    If Anything

If Anything, the rst full-length by Greys, is the young quartet's
own warped update of vintage post-punk; frenetic guitars
running against walls of noise, held together by sharp strands of
melody. Emerging from the vibrant Toronto punk scene, Greys
are economical in their swift punches of noise, anchoring short
bursts of mania with huge choruses. Each song exists in its own
space and represents different aspects of the things we like
about noisy, dissonant music," says singer/guitarist Shehzaad
Jiwani. "But instead of being built solely around riffs, they were
built with hooks in mind, too.

The 35-minute LP pulses with a manic urgency, as drummer
Braeden Craig and bassist Colin Gillespie's syncopated rhythms
punctuate guitarist Cam Graham's smothering dissonance.
Through exasperated shouts, Jiwani lets loose the fury that splits
open his songwriting. The lyrics went from outward frustration to
inward, he says. A lot of it takes place from within my own
head. Swinging between hard-driving punk and '90s indie
rifng, the respites on If Anything only underscore Greys' brute
    force and anthemic inclinations.

Written over the summer of 2013 and recorded in ten days at
Toronto's Candle Recording studio, If Anything is a fullling
aftershock of noise rock, immediately arresting and bursting with
    condence.

    The Distance Is So Big

Without a distinguishable understanding of the pop and intensity, a silent video of a Lemuria show would appear to be that of a blistering hardcore trio. To the viewers surprise, turning the audio on they'd find the stage diving mania and screamers are really chanting Maybe I should wear lipstick too or You fit in my skin, softest I've let in as guitarist/vocalist Sheena Ozzella's dynamic, melodic voice guides the unlikely chorus.

Lemuria might not sound like they are from Buffalo, NY, but the band was proudly birthed there, following the legacy of an oddly eclectic, if not eccentric, music scene. When you loosen your ears to the sugary indie-pop, you'll discover discordant notes, odd time signatures, and brutal riffs creating menacing yet catchy music.

Releasing their early 7 EPs and splits on drummer/vocalist Alex Kerns' label Art of the Underground, they landed their debut full length Get Better on west coast pop-punk label Asian Man Records. Following their debut, and worked into an ambitious DIY touring schedule, they sprinkled 7 releases around on labels such as Hex, No Idea Records, and Suburban Home. Eventually, they would settle in with the Boston-based Bridge Nine Records with their 2011 sophomore album, Pebble. Pebble received great critical acclaim and was featured with SPIN, RollingStone.com, and countless other magazines and websites.

Now, Lemuria are gearing up to release their newest effort The Distance Is So Big on Bridge Nine Records on June 18th. Their most mature and best effort to date, this album was recorded at the Magpie Cage with J Robbins (Against Me!, Jawbreaker, The Promise Ring) earlier this year.

    Tough Love

Jessie Ware first entered our consciousness as a breath of fresh air amidst the then current climate of female pop back in 2012 with the release of her
delicately soulful debut album 'Devotion'. Recorded with little fanfare in low-key sessions with Dave Okumu of The Invisible, it became one of the most
critically acclaimed albums of the year, lauded by everyone from Pitchfork to Heat Magazine and nominated for the Mercury Prize. As a solo artist she
was also nominated for two Brits in 2013- Breakthrough and British Female. Plaudits were followed by an ever-expanding fanbase, meaning Ware was
constantly on tour as she gained millions of new devotees from across the world. The mania of Jessie's schedule that ensued post release of 'Devotion'
poetically led to the creation of her already brilliantly received lead single from the new album 'Tough Love'.

The record's executive producers are BenZell (a new production duo made up of PMR labelmate Two Inch Punch and Katy Perry and Ke$ha super-producer Benny Blanco). You can hear the leaps in production and songwriting that come with experience and an expanded team. While the record still
draws on the suave, svelte palette of synths and bass heard on 'Devotion', they're combined with more confident choruses and lush arrangements.
Jessie's stunning vocal is brought to the fore - it often feels she's whispering right in your ear.

'Devotion' collaborators Dave Okumu and James Ford worked with Jessie again, but there are also a few household names on the record this time
around. Miguel, who had previously worked with Jessie on her remix of his track "Adorn", wrote with her on a string of sessions in the US. A long cry from
her makeshift studio in Okumu's Lewisham front room, he would bring R&B royalty in to hear their work - J.Cole could be seen poking his head round the
    door.

    Fantasy Empire (Awaiting Repress)

Over the course of its two-decade existence, Lightning Bolt has revolutionized underground rock in immeasurable ways. The duo broke the barrier between stage and audience by setting themselves up on the floor in the midst of the crowd. Their momentous live performances and the mania they inspired paved the way for similar tactics used by Dan Deacon and literally hundreds of others. Similarly, the band's recordings have always been chaotic, roaring, blown out documents that sound like they could destroy even the toughest set of speakers. Fantasy Empire, Lightning Bolt's sixth album and first in five years, is a fresh take from a band intent on pushing themselves musically and sonically while maintaining the aesthetic that has defined not only them, but an entire generation of noisemakers. It marks many firsts, most notably their first recordings made using hi-fi recording equipment at the famed Machines With Magnets, and their first album for Thrill Jockey. More than any previous album, Fantasy Empire sounds like drummer Brian Chippendale and bassist Brian Gibson are playing just a few feet away, using the clarity afforded by the studio to amplify the intensity they project. Every frantic drum hit, every fuzzed-out riff, sounds more present and tangible than ever before. Fantasy Empire is ferocious, consuming, and is a more accurate translation of their live experience. It also shows Lightning Bolt embracing new ways to make their music even stranger. More than any previous record, Chippendale and Gibson make use of live loops and complete separation of the instruments during recording to maximize the sonic pandemonium and power. Gibson worked with Machines very carefully to get a clear yet still distorted and intense bass sound, allowing listeners to truly absorb the detail and dynamic range he displays, from the heaviest thud to the subtle melodic embellishments. Some of these songs have been in the band's live repertoire since as early as 2010, and have been refined in front of audiences for maximum impact. This is heavy, turbulent music, but it is executed with the precision of musicians that have spent years learning how to create impactful noise through the use of dynamics, melody, and rhythm.

    Jericho Sirens

After a 14-year hiatus from the studio, Hot Snakes have
triumphantly kicked down the door back into our lives with their
new album, Jericho Sirens. And amid the mania of non-stop
    political rhetoric, doom-and-gloom prognostications and
omnipresent technology, it's not a moment too soon.

Hot Snakes formed in 2000, after the release of their first
record, Automatic Midnight. They were John Reis, Jason
Kourkounis, Rick Froberg and Gar Wood. The band's sound
represented a return to the unrealized past of its members. This
time, their musics would be direct, undraped and rock 'n' roll
while still maintaining the dense and turbulent character of the
members' previous work. That year, Hot Snakes found their live
sound and established themselves as primo, down-stroke
warlords. They followed with a pair of great albums - 2002's
Suicide Invoice, with drummer Jason Kourkounis, and 2004's
Audit in Progress, with Mario Rubalcaba on drums - that
broadened the band's sound while pleasing many a fan.
However, the band eventually spiraled downward into a mid-life
punk crisis, and by 2005 they had stopped performing.

BUT! 2011 saw the return of Hot Snakes, with a string of festival
shows. Both drummers performed with the band on the songs
which they recorded, and the group discussed writing new
material. After an additional 6 years of discussions, Hot Snakes
returned to the studio in 2017 to commence recording, and the
results are, finally, revealed in Jericho Sirens.

Musically, Jericho Sirens incorporates the most extreme fringes
of the Hot Snakes sound (the vein-bulging, 78-second "Why
Don't It Sink In?" the pounding downstrokes of "Having
Another?"), while staying true to longstanding influences such as
the Wipers, Dead Moon and Suicide on propulsive tracks such as
"Six Wave Hold-Down," one of the first written for the project
during a New Year's Eve 2017 session in Philadelphia. Other
moments like the choruses of "Jericho Sirens" and "Psychoactive"
nod to classic-rock titans such as AC/DC and Ozzy
Osbourne, with Froberg admitting, "I'm as much a hesher as I
am anything else, that's for sure." For Reis, reactivating his
creative partnership with Froberg was one of the most rewarding
aspects of the process: "Our perspectives are similar. Our tastes
are similar. We work really well together. And what more is there
to say? Rick totally outdid himself on this record, vocally and
    lyrically."

Jericho Sirens was recorded in short bursts over the past year in
Philadelphia and San Diego, with assistance from longtime
bassist Gar Wood. Kourkounis and Rubalcaba, both of whom
drummed on prior Hot Snakes releases but never on the same
    one, contributed throughout.

The remastered LP features updated artwork and includes an 11 × 17 replica of an early Chunk show flyer, with photos and notes from the band on the reverse.

Mac shared his memories of these early days of Superchunk: When I listen to our first album now, other than cringing at some clams and the vocals and the juvenile attitude of the whole thing what was I angry about? You'll have to ask 21-year-old me because in my memory, we were having fun. I hear the accumulation of our influences, which I suppose is normal for a first album-weaving all the things you loved up to that point into your own first thing. The Buzzcocks, HÜsker DÜ, Dinosaur Jr, and Sonic Youth are all right there and what we were listening to. Hearing this record recently, though, I was surprised at how southern some of it sounds, and I think the influence of bands like Drivin' n' Cryin' and of course R.E.M. is there under the fuzz. I remember thinking the solo 4-track demo of Slack Motherfucker sounded like Tom Petty. I can't find it now to prove it to you, but take my word for it. I was living in NYC finishing school when we made this record, so rehearsals and recording were all rushed. I'm surprised we knew this many songs well enough to record them. Twenty-seven years later, we still play at least three or four of these songs live occasionally (one of them all the time ), which says something good about a few of the songs, anyway! We got so much better as a band, and as songwriters, that it's hard to even see this as any kind of template for what Superchunk would eventually be, but it's definitely where we were at in 1989/90.

    57th & 9th

A&M/Interscope Records announces the release of Sting's new album, 57th & 9th, his first rock/pop project in over a decade.

57th & 9th represents a wide range of Sting's musical and songwriting styles, from the ferocious, Road Warrior-style imagery of "Petrol Head," to the anthemic, "50,000" and the raucous, guitar-driven first single, "I Can't Stop Thinking About You." The album was recorded with Sting's long-time collaborators Dominic Miller (guitar) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) and includes contributions from drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Guns n' Roses), guitarist Lyle Workman and the San Antonio-based Tex-Mex band The Last Bandoleros. Riding a wave of inspiration, 57th & 9th came together impulsively, with sessions completed in just a few weeks.

"It happened very quickly, very spontaneously," he says. "My idea always is to surprise myself and the people I'm working with-and, hopefully, the listeners."

The album, produced by Martin Kierszenbaum, takes its title from the Manhattan street corner that Sting crossed each day as he walked to the studios in Hell's Kitchen where the recordings were done. Sting notes that if there's a theme in the lyrics of 57th & 9th, it's the idea of travel and motion, most apparent in the autobiographical "Heading South On The Great North Road" and in "Inshallah," a first-person account of the global refugee crisis, written from a humanitarian point of view.

"It's about searching and traveling, the road, that pull of the unknown." he says. "On this album, we ended up with something that's energetic and noisy, but also thoughtful."

There Is Nothing Left To Lose

Co-produced with Adam Kasper, the Foo Fighters third album There Is Nothing Left To Lose (1999) is as driven and blatant as the title suggests: powerful, compelling, deliberate, precise and engaging, all at once. Rather than rehash their previously successful songs (Big Me, This Is A Call, Monkey Wrench, Everlong, My Hero), on There Is Nothing Left To Lose, the Foo Fighters delivered a distinct mix of straight ahead rockers (Stacked Actors, Breakout, Generator), mid-tempo, thought-provoking, pop classics (Learn To Fly, Live-In Skin) and stunningly beautiful ballads (Aurora, Ain't It The Life, M.I.A. and Next Year) which combine for a dynamic, forceful mix from what has become one of rock 'n' roll's biggest bands.

Celebrate The New Year With Their Classic # 1 Mega Platinum Debut Album

    First Time Audiophile Vinyl Release

Mastered Impeccably From The Authorized & Original1978 Atlantic Records Tapes By Joe "i Got The Blues" Reagoso

After their phenomenal success on Saturday Night Live and a number of smash comedy movies already in
their resume, John Belushi and Dan Akroyd dove headfirst into their love of soul, blues and r & b and began
the Blues Brothers duo, netting them a number one album, top hit singles, a box office smash and acclaim
from purists and blues lovers from all over with their first LP, Briefcase Full Of Blues.

Recorded in 1978 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, the late great John Belushi and Dan
Akroyd opened a set before comedian and good friend Steve Martin. To the crowd's amazement, the duo
blasted them a blistering rock 'n' blues performance which was captured on tape for their first album Briefcase
Full Of Blues. They later appeared on SNL and the rest as they say is history, as this stunt became reality in no
time and thus began a short lived but amazing piece of rock and blues history.

Released during the holiday season, the album became a number one smash and netted two smash singles
with the classic nod to the Stax sound with Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" as well as the '50s doo wop
    classic, "Rubber Biscuit."

With a stellar musician lineup of classic R & B and traditional blues purists like Steve Cropper and Duck
Dunn from Booker T. & The M.G.'s, Chess Records sideman to the stars Matt "Guitar " Murphy,
saxophone champion Tom Scott and a handful of New York City's finest on the reeds, rounded out with Paul
Shafer on keys, The Blues Brothers were a force to reckon with as their albums would go on to sell in the
millions making them one of the biggest bands in the late seventies into the eighties.

With a stunning set list of righteous blues and soulful interpretations, this masterpiece is filled with nonstop classics like the hard boppin' opener Hey Bartender, blues belters like Junior Wells' "Messin' With The
Kid" and Big Joe Turner's "Flip Flop Fly," plus southern rockers like Delbert McClinton's "'B" Movie Box Car
    Blues."

In addition to these legendary performances, this unique concert recording yielded more with powerhouses
like the smash I Don't Know, King Floyd's Groove Me, and the blues thriller Shot Gun Blues.

Friday Music is no stranger to the blues. Therefore, it is with much honor to announce the first installment
in our Blues Brothers 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with their brilliant masterwork Briefcase Full Of Blues.

    Generation Void

3rd full length album by Iron Man.

Maryland-spawned doom titans Iron Man seemed to drop off the face of the earth after their first two albums, 1993's Black Night and 1994's The Passage, shook the heavy metal world by the scruff of its neck and forced it to bang any head that didn't already bang, as Metallica would have put it. With little rhyme or reason, all of five years would elapse until the group's return to activity via 1999's Generation Void LP, squandering any upward momentum Iron Man might have attained, but belatedly proving that they remained a force to be reckoned with when they actually showed up. So let's take it from the top: most fans and critics would agree that Iron Man's strengths always lay in energized doom templates, and the latest songs cut from that cloth on this album, such as On the Mountain, Boston Strangler, and As the Gods Have Spoken, definitely didn't disappoint this time around, either. At the same time, less orthodox new offerings like Forever Yours and Shadows of Darkness continued to broaden Iron Man's creative resources with leaner heavy metal styles (the N.W.O.B.H.M., for example) and rock-based qualities, revealing that the intervening years of inactivity didn't elapse without some sonic transformation. In fact, stately metal ballads like Winds of Change and the album's title track recalled classic mid-'70s efforts by Judas Priest like Beyond the Realms of Death (with the added benefit of Morris' transcendent soloing), and, alongside tougher numbers like Survivor and King of Kings, which could very well have passed for Stained Class outtakes, they qualified Generation Void as the first Iron Man album where the band's deep-seated Black Sabbath influences were dethroned by another band's. But, given the typically strong material that resulted, there was little cause for complaint, especially from Iron Man's long deprived fan base, which would amazingly have to put up with another Rip Van Winkle-like ten years before getting their gauntlets on the band's fourth studio album, 2010's I Have Returned.

Original 1998 album remastered and pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl. I met them in full flower, in the depths of their mania, pursuing contemplative music with the kind of intensity normally found in psychopaths. No detail was too small to sweat, no crack in the veneer not worth gluing and clamping. We built a common language, equal parts philosophy, rock music, and disdain for the dullness around us. - Steve Albini, on recording Transaction De Novo

Eazy Duz It (25th Anniversary Edition)

    Remastered 25th Anniversary Edition

Released only a month after Straight Outta Compton (1988), Eazy-Duz-It was the first N.W.A spin-off album. Years before Ice Cube went solo with Amerikkka's Most Wanted (1990), before Dr. Dre changed the rap game with The Chronic (1992), before MC Ren struggled to establish himself with Shock of the Hour (1993), and before Yella simply fell into obscurity, Eazy-E rose to immediate superstar status with this solo debut. It's no wonder why, for the album plays like a humorous, self-centered twist on Straight Outta Compton with Eazy-E, the most charismatic member of N.W.A, front and center while his associates are busy behind the scenes, producing the beats and writing the songs.

In terms of production, Dr. Dre and Yella meld together P-Funk, Def Jam-style hip-hop, and the leftover electro sounds of mid-'80s Los Angeles, creating a dense, funky, and thoroughly unique style of their own. In terms of songwriting, the D.O.C., Ice Cube, and MC Ren are each credited; plus, Ren performs raps of his own on five of the 12 songs.

The collaborative nature of the music -- with Dre and Yella producing; the D.O.C., Ice Cube, and MC Ren writing the songs; MC Ren featured as a guest on half of them; and Eazy-E performing -- fortunately makes Eazy-Duz-It more of an N.W.A effort than a true solo album. This is fortunate because as charismatic as he may be, Eazy-E isn't an especially gifted MC. He's at his best here when he's cracking wise and also when he's overshadowed by Dr. Dre's productions, particularly on the four-song sequence of Eazy Duz It, We Want Eazy, Eazy-er Said Than Dunn, and Radio -- all heavily produced songs with layers upon layers of samples and beats competing with Eazy-E's rhymes for attention.

Straight Outta Compton is no doubt the more revolutionary album, yet Eazy-Duz-It is a great companion, showcasing N.W.A's sense of humor and, despite the often violent subject matter, casting them in a lighter, more humorous mood. When Eazy-E would return with a second solo release, 5150 Home 4 tha Sick, his N.W.A associates would be M.I.A. and the difference would be stark.

    Longhena

I remember when we were in love/but time has taken that from us.

The end game, the final unit. The last Gridlink record. Recorded over five days in Kyoto, Japan, 'Longhena,' is a twenty-three minute grindcore opus made real through the emotional ferocity and painstaking calculation of Jon Chang (Discordance Axis), Bryan Fajardo (Phobia, PLF), Takafumi Matsubara (Discordance Axis, Hayaino Daisuki) and Teddy Patterson (Burnt by the Sun, Human Remains, Hayaino Daisuki).

Awe-inspiring musicianship, landscapes of shred, atonal and melodic at once, blast-beat hyper-mania and vocals screamed from the bottom of a personal and illustrated hell. This is the one you've been waiting for. The one that makes the body ache.

'Longhena,' is for anyone sick with melancholy, and those who wish to obliterate the world with music.

I have the pictures of who we once were, that life is over. Grind 2.0.

    Gathering

Gathering is the 9th studio album from critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Josh Ritter. It is the follow-up to 2015's Sermon On The Rocks, which debuted on Billboard #1 Folk Albums, #5 Vinyl Albums, #6 Rock Albums, #8 Independent Albums, and more.

    Regarding the record, Josh says:

This record is the product of a strange and interesting time. When I started writing Gathering, I felt tired of living in the shadow of my earlier self, my earlier work, but more than discouraged, I felt charged with the possibility and the freedom of cutting myself loose from my own and others expectations. I began with an exciting sense of dissatisfaction, and what emerged, as I began to find my voice, was a record full of storms. Some, like Feels Like Lightning or Friendamine, are physical storms. Others, like Dreams, are interior ones. Listening to these songs now, I hear uncertainty, mania, laughter and sadness, all vying for their place on the album. I was surprised by the new voice.

I have been writing records for almost twenty years now. Each one has been different from the last in subject and form, but with Gathering I feel I've found a new electric dissatisfaction, a new way to rejoice as the storm rolls in.

    Quatro: The Definitive Collection

Over the course of his impressive artistic career, Tito Puente was a perennial and prolific innovator of Latin tropical music and Latin jazz of the highest caliber. Now thanks to Sony Music Latin, we all get to enjoy the four signature and landmark albums (artwork - front & back- as it originally appeared), along with a fifth bonus album, that truly defined the "American Icon" and his golden era:

"Cuban Carnival" (1956) is included with the original artwork. "Dance Mania" (1958) is the best-selling album of Tito's career. "Night Beat" (1957) became one of Latin jazz's seminal albums, while "Revolving Bandstand" (1960), considered the most innovative jazz recording of its time with the simultaneous inclusion of two big bands in the studio, is re-issued for the first time, with original artwork and liner notes.

This impressive and ever so unique package of 5 albums is being collectively released as Quatro - The Definitive Collection. A compendium that's like no other in the discography of Tito Puente, as it focuses on his early years, the RCA era of 1955-1960, so beloved by fans, critics and music historians.

Quatro - The Definitive Collection includes informative liner notes written by Joe Conzo (curator & music historian and author of the book "Mambo Diablo My Journey with Tito Puente"), a close friend of Tito Puente. It also contains never-before published facts and photos, plus previously unreleased artwork and alternate takes.

    Good Times!

Who's ready to have some fun with The Monkees as they celebrate their 50th anniversary? With a tour kicking off in May and the group's first new album in 20 years, GOOD TIMES!, releasing, Monkee-mania will be taking 2016 by storm!

GOOD TIMES! features all three surviving band members - Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. The unmistakable voice of the late Davy Jones is also included with a vintage vocal featured on one song. To produce the new album, the band found the perfect musical co-conspirator in Grammy® and Emmy®-winning songwriter Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne, Ivy).

Much like The Monkees' early albums, GOOD TIMES! features tracks written specifically for the band by some of the music world's most gifted songwriters, including Rivers Cuomo (Weezer), Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), Andy Partridge (XTC), and Zach Rogue (Rogue Wave) as well as a song co-written by Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller. The album also includes songwriting contributions by Nesmith ("I Know What I Know") and Tork as well as producer Schlesinger.

To help bring the anniversary full circle, The Monkees completed songs for GOOD TIMES! that were originally recorded and written for the group during the 60s, including "Love To Love" by Neil Diamond, which features a vintage vocal by Jones. Harry Nilsson wrote the title track "Good Times," which he recorded at a session with Nesmith in January 1968. The production was never completed, so the band returned to the original session tape (featuring Nilsson's guide vocal) and have created a duet with his close friend Dolenz. "Good Times" will mark the first time Dolenz and Nilsson have sung together since Dolenz' May 1973 single "Daybreak." Other vintage 1960's tracks included on GOOD TIMES! feature L.A.'s famed "Wrecking Crew" of session musicians.

"This is one of the most exciting Monkee projects I've been involved in for decades!" says Dolenz. "Working with Adam Schlesinger has been a pure delight and the opportunity to sing a duet with my old buddy, Harry Nilsson, is just beyond cool!"
