    When People Grow, People Go

When People Grow, People Go is the new album from Blacklisted.

Recorded by Will Yip at Studio 4, When People Grow, People Go is an eleven song amalgamation of Blacklisted's brave experimental leanings (No One Deserves direction) and their unquestionable hardcore heart (Heavier Than Heaven direction). All of it musically electric, pushed to the point of explosion by vocalist and lyricist George Hirsch's melancholic introspection. Widening the gap between them and everyone else with their inspiring originality, vulnerability, and power.

    Everything All The Time

Guitarist/vocalist Ben Bridwell and bassist Mat Brooke formed Band Of Horses in 2004 after the dissolution of their nearly ten-year run in northwest melancholic darlings Carissa's Wierd. Carissa's Wierd trafficked in sadly beautiful orchestral pop, whose songs told unflinching stories of heartbreak and loss, leavened with defeatist humor. Band Of Horses rises from those ashes. Buoyed by Bridwell's warm, reverb-heavy vocals (which channel a strange brew of Wayne Coyne, Neil Young, and Doug Martsch), the group's woodsy, dreamy songs ooze with amorphous tension, longing, and hope. Both raggedly epic and delicately pensive, this is an album painted gorgeously in fragile highs and lows.

Music From The Films Of R. Swift

INST sounds like Brian Eno and Wendy Carlos had a love child in the 70s and subsequently marooned him/her/it on an Oort Cloud. This largely instrumental electronic project may seem out of character for Richard Swift, with his unmistakable beautiful singing voice, melancholic lyrics, and sophisticated songwriting. With this release, he has resurrected the earliest forms of electronic music, thrown in a few dashes of dub, hip-hop, kraut-rock, and Motown, and created a new hybrid dish. For fans of Re/Search curiosities and other weird, ambient, and electronic headphone arts directed just outside the third eye.

    Somewhere Else

Recorded in a countryside studio outside Copenhagen, Somewhere Else is a highly personal document that's equal parts melancholic lament and hopeful stargazing, with the album title itself an indication of the sense of otherness that runs throughout Søren's music. Heavily evocative of the natural world, the album's cavernous tones and Autumnal warmth just as much recall the vastness of the Scandinavia landscape that formed the backdrop of its conception as it does classic long players from likeminded avant-pop purveyors Flaming Lips and Radio Dept.

    Epitaph

Ever since forming 16 years ago, Irish trio God Is An Astronaut has reigned as one of the premier instrumental groups. With its fusion of intense rock instrumentation, ethereal and emotional soundscapes, awe-inspiring dynamics and transfixing melodies.

Each of their prior releases has offered a breath taking sonic journey, and their ninth emotive opus, Epitaph, is a record that both sees a progression in their sound while still remaining true to their ethos that helped define the band. The cover artwork was painted by French artist Fursy Teyssier and fits the melancholic mood beautifully. Joined by long-time drummer Lloyd Hanney, contributions also come from Xenon Field on sound design and former member Jamie Dean on keys.

The opening title track 'Epitaph' sets the album`s mood. There is pain and loss at work here, but not pain and loss that are given in to. Sparse piano motifs face energetic rhythms, shimmering guitar coatings, and eruptions of dense fury breathe life into a journey of melancholic longing: there is the release experienced when a troubled existence ends in 'Mortal Coil' followed by the somber foreshadowing that is 'Winter Dusk/Awakening'.

The album changes direction slightly with 'Seánce Room' and the music on this highway is taking you someplace meaningful and special - someplace where near and far blur and stars weep over tragedies.

'Komorebi' is a word from Japanese. Think of the interplay between light and leaves when sunlight shines through trees. The song has a melancholic longing or nostalgia for a person, place or thing that is far away from you or about to slip away.

'Medea' references Greek mythology, and the enchantress who married Jason, leader of the Argonauts, only to be later guilty of filicide, a crime so against the natural order of things that you can imagine the stars in the sky weeping. It is not easy to confront such things, but this record and this band don't shirk the challenge.

Finally, the beautiful and hypnotic piece of music that is the album-closing 'Oisín' is in memory of Torsten and Niels' 7-year-old cousin who was tragically taken from this world. It distills into four minutes all the pain, sadness and longing felt by many over a much longer timeframe. A fitting end to an album that will move you deeply and call out to you to be revisited many times.

    Country Life

Ranked 387/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Country Life is Roxy Music's second release after the departure of Brian Eno and it's arguably the highpoint of the band's ouput from that era. The haunting, melancholic The Thrill of It All, the art-rockin' Out of the Blue, the almost-pure '50s rock of If It Takes All Night, the decadent affectations of A Really Good Time and the concluding Prairie Rose, all offer glimpses of alternative rock before the genre even existed. The combination of textures is exhilarating, and the songwriting which draws on elements of R&B, cabaret music and glam rock is among the band's most accomplished. Paegan Terrorism Tactics (Awaiting Repress)

Louisiana group Acid Bath achieved a good deal of notoriety in the '90s for their musical ability of blending extreme, grindcore-influenced sludge metal and eath growls with a mixture of melancholic goth-style vocals, spoken word, and acoustic guitar passages. Their combination of stoner and doom metal roots with influences from hardcore, black metal and blues-rock created a unique sound that influences many bands today.

Before Acid Bath dismantled in 1997 they created their second and final full-length album Paegan Terrorism Tactics which futher established the band's unique Southern hybrid of metal with a more melodic songwriting approach. The songs are stylistically all over the map, but bound together in part by frontman Dax Riggs' powerful singing and dark lyrics. Remastered on vinyl for the first time!

    1000 Unit Limited Edition Vinyl

An intrepid musical enigma. - BBC

Directed by Josh C. Waller and starring Rachel Nichols, Cory Monteith
and Mike Vogel, McCanick tells the story of a narcotics detective on
the hunt for a seemingly harmless young criminal who know the truth
about the cop's past. The film takes place over the course of 24 hours.

The music is composed by acclaimed Icelandic
composer Jóhann Jóhannsson who recently scored Denis
Villeneuve's Prisoners. The score is beautiful, elegant and haunting
and does not fit the traditional definition of film music. Jóhann
Jóhannsson belongs to this generation of modern composers such as
Max Richter, Clint Mansell, and Cliff Martinez who combine classical
orchestration with electronic music. Famous for his melancholic solo
albums, Jóhann Jóhannsson has created with McManick a score that
stands on its own and plays out as a full on artist record
complementing an already rich and beautiful repertoire.

We're thrilled to announce details of Cherry Ghost's third album 'Herd Runners' which will be released on Heavenly Recordings/PIAS.

The record follows up 2007's 'Thirst For Romance' and 2010's 'Beneath This Burning Shoreline', which have since seen Simon Aldred become a songwriter-for-hire, nurturing upcoming British talent including Sam Smith and Kwabs, as well as release a set of critically lauded post-midnight electronic love songs under the guise of Out Cold.

Recorded in Sheffield with long-term Richard Hawley collaborator Colin Elliot and mixed in Bath with Dan Austin, Herd Runners is ten perfectly crafted tales of heartbreak and hope - shifting from soaring, symphonic pop ('Clear Skies Ever Closer') to melancholic lock-in blues ('Drinking for Two') via an almost uncompromisingly hopeful rhythmic shuffle ('The World Could Turn').

With surreal nightmares, glistening pop tempered by sinister
undertones and even unsettling experimentalism, The Fresh & Onlys'
fifth album, House of Spirits is the San Francisco quartet's most
focused and most experimental yet. The material gestated during
vocalist Tim Cohen's isolated stay on an Arizonan horse ranch where
he documented dreams in a bedside notebook. The resultant songs are
by turns pristine, feverish, and bizarre, as The Fresh & Onlys returned
to Lucky Cat Studios in San Francisco with Phil Manley (Trans Am)
to recast the textures, leaps of logic and evocative character of
    Cohen's dreams into songs.

Supersonic Home, the anticipated debut LP from Pittsburgh's resident musical wunderkinds
Adventures, is an ambitious blend of powerhouse influences: these ten songs reimagine of the
best parts of 90's alt-rock and emo and infuse them with the cathartic energy of punk. However,
Adventures delivers much more than just the sum of these parts. Throughout upbeat anthems like
opener "Dream Blue Haze" and pensive, melancholic retreats like "Tension and "Long Hair," the
constant vocal tandem of Reba Meyers and Kimi Hanauer radiates above every infectious poprock
riffs and the warm, rhythmic backbone of bass and keyboard. No matter what draws you

    New Alhambra

In many ways, new alhambra is an auditory homage to what has shaped lead singer Mathew Lee
Cothran's life. Its title, as any hardcore pro-wrestling fan will recognize, credits the Philadelphia
arena that birthed its most legendary and extreme version of it, and the use of samples from wrestling
shows serve as a reference to his upbringing. The album was characteristically made with
outdated equipment and limited by only one microphone, with Mike "Dr. Vink" Roberts playing
an essential role on bass that enrichens the rockier resonations in comparison to elvis depressedly's
previous releases. Cothran and Delaney were constantly on the move during the recording
process thanks to their new found career freedom, but none of it takes away from new alhambra
fully texturized shift toward brightly melancholic noise-pop inspired by Cothran's favorite unsung

    Release Date: July 6, 2018*

Rising singer-songwriter Sasha Sloan has signed to RCA Records. After emerging last fall writing and appearing on several high-profile collaborations, Sasha released her debut single "Ready Yet" and has amassed over 10.4 million Streams on Spotify alone. Since then, she's established herself as an artist to watch as she continues to release emotionally-rich, left-of-center pop such as her first release of 2018, "Normal." Heralded by Billboard as a "catchy introvert anthem," the track has already been streamed over 9.4 million times. Both "Ready Yet" and "Normal" are among the six tracks featured on Sasha's debut EP, sad girl, set for release on vinyl via RCA Records.

Along with "Ready Yet" and "Normal," sad girl features the string-drenched "Fall," the heart-wrenching ballad "Here," the equally vulnerable yet optimistic "Hurt," and "Runaway." "Runaway," as Complex put it, "finds Sloan pouring her soul out over a melancholic backdrop as she deals with heartbreak."

"I wanted to put out a blueprint for who I am with this EP, because I'm still figuring it out. It's definitely been scary at times, but it's also been exciting to share these songs and hear how people relate to them," Sasha says, "I'm so grateful for everyone's support over these last few months and am excited to be a part of RCA as I continue to grow."

Says Peter Edge, Chairman and CEO, RCA Records; "We are thrilled to have Sasha Sloan join the RCA Records family. Her brilliant confessional songwriting and phenomenal melancholic vocal style represent a fresh, unique artistic vision and perspective. We're looking forward to a very bright future together."

    Ugly But Honest

Formed in 1995 by Mat Brooke and Jenn Ghetto, Carissa's Wierd spent the better part of a decade crafting intricate, melancholic music with hushed harmonies, heartrending lyrics, and sweeping string movements. While Brooke and Ghetto formed the core of the group, various incarnations of the band also included Sera Cahoone, Ben Bridwell, Sarah Standard, and Jeff Hellis, amongst others. Upon the dissolution of Carissa's Wierd, former members of the band went on to form Grand Archives, S, Sera Cahoone, and most notably, Band of Horses. The widespread success of these projects in many ways legitimizes the humble beginnings of Carissa's Wierd and the promise of their sound.

Following the release of the retrospective compilation, Theyll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003, Hardly Art is reissuing all three of the Carissas Wierd full-lengths. Long out of print, Ugly But Honest is the first record in the Carissas Wierd trilogy, originally released on CD by Brown Records in 2000. It is now being released on vinyl for the first time via Hardly Art. The vinyl version comes on opaque blue double vinyl and is housed in a full-color gatefold jacket with download code.

    Songs About Leaving

Long out of print, Songs About Leaving is the third and final record in the Carissas Wierd trilogy, originally released on CD by Sad Robot in 2002. It is now being released on vinyl for the first time via Hardly Art. The LP version of this release comes on marbled light green wax and housed in a custom dust sleeve with a download code.

    Wild And Foolish Heart

Suzanne Langille started her recording career as a vocalist alongside Loren Mazzacane Connors on a string of rare LPs in the mid-'80s acclaimed for their startling transformation of the blues. Since, Langille has added vocals and lyrics to many of Connors albums, including the landmark Hell's Kitchen Park, collaborated with San Agustin and issued a conceptual full-length on Secretly Canadian in 1998. But all along a proper solo album has never surfaced until now.

Wild & Foolish Heart joins Langille with Indian classical musician Neel Murgai, a long-time collaborator and leader of his own ensemble. Langille's blues-filled moans are perfectly matched to the dazzling drone and subtle melodic rhythm of Murgai's tanpura and daf (Persian frame drum). Their reworking of popular/traditional songs and Langille's own dramatic compositions draw out redemption, sorrow and celebration in a way that makes listening to these sides feel like uncovering a lost field recording of otherworldly haunts or spirituals. Langille's pervading melancholic tone flares in the tradition of Patti Smith and Thalia Zedek at times. The LP ends with a scorching blowout from the Haunted House band, the legendary/defunct downtown 'blues rock' improv-combo fronted by Langille, with Murgai, Connors and San Augstin guitarist Andrew Burnes.

This 550-edition LP features cover art from Loren Connors, a selection of his rarely seen photography/collage work, and is pressed in an edition of 550 copies.

    In The Silence

'In The Silence' is the English language version of Ásgeir's breakthrough debut album 'Dyrd í dauðathogn', translated from Icelandic by John Grant.

Born and raised in the hamlet of Laugarbakki (population, 40) in the wilds of Iceland, Ásgeir comes from a large family of musicians. Last year, at just 20 years of age he became an overnight sensation in his domestic music scene with the September release of Dyrd í dauðathogn breaking all records to become Iceland's fastest and biggest selling debut album by a home grown artist, outselling Björk and Sigur Rós. Staggeringly, one in ten of the the Icelandic population now owns the album.

Produced by Gudmundur Kristinn Jonsson, in Iceland the unusual poetry of Dyrd í dauðathogn attracted almost as much attention as the music itself, in part because it was mostly written by Ásgeir's 72 year old father. Combining both electronic and organic elements, the songs themselves are all Ásgeir: light and airy, inset with his distinctively melancholic voice, their vibrancy elevates his appeal way beyond the folktronica tag.

    Palingenesis

'Palingenesis' is impossibly delicate, impeccably rendered neofolk; it is transporting and autumnal, bringing spectral figures into focus, exploring with curiosity and wonder the darkest heart of a vast folkloric wilderness. - Michael Nelson (STEREOGUM)

Derived from the greek words for 'birth' [genesis] and 'again' [palin], the term Palingenesis refers to a variety of concepts of rebirth and recreation, ranging from the stoic idea of the continuing recreation of the cosmos, the christian belief in spiritual regeneration through baptism, or the originally pythagoreean concept of the souls' transmigration into a new body. NEBELUNG take up the energy behind these concepts, using them as archetypal images for mans' eternal strive for spiritual perfection in a meditation on death and decay, transformation and renewal.

More than two years on the making, the release of PALINGENESIS defines a new era for NEBELUNG. Where its predecessors had been singing the hymn of autumn and night by the means of simply structured melancholic folk songs, PALINGENESIS takes on a different approach, transcending the boundaries of lyrics and song, sparing light and reason, and letting the music take on a direct and unaltered way to the depths of the subconscious. PALINGENESIS is a deep and transforming listen, with tracks built up like Mantras, tucking the listener into a dense and detailed tapestry of subtly woven, intertwining melodies and drones, rich in detail and structure, incorporating such a variety of acoustic instruments as both classical and steel stringed guitars, cello, accordion, indian harmonium, hammered dulcimer, glass harp, percussion and voice.

    Fortuna

Fortuna, the second full length from New Zealand trio
Popstrangers, trades the grunge revivalism of the band's
previous releases for buoyant hooks and '60s pop. Pairing their
minor-key riffs with pervasively melancholic songwriting, the
band's rened sense of melody is on full display on Fortuna,
which echoes the classic guitar pop of their homeland's Flying
    Nun Records.

Recorded over ve days in London, Popstrangers' warped tales
of infatuation and aggression are anchored by Joel Flyger's
tactile vocals, which steep in subterranean effects before
ripping clean through the album's choruses. The band's pop
sensibilities are at their best on standout Country Kills, where
Flyger shrugs off his looming demise with a wink and an
indelible riff. My country will kill me now, but whatever. The
band is quick to tamper Fortuna's catchy strains with atonal
guitars and a nervous pace, the record's building sense of
anxiety concluding with the psych comedown of What's On
    Your Mind?

Eschewing the squalling guitars that propelled their debut album
Antipodes for clear-headed production and lush choruses,
Popstrangers hit their stride on Fortuna, crystallizing their
inuences into a succinct record of indie psych that never
    lingers too long.
