The Electric LadyAs she began the audacious task of following up on her acclaimed debut LP The ArchAndroid - an album that topped critic's lists in 2010 all over the world - she took along some trusty, brave companions: the original music producers of The ArchAndroid, Nate Rocket Wonder and Chuck Lightning of Wondaland Productions. And together they crafted a new strain of jamming music they called ish. In the hip hop community, ish is a euphemism for the profane four-letter word for excrement, but as Monáe explains, they set out, like proverbial alchemists, to turn lesser substances into gold.
This entire project was produced by Wonder & Lightning. We set out to make a soundtrack for the Obama era, something that spoke to the beautiful, majestic and revolutionary times that we're living in. The musical language we're speaking now is called ish. In the African-American community, we've been turning left-overs (like chitlins) and social depredation (like poverty) into delicacies and fine art for years. So we just set out to turn the rubbish all around us into something beautiful. Ish is the bowtie on the funk.
From the sound of The Electric Lady, ish is an urgent and dangerous form of dance music, rebel music that forces one to fight, jam, and fall in love. Like on The ArchAndroid, the sonic textures of the album are varied, and the past and present come together to explode and create a mind-blowing future for pop and soul music. For example, wondrous strings reminiscent of Curtis Mayfield and Bernard Herrmann orchestrations abound, Hendrixian guitar solos soar, Outkast-like raps float over punk rock riffs; defiant socially-conscious lyrics extol the virtues of soul-searching and fighting for change, while the funk simply melts your speakers: 808s boom and Prince-like synthesizers squiggle in your earhole, making it veritably impossible to just sit still.LP 1

Sondre LercheSondre Lerche's eponymous new release is the artist's sixth full-length album and his first on his own label, Mona Records. An artistic statement of purpose, this fittingly self-titled album contains not only Sondre's most interesting arrangements and catchy songwriting to date, but also some of his most somber and introspective.
Here the Norwegian-born artist relishes in exploring friendships and creative alliances forged in his new Williamsburg, Brooklyn neighborhood. The album features longtime producer/collaborator Kato Ã...dland, Dave Heilman, drummer for Lerche-collaborator Regina Spektor, and co-producer, mixer and owner of Rare Book Room Studio, Nicolas Verhnes (Spoon, Animal Collective).

PleaseAn artist's capability to transform suffering into great work is one of humanity's great phenomena. When considering the "divorce" subcategory of suffering and the "music" subcategory of art, the manifestation has traditionally tended toward the dirge (e.g. Dylan's "Blood On The Tracks," Mitchell's "Blue). Please, Sondre Lerche's stunning new album, however, is a different animal: despite aligning with a recent divorce from his wife of eight years, it is brimming with crisp electronic flourishes, bold, economic production, and an infectious new energy and sense of purpose. Lerche doesn't just transform his suffering into art on Please-which was recorded between his hometown of Bergen and Brooklyn, his home-of-nine-years-he shows us how he's doing it. The juxtaposition of romantic idealism and the chaotic struggle to live up to said ideals is meticulously explored: for the first time in his career, Lerche is presented unraveled. The moans and wails are unedited, and the cutting room floor is clean. Lerche has always written about love, but never in such a primal, sexual way. His well-proven melodic instincts are sharper than ever, but he's moved from the brain to the body, from the soulful to the physical. The struggles themselves become the songs.1. Bad Law

Tea for the TillermanCat Stevens' highly regarded 1970 release, Tea for the Tillerman came only seven months after the start of his comeback with Mona Bone Jakon and its arrangements, performances and songs are all enveloped in a confident grace and beauty. Stevens was able to pull off a rare feat with Tea for the Tillerman in that he was able to achieve pop accessibility without having to sacrifice artistic relevance. The album is also noteworthy for having four of its songs Where Do the Children Play?, On the Road to Find Out, Tea for the Tillerman and Miles from Nowhere featured in Hal Ashby and Colin Higgins' 1971 black comedy Harold and Maude.1. The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick

Re-Issue Of Out Of Print Vinyl
Certified Platinum By The Recording Industry Association Of America
After he gained legendary status rapping on Doug E. Fresh's La Di Da Di, it was only a matter of time before the world would clutch British-born Ricky Walters to its heart. Rick had already fancied himself a rabid storyteller (and a mighty good one) on Fresh's track The Show, and Great Adventures became Slick Rick's novella. Not content with one perspective, Slick Rick often employed tag-team rhyming with himself as his own partner (Mona Lisa, Teacher Teacher). His cautionary tales (Hey Young World, Children's Story, Teenage Love) work much better than his freaky tales (Treat Her Like a Prostitute, Indian Girl). Still, it doesn't take a musicologist to appreciate the complex rhyme schemes and scenarios of The Moment I Feared, Children's Story, and Mona Lisa, and his slight accent heightened his distinctiveness. Despite lukewarm response to his follow-up--as well as a stint in the pokey--Slick Rick will always be remembered for his Great Adventures, an essential B-boy document. --Todd InoueLP 1

UnforgettableEmerging as a great pop vocal stylist in 1954, Nat King Cole enjoyed a string of hit singles and albums thereon, but Unforgettable is perhaps the singer at his early peak. With romance as the watchword, Cole slides through some of his most familiar ballads, include the title selection, Portrait of Jennie, Mona Lisa, and I Love You (For Sentimental Reasons). There are quite a few lesser known, but attractive songs, plus a small handful of standards (What'll I Do? is a keeper) that round out this interesting collection. The very artistic, near surreal three-dimensional white, charcoal black, and royal blue-hued front cover may be the best part of this reissue, as it reflects a time period defined by its simplicity and yet its increasingly technological, superimposed modernity.

UNIM-DOG-0710xAll American Rejects
When The World Comes DownLimited Repress Gatefold LP On Clear Vinyl With White And Blue Starburst
The All-American Rejects began writing material for their third studio album in late December 2006 after wrapping up their Tournado tour, and continued through into the new year. But due to further touring and promotion for their second album Move Along, the band did not enter the studio until nearly a year later. This was also the first time lyricists Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter tried new methods of writing by escaping to various regional areas in North America to conceive new lyrics so that the songs could sound honest.
The first songs to be written that made it onto the album were I Wanna, Back to Me, and Breakin'. While I Wanna was written over a six-month period, with Ritter making constant refinements, the following songs Gives You Hell and Another Heart Calls were all written during a road trip to Vancouver, Canada, with Fallin' Apart and Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down) getting scored in Rabun County, Georgia, the latter of which was recorded live in one take. The album was later named When the World Comes Down as Ritter saw the title track as a perfect, simple work of art.
The All-American Rejects began recording for When the World Comes Down at Skywalker Ranch in San Rafael, California and later at Barefoot Studios with producer Eric Valentine. The 16-piece orchestra featured on a dozen of the tracks was recorded at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California.
In an interview with She Knows Entertainment, Ritter commented I think When the World Comes Down has been a journey. I was twenty-three when I started writing this record. I'm twenty-four now... people say when you graduate college you figure out who you are. If I had graduated college, this would be that moment - now. I think I was most questioning life when I was getting off the road with Move Along and this record was therapy for me. It's everything I needed it to be for me.1. I Wanna

Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The NIght)With his reintroduction to the pop world behind him, renowned singer-songwriter Yusuf (the artist known as Cat Stevens) is ready to once again strike up an intimate relationship with his audience. After retreating from the pop stage following classic '70s multi-platinum albums such as Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat and acclaimed hits such as Wild World, Peace Train, Moonshadow, Morning Has Broken and Father And Son, Yusuf returned in late 2006 with his first pop album in 28 years. Now he's back again with a second album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night).
I was absent from my audience for so long, Yusuf says, people thought another album would never come. The 2006 album, An Other Cup, was a surprise. With this new album, the distance is much less. I'm back to doing what I do best, painting pictures with music and storytelling on a very human, personal, intuitive level through lyrics and song, so I can help people feel good again. I guess in some ways the new album picks up where the Cat Stevens the public knows left off.
The album, Roadsinger (To Warm You Through The Night), was produced by the now singularly named Yusuf with help from Martin Terefe (James Morrison, Jason Mraz, Martha Wainwright), and recorded around the world. Guests include Morrison, Michelle Branch and Holly Williams (granddaughter of Hank Williams, Sr.).
The new album is a response to the way An Other Cup was received, Yusuf explains. Fans said they wanted to hear more of me with a guitar. So, this album is much more folk-tale oriented. Also, apart from one track, all of it was recorded live. I listened to a lot of' '70s L.A. music, such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, and it inspired me to go back into that intimate style of recording. The songs are somewhat autobiographical but abstract enough so everyone can relate to them and connect them to their own lives.
The title track, Roadsinger, unfolds the tale of an outcast who revisits his old hometown; along the empty street a child peeks from behind a store window and gives an innocent smile out of the shadows of prejudice. The theme of a journey has always been big with me, says Yusuf. A journey that was unexpectedly cut short in 2004 was when Yusuf was flying from his London home to Washington, D.C., en route to a meeting with Dolly Parton, who had recorded Peace Train several years earlier and wanted Yusuf to play guitar on her cover of his Where Do the Children Play. The incident that made headlines was resolved in 2006 and Yusuf's new song Boots and Sand resulted.
There are plenty people who sing, but not enough who have walked far from their block, he says. I embraced an unexpected spiritual path that was confusing for many (converting to Islam in 1977). Sadly, I'm still often misunderstood. Some people want to put me into their own one-sided view, but I don't fit those limitations. My world is still borderless and wide. The removal of conflict and establishment of peace has always been my global objective. It's a shame that lot of people, including some Muslims, overlook the name Islam, which actually comes from the word 'Peace' in Arabic.
The forthcoming album also showcases some songs from his upcoming musical Moonshadow. The story takes place on a planet of perpetual night where only the moon's shine lights the darkness; it is about a boy's meeting with his Moonshadow and the adventures they share in search for the a world of the sunlight and happiness. As well as having many new songs, the surrealistic musical, Moonshadow also weaves classic songs from his past, including Morning Has Broken, Wild World and The First Cut Is The Deepest.
Yusuf's return to his guitar came about when his teenage artist-musician son, Muhammad (aka Yoriyos), brought one home again. One morning, Yusuf was alone in the lounge when he looked over and felt a draw of curiosity overtake him. He slowly picked it up. I put my fingers on the fretboard to make a 'C' chord, he remembers, and surprised myself, It's still there! It felt right. So I started playing again. On the forthcoming album, Yusuf even plays electric guitar on a couple of tracks, along with keyboards. This part of my career feels similar in one sense to when I began, Yusuf reflects. I had to get past the songs on Mona Bone Jakon before I could move on to Tea For The Tillerman, etc. This time around it was the same story: I laid the groundwork with my debut album, An Other Cup, which inspired a great new collection of songs and scribblings. I had quite a few in my back pocket and again it was my son who sparked the next step. He said, 'Isn't it time to start recording a new album?' And it was.

Bad Moms is a 2016 American black comedy film directed and written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover). The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Annie Mumolo, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Christina Applegate.
Bad Moms won a People's Choice award for Best Comedy. The film premiered on July 19, 2016, and grossed over $179 million in less than a year and became a surprising blockbuster movie.
Amy (Mila Kunis) has a seemingly perfect life - a great marriage, over-achieving kids, beautiful home and a career. However, she's over-worked, over-committed and exhausted to the point that she's about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities, going on a wild, un-mom-like binge of long overdue freedom, fun, and self-indulgence - putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn and her clique of devoted perfect moms.
A sequel (A Bad Mom's Christmas) and spin-off (Bad Dads) are scheduled for later this year.
The soundtrack includes well-known songs and artists like DNCE, KT Tunstall, Janelle MonaÉ, Foreigner, Walk The Moon, Icona Pop feat Charli XCX and many more. Christopher Lennertz (Medal of Honor, Sausage Party, Smurfs: The Lost Village) composed the score music.

SONM-RCA-1218xSmoke & Jackal
EP No. 1EP No. 1 marks the first collaboration between Jared Followill (Kings of Leon) and Nick Brown (Mona). Followill and Brown began recording as Smoke & Jackal earlier this year, fueled by multiple bottles of red wine and a shared fascination with timbre, rhythm, and aural adventure. They set to work at Brown's Nashville home studio and before the first evening was through, the duo had crafted both No Tell and the stunning psychedelic slow jam, Fall Around. The two musicians immediately understood they had created something special, an evocative and original melding of oceanic rock with bottomless grooves and hypnotic dub textures. Just over one week later, EP1 was complete. Defined by Followill's liquid bass lines and Brown's soaring and expressive vocals, songs like Road Side and the closing Safe Face are both ingenious and accessible, their surprising soundscapes counterpointed by indelible melodies and haunting hooks. Smoke & Jackal's EP1 is the sound of two talented friends allowing their music to freely go places no one could have anticipated.1. Fall Around

Top Of The WorldSlightly Stoopid's Top of the World continues the onward and upward trend within the band members' musicianship, while bringing the purity and energy of their live shows into the studio for recording sessions. Top of the World is most comparatively aligned with Slightly Stoopid's 2005 studio release of Closer to the Sun, except now the addition and solidification of both trumpet and saxophone are more profound. This is certainly not a step backwards, if anything, Slightly Stoopid enhanced their sound ten fold from their most successful album of all time.
Top of the World contains everything a music enthusiast will adore long after the first spin of the album. Whether the listener adores the hip-hop beats of the album's title track, the uplifting horns on "Don't Stop", the pure roots-reggae style of "Work", or the soulful cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire," Top of the World has all the necessary qualities of an instant classic.
To take the album to another level, Slightly Stoopid invited a whole host of musical studs in their own right with Barrington Levy on "Ur Love", "Ska Diddy" featuring Angelo Moore of Fishbone, "Just Thinkin" featuring Chali 2na, "Mona June" featuring Angela Hunte, "Hiphoppablues" with G. Love, and the legendary Jamaican singer and songwriter Don Carlos on "Marijuana".
The band name Slightly Stoopid doesn't initially give off the sense of soothing melodies, full-brained lyricism and heartfelt tracks from beginning to end, but that is exactly what Top of the World portrays to the listener. Slightly Stoopid's seventh studio album is the band's most complete and all encompassing sound ever tracked, and they recorded it organically in their own studio on their own time.
If you are looking for a 21-track album that will keep the sense of feel good summer vibes alive long into the fall and winter seasons, then Top of the World is the ideal remedy to bring the sound of Ocean Beach, California right to your side. -- Reviewed By: Kris Siuta1. Top Of The World

Happy Trails (Pure Pleasure)Ranked 189/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Without question, this follow-up to Quicksilver Messenger Service's self-titled debut release is the most accurate in portraying the band on vinyl in the same light as the group's critically and enthusiastically acclaimed live performances. The album is essentially centered around the extended reworkings of Bo Diddley's Who Do You Love? and Mona, as well as the lesser lauded - yet no less intense - contribution of Gary Duncan's (guitar/vocals) Calvary. This album is the last to feature the original quartet incarnation of QMS. The collective efforts of John Cipollina (guitar/vocals), Greg Elmore (percussion), David Freiberg (bass/vocals), and the aforementioned Duncan retain the uncanny ability to perform with a psychedelic looseness of spirit, without becoming boring or in the least bit pretentious. The side-long epic Who Do You Love? suite is split into an ensemble introduction and coda as well as four distinct sections for the respective bandmembers.
- John Cipollina (guitar)
- Gary Duncan (guitar, vocals)
- David Freiberg (bass, vocals)
- Greg Elmore (drums, percussion)
About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
