    Pictures Of Saint Paul Street

The songs on "Pictures of Saint Paul Street" are lush & beautiful autopsies of society's underbelly, with stark and brutally honest ruminations on humanity. Songs like "A Sea of Suckers" & "Pursue The Nightlife" pull no punches, while "Jailbirds & Vagabonds" and "Blues For A Pecan Tree" carouse on a more abstract, human (almost romantic) level. By the time you've hit the album's centerpiece; "Bullshit Society", Ashley's songs move from ballads of hopeless misery to rallying anthems for the dispossessed. The people & artists who move further to the fringe as power and greed overtake our planet, a situation all too familiar to Ashley as he was forced to relocate his long-running Creamery Studio from it's long time home due to the rampant gentrification of the Bay Area (the former studio building now houses luxury lofts).

"Pictures of Saint Paul Street" isn't always an easy listen, but that's the point; the journey to salvation isn't easy or pretty. The protagonist in many of Ashley's songs may be Ashley himself - a true artist willing to admit he's nowhere near perfect, and honest enough to document his sunrises & sunsets no matter if they occur in his own backyard, or on a barroom floor.

RCA Living Stereo Classical LPs - The Gold Standard For Top Quality Orchestral Performance And Sound!

Remastered From The Original Master Tape - Now Available Cut At 45 RPM! By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Lacquers Plated By Gary Salstrom And Pressed On 200-Gram Vinyl At Quality Record Pressings!

Another sonic and musical blockbuster from the unbeatable combo of Reiner and RCA (and Mohr & Layton). Recorded in 1957 at Chicago's Orchestra Hall; the original analog session tapes were used in mastering for LPs and SACDS. Mussorgsky's inspiration for Pictures was the death of his dear friend, the architect and visual artist Victor Hartman. Having died at age 39, Hartman had not yet had the opportunity to realize any of his architectural visions, and Mussorgsky was angered that his friend would have no legacy. The Architects' Society arranged an exhibition of some of Hartman's sketches - some of architecture, others of characters or scenes from everyday life. The tribute was enough to give Mussorgsky ideas for his composition, but not enough to give Hartman any lasting place in history. Today, of all of the sketches that were captured in music, only six can be positively identified.

The piece is known today primarily through the orchestral version created by Maurice Ravel in 1922. In fact, the work had already been orchestrated multiple times, by a variety of lesser names. Some conductors today find that Ravel's version, in spite of its color, sacrifices some of the coarse nature inherent in Mussorgsky's piano original. Furthermore, Ravel worked from Rimsky-Korsakov's edited version of the piano part - the only one available at the time - which changed some notes and rhythms.

None of the orchestrations, however, change the fundamental spirit of the piece. Mussorgsky imagines himself making his way down the hallway that showcased his late friend's work, with his stately procession represented by the Promenade that opens the piece and returns several times. Upon stopping at each image, he reflects on what he sees. Between the early movements, the promenade returns regularly, as Mussorgsky is conscious of moving from one scene to the next. As the work progresses, however, he becomes less aware of the interval between pictures, and more immersed in the continuous psychological experience of moving from one state of mind to the next. By the end, the composer sees himself transformed by the connection with Hartman through his visual expressions of Russian pride and humanity.

    Take A Picture

Take a Picture blends Margo's infectious and highly intelligent songcraft with her absolutely unique voice - equal parts girl group innocence and seductive torch. One of the most endearing and delicious soft rock records from its era, here's an impeccable Sundazed vinyl reissue of this '68 masterpiece, direct from the original masters.

Margo Guryan is the most original songwriter that I've ever produced, and also something of an enigma. Underneath it all, she's a schooled composer, but she writes moving pop songs. She writes from her heart, but also from her head.

    - John Hill, album producer

When Margo heard God Only Knows for the first time, she dropped everything. Steeped in learnings of jazz and composition, Margo was shaping her musical self in 1966, and Pet Sounds was just what she wanted to hear. Inspired, and working in the glow of Brians masterpiece, Margo began work on Take A Picture. Its a beautiful lost gem. I love this album dearly. The first thing to notice is Margos voice, a unique upper register whisper. But when it starts off you say whoa, what is this? as Sunday Morning sounds like a garage funk band with studio musician talents. The albums production is wonderful in that it is so expert, but never showy. This is one of the most laid back albums Ive heard. Another sunday morning staple....Its jazz, slightly psych pop, with all the ornaments of the Pet Sounds orchestra. A brilliant record...

    Logan (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Lakeshore Records will release the LOGAN- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The album contains original music by Marco Beltrami (BEN-HUR, THE HURT LOCKER) who previously scored two films for director James Mangold, 3:10 TO YUMA, for which Beltrami earned an Academy Award® nomination, and THE WOLVERINE.

When I first watched LOGAN I was really impressed with its originality, Beltrami stated. Although it's a Marvel superhero movie, it is also many other movies as well, all tied up into a delicate balance of brazenness and subtlety. Jim is a master at moving fluently between genres and subverting them to present a new emotional landscape, and it was in trying to define this landscape in musical terms that I found my puzzle.

In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

LOGAN was an extremely demanding but very inspiring film score to work on. Jim distilled the innovation of an indie within the framework of a tentpole, Beltrami explained. He played me scores he liked and which inspired the tone of the film for him-Taxi Driver, Paper Moon (the film itself), The Gauntlet. He liked the directness and rough edges, the unpolished tone, the energy. Somehow I had to capture this while simultaneously creating a modern score. It did not need grandiose thematic music and verbose melodic statements. It was all about vibe.

The soundtrack to Tim Burton's neo classic moving picture Big Fish (2003), starring Ewan McGregor, Helena Bonham Carter, Marion Cotillard and Jessica Lange, collects classic Pop songs and a score of longtime collaborator Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mars Attacks! and others).

The soundtrack's Pop songs range from Bing Crosby's early-'30s Jazz hit Dinah to the '50s nostalgia of Buddy Holly's Everyday and Elvis Presley's All Shook Up, right up to the '60s and '70s recollections of Canned Heat's Let's Work Together and Ramblin' Man by the Allman Brothers Band.

    Test For Echo

    200 Gram Vinyl LP

Features Etched Designs on Side D of the Album

Test for Echo is the sixteenth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1996. It marks the final Rush work prior to the tragic events in Neil Peart's life that put the band on hiatus for several years. He recorded a majority of his drum tracks for the album using traditional grip, after receiving drum lessons from jazz instructor Freddie Gruber.

After flirting with alternative rock on Counterparts, Rush returns to classic progressive rock on Test for Echo. Cutting back many of the AOR production flourishes that hampered most of their late-'80s and early-'90s releases, the band concentrates on the sounds and styles that made albums like Moving Pictures huge successes in the late '70s and early '80s. Test for Echo is all instrumental gymnastics and convoluted song structures, all of which demonstrate each member's skills. And the key to the album is the individual performances.

The title track reached #1 on the mainstream rock chart. Driven became a bass showcase for Geddy Lee during live performances, while Resist was rearranged as an acoustic song on the Vapor Trails and R30 tours. Since then, the band has not performed any tracks from the album in concert.

    Timeless Wavelength

Double 140g Vinyl LP In A Gatefold Sleeve

Recorded Live At Kiel Auditorium, St Louis, Missouri, Usa, February 12, 1980

Mastered At Abbey Road Studios, London

Timeless Wavelength is a high quality vinyl-only 1980 double live set from one of the
biggest rock groups in history, recorded live at Kiel Auditorium, St Louis, Missouri, USA, February 12, 1980.

Rush are Canada's biggest rock export, with millions of sales of their nineteen studio albums recorded between 1974 and the present day.
Formed in Toronto at the end of the 1960s, it was their second album Fly By Night which saw drummer Neil Peart join forces with singer / bass player Geddy Lee and guitar gunslinger Alex Lifeson on the path to rockstardom. Which came in 1976 with their fourth album 2112, the sci fi concept piece that fills side one being performed on Timeless Wavelenth in its entirety.

Rush hit the charts with 1980 smash The Spirit Of Radio from the album Permanent Waves (that year's tour is when Timeless Wavelength was recorded).
The following year saw the biggest album of their career, Moving Pictures (including the hit Tom Sawyer).
Since then they have sustained their position as one of rock's biggest bands, with millions of tickets, records and t-shirts sold -- even the kids in South Park (led by superfan Cartman) are in a Rush tribute band.

    Hold Your Fire

    200 Gram Vinyl

Remastered At Abbey Road Studios Using The Direct To Metal Mastering Audiophile Copper Plating Process, All From Original Analogue Masters

Hold Your Fire is an album in the purest sense; infinitely greater than the sum of its parts, it gradually draws in the listener by slowly revealing its nuances and secrets. While the use of keyboards is still overwhelming at times, Geddy Lee employs lush textures which, when coupled with a greater rhythmic and melodic presence from guitarist Alex Lifeson, results in a far warmer sound than in recent efforts. Of course, drummer Neil Peart is as inventive and exciting as ever, while his lyrics focus on the various elements (earth, air, water, fire) for much of the album. Opener Force Ten is the band's most immediate number in years, and other early favorites such as Time Stand Still and Turn the Page soon give way to the darker mysteries of Prime Mover and Tai Shan. The multifaceted Lock and Key is quintessential Rush, and sets the stage for the album's climax with the sheer beauty of Mission. As was the case with 1976's 2112 and 1981's Moving Pictures, Rush always seem to produce some of their best work at the end of each four-album cycle, and Hold Your Fire is no exception.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays The Music Of Rush

Purple Pyramid Records, a division of Cleopatra Records, will release The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays The Music Of Rush on November 13. Nearly sixty musicians and thirty vocalists transform nine of Rush's greatest hits into even more intricate, soaring orchestral works.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra covers the best-known classics, from Working Man, the self-titled debut album track that launched Rush's career in the U.S. to Subdivisions from Signals, the album that proved electronic rock could reside in the top ten. The band's most successful record, Moving Pictures, is represented by rousing versions of Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta. Special guest guitarists include Steve Rothery of Marillion on Working Man and Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden on Red Barchetta. The Windrush Choir provides backing vocals and solos.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, formed in 1946 and based in London, has been called the nation's favorite orchestra. It has had internationally known maestros like Andre Previn and Louis Clark, and has toured the world. The RPO is a best-selling and adventurous recording entity as well. In 1969, it recorded a concerto for Deep Purple, composed by the band's organist Jon Lord. It earned a top ten U.S. single in 1982 with Hooked On Classics. Over the years, RPO has orchestrally arranged Pink Floyd, Oasis, Queen, R.E.M., Madonna and ABBA.

The orchestra was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, conducted by BAFTA Award-winning musician and composer Richard Harvey. Harvey performed with the prog rock group Gryphon and as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (specializing in mediaeval and Renaissance periods), worked with many folk and rock musicians such as Richard and Linda Thompson, Kate Bush and Sweet. He has toured and recorded with John Williams, and has performed and composed film/TV soundtracks for more than thirty years. The album was produced by James Graydon and Richard Cottle, who also arranged all the music.

    Vapor Trails

2013's celebration of Rush continues with the highly anticipated release of a remixed version of the band 2002's album VAPOR TRAILS. In 2009, two tracks from VAPOR TRAILS (One Little Victory and Earthshine) were remixed for the Retrospective III collection, setting fans into a frenzy in anticipation of a possible remixed version of the entire album being released one day. Four years later, that day is finally approaching.

Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances - sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again - and as a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct. David Bottrill's remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work, says Geddy Lee.

Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of 'One Little Victory,' 'Secret Touch,' and 'Ceiling Unlimited' to the melodic musicality of 'Sweet Miracle' and 'How It Is' these songs have been redeemed. Thank you David!

Recently, a career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature praised the band for its continuing artistic vitality, noting that It's true that Rush doesn't mean today what it did in '76 or even '96. It may mean more. Rush's enduring pop culture relevance is perhaps best evidenced by a pair of high profile appearances - a rare national television performance and interview on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report in 2008 (the band's first TV appearance since 1975), and a pivotal role in the story line of the 2009 hit comedy, I Love You, Man, starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segal, where the band also made a memorable cameo in the film.

Beginning with their self-titled debut album in 1974, their extraordinary body of work - which includes such formidable works as 1976's 2112, 1981's Moving Pictures, 1996's Test for Echo, 2002's Vapor Trails and the latest studio album Snakes & Arrows, made a triumphant debut on the Billboard 200 upon its initial release in 2007, entering the chart in the #3 spot. The album's success marked Rush's highest chart debut since 1993, as well as the group's eleventh top ten album in the U.S. Rush has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and garnered untold legions of devoted and admiring fans. According to the RIAA, Rush's sales statistics place Rush third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band.

    Clockwork Angels

Rush's Clockwork Angels is the renowned trio's first new collection of original material in over five years and their first studio release via Anthem/Roadrunner Records.

The recording of Clockwork Angels began in April 2010 with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz - who also collaborated with the band on their last studio album, 2007's Snakes & Arrows. Rush co-produced both records. The first two songs, "Caravan" and "BU2B," were completed during that first session at Nashville's Blackbird studios and performed nightly during the wildly successful Time Machine Tour, which ran from June 2010 to June 2011. Work on Clockwork Angels resumed in the fall of 2011 at Revolution Recording in Toronto after the tour's finale, with additional strings (arranged by David Campbell) recorded at Hollywood's Ocean Way Studios in early 2012.

Lyrically, Clockwork Angels chronicles a young man's quest across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy as he attempts to follow his dreams. The story features lost cities, pirates, anarchists, an exotic carnival, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life. The novelization of Clockwork Angels is being written by science fiction writer Kevin J. Anderson in collaboration with Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.

Rush - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart - is without question one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, equally famed for both its virtuoso musicianship and provocative songwriting.

    Purple Rain (Picture Disc)

Ranked 72/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

    Vinyl Picture Disc Edition

Prince designed Purple Rain as the project that would make him a superstar, and that's exactly what happened. Simultaneously more focused and ambitious than any of his previous records, Purple Rain finds Prince consolidating his funk and R&B roots while moving boldly into pop, rock, and funk on nine superbly crafted songs.

Although Prince's songwriting is at a peak, the presence of the Revolution helps pull the music into even sharper focus, giving it a tougher, more aggressive edge. When Doves Cry is an eerie, spare neo-psychedelic masterpiece, Let's Go Crazy is a furious blend of metallic guitars, Stonesy riffs, and a hard funk backbeat. And the anthemic title track is a majestic ballad filled with a brilliant guitar outro. All in all, Purple Rain is a stunning statement of purpose that remains one of the most exciting rock & roll albums ever created.

Reissue Of The Long Out Of Print Legendary No Mercy 1987 Release

Picture Disc LP Limited To 750 Copies

Line Up Features Mike Muir, Mike Clark, Ric Clayton, & Sal Troy

The band started in 1982 and featured lead vocalist Keven Guercio, guitarist Mike Clark, bassist Ken Blakley later replaced by Ric Rancid Clayton (the
artist who designed the Suicidal Tendencies logo as well as the shirts on S.T.'s first album) and drummer Sal Troy. Guercio recorded a few demos and
the tracks on the Welcome to Venice (1985) compilation before leaving and moving to Jackson Hole, WY and was replaced by Suicidal Tendencies
vocalist Mike Muir. Muir signed them to his independent label Suicidal Records.

In 1987 No Mercy released their first and only album Widespread Bloodshed Love Runs Red, and were about to record their second album with many
new songs already written but Clayton and Troy quit. Instead of recruiting new members, Muir decided to merge the two bands by having Clark join
    Suicidal Tendencies.

Clark took over much of the songwriting duties for Suicidal, shifting its style more to a melodic thrash metal sound similar to No Mercy's and what would
have been No Mercy's second album became Suicidal Tendencies' third album, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today.

Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor (Picture Disc)

    Picture Disc

Horror rock mogul ROB ZOMBIE returns with his fifth solo album, and in his words, "It merges the old days of WHITE ZOMBIE with the future of what I am doing now this is the perfect combo of both worlds." Much more than self-serving hyperbole, this is the Devil's truth! 'The Girl Who Loved The Monsters' harkens back to La Sexorcisto, whereas 'Behold, The Pretty Filthy Creatures' would be right at home on The Sinister Urge. Throughout the 12 songs, pretty much every aspect of Zombie's musical career is touched upon; Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor is almost like a Greatest Hits comprised of entirely new material. First single 'Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Super Town' is a fiery, barn-burner of a track highlighting "wasted youth - an angel of odd in her birthday suit." That being said, the award for worst song title of the year goes to 'Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga'. Musically, it's actually quite a good piece, but that title and chorus - what were you thinking Rob? Then there's 'Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole)', centered around a tedious, electronic syncopated drum beat. All signs lead to dull and dreary, but when this kicks in, it'll knock you on your ass! 'Theme For The Rat Vendor' is an unexpected 62-second instrumental immersed in middle-eastern sounds. Pulling a decapitated rabbit out of the hat, Zombie and cohorts John 5 on guitar, Piggy D on bass, and Ginger Fish on drums rock the shit out of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's 'We're An American Band'; talk about a job well done! And if there really is a fallen angel in hell, Zombie will play 'Lucifer Rising' every night on tour. Bound to be a fan-favourite, this makes you move and groove uncontrollably; it's damn near irresistible. 'Trade In Your Guns For A Coffin' ends this illicit affair with the perfect amount of sex, sleaze and violence. Forget the Pied Piper, it's time to embrace, cherish and worship those Venomous Rats!-- Aaron Small

    I Know What Love Isn't

Tracey Thorn wrote a song that reached Jens Lekman in the early stages of his new album, I Know What Love Isn't. In her song she sang Oh Jens, oh Jens/your songs seem to look through a different lens/you're still so young, love ends just as easy as it's begun. A touching moment for the Swedish songwriter, having been a fan since his teens. But it came to him in a time when he found himself very confused and in doubt. He was changing and, subsequently, so were his songs. They weren't looking through that lens anymore.

I Know What Love Isn't came out of a break up, something Jens didn't see as worth writing about at first. The songs began more fleeting than the last go around, on his 2007 album Night Falls Over Kortedala. The songs began building from images and memories and soon began to take their own route, one that Lekman wasn't privy to their destination.

In The World Moves On he paints a picture of a sweltering summer in the city of Melbourne where he lived while writing and recording the album. The hot days that led up to the Black Saturday bushfires, but also more mundane images of feeding possums in a park or getting in trouble with some guy on a scooter. It seems to lead nowhere at first but the aimlessness in itself reaches heartbreaking conclusions later on, summed up by the soaring chorus and you don't get over a broken heart, you just learn to carry it gracefully. Like Joan Didion once said that she writes entirely to find out what she's thinking, Jens wrote until he caught up with his thoughts. And of course they led him right back to the break up.

Musically, I Know What Love Isn't chooses an economic route. From the vast palette he created for Kortedala, he's only chosen a few somber colors this time around. There are strings but not a string section, an upright piano and not a grand, a single saxophone and gracenotes from a flute. The songs are lighter, almost aerodynamic, Jens explains, I wanted the songs to take off almost unnoticeably, where the chorus is separated from the verse only through a small detail like a tambourine or a harmony. Like when you're in an airplane taking off and you look out the window and realize you're already in the air.

A dry country piano makes Become Someone Else's lift high. Vocals from Melbourne singer Sophie Brous makes the chorus in Erica America soar. Strings pick up the title track and send it up to the sky without much effort or force. In the latter, Lekman once again points the way to distill essential truths from every day life vignettes while singing about a sham marriage. I thought of the Friday nights when I'd be cruising up and down the street with my best friend in her old crappy Holden, talking about getting married to get me into the country.

The idea was so appealing, that we would build this constructed relationship around a purpose rather than some vague feeling that could change at anytime. But in the end, the sham marriage is much too great a story to be kept secret. At least when you make a living from telling stories. And that's what I Know What Love Isn't is. A collection of songs that grew to a story that had to be told. A story that is not new, but essentially human. The story of the grey areas of love that you have to excavate and explore, using the method of exclusion, to find out what love is.

    Duck Stab

Musically, it's difficult to describe this diverse album. There is a silky, seductive, and murky aspect which creates a supporting liquid background upon which the lyrics float. There is a balance between the music and the lyrics. They never step on each other as they take turns moving in and out of the foreground. The lyrics play a very dominant role on this album. They are like rhyming instruments that project pictures before our eyes. A style emerges in the imagery and in the lyric rhythm. The Residents use words for the sake of their sounds, and for how they feel when leaving the tongue.

Americana stalwarts Blitzen Trapper's seventh studio album is appropriately titled VII. Their first release for Vagrant Records is full of the vivid folk-rock-campfire-tales front-man Eric Earley is so well known for.

VII moves effortlessly from track to track allowing Earley to paint the colorful pictures that play in our head while singing along. there are those songs I keep writing over and over again, Ever Loved Once with all its regrets and tragic lost love, Don't Be A Stranger it's hopeful cousin but they all still point to the same worn out place in the heart of old E. Earley. And hey, we all have that place, that worn spot on the heart like the chew canister circle on the back pocket of blue jeans, or that one shred in the green felt of the table where you ground the stick in too hard May these songs minster in ways mysterious and eternal, or at least maybe make you shake a hip.
