WARB-NON-7789xLianne La Havas
BloodWhen touring for her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough? came to a close, Lianne La Havas headed to Jamaica with her mother for a long-awaited holiday that evolved into an experience of self-discovery. She enjoyed emotional reunions with long-lost relatives; embraced Kingston's clubs; and even jammed in front of her family for the first time during a session with legendary dancehall/reggae producer Stephen McGregor. Exploring her roots inspired La Havas's writing. Lyrically, she says, the songs she wrote are almost all related to the feeling of who you are and where you come from. And musically, La Havas took inspiration from Jamaica's love of grooves, rhythms, and syncopation.1. Unstoppable

Blood For BloodHellyeah's fourth studio album, Blood for Blood, will be released via Eleven Seven Music.
The album was helmed by producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, In This Moment) at his the Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the cover artwork for Blood for Blood, Hellyeah vocalist Chad Gray collaborated with renowned tattoo artist Paul Booth, who has been tattooing for over twenty years, and in that time he has worked on many celebrities and rock bands, including Slayer, Slipknot, Sepultura, Soulfly and Lamb of God.
The last project that Chad and I worked on together was the Mudvayne blacklight design, says Paul. I had such a great time working on that art, when Chad called on me to design Hellyeah's 'Blood for Blood,' I jumped right into it as I knew it, too, would likely be a fun one. Chad always gives me the freedom to explore and interpret his ideas. It always makes for great collaboration. I look forward to seeing it all in print!
It's a defining record for Hellyeah and for anyone on the fence, the band founding drummer Vinnie Paul declared, describing the record as focused and with a clear direction.

Blood In, Blood OutWith a career spanning 34 years, EXODUS has not only helped shape and define the thrash metal genre for over three decades, but they continually stretch and raise the genre's boundaries. One of the forefathers of the Bay Area scene, the band's 1985 debut album, Bonded By Blood, has since become a legendary album featuring mandatory live staples such as "Strike Of The Beast", "A Lesson In Violence", and the album's title track.
Formed in 1980, the band's original members included Tom Hunting on drums, Kirk Hammett (Metallica) & Tim Agnello on guitars and Carlton Melson on bass. With a line-up that has evolved throughout the years, the current incarnation of EXODUS charges into the future with returning frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza on vocals, Gary Holt and Lee Altus on guitars, Tom Hunting on drums, and Jack Gibson on bass.
In 2014, EXODUS closed the first half of the year with stellar performances at Kirk Hammett's Fear FestEvil and Rock On The Range, as well as a groundbreaking tour with fellow thrash legends Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies. To date, EXODUS has released nine studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation. Their most recent release, Exhibit B: The Human Condition, debuted within the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart in 2010.
Produced by Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Megadeth, etc), the new Exodus record, "Blood In, Blood Out", will be released in 2014.1. Black 13 (feat. Dan the Automator)

Royal BloodFeaturing their two singles to date - 'Little Monster' and 'Come On Over' - the album is a mixture of anguished vocals, ferocious drumming and bass that provides intricate detail as well as a rumble of rhythm. Royal Blood are the result of a lineage that stretches from present day heroes Queens of the Stone Age to Led Zeppelin, and all the way back to early blues pioneers. Their ferocious attack is the result of just two men - vocalist/bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher.
The album's striking cover art was provided by Dan Hillier, an artist who is acclaimed for his black line work, combining Victorian sensibilities with a fascination for animal and landscape attributes with leanings towards the esoteric.1. Little Monster

Blood PressuresThe Kills, Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart, are back with the new studio album, Blood Pressures, the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed third album, Midnight Boom.
For the sessions that became Blood Pressures, Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart returned to Key Club Studios in Michigan where they reunited with Midnight Boom engineers Bill Skibbe and Jessica Ruffins. Produced by Jamie Hince, the album was mixed in London by Tom Elmhirst.
With their basic sound intact; searing guitars, driving rhythms and sexually charged lyrical savvy, the 11 tracks on Blood Pressures find The Kills embracing a fuller sound and becoming more adventurous in the studio, while the lyrics are honest, heartfelt and sometimes just plain heartbreaking. Departing from the sparse, angular sound of Midnight Boom, the duo explore complex textures on Blood Pressures with heavier instrumentation and layered, huge-sounding harmonies. Grand BloodGrand Blood from Doomriders is the follow up to their highly regarded 2010 album Darkness Comes Alive. Grand Blood was engineered by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios, and features artwork from Thomas Hooper as well as packaging from Ryan Patterson (Coliseum) and J. Bannon.
Where Darkness Comes Alive was smooth and heavy in tone Grand Blood is jagged and hard in its heart. Grand Blood is Doomriders pushing themselves into wilder sonic territory previously unexplored by the band. In songs like Back Taxes and Bad Vibes, an angular noise rock influence takes the lead, creating a harsh and charged environment. Not to fret, the hooks Doomriders are known for are as sharp as ever though, sinking into songs like the personal Dead Friends and melodious and emotional Gone to Hell. Two songs that impressively showcase Nate Newton's evolving vocal ability. While monsters Father Midnight, New Pyramids, and Death In Heat are Doomriders at their heaviest and discordant to date. Odd BloodSince the release of their critically acclaimed 2007 debut All Hour Cymbals, Yeasayer has been around the world and back again. While their first record was conceived in total artistic isolation, constant touring forced Yeasayer to finally engage with their contemporaries. Inspired by musicians hell-bent on sonic experimentation as well as those more comfortable in a pop context, Yeasayer find their domain spanning across the musical spectrum. Studied, road worn, and eager to begin phase two, Yeasayer retreated to upstate New York to begin work on their new album titled ODD BLOOD.
If All Hour Cymbals was Yeasayer's attempt at global and ambient cultural mash-up then ODD BLOOD takes place in an off-world colony sometime after the Singularity. Glimmering reverb haze is eschewed and replaced by a cavalcade of disorienting pitch effects and flickering ectoplasmic wisps. Instead of layered vocal harmonies the processed vocals congeal into blots and blobs of otherworldly chatter. Many organic elements are left behind and replaced by sounds and rhythms that inspire the body as much as the mind. At times Yeasayer sound as if they would be at home playing live in scene from Blade Runner or inside one of Oscar Neimeyer's concrete modernist temples from the 1960s.
ODD BLOOD is an album divided into two halves; the first being top heavy with pop songs, while the latter full of the playful and strange.
Side One. The album begins with The Children, a twisted chopped and screwed stomp, full of sub bass and spooky keyboards. Distorted vocals create hidden hooks and it's immediately clear: this isn't the same Yeasayer. After the rubble clears the album leaps into Yeasayer's version of the pop anthem with Ambling Alp, Madder Red, I Remember, and O.N.E. Yeasayer have plunged into the craft of pop music, and the exercise has paid off.
Side Two. The second half of ODD BLOOD is slightly more experimental in nature. Sci-fi musical jams (Mondegreen), maniacal rants (Grizelda), and paranoia (Love Me Girl) show the band exploring more paranoid motifs, yet never deprive the listener of hooks and ear candy.
ODD BLOOD plays out at a blistering pace, yet it never sacrifices depth or content. It is immediately evident the band has advanced in songwriting as well as sonic craft. Lyrically, it is a more mature and honest album than the first, as the band demonstrates a confidence to explore more personal themes alongside vividly depicted tales. One thing is certain: Yeasayer are accomplished audiologists who are willing to pilfer decades of pop sensibilities and cultural history to create something that is uniquely their own.Side A

Blood BankBon Iver's four-song Blood Bank collection continues down the path forged by 2008's critically acclaimed For Emma, Forever Ago.
While still tied to the identity of the place where it was born, Bon Iver is no longer an unplanned entity synonymous with Justin Vernon. It is an idea, a place and sentiment that has now become as international as it is timeless. From the title tracks remembrance of the winter warmth we seek, to the summer love tribute of b-side gem Babys, Bon Ivers snow-blanketed harmonies live across the seasons. Still, there is a reverence for sabbatical, solitude and the winding down of time. As much as Emma is about the cold, the Blood Bank collection is about the warmth that gets you through it.
Bon Iver has grown to include more than what was available at the much-fabled Wisconsin cabin, such as piano, slide guitar and vocoder. As Justin layers on harmonies in the meditative R&B acapella The Woods, he declares Im building a still to slow down the time. It is as poetic as it is necessary. Both expansive and intimate, these four songs explore the darker and lighter natures of the seasons and what they signify, and offer a dynamic glimpse into the natural energy and refined craftsmanship that characterize Justin Vernons music.1. Blood SpeaksSmoke Fairies' second proper album, Blood Speaks, finally finds its domestic release here in the United States. Head, the venerated producer, returns for the new album, and their live band was also drafted in adding their intuitive version of the duo's evolving sound. Praised by everyone from Jack White to new wave pioneer Gary Numan, the Fairies have been gaining stateside attention for their early singles and EPs, and their debut Through Low Light And Trees in 2011.
The duo of Jessica Davies and Katherine Blamire have been on an epic journey, both physically and spiritually, touring Britain, Europe and America; in tour buses, ramshackle vans, and driving themselves 3000 miles across the US, all the while drawing increasingly devoted audiences with their exquisitely original and mesmerizing music. All these experiences bleed from every pore of Blood Speaks, undeniable proof of a tougher and more fearless Smoke Fairies.
"We've got more confident in what we're doing, and so we've pushed things more," says Katherine. "We've gotten bolder with the dynamics, and our influences have broadened."
"Blamire and Davies' dueling guitars, once nimble and clean, now shrouded in a mist, muggy and ancient, like some unholy union of Fairport convention and colour Haze" - Pitchfork

Blood MoneyBlood Money is based on the socio/political play Woyzeck, originally written by a young German poet Georg Buchner as a spare, cinematic piece in 1837 and inspired by the true story of a German soldier who was driven mad by bizarre army medical experiments and infidelity, which led him to murder his lover. Waits, along with wife and collaborator Kathleen Brennan, wrote songs for an avant-garde production of Woyzeck directed by Robert Wilson, which premiered in November 2000 at the Betty Nansen Theater in Copenhagen and went on to win Denmark's version of the Tony for Best Musical. The album careens from the brutal to the tender with assaulting rhythms and romantic melodies. It's a grim musical deposition on the human condition, a dark mortality play where Tin Pan Alley meets the Weimer Republic.Blood Money is flesh and bone, earthbound, said Waits. The songs are rooted in reality: jealousy, rage, the human meat wheel...They are more carnal. I like a beautiful song that tells you terrible things. We all like bad news out of a pretty mouth. Bad BloodUS Version Includes Three Bonus Tracks
Bad Blood, the full-length debut from Bastilleis released by Virgin Records. Bastille is the top-selling debut act of 2013 in the U.K., where Bad Blood entered the albums chart at No. 1 earlier this year and has remained in the Top 20 ever since.
The U.S. version of the album will include three bonus tracks - "The Silence," "Weight of Living, PT. I" and "Laughter Lines."
Bastille will made its U.S. television debut on "Conan" July 24. The U.K. band played a sold-out show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles and will return to the States in the fall of 2013 for its first North American tour.
Haunt, Bastille's four-song EP debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart after being released digitally. "Pompeii," the lead single, is already Top 20 at Modern Rock, and has been added by numerous stations, including KROQ-Los Angeles, 98/7-Los Angeles, Live 105-San Francisco, Q877-Chicago, KTCL-Denver, WRFF-Philadelphia, KTBZ-Houston, DC101-Washington DC and SiriusXM's Alt Nation. The "Pompeii" video has more than 30 million views.
Dan Smith, the founder of Bastille, envisioned the "Pompeii" clip as the novel I Am Legend if it were shot by the director of Drive, which hints at how inextricably intertwined music, film and literature are in his creative process. Rounding out Bastille's lineup are Will Farquarson, Kyle Simmons and Chris "Woody" Wood. The four musicians have been playing and touring together for more than two years and while each has his main role in Bastille, they effortlessly trade places on vocals, keyboards and percussion. The band's spring 2013 U.K. headline tour sold out immediately, with all 44,000 tickets gone in a day, and they are playing major festivals in the U.K, Europe and Japan this summer. Bastille's performance of "Pompeii" at Glastonbury can be seen here.
While Bad Blood sounds lush, it was actually recorded in a tiny room on limited equipment - apart from a day spent recording strings in the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Smith, working with producer Mark Crew, aimed to approach each song differently.
"I wanted each to be its own story with its own atmosphere which brings in different sounds and elements of production, incorporating aspects of the different genres and styles that I love: hip hop, indie, pop and folk," he explains. "Film soundtracks can be broad and varied, but tied together by the film itself. I hope the album will be something like that, but held together by my voice and the songwriting, each song a scene or part of a bigger picture."
"Pompeii" is an epic in miniature, a conversation between two charred bodies, frozen in time, caught in the ash that engulfed the Roman city of sin while songs like the title track and "Things We Lost in Fire" touch on the changing dynamics of relationships. "'Bad Blood' is an album crafted in one of modern pop's greatest refineries," observed Artrocker, awarding it five stars, while BBC Music said, "Bastille really deliver." Q named "Overjoyed" as "Track of the Day," noting, "[Bastille's] bewitching mixture of softly delivered vocals and glitchy tracks creates an impressive atmosphere."1. Pompeii

Blood VisionsIn the late '90s, 15-year-old Jay Lindsey, living right outside Memphis, played all of the instruments on a demo tape by his newly-minted performing moniker of The Reatards. This cassette was sent to Eric Friedl of the Oblivians, who had used the Goner Records imprint on a couple of releases. His next would be a 7 by The Reatards, followed shortly by a full length LP, Teenage Hate (Goner, 1998).
After quickly building a reputation for an anything-goes live set, and releasing another excellent full length Grown Up, Fucked Up (Empty, 1999), Jay Reatard shoved what was previously a side project to the forefront and started raising eyebrows with something other than live mayhem: songwriting and an ear for breaking ground.
Jays first title under the solo Jay Reatard moniker, Blood Visions was released in early 2006 on In The Red, and it politely sat on the shelves for over six months until the live act brought up the rear and things started to happen. Jolie Holland's new Anti-album Pint of Blood finds Jolie returning to the simple, pared-down approach that made early albums like Escondida fan favorites. With her band The Grand Chandeliers, Jolie works through ten songs with a loose, live-in-the-studio feel that recalls the vibe of classic '70s album's from Neil Young to the Grateful Dead. Featuring her simplest, most elegant songs in a long while, Pint of Blood is a classic setting for the vocals the Village Voice called sultry and sweet, despairing and lonely.
An artist who transcends genres and demographics, her audience spans from 20-something fans of Devandra Barnhardt and Sufjan Stevens to NPR listeners embracing a spiritual descendant of classic American music, Jolie Holland will once again surprise and delight her fans with Pint of Blood. Like Drawing BloodLike Drawing Blood is the second album by Gotye. All the sounds on the album were collected and assembled or performed by Wally De Backer in bedrooms around Melbourne between 2003 and 2005, and the record was mixed and mastered by Franc Tetaz (Wolf Creek soundtrack, Machine Translations, Architecture in Helsinki). It was featured heavily by Triple J in May 2006 and nominated for a J Award, which, although it didn't win, lent the album considerable publicity.
Two songs from Like Drawing Blood rated in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2006: Hearts a Mess at #8, and Learnalilgivinanlovin at #94. Like Drawing Blood also received the number 1 spot on the 2006 Triple J Album Poll for best album of the year, as voted by Triple J listeners.
The album was also released in Belgium, in 2008, with two alterations: it contains a new version of Learnalilgivinanlovin, and the song A Distinctive Sound is replaced by a new version of The Only Thing I Know (the original appeared on Gotye's debut album Boardface).
Three singles were released in Belgium: Learnalilgivinanlovin, Hearts a Mess, and Coming Back.

Blood On IceBathory's famed lost album, Blood on Ice, was originally recorded in the late '80s, smack-dab in the middle of the Swedish group's revolutionary transition from its barbaric black metal beginnings to the ambitiously orchestrated Viking metal of its golden era. At the time, the work was deemed far too big a departure by band mastermind Quorthon, who, among other things, shockingly substituted his raspy croak for actual singing throughout -- but, as with any abandoned project, retrospective evidence also suggests that Quorthon was also less than secure about whether his songwriting and musicianship were yet developed enough to fulfill his vision. Shrouded in mystery for the ensuing half-decade, Blood on Ice was finally resurrected and completed (replete with story-advancing sound effects) to Bathory's satisfaction in 1996, at which time it was released to widely deserved critical and fan acclaim, despite a few but distinct shortcomings that placed its overall achievement slightly below that of acknowledged triumphs like Blood Fire Death and Hammerheart. Sliding into gear rather slowly with tentative offerings like the title track, One Eyed Old Man, and The Sword (which sounds way too similar to Manowar's Blood of My Enemies), the album eventually reaches cruising speed with outstanding moments like The Stallion, The Woodwoman, and the colossal Gods of Thunder of Wind and of Rain, whereupon Quorthon's vocals (sometimes given to off-pitch variations) sound better than ever before. The gentle acoustic bridge The Ravens sets up the epic, nine-minute masterstroke of The Revenge of the Blood on Ice, which may single-handedly convince even the most cynical of listeners that this long-forgotten work deservingly belongs within Bathory's hallowed canon. Also worth mentioning, the album's lengthy (meaning biblically sized) explanatory liner notes read like a veritable Rosetta Stone for longtime Bathory supporters, shedding unprecedented historical light and perspective upon the group's mysterious history.

Mastered from the Original Analog Source by George Ingram with Input from Third Man Records
The White Stripes, songwriter Jack White (vocals/guitar/piano/bass) and Meg White (drums/vocals) formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit independent music underground, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene.
Their use of analog and low-fidelity equipment in the recording process partnered with a DIY approach created a raw simplicity of composition, arrangement and performance that sets them apart from their contemporaries.
