had become, while versions of the Chi-Lites' We Are Neighbours, Sam & Dave's Soul Man and a re-working of Al Green's Love and Happiness (retitled Jungle Lion) all betray the funky soul influence that was increasingly shaping his work.

The backing tracks illustrate the producer at his best; the audio spectrum is fully differentiated while spatial placement an important component - something it would take years for him to achieve at the Black Ark.

    Young Prayer

Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, a.k.a. one-fourth of the founding members of Animal Collective, has had a far-from-quiet few years since the release of his fourth solo record, 2011's Tomboy. Since the breakout success of 2007's universally-adored Person Pitch, each new Panda Bear release is a highly anticipated event, and with a high-profile Daft Punk collaboration later, that's more the case than ever. But if the title of his fifth solo album as Panda Bear seems to portend certain doom, think again. Taking his inspiration from '70s dub duo albums like King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown and Augustus Pablo Meets Lee Perry & the Wailers Band, Panda Bear prefers to frame his latest work as less of a battle and more a collaboration. "I see it [as] more comicbooky, a little more lighthearted," he says. "Like Alien Vs. Predator." Young Prayer is the second full-length solo album by Panda Bear. It was recorded in Panda Bear's childhood home in 2002 by Deakin and further produced by the mysterious Animal Collective brothers known as Come Winter. It was originally released in 2004 on Paw Tracks as PAW2.

Bulby has been producing and releasing hit reggae and dancehall records since the late 1990s on his label, Fat Eyes. With Epic & Ting he shifts his role from label / producer to artist. Studio One Dub Volume 2

Studio One Dub 2 is a second collection bringing together some of the finest dubs from the legendary Studio One Records, Kingston, Jamaica. Dub music was the creation of a generation of brilliant recording studio engineers in Jamaica. But although Clement Coxsone Dodd's Studio One is hailed as the greatest of the Jamaican recording labels, and although many talented engineers worked the board at Dodd's Brentford Road studio over the years (including Sylvan Morris, Syd Bucknor, Overton Scientist Brown and Dodd himself), Studio One was never typically known as a centre for dub. This is because for many fans the studio's commercial and stylistic heyday was in the 1960s, prior to the rise of dub as a distinct sub-genre of Jamaican music in the 1970s. By the 1970s, however, dub music was the rage in Jamaica's sound systems. Always the pioneer - and since Sylvan Morris had left the Studio One operation around 1972 - Coxsone supervised the dubs till leaving Jamaica at the end of the decade. This meant that for the most part, for example, the twelve Studio One dub albums released during the 1970s were mixed by Dodd himself, using the moniker Dub Specialist. Throughout the decade, the mixes became more sophisticated and atmospheric. Along with the first volume of Studio One Dub, the cuts here demonstrate that Studio One's contribution to the innovative musical form of dub was substantial, and go straight to the head of listeners who feel that the only centres for dub were studios such as King Tubby's, Lee Perry's Black Ark, Channel One, or Joe Gibbs's. The tracks on this compilation are taken from this period in the 1970s when dub was the cutting-edge of Jamaican music studio production. Most of them are the dub-version flip-sides of rare Jamaican 45s, and none have appeared on CD before. Michael E. Veal, author of Dub: Soundscapes and Shattered Songs in Jamaican Reggae (Wesleyan University Press, 2007).

    Skycatcher (Awaiting Repress)

10 Ft. Ganja Plant is back with a followup to last year's critically acclaimed instrumental album, 10 Deadly Shots Vol. ii ("their strongest set to date," according to The Wire). Skycatcher sees 'The Plant' doing what they do best... infusing that old school
roots groove into timeless songs and sounds. This elusive group of reggae purists, who hail from the northeast uS and are rumored to share members with heralded reggae group John Brown's Body, have captured the original 70's reggae spirit in a way that few other modern reggae bands have been able to do.

ROiR, no stranger to classic dub and reggae, signed the band a dozen years ago and have released a catalog of albums that reveal influences and echoes of '70s roots, from the close vocal harmonies of the Meditations to the dark, bass-heavy productions
of Black Ark-era Lee "Scratch" Perry.

Modern roots reggae of the highest order.

    Blood Bunny/Black Rabbit

Befitting of The Black Heart Procession, Blood Bunny/Black Rabbit takes the experimentation hinted at on last years critically lauded Six and expands upon it in bizarre and brilliant ways. Centered around three stunning new songs, the collection is arranged and mixed as one continuous composition, sounding every bit like an LSD-influenced DJ set in the kind of terrifying but strangely alluring vampire sex den commonly seen in True Blood. Its the ideal atmosphere for The Black Heart Procession, where they feel most comfortable and sound most in control.

The set is rounded out by a series of remixes, most notably the eccentric freak-out Freeze by legendary dub pioneer Lee Scratch Perry and ambient electronic luminary Eluviums 10-minute orchestral reconstruction of the solitary piano ballad Drugs. Jenkins remixes a couple of tunes himself under the guise of Mr. Tube, and San Diego electronic producers Jamuel Saxon close the album with an unlikely downtempo dance reworking of Drugs that transforms the songs morose lyrics into a meditative, almost hopeful trance.

If Blood Bunny/Black Rabbit was supposed to be a stop-gap between albums, no one seems to have told the band as much. It is easily one of The Black HeartProcessions more compelling and intriguing releases of their extensive and impressive catalog.
