Music For The Masses'
Dumb FleshBlanck Mass is the solo project of Benjamin John Power. The Fuck Buttons
musician has been making music under the moniker since 2010. Described by
Fact magazine as "simultaneously soothing and sweepingly grandiose, esoteric
and surprisingly accessible", his self-titled debut album was an elegant, introspective
departure from the stadium electronica he had become known for. In 2012,
his track "Sundowner" soundtracked the London Olympics Opening Ceremony
and was performed by London's Symphony Orchestra to 900 million people
Power's newest solo offering, Dumb Flesh, was written, produced and recorded
by Power in a number of different locations over the space of a year. As a work
of art, Dumb Flesh is a comment on the flaws of the human form in its current
evolutionary state. The frailty of the human body naturally became a resonant
and inescapable part of the album's gestation.
The album went through myriad stages of completion before arriving at this definitive
version. Power elaborates: "There must have been at least three occasions
where I re-produced the whole thing, replacing instrumentation and experimenting
with new machines until I was happy with where the evolution of the project
The geographical spread of the sessions is reflected in the shifting landscapes of
the tracks and the ever-changing sound palette used to realize Dumb Flesh as an
expansive but coherent body of work. This release sees Power's solo work transition
seamlessly from euphoric ambient soundscapes to definitive techno anthems.1. Loam

Music For The MassesInitially the title must have sounded like an incredibly pretentious boast, except that Depeche Mode then went on to do a monstrous world tour, score even more hits in America and elsewhere than ever before, and pick up a large number of name checks from emerging house and techno artists on top of all that. As for the music the masses got this time around, the opening cut, Never Let Me Down Again, started things off wonderfully: a compressed guitar riff suddenly slamming into a huge-sounding percussion/keyboard/piano combination, anchored to a constantly repeated melodic hook, ever-building synth/orchestral parts at the song's end, and one of David Gahan's best vocals (though admittedly singing one of Martin Gore's more pedestrian lyrics). It feels huge throughout, like they taped Depeche recording at the world's largest arena show instead of in a studio. Other key singles Strangelove and the (literally) driving Behind the Wheel maintained the same blend of power and song skill, while some of the quieter numbers such as The Things You Said and I Want You Now showed musical and lyrical intimacy could easily co-exist with the big chart-busters. Add to that other winners like To Have and to Hold, with its Russian radio broadcast start and dramatic, downward spiral of music accompanied by Gahan's subtly powerful take on a desperate Gore love lyric, and the weird, wonderful choral closer, Pimpf, and Depeche's massive success becomes perfectly clear.

Slaves Mass (Pure Pleasure)
Not strictly a jazz album in the strict sense, Slaves Mass has strong compositional themes among its seven tracks. The maestro Hermeto Pascoal plays everything from flutes, soprano saxophone, guitar, Fender Rhodes, acoustic piano and clavinet on this set, and enlists help from Ron Carter, Airto, Flora Purim, Raul DeSouza, David Maro and others. Mixing Pot, is the opener and an anomaly in that it is a vanguard fusion tune where Pascoal really digs in and improvises. It also features the only appearance on this set of Alphonso Johnson on electric bass. In Missa Dos Escravos, the title track, Pascoal's emblematic pig gives his first growls in a song dominated by Brazilian Indian references. Wonderfully and intricately composed, it centers around folk tropes. Chorinho Para Ele is a beautiful and modern choro with a somewhat challenging glissando bridge that really proposed new directions for the traditional genre. Aquela Valsa is a beautiful six/eight theme that turns into a samba with a beautiful trombone solo by DeSouza. Cannon is an utterly improvisational piece that meanders and winds around Pascoal's flute solo. Atonalism dominates the piano solo in Escuta Meu Piano, which also presents bits and pieces of different styles (like baio) and folk songs. Hot samba improvisation is found in GelÉia de Cereja, that slips and slides through a variety of schema and dynamic changes without much internal focus, but it is a compelling bit of creative anarchy nonetheless in that it displays Pascoal's full range of restless musical and textural impulses -- as well as a beautiful soprano solo.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Mixing Pot

Mozart: Mass in C Minor (Speakers Corner) (Pre-Order)
It is not often that incomplete works enjoy great popularity. And it is even rarer that a torso should exercise such great importance in music history, but this is the case with Mozart's Great Mass, K. 427. The C minor Mass is always spoken of as if it were complete: it is spoken of with reverence, eyes looking towards Heaven, lost in the beauty of the music, transported to celestial heights. Mozart combines the compositional style of the Baroque masters with the more modern style of the Viennese Classic. Lofty arioso sections alternate with tremendous choral sections for up to eight parts whose splendid and spectacular timbre broke the bounds of tradition and set new standards for the genre.
This Mass is, of course, not merely performed but celebrated, as the Berlin RSO under its Principal Conductor Ferenc Fricsay has so admirably demonstrated in this recording. Precise entries, strict tempi, a polished orchestral timbre and vocal soloists so brilliant one might think they were standing in one's own front room lend this recording top marks for musical quality and repertoire value.

Woven MusicCategories cannot contain Shinji Masuko. Hes the founder of DMBQ, one of Japans greatest modern psychedelic bands, a respected music and comic reviewer, an astonishing guitarist and a master guitar builder. Hes also been a member of the Boredoms since 2004, having designed and built their notorious seven neck guitar (the Sevena) while acting as the bands principle guitarist.
The idea for Woven Music, Masukos first solo work, was born during preparations for a series of Boredoms concerts in 2009 when Shinji played Kid Millions (of Oneida and Brah Records) some backing tracks hed created for the Boredoms current concert piece, Boadrum. For a short section of the live performance an incredible mass of multi-tracked droning guitars is mixed into the pounding chaos of the 9 person, multi-drummer ensemble. Shiji played Kid Millions this unadorned recording while they were between rehearsals at Shinjis home in Osaka and Kid was astounded, convinced that this music needed to be heard on its own.
Masuko thus inspired, spent the next year carefully crafting these pieces into stand alone works. Woven Music for Blue Steppe is a mass of mostly acoustic instruments while Woven Music for Silver Ocean explores the sound of a throng of electric guitars.
In the last twenty-plus years Masuko has created an astounding body of work with DMBQ and the Boredoms, but hes never released music of such singular beauty and depth. These are meditative, swirling pieces which suggest the resonances of their titles: grand and eternal natural vistas. These are immersive works and completely singular in their scope, Brah is proud to present these unheard compositions to a broader audience.1. Woven Music for Blue Steppe

The Mountain Has Fallen EP'The Mountain Has Fallen EP features collaborations with Nas, Danny Brown, Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price and a brand new solo composition.
'The Mountain Has Fallen' starts with Systematic, DJ Shadow and Nas' first-ever collaboration together. The song debuted during the season premiere of HBO's Silicon Valley in April. Horror Show finds Shadow and Danny Brown collaborating for the first time over a jagged, haunting soundscape. Good News is a brand new composition, reminiscent of some of Shadow's more free-form, fractured work found on 2016's 'The Mountain Will Fall' full-length.
The EP closes with Corridors, a piece featuring Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price (who scored the 'Gravity' film). Shadow is a massive fan of his work, and Price wrote and programmed the string parts on the song.
From the start of my last album, I envisioned collaborating with other instrumentalists who operate outside of the bass and hip-hop realms, ultimately working with the amazing Nils Frahm and Matthew Halsall. Like many, I had always been enthralled by the soundtrack for the film 'Gravity,' and went about connecting with Steven purely as a fan. I was overjoyed when the opportunity to combine on a song came to pass. His ability to harness orchestral elements and join them with a sound design aesthetic made my contributions seem almost effortless, which is the mark of a fruitful partnership. - DJ Shadow, on Corridors
Turns out sometimes you should meet your heroes. Working with Josh to create 'Corridors,' hearing musical ideas and phrases come back to me twisted and skewed through the filter of his unique sensibilities, was an amazing experience. The mark of a good collaboration is when the track heads off in a direction you could never have imagined when working on your own, and no one puts a track together like DJ Shadow. It was an honour to work with him. - Steven Price, on Corridors1. Systematic (feat. Nas)

Gold Yellow Colored Vinyl
This gold vinyl re-issue of Run the Jewels's 2013 self-titled classic was named Pitchfork's "Best New Music" upon release. Tracks feature Banana Clipper, Job Well Done, and Twin Hype Back.
Metacritic gives this album universal acclaim, and critics agree: it's accessible with its duo taking on crooked politicians, fake rappers and religious hypocrites through aggressive flow and paranoid rhyme, and its fun, affable vibe is no sign of weakness.

Mozart Requiem (Speakers Corner)
Among all those sacred compositions that deal with the end of life, Mozart's Requiem penetrates one's heart and soul like no other apocalyptic work. One reason for this is surely the rather mysterious story surrounding its composition, a mixture of truth and legend, which arose during the arduous last months of the ailing Salzburg composer. Although the various developmental stages and the extent to which Mozart's pupils participated in the composition may never be fully clarified, the mystical power of the enigmatic fragments remains constant to this day.
Sir Colin Davis lends an immediate relentlessness to the sounds of despair that is already apparent in the tense, pulsating opening bars, and which is taken to the very limits of playability in the climactic Dies irae. While the swift tempi might appear rather surprising, they serve to dampen any sort of opera-like sentimentality of which many recordings are guilty. The consolatory timbre in the vocal parts make them come across as oases of calm in the prevailing atmosphere of biting cold, fearsome drama, and flickering hope, all of which breathes musical life into this mass for the dead.

People used to liken Sia to a fairy with broken wings.
If you've heard the delicate and jazzy vocals she provided for Zero 7, or the song 'Breathe Me' from her solo-album Color The Small One that was prominently featured in the Six Foot Under finale, you would immediately understand why.
But with We Are Born, Sia has made a pop-album of the highest standard. With songs like 'Clap Your Hands', it would appear that the masses are starting to notice her as well. On We Are Born Sia is upbeat without being too cotton-candy, her melodies floating along lyrics that are smart and to the point. Her rendition of Madonna's 'O Father' is poignant and might even be superior to the original.

Following the success of King Of Rock, Raising Hell (1986) raised more than just a massive revenue stream by selling over three million albums worldwide. It's a well known fact that the record, produced by Rock/ Hip Hop production pioneer Rick Rubin, raised the bar for Hip Hop albums in general. Musically it indeed raises hell, being crammed to the brim with hard-hitting hooks, loops, samples, scratches, inventive tong-twisting braggadocio and catchy choruses. Too many classics on this one: Peter Piper with the massive Bob James bell drum sample It's Tricky (putting The Knack's My Sharona sample to extremely good use) and the song that popularized a certain brand of shoes in the Hip Hop community, My Adidas.
However the album's flag bearer is undoubtedly Walk This Way which literally rendered Aerosmith's original version obsolete. Viewing from an eighties Hip Hop perspective, the collaboration with Aerosmith seemed rather unusual to say the least, but at the same time it proved that Hip Hop and Rock are merely next door neighbours. Lick It UpDue to the underachievement of their exceptional 1982 comeback album, Creatures of the Night, Kiss knew the time was right to drop the makeup, so in September 1983 the band shocked their fans by unmasking on MTV. Their first non-makeup album, Lick It Up, followed soon after and successfully re-established the band among the heavy metal masses worldwide. Kiss also reconnected with their stateside fans -- Lick It Up was the band's first record to achieve gold status since 1980's Kiss Unmasked. The album's success was spurred by MTV's repeated airing of the imaginative video for the album's strong title track, and songs such as Exciter, Not for the Innocent, A Million to One, and the rap-rocker All Hell's Breaking Loose confirmed that the band was back on the right track. Vinnie Vincent again proved to be a worthy replacement to original guitarist Ace Frehley but would unfortunately leave the band after the completion of the Lick It Up worldwide tour (eventually resurfacing with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion in the late '80s). The Desaturating SevenPressed On Clear Vinyl With Rainbow Splatter
Primus are excited to announce their ninth studio album The Desaturating Seven.
This is the first studio album of original material since 1995's Tales From The Punchbowl with the classic Primus line-up of Les Claypool (vocals, bass), Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim Alexander (drums). The Desaturating Seven is inspired by a 1970's children's book Claypool often read to his kids when they were growing up. The book tells a story of seven goblins one representing each color of the rainbow who simultaneously pull all of the color out of the world.
Many years ago when my children were little kidlets scurrying around the place wreaking havoc and whatnot till it was time for bed and book time, my wife turned them on to a book called 'The Rainbow Goblins' by Ul De Rico, Claypool explained. The dark imagery and beauty of the art struck me immediately and I thought, 'this would make good fodder for a piece of music.' The use of color and darkness both in the paintings and the writing was compelling and now, near two decades later, the metaphor of greed, gluttony and deceit vs unity of the masses is eerily relevant. I brought the notion to the Primus guys and they were all for it. Plus, I figured it's about time someone brought 'Goblin Rock' back to the fold.1. The Valley

Universal Music Enterprises Continues Its "Respect The Classics" Tribute To Many Of Hip-hop's Finest With The Vinyl Reissue Of Rap Icon Talib Kweli's
Historic Rawkus Records Catalog
After releasing a handful of essential 12s on various Rawkus Records projects in the late '90s, Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek were on the verge of becoming one of hip-hop's best-kept secrets. Yet their original incarnation as a duo expanded into a triumvirate with the inclusion of Mos Def and transformed their eventual manifestation into Black Star, thwarting their initial bid for acclaim. While Kweli's stardom may have been initially eclipsed by his more charismatic cohort, Mos Def, Reflection Eternal houses enough merit to establish Talib as one of this generation's most poetic MCs. Kweli is a rare MC, as his lyricism resounds with a knowledge that transcends his still tender age. He does not aspire to reprogram the masses with this album, just rehabilitate them, as he laments on The Blast: They ask me what I'm writing for/I'm writing to show you what we fighting for. In an effort to celebrate life, Kweli breaks down hip-hop's obsession with death on Good Mourning and Too Late. But it is his varied lyrical content that is most inspiring, effortlessly transitioning from the poignant circle-of-life epic For Women to the rugged Some Kind of Wonderful and Down for the Count, featuring Rah Digga and Xzibit. While the unassuming, largely minimalist grooves that Hi-Tek supplied on Black Star's debut longed for a dramatic flair, he displays a remarkable maturation on Reflection Eternal. In fact, Tek's loping keyboard wails, soulful staccato claps, and shimmering piano loops are often sublime in their arrangement and outcome. Though Kweli and Hi-Tek's debut harbors over-ambitious tendencies, clocking in at over 70 minutes in length, they are a duo that will undoubtedly stain their memory into hip-hop's collective memory with this noteworthy debut. Complete Control SessionsTaking their name from the phenomenon of analog television frequency disturbances, Lafayette, Indianas TV Ghost conjures an especially sludgy and punishing brand of art-punk. They began making a name for themselves in 2007, when their first 7, Atomic Rain, was released by Die Stasi Records. A 12 EP on Die Stasi, a single on Columbus Discount Records and their debut album, Cold Fish, followed in 2009.

The Music Hall mmf-11.1 turntable, our latest flagship, is a 2-speed belt-driven audiophile turntable, featuring the unique quadruple-plinth construction originated by Music Hall.
The distinctive design isolates the critical sound reproducing components, each on their own plinth. The tonearm is mounted to the upper plinth and the inverted ceramic main bearing is mounted to the second plinth allowing the partially sunken 1 1/2 acrylic platter to spin freely.
Moving the main bearing to the second plinth improved cartridge tracking and significantly lowered background noise. The adjustable magnetic-levitation isolation feet, microprocessor speed control, motors, flywheel, and wiring are all mounted to the bottom plinth. The motors, flywheel, and speed control are further isolated on their own vibration damped dual-plinth platform, which is separately isolated from the upper three main plinths.
Sorbothane hemispheres separate each of the three main plinths and provide additional vibration damping. The bottom plinth functions as a mass-loaded resonant sink for the entire turntable. Two motors and a flywheel are used to increase torque and speed stability. The mmf-11.1 comes in a high-gloss piano black lacquer finish and ships without cartridge. This Is The Album That Inspired Dylan, Cash, And Springsteen
Woodrow Guthrie was an American singer-songwriter who is regarded as one of the most significant figures in American folk music; his songs have inspired several generations both politically and musically.
Dust Bowl Ballads was the most successful album Woody Guthrie made. Not only did it gain him public acclaim, but these songs and performances possess extraordinary unity. That unity comes from Guthrie discovering within himself the voice of one man who arises out of a mass of people who have been dislocated from their homes and much of what is familiar. It comes from telling a tale that travels from the first great dust storm that covered the southwest in darkness and terror to the very gates of a Garden of Eden, a paradise for you and for me.
Songs like 'The Great Dust Storm and Dust Bowl Blues are exact descriptions of what happened when a massive drought occurred in the middle of the Great Depression, uprooting millions of humans from lives and livelihoods they had thought eternal.
Woody Guthrie became the voice of his people and in a way that remains intelligible many years later. He set a standard to which many of today's best songwriters still aspire. Like Dylan, Springsteen, and KRS-One, he gave his listeners stories and characters that help them better understand themselves. So these songs are not only historical; they are history itself, history being that which links present to future.1. The Great Dust Storm (Dust Storm Disaster)

Manual turntable with build in Pro-Ject Speed Box SE
Pro-Ject's Xtension 12 incorporates over 20 years of experience in turntable design and manufacture. The Xtension 12 represents their latest technological efforts to address mass-decoupling and resonance reduction. Beginning with the mass-loaded magnetically floated sub-chassis and the precision balanced sandwich alloy platter (recycled vinyl/alloy), the foundation of this system weighs in at a super-heavy 55lbs. Additionally, Pro-Ject employs magnetic decoupling feet to thwart airborne or mechanical vibration from disturbing playback. This mass and isolation creates an environment of extremely low resonance allowing music to emerge from an ultra-silent black background. An AC motor with a two-step pulley drive with Electronic Speed Control maintains perfect pitch and rhythm resulting in inaudible wow, flutter and noise. There's even a built-in spirit level to assist setting the height-adjustable magnetic footers.
Further reducing noise and vibration is the isolated Sorbothane mounting board for the 12 carbon-fiber tonearm. The conical arm and unified headshell are fabricated from a single piece of carbon fiber to avoid problems associated with standing wave reflections. Single screw fixing of the armtube allows for easy rotation for adjustment of needle azimuth. Additionally the arm is fully adjustable for VTA. A high-performance 123cm phono interconnect cable is included.
Optional SuperPack includes Sumiko Blackbird Cartridge at a significantly reduced price.$4,499.00Xtension 12 Evolution Turntable - 3 Colors Available - SuperPack Option Buy Now

Climbing! also referred to by fans as Mountain Climbing! was released in 1970, went gold immediately and began a very successful partnership albeit brief for this arena packing quartet. Consisting of guitar shredder/vocalist extraordinaire Leslie West, the late great Felix Pappalardi on bass, keys and vocals, the explosive Corky Laing on drums and the masterful Steve Knight on organ/piano, Mountain was the band of choice for many hard rock fans throughout the seventies.
Gaining mass momentum from their appearance at Woodstock in 1969, the band got in the studio and cut this masterwork with mega producer and Mountain bassist Felix Pappalardi (Cream, Hot Tuna, Jack Bruce), churning out soon to be smash hits that would be forever played on classic rock stations globally. Since Cream was no longer an entity, the great Felix Pappalardi's affiliation with this groundbreaking trio surely paid off with his studio skills, production techniques and knowledge of working with sounds and elements that surely changed the way a lot of us listen to albums these days.
Tracks like Jack Bruce and Pete Brown's Theme For An Imaginary Western and For Yasgur's Farm would show not only the studio wizardry of the great Felix Pappalardi but also his unique vocal prowess and artillery like bass playing, which today is emulated by many, and made this album the masterpiece it is.
More burners like Leslie West's delivery on Never In My Life and Sittin' On A Rainbow showcase the brilliance of the man, the guitar and the voice which is equally important whenever discussing the talents of this superstar blues rock master. Corky Laing and Steve Knight propel the band into realms not heard in years with their never tiring percussive drum and keyboard interplay. Just check out the hard work driving sounds of Silver Paper and Boys In The Band.
Even an acoustic side of Mountain enhances the masterwork with a pair of exceptional tunes To My Friend and The Laird, highlighting the acoustic and folk roots of both Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi.1. Mississippi Queen
