Comet, Come To MeMeshell returns to the same well of creativity that launched her career. CCTM is Meshell's 11th release, and possibly a culmination of them all - lush, vocal, seeking, wise, collaborative, and driven by the signature bounce and precise pocket of Ndegeocello on bass. Now assured of her place as an authentic musical thinker and an uncompromising artist, she forges on to discover, examine, and explore all that music has to offer her and how she can return the gift.
Mercurial and masterful, Meshell Ndegeocello has eschewed genre for originality, celebrity for longevity, and musicals trends for musical truths. She has
lived through the boom and bust of the industry and emerged just as she entered - unequivocally herself. Fans have come to expect the unexpected from
Meshell, and faithfully followed her on sojourns into soul, spoken word, R&B, jazz, hip-hop, rock, all bound by a lyrical, spiritual search for love, justice,
respect, resolution, and happiness.1. Friends

Devil's HaloDevils Halo, Meshell Ndegeocello's 8th album, harkens back to the way records used to be made with live band energy and phenomenal musicianship. Influenced by a breadth of sounds, from The Human League to Wu Tang to Yes, Devils Halo displays Meshells own diversity of formidable gifts. Always the uncompromising artist and bass player, this record brings a broad range of musical and lyrical voices and selves: the searcher, the skeptic, the dissenter, and the lover. True to form, Meshell offers compositions with raging climaxes alongside moments of terrifying tenderness and honesty. Genre-defiant as ever, Devils Halo asks for the real fans of exploration to please stand up.
Canonized, marginalized or just scrutinized, Meshell Ndegeocello has given up with the politics of explaining herself. After 20 years in an industry that has called her everything from avant garde to a dying breed, what unquestionably remains is the fearsome bassist, prolific songwriter and the creativity and curiosity of an authentic musical force. With that, she has earned critical acclaim, the unfailing respect of fellow players, songwriters and composers, and the dedication of her diverse, unclassifiable fans. For the sake of setting the record straight, a few brass tacks remain: Meshell was born in Germany, raised in DC, signed at 23, and has been nominated for 10 Grammy awards.1. Slaughter

All Rise: A Joyful Elegy For Fats WallerAcclaimed pianist Jason Moran will release All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller, a collaboration with the vocalist Meshell
Ndegeocello that recasts the music of the legendary jazz entertainer Fats Waller as a modern dance party. The album-which was produced by
Ndegeocello and Blue Note Records president Don Was-is the ninth in a formidable catalog that Moran has been building on Blue Note since 1999.
All Rise features Moran hosting a changeable cast of musicians that includes vocalists Ndegeocello and Lisa E. Harris, his longtime trio The Bandwagon
featuring bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits, and a funky horn-inflected ensemble anchored by drummer Charles Haynes that features
trumpeter Leron Thomas and trombonist Josh Roseman, as well as guest saxophonist Steve Lehman. The album was recorded and mixed by Bob Power,

Neo-Ancient Nubian aphorism.
Once in Time, in an emerald veld of near solitude, Two met.
One Cat and One Stas. Born under different signs. Destined to shine under
the same moons.
They agreed, upon meeting, that the old force fields rooted in sonics were
necessary once again.
They commenced to make.
It was cold out. They made. It became warmer. They continued. The orb
shone from above with intensity. They continued to make. The trees shifted
hues and shed...They made.
In this din, this mantra of making, they became Sisters of a very specific rite.
Ethereal. The foundation of empires lost and regained.
In this din the force field grew.
The first time I saw them they glowed. They were palpable amongst the flat.
Regal in a manner that is now mostly forgotten.
Not generic in that description either. Specific.
As in the Queens of some Where. The Queens of some Thing.
Sorceress Queens who dealt in aural incantation architecture.
Possessors of keys to deeper feelings. Unlockers of healing.
I became a devotee to the sonic altars they had, and continue to construct.
One Cat. One Stas. Past Lovers. Present Friends. Future Deities.
THEESatisfaction. Exalted heavenward (outward, spaceward) upon the aurally

They made me for you.

AshIbeyi is set to release Ash via XL Recordings. Their first album, the eponymous Ibeyi, grappled with the past-the sister's relationship, origins, loss, and roots. It earned them fans and collaborators in some of the most iconic and crucial artists of today, BeyoncÉ, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre included. By contrast, Ash is a more visceral and potent political statement, and while firmly rooted in Afro-Cuban culture and history, finds itself entirely concerned with Ibeyi's present: Who Lisa-KaindÉ and Naomi are, what's important to them, and how they live today, especially given that the spheres, both personally and politically, are entirely different from when Ibeyi was recorded. It's also a testament to their cathartic live performances, where they're able to transmute a vast array of emotions-sorrow, anger, sensuality, happiness-to and through their fans.
Ash is also a study in deft electronic production. Ibeyi worked once again alongside XL head Richard Russell, a confidante, and friend, to produce Ash at his studio. "We absolutely wanted, 100%, to work with him again: It was not even a question," Lisa-KaindÉ says. "Richard is an amazing producer... wherever you want to go, he will guide you there. But it feels like you're playing with him. You're sharing ideas together and he has an amazing ear. It's like a flow, it's really easy." To that effect, Naomi adds: "It's like we produced the album too, actually, and it's a good feeling." Along with Russell's stylized production sensibilities, Ibeyi drew from a host of influences ranging from Kendrick Lamar, Jay Electronica, Meshell Ndegeocello, Erykah Badu and Nina Simone and beyond, to craft the wide-ranging musical landscape of Ash.1. Mehliana: Taming the Dragon
Two 140-gram LPs Pressed At Pallas MFG In Diepholz, Germany
Includes CD Of The Album
Nonesuch Records releases the debut album from the electric duo of Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana, Mehliana: Taming the Dragon. The two have been performing for several years, including a brief US tour this fall and an ongoing European tour, with Mehldau playing Fender Rhodes and synthesizers and Guiliana on drums and effects, as they are on the record. Mehliana comprises 12 original tunes-six written by the duo and six written by Mehldau-and was engineered and mixed by Greg Koller (Jon Brion, Kanye West). The vinyl edition of the album includes two 140-gram LPs pressed at Pallas MFG in Diepholz, Germany, and a CD of the album.
Brad Mehldau played in a number of different ensembles, including label mate Joshua Redman's quartet, before becoming a bandleader himself in the 1990s. The Brad Mehldau Trio, which tours the world extensively, made eight acclaimed recordings for Warner Bros., including the five widely praised Art of the Trio albums with former drummer Jorge Rossy (released as a boxed set by Nonesuch in 2011). The pianist's nine years with Nonesuch have been equally productive, beginning with the solo disc Live in Tokyo and including six trio records Day Is Done, House on Hill, Live, Ode, and Where Do You Start, as well as a collaboration with soprano RenÉe Fleming, Love Sublime; a chamber ensemble album, Highway Rider; two collaborations with label mate Pat Metheny, Metheny Mehldau and Quartet, the latter of which also includes Trio members Jeff Ballard and Larry Grenadier; a CD/DVD set of live solo performances, Live in Marciac; and collaborations with genre-crossing musicians on Modern Music, with composer/pianist Kevin Hays and composer/arranger Patrick Zimmerli. Additionally, he produced saxophonist Joshua Redman's 2013 release Walking Shadows.
According to Modern Drummer, Mark Guiliana is "at the forefront of an exciting new style of drumming." The New Jersey native's unique and un-compromised approach to playing the drums has earned him international acclaim as both a leader and a sideman. In 2004, Guiliana created HEERNT, an "experimental-garage-jazz" trio based in New York. The band's debut record, Locked in a Basement, was called the record "the most exuberant, dramatic, beautiful, sassy, genre-busting little outing that I've heard since I don't know when" by legendary drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson). As a sideman, Guiliana's longest partnership has been with world-renowned jazz bassist Avishai Cohen. He toured all over the world with Cohen from 2003 until 2008, performing on six studio records and a live DVD recorded at the Blue Note in Manhattan. Guiliana has also recorded and/or performed with Meshell Ndegeocello, Dhafer Youssef, Wayne Krantz, Matisyahu, Jazz Mandolin Project, Jason Lindner, Brad Shepik, Bobby McFerrin, Tigran Hamasyan, and many more. His debut solo record, Beat Music, which was co-produced by Ndegeocello, was released in the spring of 2013. Guiliana plays Gretsch drums, Sabian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks, and Evans drumheads.1. Summer SkinSummer Skin, the new album from Amy Cook is set for release on Roothouse Records/Thirty Tigers. The 12-songs on Summer Skin feature an all-star band, special cameos and Cook's strongest songwriting and recording to date. Cook successfully achieves the perfect balance between intelligent, thoughtful singer/songwriter and strong rock chick. Rolling Stone desribes Cook as "a brassier, dusty Deborah Harry."
Summer Skin represents a new plateau for Cook as an artist. "This is the happiest I've ever been with anything I've ever recorded," says Cook, "I was working with people who really were able to get into my mind and help me let go of my expectations, instead of worrying 'is this gonna rock hard enough or be rootsy enough or be smart enough.'"
Those people begin with producer Craig Street, whose long list of credits includes Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Henry and K.D. Lang. Then comes an all-star band, featuring David Garza (guitar), Me'Shell N'Degeocello (bass), Chris Bruce (guitar) and Jonathan Wilson (drums).
Cook had a few other friends make some special contributions to Summer Skin. Robert Plant sings harmony with Cook on the beautiful "It's Gonna Rain," and joins Patty Griffin on the moody "Airplane Driver." Ben Kweller co-wrote and sings back up on the catchy rocker "Getting To You."1. Waiting 4 the World 2 End

Acoustic SoulIndia Arie's Acoustic Soul is just as advertised: grooving soul music with an acoustic bent. Arie herself plays guitar, supplemented by strings (instead of synthesizers) and drums (instead of drum machines). The first single, Video, is a calm, confident ode to self-love, comparing the dreadlocked, petite Arie to the average girl in a video. Arie is indeed anything but average: her debut marks the auspicious return of the black female singer-songwriter, in the vein of Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Tracy Chapman, and Dionne Farris. If you like their music, with thoughtful lyrics and layers of instrumentation, you'll love this album. Video is fabulous, but other high points include Ready for Love, a lament that smolders before slowly building to a crescendo, with tinkling piano, guitar, and cello swelling beneath the vocal. Strength, Courage, and Wisdom is an optimistic anthem that'll have you clapping your hands and swaying from side to side, and the best track on the album, Simple, is a straightforward love song with a pulsating beat. Acoustic Soul may not be full of radio-friendly tracks, but every track is strong, and the disc improves each time you press play. --Courtney Kemp1. Intro
