SONM-LEG-0514xMiles Davis Quintet
'Round About MidnightAt long last these early recordings, which Miles Davis set down for the Columbia label in 1955 and 1956, are available on LP again. And what is more, they were made without any alternate takes or second attempts, as is the custom these days.
You can sit back and enjoy the six numbers in the order which the producer, probably in conjunction with Davis, decided upon. To be sure, all of the titles are well known and have been played a thousand times over in many different versions. But what this Quintet (and here each and every individual musician is meant!) produces as regards inventiveness, thrilling improvisations and artistry is absolutely top notch. Davis's vibrato-less sound is taken over seamlessly by John Coltrane - wonderfully demonstrated in the middle of Bye, Bye Blackbird, while Paul Chambers' showpiece is Ack VÄrmeland du sköna (aka Dear Old Stockholm). In the years 1955/56, bebop was the talk of the day, born witness to by the classics Tadd's Delight by Tadd Dameron and Ah-Leu-Cha by Charlie Parker. Here, however, the improvised melodic strands are more moderate, pointing the way to the style that later became known as modal jazz.
Although 'Round About Midnight as an album does not enjoy the reputation of Kind Of Blue, this Columbia recording contains many gems which are well worth hearing.1. 'Round Midnight2. Ah-Leu-Cha3. Someday My Prince Will ComeRemastered on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl!
After John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly left the 'quintet', Miles Davis was forced to search for new qualified musicians. He found them in Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Cobb and Paul Chambers. In 1961, just two years after recording Kind Of Blue, Miles and his new line up started recording energetically and finished Someday My Prince Will Come after only three days.
This album is a cross-over from Kind Of Blue, which is known for the typical Miles Davis-tunes, to traditional pop-standards such as the eponymous title track from Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.1. Someday My Prince Will Come

HorsesRanked 44/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Before recording the poetic proto-punk 1975 classic Horses, Patti Smith and her band honed the tunes in a triumphant run of shows at New York's iconic venue, CBGB. In the studio, producer John Cale then helped the band to further refine the songs in a process that brilliantly showcases their anarchic spirit and primitive beauty. Smith's background as a rock critic and poet is equally in evidence here as heard on the re-imaginings of such warhorses as Gloria and Land of 1000 Dances, where she boldly adds her own provocative and unflinching lyrics to great effect. Horses' influence on the burgeoning punk-rock movement is undeniable and it remains one of the finest debuts of all-time!1. Gloria

You & IJeff Buckley's first recording sessions in 1993 in NYC were largely an informal exercise to acclimate the 27-year-old with a recording studio. Recently discovered in the Sony Music archives during the research for the 20th anniversary edition of Buckley's Grace album, the performances on You And I are a revelation, an intimate portrait of the artist performing a variety of cover songs and original music expressing a range of emotion channeled through his singular sensibility.
These intimate, raw and spirited sessions mark Buckley's first time recording versions of electric cover songs such as Bob Dylan's "Just Like A Woman," Sly & The Family Stone's "Everyday People," and Led Zeppelin's "Night Flight" and a previously unissued track, "Dream of You And I."
Long rumored to exist, as the "Addabbo sessions", but previously unheard outside the studio, these seminal recordings are a fan's Holy Grail, a rare opportunity to hear Jeff Buckley in peak form, developing his artistry through a series of spellbinding solo performances, each one captured in pristine sonic detail.
Any time I take a cover and wear it on my sleeve, it's because it had something to do with my life and still marks a time in my life when I needed that song more than anything ever. -- Jeff Buckley, 19941. Just Like A Woman (Bob Dylan cover)

Willie And The Boys: Willie's Stash Vol. 2Legacy Recordings is set to release Willie Nelson and the Boys, the eagerly-awaited second installment in the acclaimed Willie's Stash archival recordings series.
Following in the musical footsteps of 2014's December Day, the first volume in the Willie's Stash series (featuring Willie's Sister Bobbie), Willie Nelson and the Boys is another family collaboration, this time showcasing Willie and sons, Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson, performing a selection of well-loved American country music standards and classics, including seven penned by the immortal Hank Williams Sr.
The Willie's Stash series will present a variety of archival releases, each personally curated by Willie Nelson, culled from decades of recording and touring, providing unique perspectives on one of America's most vital musical forces.
Consisting mainly of studio recordings laid down during the extraordinary 2011 sessions for Heroes, Willie's Legacy debut, Willie Nelson and the Boys (Willie's Stash, Vol. 2) is produced by Willie's longtime friend and collaborator Grammy-winning Buddy Cannon and recorded by Steve Chadie at Pedernales Recordings Studio in Austin, Texas.
Musicians on the album include Willie Nelson (vocals, Trigger), Lukas Nelson (vocals, electric guitar, resonator guitar), Micah Nelson (vocals), Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Kevin Swine Grantt (bass), Bobby Terry (acoustic guitar, electric guitar), Jim Moose Brown (piano, B-3 organ, Wurlitzer), Mike Johnson (steel guitar), Tony Creasman (drums), Barry Bales (upright bass on My Tears Fall) and Lonnie Wilson (drums on My Tears Fall). Move It On Over featured background vocals by the Spur Of The Moment Singers: Buddy Cannon, Mickey Raphael, Kevin Swine Grantt, Bobby Terry, Jim Moose Brown, Mike Johnson, Tony Creasman, Melonie Cannon, and Shannon Finnegan.
According to Willie, the album is ....kinda like the country version of 'Stardust.' Where you have all these great songs and standards that the young people have never heard, then all of a sudden you have a whole new audience out there.
I really love the live element of this record, said producer Buddy Cannon. There was a fire in the studio during those sessions, especially on these particular tracks. It was as though the band was in a Nashville honky tonk and Willie and Lukas strolled in and jammed with the band for an hour. That's what this record is. It's honest excitement. I've never cut a record before that has this element.... It's a great joy to see Willie, Luke and Micah all equally part of a record that I love so much.
Born in Austin, Texas and raised in Maui, singer/songwriter/guitarist Lukas Nelson entered the music scene as a youngster and, by the age of 13, had joined his father Willie Nelson's band, touring as rhythm guitarist and honing the stagecraft that lead to his own career. Moving to Los Angeles, he launched in own ensemble, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real (POTR) in 2008; POTR served as Neil Young's back-up group on The Monsanto Years album and subsequent tour. Lukas and his father worked together on Willie's 2012 Legacy album, Heroes, which featured a number of father-and-son vocal-and-guitar duets.
Micah Nelson has performed with a variety of artists at events including FarmAid, Neil Young's Bridge-School Benefit, Desert Trip festival, Lightning in a Bottle, Coachella, Bonnaroo Festival as well as on TV shows such as Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and more. Micah has been involved in the ensemble Insects vs. Robots, recorded and toured with Neil Young and made multi-instrumental contributions to the 21st century post-modern American rock band Promise Of The Real. Micah is currently the singer/songwriter/guitarist in his future-folk project Particle Kid.
Willie Nelson and the Boys (Willie's Stash, Vol. 2) is the artist's 10th release since signing to Legacy Recordings in 2012. His last Legacy album, God's Problem Child, was released on April 28, 2017 (the eve of Willie's 84th birthday on April 29) and promptly entered the Billboard Country chart at #1, making it the artist's second US country chart-topper in less than two years; Nelson's 6th Legacy release, Django and Jimmie, an unforgettable musical collaboration with Merle Haggard, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country chart in June 2015.1. The MugicianGrammy Award winner, Keyon Harrold, one of the world's most sought-after genre-bending trumpeters, will release The Mugician via Legacy Recordings/Mass Appeal Records.
Long known as the artist's artist - he has worked with Maxwell, Common, BeyoncÉ, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Eminem and a long list of the world's top musical icons - The New York-based musician now takes center stage with a captivating LP that ponders the fears and frustrations of a divided country while yearning for justice and peace.
As the word "Mugician" is an impromptu hybrid of words, this album is an accumulation of Keyon's eclectic tastes, with stylistic twists and turns everywhere taking cues from jazz, hip-hop, blues, rock, reggae, and rap. The new LP features an all-star list of collaborators, including Gary Clark Jr., Big K.R.I.T., Bilal, Pharoahe Monch and Robert Glasper. From spiritual chants and soulful singing to bombastic expressions of frustration and melodic pleas for understanding, Keyon's arrangements color the different ways to hear the world in 2017.
If there are echoes of Miles Davis in Keyon's style and sound, it's no mere coincidence; Keyon played the trumpet sound of Don Cheadle playing Davis in his 2015 biopic Miles Ahead and on its Grammy-winning soundtrack. Don reflects on this and the birth of The Mugician, the nickname that came from that project, in the liner notes, which he contributed to the album.
Ferguson holds a large presence throughout The Mugician. The instrumental "MB Lament" is a tribute to Michael Brown as strings echo a smoking gun while the bass line repeats over and over, reminiscent of the frequency of gun violence and systemic police brutality. "When Will It Stop" answers the calling of "MB Lament" as actor and comedian Guy Torry, also from the St. Louis area, uses humor to confront bigotry, sexism, racism, and more while Keyon leads a driving groove. And on "Circus Show," Keyon and Gary Clark Jr. trade verses and hooks while trying to make sense of America's "Broken" newscast over the repeated phrase "What's going on?"
Themes of home and family loom large on The Mugician. With nine brothers and seven sisters, several of whom are also accomplished musicians, Keyon considers family essential; the album opener "Voicemail" features Keyon's own mother encouraging her son to stay true to himself and to never give up in the face of trials and tribulations. The Mugician is Keyon upholding his mother's wisdom.
Keyon Harrold has become one of the most sought-after trumpeters in the world having been featured on nearly 100 albums spanning jazz, R&B, pop, gospel, blues, and hip-hop. Harrold has recorded with the world's leading artists from Maxwell to Keith Richards and has toured with music's most bold-faced names including BeyoncÉ, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Common, Maxwell, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, D'Angelo and the Vanguard, and more. In 2016, Keyon released "Running (Refugee Song)" in collaboration with songwriting partner Andrea Pizziconi as part of their initiative Compositions for a Cause. Band of BrothersIN A CELEBRATED CAREER
that's extended over a half century,
Willie Nelson is immediately recognizable as one of our nation's most
celebrated singer-songwriters. After almost two decades, he's putting both of
those unique talents together with an
all-new album of predominantly original
material, titled, Band Of Brothers.
Willie Nelson's musical gifts ring as
true as ever, and they're brilliantly
captured on this brand new album. 14
new recordings, nine of which feature
new music and lyrics written by Willie,
comprise in one of his most personal
albums in years. The man who penned
elegant country standards from "Crazy"
to "Funny How Time Slips Away" is
in rare form with deeply introspective
tracks including "The Wall" and "Send
Me A Picture." Elsewhere, songs like
the rollicking "Wives And Girlfriends"
and "Used To Her" prove his continued
gift for wit and wisdom when it comes
to affairs of the heart. Willie also
delivers signature interpretations of
Vince Gill's "Whenever You Come
Around", Billy Joe Shaver's "The Git
Go" (a duet with Jamey Johnson)
and Billy Anderson's aptly-titled
"Songwriter". Buddy Cannon returns
as producer and co-writer, having
collaborated with Willie on all four of
his albums for Legacy.
Band Of Brothers comes hot on
the heels of a whirlwind of activity
surrounding the legendary performer,
already a Lifetime Achievement
Grammy Award winner, a Kennedy
Center honoree and one of the rst
recipients of a lifetime achievement
award from the National Academy
of Popular Music. Nelson, whose
association with the Sony Music family
goes back to his 1964 signing to RCA
Records and an extraordinary stint with
Columbia Records from 1975 to 1993,
signed to Legacy Recordings in 2012,
releasing the acclaimed Heroes that
same year, followed by Let's Face The
Music And Dance (2013), a collection
of pop, jazz and country standards.
To All The Girls..., a collection of new
duets with eighteen female duet
partners, was released in October
2013, becoming Nelson's first Top 10
placement on the pop charts in over
30 years. Having turned 80 last year,
Willie shows no signs of slowdown,

SONM-LEG-0811xJimi Hendrix Experience
Carefully Restored From The Original Analog Master Tapes
Carefully restored from the original analog master tapes, featuring original poster and alternate cover art, the Legacy edition of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Smash Hits includes timeless classics like Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Red House (a different take from the UK Are You Experienced version), Fire plus 8 more essential Hendrix tracks. First released in 1969, Smash Hits has proved to be immensely popular, serving as a critical introduction to the Hendrix canon for successive generations of fans.
This 2016 edition of Smash Hits includes a recreation of the poster that came with the original U.S. LP release, depicting band members Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding dressed in western attire on horseback. The photograph, taken by Grammy-winning photographer Ed Thrasher (Grateful Dead, Neil Young, the Beach Boys) at Warner Bros. film studios in Burbank, CA in early 1969, was conceived as sleeve art for the album. Now, for the first time ever, Thrasher's photo finally graces the cover of Smash Hits, as originally intended.1. Purple Haze
