OST Of The Multiple Award Winning 2012 Movie By Steven Spielberg

Music Composed By Multiple Award Winner John Williams

    First Time On Vinyl!

Lincoln is a 2012 American epic historical drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Daniel Day-Lewis as United States President Abraham Lincoln. The movie covers the final four months of Lincoln's life, focusing on the President's efforts in January 1865 to have the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution passed by the United States House of Representatives.

Lincoln received widespread critical acclaim, with major praise directed to the acting. The film was nominated for seven Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director for Spielberg and winning Best Actor (Motion Picture - Drama) for Day-Lewis. At the 85th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for twelve Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director; it won for Best Production Design and Best Actor for Day-Lewis.

John Williams composed and conducted the score. The score was recorded by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Chorus.

Lincoln is now finally available on vinyl for the first time. The first pressing of 750 copies is pressed on Union Blue vinyl.

    Straight Ahead (Pure Pleasure)

This is one of Abbey Lincoln's greatest recordings. It is a testament to the credibility of her very honest music (and her talents) that Lincoln's sidemen on this date include the immortal tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins who takes a memorable solo on Blue Monk), Eric Dolphy on flute and alto, trumpeter Booker Little (whose melancholy tone is very important in the ensembles), pianist Mal Waldron , and drummer Max Roach. Highpoints include When Malindy Sings, Blue Monk, Billie Holiday's Left Alone, and African Lady.

Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach were married in 1962, an association that lasted until 1970. They worked together for a while but Lincoln (who found it harder to get work in jazz due to the political nature of some of her music) became involved in acting and did not record as a leader during 1962-1972. She finally recorded for Inner City in 1973 and gradually became more active in jazz. Her two Billie Holiday tribute albums for Enja (1987) showed listeners that the singer was still in her prime and she has recorded several excellent sets for Verve in the 1990s. Because she puts so much thought into each of her recordings, it is not an understatement to say that every Abbey Lincoln set is well worth owning.

    Musicians:

    • Abbey Lincoln (vocal)

    • Eric Dolphy (piccolo-flute, bass clarinet, alto saxophone)

    • Walter Benton, Coleman Hawkins (tenor saxophone)

    • Booker Little (trumpet)

    • Julian Priester (trombone)

    • Mal Waldron (piano)

    • Art Davis (bass)

    • Max Roach (drums)

    • Roger Sanders, Robert Whiteley (conga)

Recording: February 1961 at Nola Penthouse Studios, New York City

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

UUVVWWZ is an avant-blues quartet from Lincoln Nebraska, comprised of Teal Gardner, Jim Schroeder, Dustin Wilbourn, and David Ozinga. They have been playing as UU for five years and have put out one album previously, a self-titled record that was screech-cronky, clubbier, and babier than our current work, the trusted language.

They took two years to write this album, and in the trusted language they aspire to braid music theory with experimental poetry, which functions as a conduit toward a schizo-cultural critique and embodied project. From their previous record to the trusted language listeners will note a development, a shift resulting in an exceedingly unified perspective that is more acutely political and cohesive sounding.

    Young Guns Soundtrack

The Young Guns original motion picture score has never been released until now!

Released in 1988, Young Guns is an action-packed cult classic 80s western that tells the story of Billy the Kid (Emilio Estevez) and the Regulators (Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko) exacting revenge upon the Santa Fe Ring during the Lincoln County War in 1878. As good as the movie is, the score is what makes it great!

Composed by Anthony Marinelli & Brian Banks, the Young Guns score brilliantly embodies the off-kilter, emotionally unstable characteristics of Billy the Kid, both the man and the myth. It is epic and powerful, but equally haunting with an underlying melancholy tone.

The album is mastered from the original recordings and pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl for the enhanced listening pleasure of all you audiophiles out there!

    Vibes Of Truth

Vibes Of Truth is a masterpiece that covers all the bases: from soul through funk to jazz. It's been sought-after by collectors for the three club friendly tunes within its grooves: Backed Up Against The Wall, Concrete Jungle and I Need You Girl. The album was brought to Fantasy by Donald Byrd who was enjoying great success with his productions for the Blackbyrds for them and his own jazz fusion albums on Blue Note.

The Blackbyrds were former students of his from the ethnomusicology course he taught at Washington's Howard University just as was Lincoln Ross, the multi-instrumentalist leader of the 3 Pieces. Although the 3 Pieces failed to repeat the success of the Blackbyrds they created an amazing album.

Rat Film marks Deacon's first full record devoted to modern composition. In between his four ecstatic electronic-pop albums, Deacon has frequently flexed the 21st-century classical muscles he first developed studying at SUNY Purchase's Conservatory of Music. He's provided soundtracks for film and stage giants ranging from Francis Ford Coppola's Twixt to New York City Ballet's presentation of Justin Peck's "The Times Are Racing." Deacon's array of compositional commissions includes pieces with Kronos Quartet at Lincoln Center, Sigur Rós at the L.A. Philharmonic, and So Percussion at the Barbican Centre.

Rat Film offers the first recorded document of this parallel career-and both as a self-contained album and a companion piece to an equally potent film, it astounds.

Various Artists with Original Motion Picture Score by Cliff Martinez. A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.

The soundtrack features original music by Cliff Martinez (The Lincoln Lawyer, Traffic) with Eurosynth-styled songs by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx (''Nightcall''), The Chromatics (''Tick of the Clock''), Desire (''Under Your Spell''), College featuring Electric Youth (''A Real Hero''), and Riziero Ortolani featuring Katyna Ranieri (''Oh My Love''). Rolling Stone Magazine named Drive the No. 1 movie of 2011.

The Drive soundtrack raced to the top of the iTunes album charts, hitting No. 4 within a week of its digital release and peaking at No. 35 on the Billboard Top 200. The soundtrack re-entered the charts in February 2012 when the film was released on DVD.

''One thing that was unique for me about this project was having songs exert such a strong influence on the score,'' said Martinez. ''That helped to create a unified, one-size-fits-all, style of soundtrack... the 80s electronic pop style made a lot of sense to me. I knew that Nicolas [Refn, director] was in love with that sound and I saw a way to acknowledge it with vintage synth sounds and cover most of the dramatic food groups while referencing that style.''

This blending of score and song is the perfect vehicle for Cliff Martinez. Martinez moved to California in 1976, just in time for the punk movement. He had stints as drummer for the Weirdos, Lydia Lunch and Foetus frontman Jim Thirlwell, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dickies. He was also the drummer in the final incarnation of legendary iconoclasts Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.

Martinez has since received compositional credit on many of Steven Soderbergh's projects including Kafka, The Limey, Solaris, Gray's Anatomy, Schizopolis, Traffic (which earned four Oscars and earned Martinez a Grammy nomination), and the upcoming film Contagion. He also composed the music for Espion(s) and A L'Origine, two French films released in 2009 - the latter earned a Cesar Award nomination for best original score. His other credits include Pump Up The Volume, Wicker Park, Wonderland, and The Lincoln Lawyer.

    Love This Giant

Recorded over two years largely at Water Music in Hoboken, NJ, the album is a collaboration in the truest sense of the word, with Byrne and St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) co-writing ten of the album's twelve tracks, and each artist penning one song individually. The album centers around an explosive brass band and is propelled by John Congleton's drum programming!

There was no delineating what the roles were, explains Clark of the recording. It's a collaboration I'm truly proud of. The duo also split lyrical and vocal duties on the record, which despite eschewing a traditional guitar/bass/drums lineup in favor of idiosyncratic horn arrangements, presents itself as infectious and modern hook-laden rock.

Byrne and Clark met in 2009 at the 'Dark Was the Night' benefit at Radio City Music Hall and were approached shortly after by the Housing Works Bookstore to collaborate on a night of music. They began composing remotely, trading song ideas and structures online while Clark toured and it quickly became apparent that they had more than just one night of music in them!!

Byrne performed with Clark at her 'American Songbook' show at Lincoln Center in 2010, and Clark contributed vocals to Byrne's Here Lies Love album, released the same year.

The Shiny Toy Guns (STG) are a four piece alternative, electronic, dance and punk-rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 2003. Born in the indie/electro scenes of the early 2000s, STG released their first album, We Are Pilots, in 2006 via Universla Motown Republic with acclaimed success, selling over 300K plus albums and garnering a Grammy nomination on the strength of the three mainstream alt-rock singles, Le Disko, You Are The One, and Rainy Monday.

Although the band enjoyed the above success and notoriety from their first album campaign, internationaly, the band developed communication breakdowns between the primary songwriters (Jeremy and Chad) and their female singer, Carah Faye. Frustrations grew and during the recording and writing process of STG's second album, Carah and the band dramatically parted ways.

The band then enlisted Sisely Treasure to take Carah's place for Season of Poison. The abum's first single Ricochet! climbed to #17 on the ALT chart. In 2009, the band released the Pete Schilling cover Major Tom, which was a single from the band's remix album, Girls Le Disko, and was featured in a 2010 Lincoln MKZ commercial.

STG's new album III marks the return of Carah Faye as their lead singer and the return to their pioneering synth-pop and DIY ethic, with a collection of exuberant, intensely personal songs about life, love, loss and redemption. Highlights include Waiting Alone, Somewhere To Hide, Speaking Japanese and the Fleetwood Mac inspired Fading Listening. Gatefold double 180g vinyl from Five Seven Music.

Their self-titled debut studio album was released in 1996 and contains the hits Sink To The Bottom and Radiation Vibe. Recorded when the band was just a duo, Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger provided almost all the instrumentation during the recording. Schlesinger and Porter had also been members of The Belltower, and bassist Danny Weinkauf later played with Lincoln before joining They Might Be Giants.

Written over a period of years as outlets to make each other laugh through inside jokes and references to suburban life in New York and New Jersey, the songs on the album were recorded in five days. The songwriting is straightforward and wonderful; nearly every song is a Pop gem. The result is an innovative album - very few albums released in the '90s have been this pleasant, charming, and all-round likeable.

Exhilarating and Immediate: Live Set Documents One of Davis Final Excursions With a Program of Standards

Hear the Interior of Philharmonic Hall at New Yorks Lincoln Center Come Alive: Mobile Fidelitys Fastidious Reissue Illuminates Venue Acoustics, Musicians Phrasings

Whirlwind Uptempo Pace Prodded by Tenor Saxophonist George Coleman and Drummer Tony Williams

Sketches of Spain, Kind of Blue, Milestones, Round About Midnight, and In a Silent Way Also Available from Mobile Fidelity

Given his gargantuan recorded output, Miles Davis seldom abandoned a conceptual vision in the studio, particularly after the turn of the 1960s. Which makes a live document such as Four & More all the more valuable for the manner in which it portrays the legendary trumpeter removed from thematic demands and interior confines, and instead letting loose onstage with a program of stellar material that hed soon abandon in favor of experimentalism.

Part of Mobile Fidelitys Miles Davis catalog restoration series, Four & More engages with electrifying speed and palpable punch, the effort now claiming vastly improved imaging, deeper soundstaging, and startling clarity. Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, this unsurpassed analog edition teems with the urgency demonstrated by Davis and his band notes flooding the listener with an attack only possible from sound featuring full frequency extension, tremendous spacing, and you-are-there immediacy.

Recorded on February 12, 1964 in Philharmonic Hall at New Yorks Lincoln Center, Four & More bookends My Funny Valentine. Whereas the latter spotlights ballads, this thrilling souvenir is all about quick tempos, rushing solos, left-hook rhythms, and hard-bop grooves. Drawing largely on mid- and late-1950s material, Davis accompanied by bassist Ron Carter, drummer Tony Williams, saxophonist George Coleman, and pianist Herbie Hancock approaches standards such as So What, Seven Steps to Heaven, and Four with biting tenacity and furious passion, the individual themes racing by as the collective barges in to take rapid, punctuation-asserting solos.

Few, if any, live Davis performances match the hurricane-generating intensity and dynamic aggressiveness captured here. One reason for the vigor? Davis waived he and his musicians fees for the concert, taking place under the auspices of a political benefit, a decision that angered some of his sidemen. Whatever the cause, Hancock swings, Coleman flexes muscles, Carter bows instructive passages, and the 19-year-old phenom Williams throws down with breathtaking agility. Amidst the melodic tangents and galloping exchanges, the quintet retains gripping control, with eight-bar dialogues between the instrumentalists and positive vamps supplying cues and endings.

At last, these historic recordings are afforded the breathing room and acoustic perspective they've always deserved. For listeners that may be unfamiliar with this title, prepare to be blown away literally and figuratively. Aficionados know what to expect on the music front, but Mobile Fidelitys 180g LP reissue ratchets up the thrills by several levels. Don't miss this gem.

With over 1,000,000 Gov't Mule albums sold to date and over 2,000,000 downloads sold through Mule.net,
Gov't Mule is one of the most successful and respected bands in the world. Once lauded by Rolling Stone for successfully bringing the classic power-trio sound of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience into the 21st century - the band has completed work on 'By A Thread'. Their first studio album in three years.

Recorded largely at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album's origins are apparent from the first track, "Broke Down On The Brazos," named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring the trademark guitar-work of ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons. Perhaps less descriptively named,
"Steppin' Lightly" is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes, who proves anew why Rolling Stone named him one of the Top 25 guitarists of all time.

Other highlights include the lament "Railroad Boy," informed by both Celtic tradition and the Mississippi Delta; the expansive psych-rock of 'Monday Mourning Meltdown"; and the optimistic 'Frozen Fear," with
its lush harmony and even a hint of rocksteady skank. In recent months, Haynes has been spectacularly busy in his other dual roles as guitarist and singer for The Allman Brothers, who recently wrapped an epic stand 15 night stand at NYC's Beacon, and The Dead, where he recently drew raves from USA Today:
"Haynes has the toughest role to fill... he did so masterfully."

Gov't Mule tour dates this summer included Mountain Jam, Bonnaroo Music Festival, Rothbury Music Festival, The Weesner Amphitheatre in Minneapolis MN, Mile High Music Festival in Denver, CO, Minglewood Music Hall in Memphis, TN, Sloss Furnace in Birmingham AL, The Fillmore in Charlotte NC, Masquerade
Music Park in Atlanta GA, Lincoln Theatre Street Stage in Raleigh NC, Innsbrook Pavilion in Richmond VA, National Harbor Pavilion in Washington DC, Bank of America Pavilion in Boston MA, Ives
Concert Park in Danbury, CT, Rocks The Harbor in Buffalo NY, RiverPlex in Pittsburgh PA, The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair NJ, Party in the Park in Rochester NY.

    Friday Night

Includes Seven Tracks Not Previously Available

Friday Night is a live album of performances from Will Butler's tour
supporting his first album Policy. It was recorded mostly at Lincoln Hall in
Chicago on June 4, 2015. Five of the songs are from Policy, two are songs
written for the Guardian newspaper last year, and five are new.

This record exists partly because I had a really good band, and I wanted to
document it. Miles Arntzen (EMEFE, Antibalas) played drums (standing
up at a full kit-he didn't use a hi-hat pedal, so he could stand on that leg
while working the kick drum with the other). Julie Shore played synth bass.
Sara Dobbs played synth leads and Mellotron pads. Everybody sang backing
    vocals.

We started almost every show with "You Must Be Kidding." I thought the
album should start in medias res to welcome the listener into a sweaty room
with a tired, happy band and a loose crowd. So the album starts with the
encore "Tell Me We're All Right" which was only ever played once, and this is
the recording of it. We never soundchecked it. It wasn't even written yet (you
might be able to tell). But Miles plays some magical fills, Sara and Julie jump
in with good harmonies, and the crowd even begins a spontaneous call-and response
at the end ("You're all right!").

This record also exists because I wrote a lot of new songs and the band
got good at playing them, and I wanted to put them out to the wider world.
Sometimes an artist will take a new song into the studio and polish it until
there's nothing left. I wanted these songs to avoid that fate.

Think of this as a comedy record. In some ways literally-Brooklyn comedian
Jo Firestone does the introduction and the "solo" in "Friday Night"-but
also, it's an album based on working out ideas in a room full of people, playing
off their energy and expectations. It's about taking complicated emotions
and wringing communal joy from them, and then translating that joy onto
    record. So here you go!

    Newport Rebels (Pure Pleasure)

The jazz experience just doesn't get any better than this! Newport Rebels was nominated for Sterophile's Records To Die For because of Roy Eldridge's ballsy, all-out trumpet playing on Mysterious Blues and Me and You. Eldridge approached the horn as if neither he nor it had limits - his electrifying, perfectly paced solos prove him right. Neither do the other musicians disappoint. The result is jazz tastefully stretched beyond traditional roots. And the late-1960s, direct-to-two-track recording guarantees a natural sound with few production artifacts.

    Musicians:

    • Abbey Lincoln (vocal)

    • Booker Little, Benny Bailey, Roy Eldridge (trumpet)

    • Jimmy Knepper, Julian Priester (trombone)

    • Walter Benton (tenor saxophone)

    • Kenny Dorham, Tommy Flanagan (piano)

    • Charles Mingus, Peck Morrison (bass)

    • Max Roach, Jo Jones (drums)

Recording: November 1960 at the Newport Jazz Festival, Rhode Island, and Nola Penthouse Studios, New York City

    Production: Nat Hentoff

    Folk Art (Pure Pleasure)

Jazz is essentially an African-American folk art, elements not lost on Joe Lovano as he presents this all-original program of progressive music. His updated quintet Us Five is one of his freshest units in some time, with bassist Esperanza Spalding, the criminally underrated pianist James Weidman, and two stir-the-pot drummers in Francisco Mela and Otis Brown III. Together they fulfill Lovano's vision as a band that is not afraid to take many chances, stay within a bop-based tradition, and cut loose on many levels in terms of adding diverse elements to this mix of music. Lovano is noticeably restless, using his reliable tenor sax, but also straight alto, clarinet, and taragato. The drummers not only play their standard kits, but ethnic percussion instruments from many continents, while Spalding is maturing and growing exponentially into a formidable voice on her instrument. Weidman is simply brilliant throughout, largely ignored since his early days with Abbey Lincoln until now, but there's no reason he should be so underestimated or slighted.

    Liquid Spirit

Liquid Spirit is the remarkable major label debut from GRAMMY-nominated jazz and soul singer Gregory Porter. The 14-track album is further justification for Porter's quick ascent into the top ranks of jazz and R&B singers today, and it also features 10 new originals which showcase Porter's innate gift for writing poignant songs based upon personal experiences with a relatable and emotional immediacy. Also included is a stirring rendition of the jazz standard "I Fall In Love Too Easily," as well as covers of Abbey Lincoln's "Lonesome Lover" and Ramsey Lewis' hit "The 'In' Crowd."

"I firmly consider myself a jazz singer but I enjoy blues, southern soul, and gospel," says Porter. "Those elements make their way inside my music. And I've always heard them in jazz." Indeed, Porter wields one of the most captivating baritone voices in music today. It emits enormous soul that conveys both the emotions and intellect of any given song without relying on vocal histrionics. In The New York Times, Nate Chinen wrote: "Gregory Porter has most of what you want in a male jazz singer, and maybe a thing or two you didn't know you wanted." Jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater praised Porter in the pages of JazzTimes by saying, "We haven't had a male singer like him in a long time. He's such a wonderful writer. He's a story teller."

On Liquid Spirit, Porter retains the same core musicians that accompanied him on his previous two albums - pianist and music director, Chip Crawford, drummer Emanuel Harrold, bassist Aaron James, alto saxophonist Yosuke Sato, and tenor saxophonist Tivon Pennicott. On a few selections, Porter complements that ensemble with trumpeter Curtis Taylor, and organist Glenn Patscha. Producer Brian Bacchus also returns, as well as arranger and associate producer Kamau Kenyatta.

Porter sees Liquid Spirit as a logical progression in his burgeoning discography as it touches on some of the same themes, particularly the highs and lows of romance, his childhood, and socio-political observations. More pointedly, he views the title-track, a rousing, hand-clapping gospel-jazz romp, dealing with replenishing "thirsty" listeners with more substantial music, as the flipside to last year's "Bling Bling," a blistering song on his previous album Be Good on which the protagonist had so many artistic gifts to give but no one to give them to. Similar sentiments occur on "Musical Genocide," on which Crawford hammers a dark rhythmic figure against James' bluesy bass accompaniment as Porter declares his refusal of accepting the insistent squashing of quality, diverse music and culture by a mainstream in favor of disposable, homogenized pap.

In part, these songs are based upon Porter's reflections on new fans, worldwide, who come to him saying, "Where have you been?" or "How come I've never heard you before." "Not saying that I am 'what is,' Porter says, "But I think maybe what I'm doing is what people actually want to hear. There are some people who want that liquid spirit - a soulful, thoughtful sound - and they haven't been getting it."

Big Band And Quartet In Concert (Speakers Corner)

Thelonious Monk could walk from his flat to New York's famous Philharmonic Hall on the corner of 64th Street and Broadway when he made his very first appearance there with his Big Band in December 1963. And the other musicians could get there on the underground: Phil Woods, Steve Lacy, Thad Jones - all of them were members of Monk's closest circle of collaborators. It is no wonder then that the well-known themes were highly agreeable and harmonious. I Mean You, Four In One and Epistrophy resounded through the auditorium, the audience was thrilled, Thelonious laughed and danced and a short while later fans could listen to parts of the concert on a recording released by Columbia Records. In a break for a smoke, Monk sat himself down at the piano and played Darkness On The Delta - nocturnal atmosphere pure.

Does it bear the patina of times long past? Absolutely not! Thelonious Monk is as red-hot as he ever was.

    Musicians:

    • Thelonious Monk (piano)

    • Charlie Rouse (tenor saxophone)

    • Steve Lacy (soprano saxophone)

    • Phil Woods (alto saxophone, clarinet)
