Mastered from the Original Tapes at Abbey Road by Guy Massey and Co.: Same Team Responsible for Superb Beatles Reissues

Macca's 1980 Adventurous, Synth-Dominant Studio Set His First Post-Wings Solo Effort

McCartney Personally Supervised the Reissue: McCartney Also Available on 180g 2LP

Originally released in 1980 and the first album he released after disbanding Wings, McCartney II echoed back to Paul McCartney's titanic 1970 solo debut in that the former Beatle took a singular, do-it-yourself approach to its composition and creation. Eager to expand from the pop he'd been plying with Wings, the legendary singer-songwriter obsesses over synthesizer potential throughout the record's 11 tracks, all of which opt for a more electronic feel and experimental ambience.

Reaching #1 in the UK, and #3 in the U.S., McCartney II yielded myriad enduring classics such as Coming Up, Waterfalls, and Temporary Secretary. And as he did in 1970, McCartney calls on then-wife Linda McCartney to supply background vocals but handles everything else on his own. Clearly playing with something to prove, the boundless musician employs cutting-edge synthesizers to craft memorable arrangements and soundscapes, while his inimitable vocals provide unforgettable timbres and complimentary tones.

Part of the icon's ongoing Archive Collection, McCartney II has been remastered at Abbey Road from the original master tapes by the same engineering team responsible for the internationally acclaimed Beatles reissues. We assure you that this 1980 landmark has never sounded better, and the gatefold packaging looks stunning. In addition, McCartney has unlocked the vault and supplied rare and previously unreleased tracks to add to the album's overall enjoyment and context. Not surprisingly, Macca himself oversaw the entire reissue.

Pop fans and music connoisseurs, this is what is deemed essential. Grab McCartney II and its natural bookend McCartney on audiophile vinyl and immerse yourself in the sounds of the artist who's the most successful musician and composer in history.

Macca's 1970 Solo Debut Stands As One of Most Acclaimed Debuts in Music History

McCartney Personally Supervised the Reissue: McCartney II Also Available on 180g 2LP

Originally released in 1970 and instantly heralded as one of the most beloved solo debuts of all time, McCartney announced to the world that Paul McCartney was more than ready for a career outside of the Beatles. Hitting #1 on the charts, the record yielded the timeless tracks Every Night and That Would Be Something along with the immortal classic Maybe I'm Amazed.

Recorded at the multi-instrumentalist's home studio, McCartney performed nearly every note himself and also handled production duties. While Macca handles the standard bass, drums, guitar, piano and organ, he also works xylophone, Mellotron, and organ into the mix. The material here is a blend of white soul, hummable pop, and lightly rocking numbers that succeed via their modest charm and ageless melodies. He also calls on then-wife Linda McCartney to supply background vocals.

Part of the icon's ongoing Archive Collection, McCartney has been remastered at Abbey Road from the original master tapes by the same engineering team responsible for the internationally acclaimed Beatles reissues. We assure you that this 1970 masterwork has never sounded better, and the gatefold packaging looks stunning. In addition, McCartney has unlocked the vault and supplied seven rare and previously unreleased tracks to add to the album's overall enjoyment and context. Not surprisingly, Macca himself oversaw the entire reissue.

Debut album from Paul McCartney. Apart from wife Linda's vocal contributions, McCartney performed the entire album by himself, playing every instrument. McCartney II

McCartney II is the second completely solo studio album by Paul McCartney, and the first since the formation of Wings in 1971. It was released in 1980, a year before the band's dissolution and while their future lay in limbo. The album is a significant departure for McCartney, as much of it relies heavily on synthesizers and studio experimentation. Now reissued on 180g vinyl.

    RAM

Ladies and gentlemen, this is an album from a long, long time ago, when the world was different. This is an album that is part of my history, it goes back to the wee hills of Scotland where it was formed. It's an album called RAM. It reminds me of my hippie days and the free attitude with which it was created. I hope you're going to like it, because I do! - Paul McCartney (2012)

Following the successful recent reissues of McCartney, McCartney II, and 2012's Grammy winner for 'Best Historical Album, Band on the Run, RAM is the latest album from Paul's iconic back catalog to get the deluxe Paul McCartney Archive Collection treatment. As with the previous releases in the series, Paul has personally overseen every aspect of the project and the result is spectacular!

RAM, originally released in May of 1971, is the only album to be credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney and was Paul's second post-Beatles LP. It was overshadowed at the time by the drama of the dissolution of The Beatles, as played out in the world's media. The album topped the charts hitting #1 in the UK and #2 in the US. While RAM polarized critics upon its release, music fans and critics alike since have overwhelmingly embraced it, with Rolling Stone, for example, revising their original review up to 4 stars. Recently RAM has enjoyed even further re-appraisal and acknowledgement including a number of tribute albums.

RAM was written by Paul and Linda, mostly at their Scottish farm on the Mull of Kintyre. In the autumn of 1970 they flew to New York to start the recording process. Without a band in place they auditioned and drafted musicians, who included future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken. RAM gave Paul his first solo US #1 single with Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey and a Grammy win for 'Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists.'

The band completed the album in early 1971 along with non-album tracks Another Day and Oh Woman, Oh Why which were released together as Paul's first post-Beatles single ahead of the release of RAM and became a Top 5 global hit. This remastered 180g 2LP, gatefold vinyl reissue includes both songs as bonus tracks along with additional material that didn't appear on the original release.

    Tug Of War

Reuniting with producer George Martin was a bit of a masterstroke on the part of Paul McCartney, since it guaranteed that Tug of War would receive a large, attentive audience. Martin does help McCartney focus, but it's hard to give all the credit to Tug of War, since McCartney was showing signs of creative rebirth on McCartney II, a homemade collection of synth-based tunes. This lush, ambitious, sprawling album couldn't be further from that record. That was deliberately experimental and intimate, while this is nothing less than a grand gesture, playing as McCartney's attempt to summarize everything he can do on one record. There's majestic balladry, folky guitars, unabashed whimsy, unashamed sentimentality, clever jokes, silliness, hints of reggae, a rockabilly duet with Carl Perkins, two collaborations with Stevie Wonder, and, of course, lots of great tunes. If anything, McCartney's trying a bit too hard here, and there are times that the music sags with its own ambition (or slightly dated production, as on the smash single Ebony and Ivory). But, at its best -- the surging title track, the giddy Take It Away, the vaudevillian stomp Ballroom Dancing, the Lennon tribute Here Today, the wonderful Wanderlust -- it's as good as McCartney gets.

    Egypt Station (Deluxe Edition) (Pre-Order)

    180g Double Vinyl, unique tri-gatefold packaging with 16 tracks (14 songs + 2 instrumentals).

Paul McCartney invites you on a musical journey to Egypt Station by way of Capitol Records. Sharing a title with one of Paul's own paintings, Egypt Station is the first full album of all-new McCartney music since 2013's international chart-topping NEW. Preceded by two of its tracks just released as double A-sides--plaintive ballad "I Don't Know" and raucous stomper "Come On To Me"-Egypt Station was recorded between Los Angeles, London and Sussex, and produced (with the exception of one Ryan Tedder track) by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Beck, Foo Fighters).

Of the forthcoming album's enigmatic title, Paul says, "I liked the words 'Egypt Station.' It reminded me of the 'album' albums we used to make.., Egypt Station starts off at the station on the first song and then each song is like a different station. So it gave us some idea to base all the songs around that. I think of it as a dream location that the music emanates from."

True to the inspiration behind its title, Egypt Station's 14 songs combine to convey a unique travelogue vibe. Between the opening and closing instrumentals "Station I" and "Station II," each song finds Paul capturing a place or moment before transporting the listener seamlessly to the next destination. Stops along the way include an acoustic meditation on present day contentedness ("Happy With You"), a timeless anthem that would fit on virtually any album of any McCartney era ("People Want Peace"), and an epic multi-movement closer clocking in at seven minutes with a song suite structure harkening back to the days of Paul's previous combos ("Despite Repeated Warnings"). The result is a kaleidoscopic journey through myriad musical locales and eras, yet firmly rooted in the here and now--with Paul's singular unmistakable melodic and lyrical sensibility serving as a guide.

    Pipes Of Peace

Perhaps it isn't surprising that McCartney's grip on the pop charts started to slip with Pipes of Peace, since it was released after his 40th birthday -- and most rockers do not mature particularly gracefully. Although it's rather fascinating that the album didn't reach the Top Ten, despite a blockbuster duet with Michael Jackson in Say Say Say, Pipes of Peace bewilders in other ways, particularly in its allusions to Tug of War. It often seems as if this album was constructed as a deliberate mirror image of its predecessor; it is also produced by George Martin, also contains two duets with an African-American superstar (Jackson here, Stevie Wonder there), also acknowledges an old bandmate (a Lennon tribute there, a Ringo cameo here), and even contains Tug of Peace, a deliberate answer song to its predecessor. If only it were nearly as adventurous as Tug of War! Instead of dabbling in all his myriad musical personas, McCartney settles back into a soft rock groove, tempered somewhat by a desire to be contemporary (which means a heavy reliance on drum machines and synthesizers). Instead of sounding modern, McCartney winds up sounding like an aging rocker desperately trying to keep up with the time, but that in turn means that Pipes of Peace can often reveal what the early '80s were like for aging rockers -- he does embrace technology, but he winds up with immaculate productions that are decidedly of their time. Still, at its best, Pipes of Peace is ingratiating soft rock. In particular, the first side is close to irresistible, with the title track being a mid-tempo mini-epic, Say Say Say being fine pop-funk, So Bad being so sickly sweet that it's alluring, The Man being an effervescent Jackson duet, and The Other Me scoring with its square dance beats and winning McCartney vocal. Not enough to add up to a latter-day triumph from McCartney, but it still contains better songs than its blockbuster mid-'70s counterparts, and even if it's a little lightweight, it has more flair in its craft and more style in its sound than other McCartney albums, which is enough to make it a minor musical success, despite its disappointing chart performance.

    New

New will be McCartney's first 'proper' studio album since 2007s Memory Almost Full, his longest gap between pop records in his 50-year career.

The title track for the album has been made available, with Paul describing it to the BBC as "catchy", adding, "it's summery, it's a love song. I think people will recognize it as definitely me."

The track was produced by Mark Ronson, but four different producers have contributed to the album, including Paul Epworth, who co-wrote and produced Adele's Bond theme Skyfall. Ethan Johns and, most intriguingly Giles Martin (son of George, of course), are the other two producers who worked on the record.

    Ocean's Kingdom

Marking his first foray into the word of dance, Paul McCartney has announced the general release of Oceans Kingdom, commissioned by the New York City Ballet. The recording will be released by Decca Records and Hear Music/Telarc and is conducted by John Wilson, produced by John Fraser and performed by The London Classical Orchestra.

Oceans Kingdom is the first time Sir Paul has written an original orchestral score or any kind of music for dance and is the result of a collaboration between Paul and New York City Ballets Master in Chief Peter Martins, who have worked together to present the world premiere of a new ballet for the companys 2011/2012 season this September.

Though the work is Pauls first ballet, he approached the project in the same way he writes all other music, driven by his heart rather than his head and inspired by feeling rather than specific technical knowledge. While this may have been another new turn for his staggeringly varied career to take, Paul knew it had to be influenced by his own personal experience and that he needed to create a story the audience would find equally compelling and moving.

Pauls first step was to visit the Royal Opera House to see Adolphe Adams Giselle, danced by the Royal Ballet. Afterwards, Paul met the dancers and discussed the work with them, realizing as he did so that he was still without a central theme to his work. Keen to tell a story through his music, Paul decided to focus on the purity of the ocean and within just two months, the first draft had been completed. He then went through the music again thinking specifically of the ballet itself, thereby creating a world featuring distinctive characters and a vibrant underworld kingdom. Finally Paul spent many more weeks working alongside Peter Martins to refine the work, before Peter created the choreography with the NYCB dancers.

An hour long score featuring four stunning movements: Oceans Kingdom, Hall of Dance, Imprisonment and Moonrise, the ballet tells of a love story within the story of an underwater world whose people are threatened by the humans of Earth. A potently expressive and richly varied work, the score is Pauls most challenging and emotionally complex yet. As he explains: What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.

The premiere of the ballet Oceans Kingdom will take place at NYCBs Fall Gala on Thursday, September 22nd 2011 while the release of the orchestral score will follow a month later, here on vinyl. It was recorded in June of 2011 in London.

The artwork that accompanies the release is equally striking and inventive. Though it seems to suggest a city skyline, it is actually a digital readout of the notes from the ballet score.

Although this is his first orchestral score for dance, Paul is already quite at home in the world of classical music. His back catalog already carries four classical albums, the most recent of which was the Classical BRIT Award winning Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart); a work for chorus and orchestra in four movements that was released in 2006.

    Electric Arguments

Ambient dreams in rainbow arches describe the circles of The Fireman, is how the duo described their music in a rare interview around the release of their last album Rushes in 1998. Their first album Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest, released in 1993, was a solid ambient dance album heavy on electronics. Around this time the identity of The Fireman was unknown until the press exposed the duo as none other than Paul McCartney and Youth. The now defunct music bible Melody Maker heaped praise on the project, Paul McCartney has discovered dance music, the results are staggeringly brilliant. They (The Fireman) take a melody and, with dexterous genre-hopping through ambient, trance and house, evolve a number of breathtaking variations.

The Fireman return after a ten-year break. Electric Arguments is their third studio album and its not the album people might expect from the mysterious duo. Electric Arguments is an eclectic and varied album consisting of thirteen tracks recorded in thirteen days. Each track was written and recorded in the space of one day with Paul playing all instruments except one track, which Youth plays guitar on. The Fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. The project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band. The albums opener Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight is classic rock and an instant attention grabber. A heavy guitar riff with loud drums and souring vocals, its like nothing The Fireman have ever done before. The second track, the acoustic driven Two Magpies immediately takes you in a different direction, calming things right down. Then we reach the third song Sing The Changes, a euphoric upbeat song with an instantly memorable melody. Electric Arguments continues in this fashion, keeping the listener intrigued as to where The Fireman will take them next. Each album track has an entirely different personality, yet somehow this collection sits together perfectly. Other standout tracks include Light From Your Lighthouse, Sun Is Shining and Dance Til Were High, all in keeping with the genre-hopping spirit of the first two The Fireman albums. From listening to the album its clear that Paul McCartney is still interested in pure musical possibilities. This is an album with something for everyone. Made with no record company restraints or a set release date to work to, Electric Arguments was made with complete artistic and creative freedom.

    Thrillington

Recorded in 1971 but not released until 1977, Thrillington remains one of the most enigmatic entries in the storied McCartney discography. Credited to the pseudonym Percy "Thrills" Thrillington, a fictitious socialite whose activities were chronicled in UK newspaper ads, Thrillington was actually a fully reimagined instrumental lounge/jazz version of Paul and Linda McCartney's RAM. With the 2018 edition, Percy is given a new lease on life with this collector's item available on vinyl for the first time since the 1977 first pressings that fetch hefty sums on the collectors' market, as a 180-gram black vinyl LP.

    Help!

Ranked 332/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

    Pressed on 180 gram Vinyl

Cut from original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios!

Features the beautiful George Martin's 1986 stereo remix

Help! is the fifth album from The Beatles, and is also the soundtrack to their film of the same name. The album contains 12 original songs and only two covers and shows the band taking another giant foot step forward. The most string driven "Yesterday", shows McCartney's strength as a solo artist, while Lennon's "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" shows the growing influence of Bob Dylan further cementing itself into his song writing. This record also marks Lennon and McCartney using keyboards more, with the help of four track over dubbing helping to encourage more experimentation. Lennon also makes use of an acoustic rather than his standard electric guitar. Considered as one of the best Beatles albums before they dive into there dark rock phase.

A team consisting of some of the best producers and engineers in the recording industry were brought together and would spend 4 long years mixing and mastering with some of the most state of the art recording equipment. Treating these records much like a science experiment, engineers ran extensive tests before copying the analog master tapes over into a digital format using 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, and carefully removing clicks, vocal pops and poor edits. Never altering the original songs themselves, just polishing them up a bit.

    In The Pink Of Condition

Recorded at Seahorse Sound Studios in LA and produced by long-time cohort, fellow Welsh ÉmigrÉ and musical maven Cate le Bon, In the Pink Of Condition is his 3rd album, following 2010's A Cup Of Salt and 2011's The Strange Uses Of Ox Gall.

An album of "strange pop" (words borrowed from Huw) it's a controlled explosion of lazer-guided guitar melody - think a careering Television show or Pavement outside the original site of Spillers - and whip smart bi-lingual wordplay.

Although reluctant to cite a shopping list's worth of influences, Huw nods to two permanent inspirations - the maverick U.S. author Richard Brautigan (the Hawkline name appropriated from Brautigan's 1974 'gothic western' The Hawkline Monster) and a just-turned-solo Paul McCartney (Huw namechecks Ram, an album coincidentally recorded when the once-and-future Beatle was also twenty-nine). From the former, a wistful ways with words - songs constructed as slices of life, surrealist observations on the everyday. From the latter - what else would one ask for other than a just smidgeon of MCCartney's six sense for abundant, tumbling melody?

    Nilsson Schmilsson

    Import

Harry Nilsson could be one of the more neglected but great singer-songwriters of the 20th century. John Lennon & Paul McCartney both named him as their favourite American singer in a 1968 press conference.

The Monkees, Fred Astaire, the Yardbirds, and later artists such as Aimee Mann and Mariah Carey recorded his songs.

But ask the average Joe about him, and they probably won't know that he was the man behind classics such as 'Everybody's Talkin', 'One' and 'Without You'.

Harry had a taste for Tin Pan Alley songs & McCartney-esque melodies, but his impish wit and impressive vocal range give his songs an extra dimension.

Nilsson Schmilsson contains his biggest hit 'Without You', along with other classics such as the faux-tropical song 'Coconut' and the bluesy 'Early In The Morning'.

This album is more accessible and cohesive than any of his other albums and received a number of Grammy nominations on its 1971 release, yet it still manages to keep the mischievous and slightly off-kilter humour.

The Beatles: On Air - Live At The BBC Volume 2

Features 63 Tracks Total With 37 Previously Unreleased Performances And 23 Tracks Of In-Studio Banter

Includes a 48 Page Booklet With Rare Photos And An Introduction By Paul McCartney

In 1994, The Beatles' Live at the BBC was released to worldwide acclaim - hitting number one in the U.K., number three in the U.S. and selling more than five million copies within six weeks. A new companion to The Beatles' first BBC collection, On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2, in 180-gram vinyl with a 48-page booklet. On Air's 63 tracks, none of which overlaps with The Beatles' first BBC release, include 37 previously unreleased performances and 23 previously unreleased recordings of in-studio banter and conversation between the band's members and their BBC radio hosts.

In the studios of the British Broadcasting Corporation, The Beatles performed music for a variety of radio shows. On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 presents the sound of The Beatles seizing their moment to play for the nation. Thrilled to hear these exciting recordings again, Paul McCartney said, "There's a lot of energy and spirit. We are going for it, not holding back at all, trying to put in the best performance of our lifetimes."

Ten of On Air's songs were never recorded by the group for EMI in the 1960s, including two making their debuts with the new release: The Beatles' direct-to-air performance of Chuck Berry's "I'm Talking About You" and a rocking cover of the standard "Beautiful Dreamer." On Air also includes different versions of six rarities heard on the 1994 BBC collection: Little Richard's "Lucille," Chuck Berry's "Memphis, Tennessee," Chan Romero's "The Hippy Hippy Shake," Ray Charles' "I Got A Woman," and two songs they learned from records by Carl Perkins, "Glad All Over" and "Sure To Fall."

The Beatles' tribute to the BBC's most important pop show of the early '60s - "Happy Birthday, Dear Saturday Club" - is another surprise. As John Lennon recalled in 1980, "We did a lot of tracks that were never on record for Saturday Club - they were well recorded, too." Paul remembers, "We'd been raised on the BBC radio programs. One of the big things in our week was Saturday Club - this great show was playing the kind of music we loved, so that was something we really aspired to."

Between March 1962 and June 1965, no fewer than 275 unique musical performances by The Beatles were broadcast by the BBC in the U.K. The group played songs on 39 radio shows in 1963 alone. Ringo Starr said in 1994, "You tend to forget that we were a working band. It's that mono sound. There were usually no overdubs. We were in at the count-in and that was it. I get excited listening to them." On their busiest BBC day, July 16, 1963, The Beatles recorded 18 songs for three editions of their Pop Go The Beatles series in fewer than seven hours.

The group played 88 distinct songs in their BBC sessions - some were recorded many times; others performed just once. At the time, three national BBC stations provided all daytime radio broadcasting in the U.K. Only the Light Programme network might occasionally play a record. Most broadcast music was live music. Consequently, to promote their releases, The Beatles had to play live at the BBC. "Everything was done instantly," remembered George Harrison, "But before that, we used to drive 200 miles in an old van down the M1, come into London, try and find the BBC and then set up and do the program. Then we'd probably drive back to Newcastle for a gig in the evening!"

On Air also features BBC recordings of 30 well-loved songs from The Beatles' catalogue, including five number on¬es and other favorites such as: "I Saw Her Standing There," "Twist And Shout," "Do You Want To Know A Secret," "Boys," "Please Mister Postman," "Money," "And I Love Her," and "If I Fell."

Like its critically acclaimed predecessor, On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 includes audio of The Beatles talking to DJs Brian Matthew and Alan Freeman and Pop Go The Beatles hosts Lee Peters and Rodney Burke. When first broadcast, pop fans were amazed to hear such witty irreverence on the rather formal BBC and it is great fun to hear these extracts now. In addition, On Air releases, for the first time, the group's candid interviews for the Pop Profile series recorded in November 1965 and May 1966.

Newly remastered for reissue on November 11, The Beatles' first Live at the BBC album sounds and looks better than ever. This collection of the group's BBC sessions mixed versions of their hits with a treasure trove of 30 songs The Beatles performed on air but never released on record in the 1960s. The compelling track list ranged from a rare performance of the little known Lennon-McCartney original "I'll Be On My Way" to covers of classic rock 'n' roll and contemporary rhythm and blues songs. At the time of its release, Live at the BBC was hailed by Rolling Stone as "an exhilarating portrait of a band in the process of shaping its own voice and vision." It earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination for Best Historical Album.

Live at the BBC was assembled by George Martin in 1994 and On Air - Live at the BBC Volume Two was compiled and researched by producers Kevin Howlett and Mike Heatley. Both albums have been meticulously mastered by engineers Guy Massey and Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios. The booklets for both collections include Kevin Howlett's essays on the history of The Beatles' BBC radio sessions and his detailed commentaries on all of the tracks.
