Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (Colored Vinyl)

Pressed On Clear Pink & Clear Blue Vinyl

With these soft spoken words on the simply-titled opening track-"Intro"- M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez introduces us to his sixth record and first double disc album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.

Dauntlessly singing into the void that was left behind since Saturdays=Youth, Gonzalez suddenly surges with overwhelming emotion as the music mounts an invisible precipice. Historically, he softly eased you into his world, introducing you to the lush and radiant spaces between captivating melodies and intimate lyrics, but not this time. Not on this record.

Graduating from the fuzzy, fumbling emotional cobwebs and draped ambiance of past records, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming careens past its audience. Brazenly stretching out along the horizon, spilling glittery, golden arms of sound across the landscape, it holds your breath hostage without you even noticing you were missing it. If it seemed that Anthony was basking in the sunshine-drenched days of his youth when he released Saturdays in 2008, then it can be said that in 2011, at the age of 30, he is tempestuously charging towards his future with Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.

Relocating to Los Angeles from Antibes, Gonzalez surrounded himself with players pivotal to completing his childhood dream of a double disc record. Producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and guitarist Brad Laner (from 90s band Medicine) had been hugely influential on Anthony growing up and now were central to the new record's creation.

"In France there is this show on TV where at the end there is a musical guest who plays one or two songs. I remember one night when I was a teenager being at home watching the best of performances and looking at this crazy bass player with a big afro and thinking, 'Wow this guy is so cool.' "And now I am working with him. It's so intense that thinking about it makes me feel weird. But it's weird in a super good way. Same thing with Brad, I was listening to his music when I was first getting into music and now he's on my album."

Anthony and Justin met backstage in 2009 at Scotland's T In The Park. Later, "he came to me very genuinely stating that 'he was a fan and that he would love to work with me,'" explains Gonzalez. "I love when people do that because I can tell it's coming from the heart. He was sincere and that's the way I like to work with people."

Stepping away from his work with producers Ken Thomas and Ewan Pearson on Saturday, Gonzalez freckles his new chapter with signature M83 fingerprints while pushing himself beyond the constricting emotions of a guarded musician. Bored with being frustrated and shy, Anthony is respectful of the precious time given to him and doesn't want to leave behind any regrets, thus thrusting himself into the spotlight vocally. He tests out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream, and each voice clings to us like a dew-heavy spider web at dawn.

Fans will recognize band member Morgan Kibby, her vocals flirting with the shadowy places in between verses, leaping off the record in spoken word or blending with an adult choir. Morgan will join Anthony on tour but she was never meant to sing as much on this record as she had on pervious projects. Quenching his desire to work with a different person on each record, Gonzalez added LA-based chanteuse Zola Jesus to the mix for the completion of "Intro." "The song was already written but I really wanted a female vocal on it and I was kind of struggling to find the right person, but then I heard her music and it just made sense."

Where Saturday=Youth is drenched in lustful exploration and hungry adolescent wonder, Hurry Up is decadently cunning and seductive. "Intro" and "My tears are becoming a sea" eerily croon to you, swirling all of the glitter and growth from the past records into an epic swell, mysteriously and dramatically warning you of the impact you are about to experience. "Midnight City" (disc one) and "OK Pal" (disc two) are humid, adrenaline driven dreams unlike anything we have heard from M83 in the past. "Midnight City" adeptly sweeps you through abandoned concrete streets swimming in broken neon light and aggressively pushing and pulsating to synthetic beats. While "OK Pal" catcalls you to a locker full of mapped out Peter Gabriel-esque echoing lyrics, leaving you stranded in a post-apocalyptic landscape. These journeys are about awakening, craving and conquering. Throughout Hurry Up, We're Dreaming Anthony carries the listener to different countries of sound in his own universe, "We didn't need a story, we didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking and we became the stories- we became the places." Drifting away from his previous records and reigned in politeness he unleashes all that he has been dreaming of and yearning for. Even when he takes a second to look back on "Echoes of Mine" the velvety, elderly voice of a woman heartbreakingly tells the story of a girl drenched in the shadows of her youth, knowing she has to grow up.

Grandiose in scale and inspired by Smashing Pumpkin's revered double disc Melancholy & The Infinite Sadness, Anthony has long had the goal to create his own monumental double disc record. "I saw when I was a teenager that I could dig into it [the album]. It was like a treasure. If I were a teenager nowadays I would try to find something as creative as this album. They had so much to say in their songs."

Impressed with the juxtaposing sun and moon artwork featured on Melancholy, Anthony focuses in on another natural duality: siblings. The cover artwork mirrors this relationship, featuring a photograph of a little boy with a little girl sitting on a bed. The photograph perpetuates the conversation for the two distinct voices we behind each disc, representing two sides of an overall piece that are almost the same. "I want people to listen to it as two different human beings that are connected somehow, but every song on the album has a secret on the other side."

Soaring and scraping up against the sky while sharing each uncharted frontier with new collaborators is what M83 does best. Gracefully coming into the next decade of his life, Anthony delivers what makes each record sincere, innocent, and full of joy: he gives us his past and his future.

"I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It's a compilation of all my previous music together. It's a retrospective of myself."

Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts

"The sound is absolutely huge, its relentless attention to detail eclipsed only by
the stunning emotional power it conveys." - Vice

Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts is the second
studio album by M83 who were, at the time the duo
Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau. Released in
2004 by Mute, this was the album that initially brought
them to wider acclaim in the US, and was followed
by their first US tour. Key tracks include, "Run Into
    Flowers", "America", and "Unrecorded."

M83 has since gone on to release 2011's Grammy-nominated double album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
(which contains platinum single, "Midnight City"). M83
scored the soundtrack for the 2013 film, Oblivion (with
Tom Cruise), the soundtrack to French film, You and
the Night (the directorial debut of his brother, Yann
Gonzalez), and most recently contributed the original
track, "I Need You" to the 2014 film, Divergent. M83

    Junk

"On the last album, there was too much of me." That's how Anthony
Gonzalez - the sonic auteur behind that most sublime purveyor of
symphonic-indie-electronic-dream pop, M83, describes the primary
inspiration behind his forthcoming album Junk, released on April 8 by Mute.
Highly anticipated, Junk is not just M83's first studio artist album in half
a decade; it's also the follow-up to Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - which
upon release in 2011 put M83 in the direct current of the mainstream. So
why would Gonzalez try to remove himself from its follow-up and supplant
himself with the surprising likes of Beck and Steve Vai. Wait, Steve Vai?
The legendary virtuoso guitar hero who defined an era? On a M83 album in
    2016?

In trying to "remove" his identifiable musical presence, ironically Gonzalez
may have made one of his most personal efforts yet in Junk and with no
compromise. With Junk, M83 has succeeded in making what Gonzalez
called "an organized mess - a collection of songs that aren't made to live
with each other, yet somehow work together. From album opener "Do It
Try It", a fractured yet catchy mÉlange of old-school house music pianos
and pop-art bubblegum hooks worthy of ABBA, to "Moon Crystal," an
instrumental whose mutant retro-futurist grooves evoke Genesis doing a
prog-disco remix of the Love Boat theme, to the smooth new wave-meets-electro-funk
workout "Time Wind" (featuring vocals by Beck) to "Go!", an
exultant synth-pop charmer featuring vocals from new M83 collaborator
Mai Lan and guitar solo from legendary shredder, Steve Vai, one thing is
perfectly clear: "Every time I make a M83 album, I'm trying to do it on my
own terms - and it's the same for this one," Gonzalez says. "Whatever I do,
whatever influences I have, it ends up sounding like me. As a musician, I'm
just trying to take you somewhere else, beyond your world."

    Ringer

The Ringer mini album is a 32 minute, four-track excursion into the kind of wide-open spaces you might find if you set out to make techno with an afrobeat/ krautrock sensibility. Ringer locks together gloriously rich synthesizer arpeggios; ôWing Body Wingö slips from crisp clusters of disco percussion to Steve Reich polyrhythms; and in between are another two euphoric ripples of sound, ôRibbonsö and ôSwimmer.ö The techno heartbeat comes from Kieran HebdenÆs regular DJ residences over the last couple of years as well as his ongoing collaborations with legendary jazz drummer Steve Reid. Whether in the studio or live, Kieran and Steve often click into the kind of deep 4/4 grooves that can depart in any direction with a little adjustment. Ringer carries that minimal pulse over into Four Tet, and while KieranÆs trademark recuttings of jazz breaks may be less in evidence, his feel for harmony and melody is, as always, unmistakable.

    You and the Night Soundtrack

"This score is really for lovers and ghosts." -Anthony Gonzalez

M83 is excited to announce their latest collaboration: the soundtrack to Yann Gonzalez's first feature film, You And The Night. Anthony warns that You And The Night is not a typical M83 release. "People who only like "Midnight City" are going to be disappointed. Mellow and romantic, this soundtrack pays tribute to French soundtracks from the 70s and is much more intimate than Hurry Up, We're Dreaming and the Oblivion Soundtrack. This score is really for lovers and ghosts."

Growing up together in Antibes, France, Anthony and his brother Yann were both inspired from an early age by European filmmakers such as Luis Bunuel, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Similar themes underline each of their individual artistic expressions, via both film and music: an appreciation for the majesty of hope and an overall embrace of humanity. Describing his career up until now, Yann explains "if all of my films are put together they form a kind of ensemble, a sort of community. And that is precisely what You And The Night is about: an emotional community, the utopia of a community." For the Gonzalez brothers community and family allowed them to grow into their roles as filmmakers and musicians, so when the time came to chose someone to create a soundtrack for his first feature film it was obvious that Yann would look to work with his brother. "Music is an organic part of the films I make." "M83's compositions bring together the most diverse kinds of music that can only communicate in the end through the logic of emotion and the faith you place in them."

For Anthony You And The Night is a film about love, loss, new love and melancholia. He comments "The movie is very emotional and it's the movie of my brother, so it was a very important project for me. Yet as we share the same values, have the same artistic influences, it was also a very natural and uncomplicated process."

In creating this sultry and luminous soundtrack Anthony reunited with several of his previous collaborators. Joe Trapanese (Oblivion, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming) returned to assist with the orchestral arrangements, whilst long-term M83 collaborator Morgan Kibby (M83, White Sea) and Susanne Sundfør (Oblivion) performed vocals on several tracks on the album. Evolving from their time working together on Oblivion's title track, it seemed a natural step for Sundfør to become involved in the recording sessions for You And The Night. Susanne comments "It was very inspiring to see how Anthony works and how his perfectionism and high ambitions brought out the best in everyone around him. It's something I'm grateful to have been a part of, and I think the soundtrack ended up sounding beautiful and mystical, just like the movie."

Once again You And The Night highlights the musical richness of M83 and adds an impressive chapter to the growing repertoire of work that Gonzalez has produced since his initial, self-titled release. M83, in 2001, right through to the 2011 Grammy Nominated release Nominated Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, which included the platinum selling hit-single "Midnight City".

Though of course, as Anthony warns, don't expect to hear anything like that on this record!

    Blood Pressures

The Kills, Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart, are back with the new studio album, Blood Pressures, the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed third album, Midnight Boom.

For the sessions that became Blood Pressures, Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart returned to Key Club Studios in Michigan where they reunited with Midnight Boom engineers Bill Skibbe and Jessica Ruffins. Produced by Jamie Hince, the album was mixed in London by Tom Elmhirst.

With their basic sound intact; searing guitars, driving rhythms and sexually charged lyrical savvy, the 11 tracks on Blood Pressures find The Kills embracing a fuller sound and becoming more adventurous in the studio, while the lyrics are honest, heartfelt and sometimes just plain heartbreaking. Departing from the sparse, angular sound of Midnight Boom, the duo explore complex textures on Blood Pressures with heavier instrumentation and layered, huge-sounding harmonies. Alison and Jamie play all the instruments on the album, including piano and mellotron.

    Jekyll/Hyde

Jekyll / Hyde is the debut EP from Taryn Blake Miller who records under the name Your Friend.
Written and recorded over a two year period in her adopted hometown of Lawrence, Kansas, Miller used
live performances to develop the songs gradually both as a solo performer as well enlisting the help of a
rotating cast of supporters from the town's music community.

Fusing warm atmospheric guitars with a focused and emotionally rich sense of song craft, Your Friend
presents a keen balance of experimentation and structure. Momentum carries these creations through
dramatic shifts that feel surprising, inevitable and always authentic. Fragmentary and evocative, Miller's
lyrics are a collage of details taken from her life as well as her friends and family. Born in her bedroom and
developed on stage, Miller describes the record as "deeply personal. For a long time it was hard to play
these songs out because they were written for myself."

Miller and co-producer Jordan Geiger (bandleader for Hospital Ships), set out to capture her intimate live
energy but with refinements. Though her bare-bones stage show was in high demand, eventually going
from playing Lawrence house parties and clubs to opening for national acts who passed through locally,
she wanted the songs to be more fleshed out for the record. Bringing in bass, drums and keyboards, as
well as layered guitars and vocals, Miller self-released Jekyll/Hyde in August 2013 to an already devoted
fan base that quickly multiplied. For the Domino release, Miller ahas added even more depth with freshly
recorded live drums and vocals. The result is a captivating debut that sounds fully realized in its ideal

When asked for the significance of the name Your Friend, Miller gets to the fundamental core of her
music: That there is power in leaving yourself exposed, to trusting a part of yourself with people who
don't know you. "I really like the risk in being vulnerable to someone," Miller says. "There's risk in music
that way; I feel that at every show. It could go terribly wrong but that's what I thrive on."

    The Guardian

Little Howlin' Wolf is a street musician, bluesman, actor, storyteller and truth seeker. He is also a true outsider, whose wrenching soulfulness and fire-brained intensity have been captured in a breadcrumb trail of confounding and intentionally obscure self-released records. In the late 1960s Wolf -- born James Pobiega in 1950 -- was already a saxophone wailing fixture at the legendary Chicago hangout, Maxwell Street Market. By the mid-1980s he released nearly three dozen 45s. Those singles are sprawling journeys into Wolf's world vision, as told through his gravelly voice and an array of instruments in styles and influences not limited to: American Indian, Polish and gypsy folk musics, Voodoo, vocal chants, blues, calypso and avant jazz. Often, it's all filtered through overdubbed abstraction. Wolf issued two LPs collecting some of those singles -- The Guardian (1982) and Cool Truth (1985) -- both now reissued by Family Vineyard. The Guardian is a baffling, hyper-creative statement recorded between 1976 and 1982. It's also vastly sincere and some of Wolf's most accessible and deeply emotional songs, yet it orbits a universe known only by the likes of Captain Beefheart or Albert Ayler. This reissue features replicated LP jackets, with Wolf's original transcendent liner notes, and labels bearing the Solidarity Solidarnosc Records name; never before seen photos; and new essay by ethnomusicologist Ian Nagoski.

    No Moon At All

Wildcat! Wildcat!'s debut full-length, No Moon At All, ties the trio's indie-pop anthems into a cohesive widescreen vision. Packed with the Los Angeles-based band's uplifting musicality and angelic harmonies, the ten-track album, which features production from M83's Morgan Kibby, represents both a major artistic leap and the culmination of the group's rise since "Mr. Quiche" and their initial run of buzzy singles.

Featuring longtime friends Jesse Taylor (vocals, bass), Michael Wilson (vocals, keys) and Jesse Carmichael (vocals, drums), Wildcat! Wildcat! officially formed in 2012. Their early tracks, available as blog downloads and a single from the tastemaker label Neon Gold, led to the band's 2013 self-titled debut EP on Downtown Records, which received critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, Time, Stereogum, Nylon, Paste, Huffington Post and more.

In early 2013, Wildcat! Wildcat! was the subject of the Sam Jones-directed documentary Hello Everywhere - a feature that depicted the band's journey from LA to SXSW for a massive concert with Passion Pit. The group has also toured with Alt-J, Portugal. The Man and MS MR.

On No Moon At All, Wildcat! Wildcat! achieves full headliner status. Its sweeping arc and range create an emotionally-rousing world for the band's infectious underdog anthems. "Tower" sets the tone with a dreamy build and explosive low-end, while lead single "Hero" mixes the group's innovative harmonies with dance production and an earworm chorus. "Holloway (Hey, Love)," with its skyrocketing emotions, is sure to play over many-a-movie's end credits, and "End Of The World Everyday" is a slinky, bold ballad.

    Impressions

Following the release of their acclaimed 2012 debut, Everything Touching, Tall Ships were championed by both the BBC and NME, selling out shows across the UK and headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading & Leeds Festival. Their debut earned a wealth of critical praise, with Pitchfork citing its penchant for the more swashbuckling strains of Okkervil River and Modest Mouse, M83's downcast glimmer, and Sigur Ros' misty yawn, and BBC Music claiming, the trio's debut displays dizzying craftsmanship.

After a patch of personal turmoil and a falling out with their record label, the band found themselves at a crossroads. Where lesser bands might have crumbled under the weight of expectation and adversity, Tall Ships regrouped and retreated to keyboardist Jamie Field's country home to re-adopt a similarly DIY recording process to that which birthed Everything Touching years earlier. As such, Impressions bristles with a fresh intensity: it's a set that feels constantly on a knife edge of unpredictability, capable within a single song of being both disconcertingly tender and universal - easily the most ambitious and anthemic music the band has ever written, marking them out as one of the UK's most promising rock bands but one worn with the battle scars of doubt, fragility and lessons learned the hard way.

    Pillar Point

...splices M83 and Washed Out with glorious results - The Line of Best Fit

On Seattle-based PILLAR POINT's self-titled debut album, the moody, melancholy electronica is the work of THROW ME THE STATUE founder Scott Reitherman. Far more intimate than anything he's done previously, Reitherman's personal struggles add lyrical depth to dance floor-ready beats and while the album shows off a never-before-seen gloom, his knack for writing tracks that crystalize emotion and work their way into a listener's guts isn't at all obscured. Writing darker songs with dance elements helped me to process the confusion and change I was experiencing in my own life because within the confines of a pop song I could control little moments of clarity and redemption, he says. And for the listener it adds depth to what might otherwise be just dance music. Born out of a two year recording process between Reitherman and producer Charlie Smith that stretched from Los Angeles to the Bay Area and ultimately Seattle, where Reitherman has once again settled, PILLAR POINT marks not only a fresh musical approach, but also a new mindset for writing songs. The songs on Pillar Point are certainly those things, but they're also exciting, intricate and impossible to stop listening to. There's a heartbroken quality to them, sure, but one that seems like it might be cured if only we all close our eyes and move our feet until all is forgotten.

    In Rolling Waves

Beyond a life hardwired to pop culture via the 24 hour news feed, The Naked and Famous elicit a romantic connection inspired by the golden era of
alternative rock; a shared response to a teenage soundtrack of epic, emotionally charged mid-nineties music.

Released in March 2011, their ambitious debut Passive Me, Aggressive You featured singles Young Blood and Punching In A Dream. Lauded by
NME, it was a 'classic case of lovely and beautiful: TNAF's passive melodicism and aggressive innovation clash in a dazzling blaze of psych/sonic
fireworks and Rolling Stone magazine described Young Blood as one of the year's best singles. Fronted by Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers, The
Naked And Famous lit a fire under an online fan base, with a video subculture built through YouTube and into radio. M83 invited TNAF to remix a single
and a Tiesto remix transformed Young Blood into a club smash. Agencies fell into The Naked and Famous slipstream, and theirs became the go-to
soundtrack for gaming, Hollywood and TV shows mining a zeitgeist of young and interesting.

By June 2012, the New Zealand quintet had played to more than 600,000 people in 24 countries, but the band chose to hit pause and embark on a
second album. The resulting album, In Rolling Waves, delivers darkly nuanced, intricately rocking electro gems once again born in bedroom studio
sessions, then demoed in studios in Wales and Australia ahead of recording at Sunset Sound in Hollywood.

Thom Powers sought out Alan Moulder (NIN, Foals, My Bloody Valentine) to mix this daydreaming dark-wave experiment. In 2013, The Naked And
Famous are matured and determined to deliver new music to their fans as soon as possible.

Skyline finds Tiersen taking a confident step forward, cementing the sound of its darker predecessor, the critically acclaimed Dust Lane. Recording with his usual large ensemble, Tiersen continues his explorations of rock and progressive sonics with a cinematic palette, but this time with a more rock feel that recalls bands from Pink Floyd to Explosions in the Sky and M83.
