    The Sticks (Awaiting Repress)

"Bit by bit, gonna get my bricks out in the sticks / Bit by bit, gonna build my house in the wildest thickets / Gonna get away from all those mouths and my shit / Gonna say good-bye to all the la-di-da-di-da-di-da-di-da," Mother Mother's singer and guitarist Ryan Guldemond sings on "Bit By Bit", the song he calls the benchmark piece and anthem of The Sticks. And so it goes on this Canadian five-piece's latest effort, an album about "longing to escape the clutches of the modern world."

The album is about as unpredictable musically as it is lyrically, with "Let's Fall in Love" eventually revealing dirty, "Supermassive Black Hole"-esque guitars, "Little Pistol" busting out strings and reserving into a fuzzy, evolving folk tune, and the drums on the title track revealing themselves as a dead-ringer for "When The Levee Breaks. Random though this journey into the Canadian countryside may be, it's a damn fun ride. A pit stop in the band's more folky past pops up on track five, the acoustic, vocal-driven "Dread In My Heart", whose "We Are Going To Be Friends"-simplicity and lyrics like, "There's a god awful shitty feeling of dread in my heart / And I can't seem to change my attitude, but I can change my heart," effortlessly resonate.

    Animal Mother

Visionary metal cult known as TODAY IS THE DAY prepares to assault the masses with their tenth full-length album, Animal Mother.

As always, the dejected and vengeful hymns TODAY IS THE DAY delivers with their latest opus are among the most scathing passages of audio one will experience, as Animal Mother unloads just short of a solid hour of pure anguish. The band's lineup features the rhythm section of bassist Sean Conkling (Regression, Burn Your Halo, Sprawl) and drummer Jeff Lohrber (Enabler, ex-Harlots), fronted by cult leader, founding guitarist/vocalist Steve Austin. Through fifteen diversified attacks, Animal Mother's wrath recalls elements of several seminal TITD albums, merging the dementia of Temple Of The Morning Star with the blazing delivery of In The Eyes Of God, yet several acoustic and more melodic angles elevate the LP's material to entirely different dimensions. Pain and hate are blatantly abundant in Austin's seething and venomous lyrical tirades and emotional outcries. The Animal Mother recordingsessions took place at the notorious architect's own Austin Enterprises in the deeply wooded Maine wilderness this brutal past Winter, the material fully produced and mastered by Austin. The cover art for Animal Mother was created by Samantha Muljat.

For two and-a-half decades, TODAY IS THE DAY has woven Steve Austin's prophetic observations and noise-soaked chaos through a psychedelic, unique and unmatched battery of heavy styles. The outfit has spawned an incredible discography, forging their way to the forefront of Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, Blackmarket Activities and many others. The band has toured with countless acts including Motörhead, Morbid Angel, Helmet, Neurosis, The Melvins, Napalm Death, Coalesce, Unsane and Eyehategod. Additionally, Steve Austin has produced nearly all of TITD's releases, as well as groundbreaking albums for Lamb Of God, Converge, Deadguy and many others.

    The Mother Of Virtues

New York City's progressive death metal newcomers PYRRHON (pronounced peer-on) emerge from the urban decay with a nightmarish offering of cerebral, extreme metal. The Mother of Virtues is a mind bending merger of clanging death metal, surreal psychedelia, dark jazz rhythms and delirious storytelling. Recorded with Ryan Jones (Today is the Day, Mutilation Rites) and mastered by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice), The Mother of Virtues takes the listener on a harrowing journey into the darkest corners of musical extremity.

    Our Mother The Mountain

Widely considered one of the greatest songwriters of his generation, Townes Van Zandt has been hailed by such artists as Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson among others. Fat Possum proudly reissues four titles from his early career: Townes Van Zandt, Our Mother the Mountain, Delta Momma Blues and Flyin' Shoes which comprise an essential introduction to his best songs. Recorded between 1969 and 1978, Van Zandt's most prolific and most critically acclaimed decade, these four titles are the heart of any serious consideration of Van Zandt's musical career. Featuring some of the most iconic cover art in album history designed by Milton Glaser, each is a classic in every sense of the word. These four titles are the first in a series of Townes Van Zandt reissues that Fat Posssum is undertaking in conjuction with the Van Zandt estate.

One of the best of Townes Van Zandt's early albums, Our Mother The Mountain's production offers an earnest elegance that wonderfully contrasts the songwriter's dark undertone. Highlights include his artful take on depression Kathleen and the tender love songs Be Here To Love Me and Second Lovers Song.

1989's Mother's Milk is the album that broke the Red Hot Chili Peppers into the rock mainstream. Despite suffering the loss of drummer Jack Irons and guitarist Hillel Slovak a year earlier, founding members Anthony Kiedis and Flea found exceptional replacements in Chad Smith and John Frusciante. A cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground and a tribute to Slovak, Knock Me Down, were both big MTV successes, as were such other highlights as Taste the Pain (featured prominently in the movie Say Anything), Good Time Boys, Subway to Venus, Magic Johnson and Sexy Mexican Maid.

And His Mother Called Him Bill (Speakers Corner)

When Billy Strayhorn died of cancer in 1967, Duke Ellington was devastated. His closest friend and arranger had left his life full of music and memories. As a tribute, Ellington and his orchestra almost immediately began recording a tribute to Strayhorn, using the late arranger's own compositions.

The album features well-known and previously unrecorded Strayhorn tunes that showcase his range, versatility, and, above all, the quality that Ellington admired him most for: his sensitivity to all of the timbral, tonal, and color possibilities an orchestra could bring to a piece of music.

Full of informality and soulful verve, these recordings feel like they are an afterthought, an unwillingness to completely let go, a eulogy whose final words are questions, elegantly stated and met with only the echo of their last vibrations ringing in an empty room, full of wondering, longing, and helplessness, but above all the point of the questions themselves: "Is this enough?" or "Can there ever be enough to pay an adequate tribute to this man?"
They are interesting questions, because only five years later we would all be saying the same thing about Ellington. For a man who issued well over 300 albums, this set is among his most profoundly felt and very finest recorded moments.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    This Mother's Daughter (Pure Pleasure)

This Mother's Daughter remains the most soulful record cut by Nancy Wilson during her Capitol tenure -- producer Eugene McDaniels proves an inspired if surprising choice to helm the session, and his subtle but ingenious jazz-funk flourishes are essential to the project's immediacy and appeal. McDaniels couches Wilson in settings as smooth and rich as velvet, crafting a series of mellow, gently propulsive grooves that flirt with contemporary soul but pay heed to the singer's roots in jazz. Wilson responds with a performance that's sophisticated yet saucy, commanding the spotlight with an intensity that's missing from her lesser Capitol efforts.

    Eureka (Awaiting Repress)

Eureka, the third studio album from Canadian avante pop quintet Mother Mother, is the band's most tenacious and undaunted record to date. Slated for a Last Gang Records worldwide release, Eureka offers up eccentric, hook laden pop-meets-rock songs housed in creative arrangements with clever lyrics and intricate harmonies.

Produced by Mother Mother's own Ryan Guldemond and mixed by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Franz Ferdinand, Elvis Costello), the 12 new tracks that comprise the album surpass their predecessors with a greater sense of cohesion, exuberance and overall sonic depth. The Stand, Eureka's incredibly addictive lead off single is a tale of a misanthrope who corrupts the minds of two young school girls. Guldemond, the group's chief songwriter and frontman describes the album as a vivid depiction of where the band's at right now, which is the height of our musicianship, songwriting and strength as collaborators.

I went to the nearby forest and the journey had begun.Without a direct way, I went through the woods and crossed mountains. Suddenly elated by light, I was under the raven's wings. Numb. Awakened by a thud and the silhouettes of the three. Embrace. The circle was complete.'' -- Mother of God

Born in 2008 and raised on rock in Morgårdshammar, Sweden, the four-piece Mother of God cast off a lot of the retro '70s mentality of their countrymen in favor of a more modern approach.Well, 20 years more modern, anyway. Mother of God no doubt have some appreciation for the finer things in '70s rock - there are beards to prove it - but musically they incorporate influences from grunge and the heavy grooves of the early '90s. Bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains mesh their downtrodden grunge melodies alongside classic inspiration drawn from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

These might sound like familiar elements - at least the names ring out - but Mother of God bring their own emotional spin to their Small Stone debut, Anthropos, and never quite cooperate with what you think they'll do next. The band has released two prior EPs - 2011's Forging a New Path and their debut - and they recorded and mixed Anthropos in BorlÄnge with Erik Nerback, Chris Goosman mastered, and Sanna Albenius, Robin Gnista and Alexander von Wieding provided art and layout design.

In addition to festival appearances at Getaway Rock, Wacken Open Air in Germany and Peace & Love, Mother of God have shared the stage with YOB, Dozer, Graveyard, Imperial State Electric and more, and they'll look to continue their live domination in Scandinavia and beyond in support of Anthropos, shoving their eclectic sound and undeniable hooks right in the faces of everyone who thinks they know what heavy rock should sound like.

    Pacific Dust

For the band's seventh full-length studio album, The Mother Hips have never been more primed to share their well-traveled tales, the long days and nights on the road, the gritty politics, the smart inward reflections and most of all the music, all delivered with a most appealing balance of Americana storytelling and their California-burnished rock. Pacific Dust's compositions about penning a song in your kitchen at 3:00 am (the thundering album opener White Falcon Fuzz), record company politics (garage-rock boogie Third Floor Story), and a father and son's relationship through music (on the ballad Young Charles Ives) indeed tell the story of many American rock bands. But here's why it matters: The Mother Hips have survived, and in fact thrived, throughout the journey and Pacific Dust, with its bittersweet melodies, poignant lyrics, and strong and gritty musicianship, is a perfect example of why.

Earlier albums such as Part-Timer Goes Full, Green Hills of Earth, and Red Tandy have become almost cult classics among indie music buffs, and the band's most recent 2007 release, Kiss the Crystal Flake, offered proof that the band still continues to attract new supporters. Over the years, the band has worked with and played alongside a slew of renowned/respected colleagues including super-producer Rick Rubin, Wilco, Johnny Cash, and many others. Today, armed with their newest release Pacific Dust, The Hips are poised to take their experience and talent to yet another level.

    The Burdens of Being Upright

Classically trained violinist Tracy Bonham emerged from Boston with her first major-label release, The Burdens of Being Upright. The album yielded a significant radio hit with "Mother Mother," which leads the album, raising the bar for the rest of the record. Bonham and bandmates tear through tracks like "Navy Bean" and "Bulldog" with energetic punk abandon. The album went gold within six months and later that year she was nominated for the Best Alternative Music Performance at the Grammy Awards and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance (for "Mother Mother").

    Negative Qualities

"Single Mothers might be that band, fusing Americana staples like Bruce Springsteen with wild and raucous punk rock..." - Brooklyn Vegan

"Ferocious and untamed, few bands give any more of themselves onstage." - Clash

"Thomson's almost entirely quotable..." - Pitchfork

"It's honest and it's worth coming back to over and over." - Fader

While accounts vary, Single Mothers was either founded amidst a nervous breakdown or as a means for payback. What is known, is that it was shakily hatched
by Drew Thomson in his hometown of London, Ontario in 2008. Having lined up
shows before he had a band or any music of his own, Thomson would quickly gain a
reputation as a gifted troubadour; known for his enunciated howl and literary lyrics
that married poetic penance with vignettes of small town ennui. But he was also an
incendiary character; firing his band outright in 2009, and at one point having two
different versions of the band existing at the same time.

Somehow the right core of characters fell into place, solidifying the band's feral take
on punk rock; gritty rock 'n' roll sensibilities counterbalanced with hooks, dynamics
    and musicality.

Released as the S/T EP by Secret Voice in 2012, the first pressing of the 7" would
sell out in weeks, then sell thousands of copies in the ensuing years.

Negative Qualities is an unrelenting ten song behemoth of a debut album that was
two years in the making; written across two provinces, initially started in Los Angeles
then finished in London, Toronto and Upstate New York. It represents a band pushed
to their most savage state, it's their pound of flesh slammed down on the counter as
raw statement. And now, they're looking to collect. But as Thomson rallies "I am who
I am" on Negative Qualities one can only wonder if this is a declaration of acceptance or a derision of him and his band? As such, the album will either be the first
of many or the band's final record. Ultimately, it is up to Single Mothers and their
    inherited behavior to decide.

    Hot Rats

By 1969, after releasing a 'mother lode' of Mothers of Invention classics, leader Frank Zappa was ready to breakthrough other musical barriers that were still holding popular music in a conservative headlock.

Being one if not the first album to be recorded using 16 tracks (twice the number being used at the time on both sides of the Atlantic), Hot Rats became a leading edge in both modern recording technology and the evolution of jazz/rock-fusion. Mostly instrumental, it features six original compositions; three loose jam pieces, the remainder being tight ensemble arrangements. Some of the finest players around come together in varying combinations, all-the-while showcasing Frank Zappa's guitar virtuosity.

Among others, Lowell George of Little Feat-fame lends guitar, jazz violinists extraordinaire Don 'Sugarcane' Harris and Jean-Luc Ponty plus fellow Mother Ian Underwood's keyboard and woodwind work, complete the leader's advanced vision. Last but not least, the legendary Captain Beefheart brings his unique pipes to the infamous Willie The Pimp.

Soon to become a concert staple and fan favorite thereafter, Peaches En Regalia is truly a modern jazz standard, eventually covered by the likes of Phish and The Dixie Dregs. Also included are Son of Mr. Green Genes, Little Umbrellas, The Gumbo Variations and It Must Be A Camel. Mastered and cut directly from the original analog master tape by Bernie Grundman under the supervision of Gail Zappa.
