Live At Red Rocks'
Live At Hammersmith (Awaiting Repress)
England's most distinctive, multiple award-winning, platinum-selling, hugely entertaining rock gods The Darkness have announced the release of their live album The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith, set for release via Cooking Vinyl.
The album captures The Darkness on sterling form at their iconic London headline show at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo in December last year. In true Darkness spandex-clad fashion it featured huge riffs, mighty bass faces, seismic drumming, hair-raising falsetto, Justin Hawkins acrobatics, gigantic disco balls and a whole lotta pyro.
The Darkness - Live At Hammersmith spans their spectacular back catalog of five albums across 19 incendiary tracks.
Regarding the live album Justin says, "The Darkness is untamed. It cannot be caged. Some very clever recording engineers have discovered a way to capture its essence; all that remains is for us to release it back into the wild.
"Life is about experiences, not possessions. This is your opportunity to possess the experience of The Darkness Live, as perceived by your ears, leaving your eyes free to scan the road ahead for obstacles, or to watch Emmerdale with the sound off, or to mould clay, or to darn socks, or to look at the beautiful artwork in this magnificent gatefold. Release yourself into The Darkness - Live at Hammersmith."
The Darkness headlined Hammersmith as part of their extensive Tour De Prance, in support of their latest critically acclaimed Top 10 album Pinewood Smile. The tour saw the band sell out shows across the UK and Europe last year. They are currently on a mammoth 27-date tour of the US, Canada and Mexico.1. Open Fire

In RockMastered by Joe Reagoso from the Original Warner Bros Tapes at Friday Music Studios and at Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA
1970 was truly a successful turning point year for hard rock legends Deep Purple. The band changed directions and after recording a series of well received albums in the late '60s, they returned to the studio with a new Mark II band line-up and recorded the epoch game changer Deep Purple In Rock.
This superstar act now featured the much revered line up of the original guitar hero Ritchie Blackmore, keyboard great Jon Lord, power drummer Ian Paice, and new cohorts, the superlative Roger Glover on bass and soon to be superstar vocalist Ian Gillan. Deep Purple and their masterwork Deep Purple In Rock truly paved the way for a lot of the hard rock and metal bands of today with the music contained on this legendary release.
As with their continuing expansion into the Deep Purple catalog, Friday Music announces the first time 180g Audiophile Vinyl release of the original U.S. version of Deep Purple In Rock. This mega hard rock classic comes with all of the great tunes you remember like Speed King, Child In Time, Hard Lovin Man and Living Wreck.
Like their other fine Deep Purple releases, this classic has been mastered by Joe Reagoso (Deep Purple/Yes/Alice Cooper) from the original Warner Bros. tapes at Friday Music Studios and at Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA.
As another fine feature of this limited edition release, Friday Music has also included the original gatefold LP artwork, not seen since its original Warner Bros. vinyl release in 1970.1. Speed King

Live At Roadburn 2008Special 10-Year Anniversary Edition Of The Wolves In The Throne Room Break Through Live Performance At The Prestigious Roadburn Festival.
New Artwork By Chimaire Noire (Wolves In The Throne Room/Profound Lore)
Vinyl Includes Poster
The Performance Was Recorded Live At The Roadburn Festival, April 19, 2008, At 013, Tilburg, Netherlands. Mixed And Mastered At Torture Garden Studio, Oss, Netherlands
Wolves in the Throne Room re-imagined black metal as an ode to rainstorms, wood smoke and the wild energies of the PacificNorthwest. They are considered as one of the most potent and highly regarded bands in heavy metal today. Now, a portal into their mythic ethereal heathen landscape opens once again. Wolves' performances are all about channeling emotions and luring the audience into a meditative state; Aaron Weaver has gone so far as to say he wants people to "lay on the floor and cry" during the shows. The songs each contain several parts, from the soaring climax of "Vastness and Sorrow" to the trance-like introduction of "Cleansing", making the album feel like an epic journey through desolate worlds and beautiful landscapes. Indeed, the band cites post-metal giants Neurosis as an inspiration for how their music "operates on a deep and intense mythical level". Wolves' music is a very personal experience; there is no fist-pumping, there are no mosh pits, only your mind and the places - majestic, bleak, burned and reborn, that the music takes it. Seeing the band live is an experience that can't be recreated anywhere else, but Live at Roadburn is a suitably fierce and meditative addition to Wolves' excellent catalogue.

LiveSundazed Music is proud to present a genuine psychedelic landmark: Live by Moby Grape, the first official collection of concert recordings by the legendary San Francisco band at its blazing late-Sixties peak. At that time, in rock's hippest city, there was no other band like the original Grape: Jerry Miller, Skip Spence, Bob Mosley, Peter Lewis and Don Stevenson. Their Columbia debut LP, Moby Grape, issued in June 1967, is still acclaimed as one of the greatest rock albums evera thrilling union of blues, soul, country, surf twang and day-glo garage rock, packed into original killer-pop songwriting. Even as extreme Columbia hype, devastating business hassles and Spence's tragic mental collapse threatened to blow up the band, the Grape continued to make immortal albums, including 1968's Wow and the magnificent Moby Grape '69.
But the records told only half of the tale. Moby Grape, in their prime, were also one of the Bay Area'sand America'sbest stage bands, like the Beatles and Rolling Stones in one, with a breathtaking triple-guitar attack and stunning vocal harmonies.
Live is the long-awaited proof. It features more than an hour of dynamite performances from soundboard and broadcast tapes, including tracks from the Avalon Ballroom in 1967 and the band's complete long-lost set at the Monterey Pop Festival, just a week after Moby Grape came out. There are live versions of the great rare Grape songs Rounder and Looper and five tracks from a famous Dutch radio show featuring the hard-charging '69 lineup of Miller, Mosley, Lewis and Stevenson.
And Live climaxes with the historic first-ever release of Spence's acid-guitar masterpiece Dark Magicnever recorded in the studio by the original band but presented here in an epic 17-minute performance at the Avalon, on New Year's Eve 1966. Moby Grape were the hottest band in town that night, with the whole rock & roll world ahead of them. And they sound like it. These four-decade-old recordings have been spectacularly mastered, in you-are-there fidelity, and this album comes with sumptuous packaging and rare photos, in true Sundazed style, plus liner notes by Rolling Stone writer and Moby Grape authority David Fricke. Live presents, at last, the untold part of Moby Grape's incredible story. It is San Francisco psychedelia at its zenith and the best historical rock release of the year.1. Red Beans And Weiss
Executive Produced By Johnny Depp and Tom Waits
Which Chuck E. Weiss do we talk about here? The one who so impressed blues legends Lightnin'
Hopkins and Willie Dixon as a Denver teenager that they took him out in their road bands? The one
who lived in LA's Tropicana Hotel in the 70s alongside Tom Waits and Rickie Lee Jones, ending up
namechecked on the classic Waits albums Small Change and Nighthawks at the Diner, and in Rickie Lee Jones' hit "Chuck E.'s in Love"? The one who has recorded with Tom Waits, Muddy Waters,
Howlin' Wolf, Roger Miller, Dr. John, Willie Dixon? Whichever Chuck E. Weiss you choose, he's a

Angel Guts: Red ClassroomAngel Guts: Red Classroom is the beginning of Xiu Xiu's descent from grayness into the deepest blackness endurable. It is the sound of Xiu Xiu's death.
This is a bold proposition, even for a band that has never so much pushed the envelope as pulled it (forcefully) away from the line other musicians are willing to toe. And now, in what is unquestionably their darkest hour, Xiu Xiu have lit the envelope on fire and are using it as a torch to light the path ahead.
Having spent the previous four years living in North Carolina, primary songwriter Jamie Stewart relocated to Los Angeles, moving blindly into a neighborhood whose notoriously dangerous reputation was unknown to him.
A park divided among four gangs, a lake routinely dragged for bodies, a building wherein two infant skeletons were recently uncovered -- the aura of his new home bleeds into every pore of the album, each lyric and note bearing traces of its essence: the terrible beauty, the despair, the violence, the ultra humanity, the uncertainty.
I know to a degree I must have romanticized it, Stewart admits, But when it's not safe to go out at night, what else can one?
Romanticized is hardly the word anyone other than Stewart would use. Like its namesake, a Japanese erotic noir film, Angel Guts: Red Classroom is as radical as it is inventive. The subject matter -- racialized sex, double suicide, double penetration, criminality, fear of physical harm -- is unsuitable for the faint of heart. But when the heart has stopped beating, only the soul remains to carry on. And here, Stewart transcribes his without boundaries.
Your face is down alone / On your desk / At the end of the city / You were squashed into / There is no one you love. So begins the album's first verse.
In the wrong hands, such topics could be rendered as far-fetched fantasies. But Stewart's evocative vocals lend his provocative lyrics the balance they need, grounding them in a stark realism that forces us to acknowledge their existence, even confront them (as discomforting as that is).
Unsettling, too, is the music. Working with only analog synths, drum set, and 1970's analog drum machines, Xiu Xiu has never before sounded so focused, so captivating, so intent on delivering a kick to the throat.
Though influences can be cited (Suicide, Kraftwerk, Nico, EinstÜrzende Neubauten), they are ultimately far less relevant than the mark this album will leave on other musicians and music fans from this point forward.
Take Stupid in the Dark -- its tone ominous and pulsing, its harmonies simple and direct, its grip unrelenting. Or Botanica de Los Angeles, a sparse, yet undeniably anthemic merging of bruising drums and bone-rattling bass synths.
Unbearably dark, yet incredibly illuminating, on the John Congleton-produced Angel Guts: Red Classroom Xiu Xiu continues to forge (and at times risk) its reputation as avant-garde pioneers. It is the work of a band unraveling to its core and exposing the boldness within.

Live At The Jazz MillPressed On Red Vinyl
Unearthed tape from a jazz icon. Thanks to a 21-year-old with a tape machine, we can all experience the majesty of guitar legend Barney Kessel at his 1954 best!
Even if you don't know Barney Kessel, you know Barney Kessel -- as a first-string member of the group of LA session musicians nicknamed The Wrecking Crew, Kessel's guitar is heard on just about every LA-based hit you'd care to name from the 60s, including songs by the Monkees and The Beach Boys' legendary Smile LP. And that's Kessel's playing on the famous fight music from the Star Trek TV series. He was regarded as the very best of the session guitarists by just about everyone around, and guitarists everywhere site him as an influence.
But before he played rock and roll, Kessel was a jazz pioneer -- as one of the leading lights of the hard-bop movement, his jazz guitar was legendary, and he was ranked the No. 1 guitarist in Down Beat and Playboy for numerous years. He played with Sonny Rollins and Oscar Peterson (and Chico Marx -- yes, that Chico Marx!) as well as leading his own super-tight group. On albums such as The Poll Winners, Kessel defined the bop style with a jazz power trio, creating a body of work that made him a legend.
Live At The Jazz Mill is a unique artifact -- recorded on a tape recorder by young jazz fan Jack Miller, this live recording catches Barney Kessel in the middle of his run at the Jazz Mill with a great four-piece band. The collection, gleaned from a couple of nights' best recordings, features Kessel's spirited take on such Songbook classics as Get Happy and Stardust, not to mention the Gershwin great Embraceable You. It's pressed on red vinyl and wrapped in a sleeve which captures the unique vibe of jazz graphics of the 1950s. Get with Barney Kessel, and get with a true pioneer of the jazz form!1. Live At Maida Vale BBC (Awaiting Repress)Taken from their performance on BBC Radio 1's Rock Show in July 2012, just a month before their bus crash in Bath, Baroness have released a limited run of their Maida Vale BBC sessions via Relapse Records on 12" vinyl with gorgeous artwork by the talented John Baizley.
All four tracks are taken from their 2012 release Yellow and Green and are the carefully selected, anthemic songs 'Take My Bones Away', 'March To The Sea', 'Cocanium' and 'The Line Between'. Disappointingly there is only one track selected from the 'Green' side of the album, however, the quality of the 'Yellow' selection more than makes up for this absence.
Baroness sound at their best when unrefined and not held by the constraints of studio production; the vocals are imperfect and the instrumentals are raw as hell, but there is a certain charm to this and it suits the band immensely.
Of course there is the pang of longing that comes from listening to a live album that makes you wish you were there, however, this quickly abated by the reassurance that you didn't miss a huge live show, as this is a radio performance. Sit back, relax and enjoy the energy and the flaws as one.

Live At Royal Albert Hall 1971From their earliest days as 12-string-wielding folk-rockers, to the thrilling psychedelic excursions of their raga-rock period to their 1968 birthing of country-rock, the Byrds were always accorded a heros welcome in England. What better place to record founding Byrds member/guitarist/singer Roger McGuinns new version of the bandfeaturing fretboard ace Clarence White, bassist Skip Battin and drummer Gene Parsonsthan Londons Royal Albert Hall!

Rock Out With Dick Dale And His Del-Tones (Live At Ciro's)Prior to his emergence as a recording artist, surf guitar king Dick Dale first carved out his legend as a live performer. The artist's incendiary early shows in front of raucous surfer crowds at Balboa Beach's Rendezvous Ballroom established Dale as a regional sensation, and in the process helped to put surf music on the map. After he became an international star, Dale and his longstanding band the Del-Tones maintained the energy and innovation of their early performances, expanding their reputation as a peerless live act.
In 1965, Dale captured the infectious spirit of his live shows with this album, recorded on stage at the fabled Hollywood nightclub Ciro's. This vintage LP offers a bracing snapshot of the trailblazing guitar hero at his string-shredding best, tearing into his classic Let's Go Trippin', and applying his head-spinning instrumental fire to such diverse tunes as Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn, Lee Hazlewood's Angry Generation and Bob Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind. He also unveils his underrated vocal skills on riveting readings of Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues, Barrett Strong's Money and Ray Charles' What'd I Say.
Out of print on vinyl for decades, the Sundazed edition of Rock Out with Dick Dale and His Del-Tones (Live at Ciro's) has been mastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl, with completely restored original cover art.1. Peter Gun

Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur RussellMaster Mix' embodies the genre-defying, experimental spirit that defined Russell's work. Living in the East Village from the '70s until his untimely death in 1992 at age 40 from AIDS-related causes, Russell moved effortlessly between the city's various music scenes, recording disco beats alongside Nicky Siano one night, and the next, crafting slow, haunting tracks in his apartment with his cello and idiosyncratic warbling voice. The New Yorker called his work "stranded between lands real and imagined: the street and the cornfield; the soft bohemian New York and the hard Studio 54 New York; the cheery bold strokes of pop and the liberating possibilities of abstract art." Through his collaborations, he earned the admiration of artists like Allen Ginsberg, David Byrne and Philip Glass, who said of Russell's music: "It does not submit to formula, but subverts the formula." The record features 26 tracks by more than 20 artists, including Hot Chip, Sufjan Stevens, Phosphorescent, Blood Orange, The Autumn Defense and Lonnie Holley, paying homage to Russell's boundless creativity and wide-ranging work, which swerved from electronic dance to folk to classical and resulted in what NPR hails as "catchy and hypnotic records that were far ahead of their time."1.
