    War Psalms

Morning Glory have completed work on their new album War Psalms, packed with 13 memorable songs. Read what Ezra Kire, singer of Morning Glory, had to say:

We took the summer off to record this record. We were driving Jesse (Cannon) nuts by camping out in his studio. I was up to writing at all hours of the night, taking brief naps under the piano. In the end we had 27 tracks from which to assemble this album. People who like earlier M-glory are definitely gonna like it. It's faster, heavier, & more raw & stripped down than Poets, but retains that anthemic morning glory message. Brian Viglione (dresden dolls, and now violent femmes) added massive strength to the entire record with his powerhouse drumming style. Music is a forward moving journey & I can't wait for it to be released. Everyone who's heard it agrees that this record rocks.

    The Glory Road

Her voice was all Saturday night, delivered on a Sunday
morning. Patsy on Jesus. Elvis without the pelvis. Fern
Jones' only album, released by Dot Records in 1959,
captured 36-year-old Sister Fern as she anointed
church music with the same untamed energy that
younger white Southerners were bringing to their rock
'n' roll. Produced by Mac Wiseman and showcasing crack
Nashville session players Hank "Sugarfoot" Garland,
Floyd Cramer, Joe Zinkan, and Buddy Harman fresh
off their June 1958 session with The Pelvis, Singing A
Happy Song should've taken Jones from dusty canvas
big tops to the Opry's storied stage. But with no 45 to
flog, Jones instead sold nary a record and never did hear
herself on the radio. Her fiery rockabilly gospel was a
few shades too radical for the conservative, traditional,
near puritanical public she played to anyway. Fern
Jones: The Glory Road collects her Singing A Happy
Song LP and cuts including "Didn't It Rain," from her
The Joneses Sing album, into one rousing package,
rich with the details and imagery of a brief career
spent tethered to the hard ground and gazing skyward.
The Glory Road'ssound gnaws at the bit and stands in
reverence, a runaway rockabilly tent show without a
single drop of rain on the horizon.

    Poets Were My Heroes

Morning Glory is made up of the stuff that the gritty, punk-crust motherland of New York's infamous Lower East Side has been known to spawn. This group of punkers and squatters had very humble beginnings indeed. Already in various other New York punk bands, Morning Glory first became the spark of an idea when Ezra Kire (Leftöver Crack, Choking Victim, INDK) took time off from touring and started to write some tunes in his NYC apartment.

In 2001, with nothing but a drum machine and an 8-track reel-to-reel, Ezra wrote and recorded the songs that would become Morning Glory's first LP, This Is No Time ta Sleep. Though it was self-recorded, home-released and had no touring support, it still managed to create a small but ubiquitous underground buzz. With a virtuosic range of musical elements such as ska, punk, metal, and even some rhyming, its catchy, anthemic sing-alongs showcased Ezra's flourishing writing talents. And while his lyrics stayed true to the caustic political edge of his other bands, the overall message remained more optimistic and leaned towards the humanistic, personal side of life.

In 2002, Ezra finally assembled a live band, handpicking musicians from the local NYC punk scene, including members of Nausea, World/Inferno Friendship Society and Stockyard Stoics. This lineup recorded the EP, The Whole World is Watching, released on Blacknoise Records in 2003. While the years that followed were spent recording and touring with Leftöver Crack, Morning Glory took a back seat.

But after these long years of touring, Ezra finally decided to give Morning Glory the attention it deserved in 2010 and began writing songs for what was to become the epic new album, Poets Were My Heroes. In the summer of 2011, Ezra and the band (with longtime members Early Gates, "Metal" Chris and Lucky Strano alongside new guitarist Adam Schrager) hit the studio with a barrage of new material. Picture the sonic kaleidoscope of punk noise meeting strings, horns, choirs, pianos and organs over a web of distorted guitars and marching, single kick pedal drums.

These are the sounds that make up Poets Were My Heroes, Morning Glory's Fat Wreck Chords debut and first full-length album recorded with a live band. Re-enlisting producer Jesse Cannon (The Menzingers, Saves the Day), a wealth of material was recorded, with only the very strongest songs being chosen to make up the album. It is both grand and elaborate, with each song evoking a different mood and style, challenging the musicianship of even the most dexterous players, while still maintaining its punk-inspired simplicity.

While the band itself has described themselves as "somewhere between Oasis and The Clash," they continue to break rules and write music that is true only to themselves, adhering to no genres, creeds or political factions. The sing-along choruses give the band a broader appeal than the standard politi-kill punk acts, but the key message is more subversive: "Think for yourself, decide for yourself, make up your own mind and love your friends. Only you know what is right for you. Together we are what we can't be alone." It's this unity in diversity that makes the band special and not just another punk outfit. Double vinyl includes digital download of full album.

Musically, there are bits of The Stone Roses, What's The Story Morning Glory, and Nevermind. As catchy as those reference points are, it's the songwriting that has won the band a fiercely dedicated following; a mix of the observational storytelling of Davies and Weller crossed with the harsher documentary eye of Mike Skinner of The Streets and Ghost Town era Specials. Two #1 UK singles. Press already lined up with Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, and Interview, to name a few. Three more US/Canadian tours planned for this year, including headlining Domino's label showcase at SXSW.

Child Is The Father To The Man

Ranked 264/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Although they would go on to become one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s, most observers agree that Blood, Sweat & Tears 1968 debut effort Child Is Father to the Man remains the ambitious ensembles finest and most enduring musical statement. The bands only album under the leadership of legendary singer / keyboardist Al Kooper, Child Is Father to the Man stands with such late-60s art-pop landmarks as the Zombies Odessey and Oracle and Loves Forever Changes in capturing the periods seemingly limitless creative possibilities.
Child Is Father to the Man is a brilliant reflection of the desire of Koopera former member of the seminal Blues Project and a key collaborator in Bob Dylans early electric workto use an expanded instrumental lineup to explore a broader range of sounds, styles and compositional approaches. Towards that end, he launched Blood, Sweat & Tears, recruiting a stellar assortment of players from the worlds of rock and jazz, including ex-Blues Project guitarist Steve Katz, former Buffalo Springfield/Mothers of Invention bassist Jim Fielder, jazz drummer Bobby Colomby and noted jazz horn players Randy Brecker, Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius and Jerry Weiss.

The resulting album (produced by fabled studio genius John Simon) was a seamlessly eclectic psychedelic-rock-jazz-classical fusion, with such diverse tracks as Koopers gritty compositions I Cant Quit Her and I Love You More Than Youll Ever Know, as well as his playfully arty House in the Country and The Modern Adventures of Plato, Diogenes and Freud, along with stirring readings of Tim Buckleys Morning Glory, Harry Nilssons Without Her and Randy Newmans Just One Smile.

Koopers expansive musical vision may have been a bit too far ahead of its time. Although it was a favorite of early FM album-rock DJs, Child Is Father to the Man barely scraped the Billboard Top 50 and failed to produce a hit single. However, in the years since, the album has been widely recognized for its expressiveness and originality, and embraced by successive generations of listeners. For instance, it received a prominent placement in Rolling Stones 2003 ranking of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Now, Child Is Father to the Man is back in its original vinyl format with Sundazeds definitive new LP edition. With meticulously reproduced original cover art, this vintage musical landmark has been remastered from the original analog master tapes and is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl.

The Boss Of The Blues (Pure Pleasure)

Besides helping to invent rock 'n roll with his hit Shake, Rattle and Roll, Big Joe Turner was one of the most soulful blues shouters of all time. His best albums married the boogie-woogie piano stylings of the great Pete Johnson with a jazzy jumpin' horn section. Boss Of The Blues is arguably Joe's best recording, in part because he sang with particular gusto during these 1956 sessions. At the time, Boss Of The Blues marked a nostalgic return to the jump-blues style that Turner helped pioneer in the '40s. Besides Johnson, Boss featured some of Kansas City's finest ever jazzmen and various members of Count Basie's band, including Joe Newman (trumpet), Pete Brown (alto sax), Lawrence Brown (trombone), Frank Wess (tenor sax) and Freddie Green (guitar). The bawdy Cherry Red and the rollicking Roll 'Em Pete are my favorite Turner-Johnson collaborations. Both feature some incredible playing by the piano master. Turner's versions of I Want A Little Girl, Low Down Dog, You're Driving Me Crazy, and Morning Glories are definitive. If I had to compile a list of my 10 favorite albums, Boss Of The Blues would be there.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus

Spirit's 1970 classic Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus (produced by longtime Neil Young collaborator David Briggs) is widely acknowledged as the band's magnum opus. The fourth and final collaboration by the band's classic original lineup of Randy California, Jay Ferguson, Mark Andes, John Locke and Ed Cassidy, the 12-song set reflects the quintet's one-of-a-kind mix of talents and personalities. Spirit's unique musical vision is reflected in their trademark hit Nature's Way, which remains a staple of classic rock radio, along with such favorites as Prelude-Nothin' to Hide, Animal Zoo, Mr. Skin and Morning Will Come.

Out of print on vinyl for more than two decades, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus has been meticulously restored to its original two-sided glory for this LP reissue, using Sundazed's usual exacting standards. The album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, reproducing the album's distinctive original cover art.

    Young The Giant

Produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, The Shins, My Morning Jacket), mixed by Michael Brauer (Coldplay, My Morning Jacket) and recorded at Los Angeles' Sunset Sound Studios and Kingsize Studio, the 12-song self-titled album from the California five-piece Yount The Giant is an arresting collection of bright, melodic rock that ushers in the band as a fresh and vital presence.

From the jolting percussion and anthemic chorus of My Body to the driving guitars and lovesick fervor of Cough Syrup, Young The Giant is overflowing with addictive melodies and heartfelt lyrics at every turn. Islands marries off-kilter jazz rhythms with vocalist Sameer Gadhia's haunting falsetto to create an unnerving effect. The electric slide guitar that punctuates Street Walker shrouds the song's frenetic pulse and soaring vocals in mystery. The chiming guitars in Twelve Fingers exude pure joy, while the rhythmic swing of Strings, and the sun-stained pop of I Got capture Young The Giant in their SoCal glory.

    New Multitudes

New Multitudes is an intimate interpretation of American icon and musical legend Woody Guthries previously unrecorded lyrics from a dream team of Americana torchbearers: Jay Farrar (Son Volt), Will Johnson (Centro-matic), Anders Parker (Varnaline) and Jim James (My Morning Jacket). What makes this album such a rarity in todays music world is the allowance of the songs infectious simplicity to stand alone in all their glory. In doing so, Farrar, Johnson, Parker and James, pay the greatest compliment to Woody Guthrie and the collaborative spirit he so greatly embodied. This is an album which seamlessly converges the sepia-toned essence of the time honored past with the risks needed to forge the future.

Under the invitation of Nora Guthrie, Woody's daughter, to tour the Guthrie archives, each of the four songwriters were offered the chance to plumb and mine the plethora of notebooks, scratch pads, napkins, etc. for anything that might inspire them to lend their voices and give the words new life.

These guys worked on an amazing group of lyrics says Nora. Much of it was culled from Woody's times in L.A. Lyric wise, it's a part of the story that is still mostly unknown. From Woody's experiences on L.A.'s skid row to his later years in Topanga Canyon, they are uniquely intimate, and relate two distinctly emotional periods in his life.

Musically, it is the sense of collaboration that makes New Multitudes not just another trite and traditional acoustic regurgitation of back porch blues. From the ragged jangle of its opening track, Hoping Machine, the loping lilt of Fly High, the floorboard stomp of No Fear, to the lush warmth and sudden sonic gut punch of My Revolutionary Mind, the cohorts deliver a lesson in discovering a song's sweet spot time and time again. It's the function and preparedness of each artist's dogged work ethic gleaned the old-fashion way; veracious songs, road weary odometers and sweat stained live shows, all attributes of the man they are honoring.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during The Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long term deal, forever etching "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. In 1970 after a plethora of chart topping albums and a bevy of number one singles, Elvis Presley continued to build his marquee value even further while starring in a staggering amount of feature motion pictures. More incredible fame followed as the That's The Way It Is movie starring Elvis Presley became another box office hit for the King. The 70's epic documentary captured Elvis's first concert tour in over a decade, as the brilliant soundtrack album recorded live in Las Vegas and in RCA Studios, Nashville, was also was a blockbuster as it rose to the upper rungs of the album charts, making this his 40th hit album in a row! Both the That's The Way It Is movie and soundtrack LP truly proved once again that his career was unlike any other in music history.

Filled with more winners than in a Las Vegas casino, That's The Way It Is takes off with several smashes in a row, including the classic I Just Can't Help Believin' which became a UK smash, plus the definitive hit single version of You Don't Have to Say You Love Me plus an LP live only version of the killer rocker Patch It Up featuring James Burton's trail blazing guitar work. More soundtrack treasures follow with the beautiful ballads I've Lost You and Mary in the Morning. The album also features his stellar rendition of You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' featuring the vocals of The Sweet Inspirations as well as the superlative Simon & Garfunkel interpretation of Bridge Over Troubled Water. The Bobby Darin Story - Greatest Hits

First Time 180 Gram Vinyl Of Bobby Darin's Greatest Hits

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso From The Rare Stereophonic Atlantic Records Tapes

Features The Rare Early Alternate White Cover Artwork From 1961

The legendary Bobby Darin was truly an entertainer of iconic stature. At a very young age he learned how to play a plethora of instruments. This rudimentary love of music followed him closely throughout his early career where he teamed up with future superstar Don Kirshner (The Monkees/Kansas) and began their publishing and writing partnership in New York City at the Brill Building. In the late 50's he ultimately cut his first #1 hit single Splish Splash, soon following it up with other huge sides like the phenomenal Mack The Knife for Atlantic Records, kick-starting the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar, troubadour and entertainer career unlike the world has ever known.

In 1961 after many chart topping pop albums and a bevy of hit singles and awards, more fame followed as the brass at Atlantic Records honored their young superstar Bobby Darin with his first hits collection, the top ten charter The Bobby Darin Story . The album was a blockbuster at retail, making this a crossover hit with both pop and jazz audiences, proving once again that his career was of historic merit.

Filled with more hits than a jukebox, the amazing album cooks with smashes like Dream Lover, his early Decca Records hit Early In The Morning, the smooth sounds of Beyond The Sea, plus more hits like the rockin' Lazy River and Plain Jane which truly makes this Lp a treasure trove of Bobby Darin classics.

In total, the album showcases 12 important recordings which have truly gone on to become international classics for all time.
