    Lotta Sea Lice

KURT VILE: We ran into each other on the road
in various continents and talked about the
recordings. I guess it wasn't till I had another
tour booked for the following summer in
Australia that we thought we should record as
much as we can, no major goal to make it a full
length but it came together that way because
the vibe was so strong. I love working with
Courtney, the collaboration was laid back with
    less pressure.

COURTNEY BARNETT: Now we finished the
album, we dreamt up an amazing band which
we've called THE SEA LICE (inspired by a Stella
Mozgawa beach-side-story) and me n Kurt will
be standing there out front with our guitars
singing songs together. Songs from this album
we did, a handful of our own songs from
previous albums, maybe some old folk songs n
what not. Harmonies and guitarmonies galore.
    Very collaborative.

Lotta Sea Lice is the result of 8 days in the
studio spread over almost 15 months when
    Courtney and Kurt's respective touring
schedules allowed for them to be in the same
    place at the same time.

    Celebration Day

On December 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London's O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band's signature blues-infused rock 'n' roll that instantly became part of the legend of Led Zeppelin. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalog including landmark tracks "Whole Lotta Love," "Rock And Roll," "Kashmir," and "Stairway To Heaven."

Chicago Bluesman Willie Dixon was perhaps best known for his songwriting. He wrote or co-wrote over 500 songs and his songs have been recorded by some of the best-known blues musicians of his era, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, and Buddy Guy.

Later, his songs were popularized by groups, such as The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Cream, and Led Zeppelin, whose Whole Lotta Love was loosely based don Dixon´s You Need Love. On this 1970 LP, the quintessential blues songwriter performs his own tunes - every one a classic: I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man, The Little Red Rooster, Spoonful and of course Back Door Man to name a few!

Long overdue, the album was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1986, whereas Willie Dixon was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Howlin' Wolf is the third studio album from Chicago blues singer/guitarist/harmonica player Howlin' Wolf. It is a collection of six singles previously released by the Chess label from 1960 through 1962. Because of the illustration on its sleeve, the album is often called The Rockin' Chair Album, which was eventually adopted on subsequent pressings.

The album has had quite some influence on later musicians. In 1966, fellow Chess artist Koko Taylor recorded a cover version of "Wang Dang Doodle" which reached #4 on the Billboard's R&B Charts and became a minor crossover hit. Earlier in 1963 Sam Cooke released a single of "Little Red Rooster" making #7 on the R&B Singles chart and #11 on the Hot 100. In 1969 the songs "Shake for Me" and "Back Door Man" were used in the lyrics to the Led Zeppelin song "Whole Lotta Love".

    How The West Was Won

Led Zeppelin continues their reissue campaign with a new edition of their celebrated live album How The West Was Won, originally released in 2003, featuring newly remastered audio, which was done under the supervision of Jimmy Page. HOW THE WEST WAS WON highlights the best performances from Led Zeppelin's legendary concerts at the Los Angeles Forum and Long Beach Arena on June 25 and 27, 1972. Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, it captures the band at the height of its formidable powers. Standouts include a 25-plus minute version of "Dazed And Confused" and a 21-minute medley based around "Whole Lotta Love." The performances also capture the band introducing songs from its then-unreleased album Houses Of The Holy, which would be released nine months later.

    Does Led Zeppelin II

Multi-platinum and Grammy winning San Francisco band TRAIN is set to pay homage to one of their biggest musical inspirations with the release of the first cover album of their career, LED ZEPPELIN II. The 9-track album follows the original Led Zeppelin II track listing including classic hit songs such as Ramble On and Whole Lotta Love. The band has famously covered Zeppelin their entire career in live shows. All of the band's proceeds from this album will go to their charity of record, Family House in San Francisco, of which they've been huge supporters for years.

The decision to do a Led Zeppelin cover album took shape when the band recently performed the complete Led Zeppelin II album on this year's annual Sail Across the Sun cruise. Our favorite band is Led Zeppelin, we love the band, they made a huge impression on our lives musically. So I thought, why don't we record an album just for the fun of it for our fans, said lead singer Pat Monahan. The hard part was deciding which one.

Superproducer Daniel Lanois took a rare turn on center stage as a performer on his second solo release, For the Beauty of Wynona. Released in 1993, the album follows his earlier release, Acadie. Unlike that album, which had some superstar appearances, For the Beauty of Wynona is a more low-key affair and has a more subtle impact. Lanois has a limited range as a vocalist, but he possesses a warmth that draws in the listener. Producing himself, Lanois also is an accomplished guitarist, although his protÉgÉ, Malcolm Burn, also adds some guitar as well as keyboards. The music is often moody and watercolored, but there are some more upbeat moments like the jaunty melody of Sleeping in the Devil's Bed, which has a country feel, and the single Lotta Love to Give, which is wispy but anchored by twang guitar and has a catchy chorus and serrated guitar solo. For the Beauty of Wynona is not an immediately striking album but rather one that slowly grows on the listener. It also proves that Lanois has something to say on his own.

    Led Zeppelin II

Remastered from the Original Master Tapes by Jimmy Page and Pressed at Pallas In Germany

Recorded quickly during Led Zeppelin's first American tours, Led Zeppelin II provided the blueprint for all the heavy metal bands that followed it. Since the group could only enter the studio for brief amounts of time, most of the songs that compose II are reworked blues and rock & roll standards that the band was performing on-stage at the time. Not only did the short amount of time result in a lack of original material, it made the sound more direct. Jimmy Page still provided layers of guitar overdubs, but the overall sound of the album is heavy and hard, brutal and direct. Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, and Bring It on Home are all based on classic blues songs -- only, the riffs are simpler and louder and each song has an extended section for instrumental solos. Of the remaining six songs, two sport light acoustic touches (Thank You, Ramble On), but the other four are straight-ahead heavy rock that follows the formula of the revamped blues songs. While Led Zeppelin II doesn't have the eclecticism of the group's debut, it's arguably more influential. After all, nearly every one of the hundreds of Zeppelin imitators used this record, with its lack of dynamics and its pummeling riffs, as a blueprint.

King Curtis: Live At Fillmore West

    Import

Live At Fillmore West is the ultimate King Curtis live album, a brilliant confirmation of the saxophonist's place in popular music. This is the stuff of Soul legends that belongs in any record collection.

The album showcases three concerts he played with his band The Kingpins at the Fillmore West venue in San Francisco in March 1971. Those nights, the group supported Soul singer Aretha Franklin, as were they her backing band. Famed for their outstanding rhythmic interplay, the group of seasoned session men featured a.o. Cornell Dupree on guitar, Billy Preston on electric organ and Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie on drums, supported by the inimitable Memphis Horns.

Curtis rips through some of the biggest hits of the day including Stevie Wonder's Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) and Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, transforming them into showcases for the group's soulful playing. Beautiful renditions of A Whiter Shade Of Pale and I Stand Accused are highlights, and full-throttle rockers like Changes and Memphis Soul Stew comprise the heart of the album.

Tragically only a week after its release, Curtis was stabbed to death outside his brownstone apartment in New York following an argument with two junkies. The day after he died the album peaked at No. 54 on the Billboard 200 album chart, his greatest success as a solo artist.

    Live On Fire (Awaiting Repress)

Colored Triple Vinyl Set of This Amazing Live Show!

Despite having planned his career meticulously over the past 25 years or so, even in the camp of German hard rock master Axel Rudi Pell surprises cannot be ruled out: Before playing in front of a sold-out Cologne crowd on the second leg of his wildly successful Circle Of The Oath tour, the opportunity arose for taping the whole show, with cameras being all over. Well, Axel gave it a try. And that was a good move. Ten years after his last live album Knights Live (2002), you can - again - be a witness of a complete concert from the Bochum-based guitar virtuoso and his German-American all-star band. To round out the Axel Rudi Pell live package, the recording of the co-headlining gig at last year's Rock Of Ages festival was added to Live On Fire, the name of his newest live oeuvre.

Obviously, a live album doesn't have the same importance and significance as a new studio output, but it nevertheless is a perfect snapshot in time, because 2012 was the most successful year in Axel Rudi Pell's solo career by far. Circle Of The Oath, album No. 14, was released on March 23 and rode high on the charts all over Europe: in his homeland Germany, the critically acclaimed disc made it up to No. 16 in the first week, Switzerland welcomed good old Axel on No. 30, Austria on No. 55, Norway on No. 69 and in Sweden he went up to No. 51. And last but not least, he received another gold award for selling out three consecutive nights at the famous Zeche venue in his native Bochum. Apart from that, he rocked the summer crowds at the legendary Sweden Rock and Wacken Open Air festivals, as well as the open-air Rock Of Ages in Germany together with his band.

Even though Axel loves the composing part at home and the recording business in the studio, home is where the heart is and that's being on stage. Being musically socialized in the Golden Age of hard rock (the Seventies) he's probably a bigger fan of live albums than he would admit. As they say: applause is the performer's meat and drink. But without sometimes being anarchistic spontaneously and playing with the audience's emotions, without the sweat coming off the ceiling and the priceless energy being trapped in the middle of an adventure that is called live concert, when the lights go down and every amp is on fire - the life of a true rocker would be incomplete. Speaking of which: besides his success, Axel Rudi Pell has always been that down-to-earth guy and mainly the fan he was turned into when he first heard DEEP PURPLE's Fireball back in the day. With Live On Fire, he accomplishes a long-desired wish and gives his fans what they desperately want for quite some time.

No surprise at all that the main focus is set on the newbies: here's the striking chords of fast and furious opener Ghost In The Black, the hard rocking pounding of Before I Die and without a doubt one of Axel's best songs written in a decade: the brilliant Circle Of The Oath, which would make Jimmy Page cry out loud. But there's more to listen to on Live On Fire: the passion for medleys (The Masquerade Ball/Casbah/Dreaming Dead) combined with some all-time classics here and there (ZEPPELIN's Whole Lotta Love or PURPLE's Mistreated).

Daryl Hall has inferred that if Voices failed to catch fire, it would have likely signaled the end of he and John Oates' recording career together. Suffice it to say that the 1980 effort not only caught on-it established a production and songwriting template that would help largely define the decade. The album also propelled Hall and Oates into the mainstream and turned them into superstars, placing them at the top of the charts for a multi-year run during which the duo proved superior singers, master songwriters, and visionary producers.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180 gram LP at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's reissue at last affords this pop classic an expansive, engaging, dynamic reach absent from all prior editions. Self-produced, the record's sonics were key to its success. As evidenced by the greater information and finer details found in this analog edition's grooves, the polished, sleek, and open sound works hand-in-hand with the arrangements. Hall and Oates' knack for stylish tones, instrumental placement, and edgy accents has never been clearer-literally or figuratively. This LP is nothing short of a game-changer.

By the dawn of the 1980s, Hall and Oates had already released more than a half-dozen albums and attached themselves to a folk-pop model they gradually took in blue-eyed soul directions. Hints of a pop/new wave/R&B amalgamation initially appear on 1979's X-Static, but only fully come into play with confidence, conviction, and commercial flair on Voices. Arriving upon a near-flawless fusion of dance grooves, soft rock rhythms, smooth vocals, romantic sentiments, catchy beats, and spotless hooks, the collaborators simultaneously crossed over into multiple markets and eradicated stylistic boundaries.

Rightly recognized for its four hit singles-the irresistible "Kiss on My List," building "You Make My Dreams," cover of the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," and original rendition of the poignant "Every Time You Go Away," which Paul Young took to the top of the charts years later-Voices towers as both an 80s masterpiece and all-time pop classic.

Independent of the ubiquitous fare, the record holds up courtesy of the deep-album cuts. There isn't a weak note or false move to be found. Hall and Oates paint "United State" with uptempo assertiveness; "Big Kids" passes as first-rate new-wave rock; "Diddy Doo Wop (I Hear the Voices)" pays loving tribute to the duo's doo-wop influences; "Gotta Lotta Nerve (Perfect Perfect)" oozes emotional rawness. Their stage set, Hall and Oates would further advance their craft on Private Eyes and H20, also available from Mobile Fidelity.

    Off The Beaten Path (Deluxe)

Justin Moore s always had a thing about doing it his way. Call it stubborn redneck mettle, a well-developed case of who I am or just the fierce commitment to blaze a trail inherent to people from his home of Poyen, Arkansas. It doesn t mat ter why, just that the blazing sense of off the beaten path drives his album of the same name.

There s a strong vein of tenderness and decency holding Moore s kind of country together. Look no further than Rhett Atkins/Ben Hayslip/Ross Copperman-written Point At You, the lead single, that acknowledges every wild hair Moore has, but hits the bottom line of his goodness via the woman who became his bride.

Get loud, get rowdy, but get home and emerge solid family men dedicated to some basic ideals that have defined this country. One need look no further than The Warren Brothers/Lance Miller/Austin Cunningham-penned opener Old Back In The New School to understand Moore is all about the things that last, the wild times and the enduring values making for a way of life worth living.

It s that kind of edge that draws a singer like Miranda Lambert to duet on the somber heartbreaker Old Habits. A little bit rowdy, a little bit sentimental, a whole lotta roughneck, Moore has dented the country radio charts with three #1s in the anything but big city Small Town USA, the sentimental family embracing If Heaven Weren t So Far Away and the fidelity pledge Til My Last Day, in addition to the Top 10 mission declaration Backwoods.

But the hits don t really tell the whole story. This is the man whose first single a digital only release was I Could Kick Your Ass, who flexed his sense of humor with the new guy mocking Bait A Hook and unapologetically throw down How I Got To Be This Way. And long before booty country became a touchstone, Moore dropped the swaggering Back That Thing Up.

Indeed, Booty Country is full force on OFF THE BEATEN PATH. He has the Kim Kardashian and J-Lo invoking I d Want It To Be Yours co-written with Stover and Brandon Kinney and the slip into the night guitar grinder Off The Beaten Path that slithers through the Patron and the moonlight.Good ole boys doing what they re good at. Moore has built a career eschewing the path most taken, building a fanbase of people just like him.

Take a certain amount of swagger, add some hard-rocking guitars and add Country Radio, a howler that celebrates the ultimate lube for escaping the boredom and expectations. There s the same kind of bulked up, bearing down picture of pride of Lettin the Night Roll, pure freedom and the will to be alive.

Two strong hands, a back that can shoulder anything, this is working man s post-modern American and that respect is what binds him to his woman in That s How I Know You Love Me. Ultimately, she refuses to make him change, and takes what s there for what it is, loving him for all its busted glory.

To believe in values that last, to embrace what is enough and know it s more than plenty, that is the greatest truth for a man like Moore, who sees no reason to leave the place he grew up. Beyond the hits, the gold-certified albums and the momentum of a career hitting its stride, OFF THE BEATEN PATH is a collection of classic postcards that make up the ascending This Kind of Town and the driving chugger One Dirt Road.

You don t have to take it from Moore, though. No less than the great Charlie Daniels, a man who s hung tough for hardcore old school values is featured on For Some Ol Redneck Reason, a pledge of allegiance to living true to principles and never giving into convention. This is one of the truest event moments as Moore dials it back, unfurling the map of his heart and soul.
