Nation Of Two
Vance Joy is set to release his eagerly awaited sophomore album, Nation of Two, via Atlantic Records.
Nation of Two - which includes the hit singles, "Lay It On Me" and "Saturday Sun" - has quickly earned widespread critical applause around the world. "The Australian singer-songwriter has gone deeper and broader," raved Newsday, "making singalongs that sound even bigger, ready for the stadiums he played as (Taylor) Swift's opener." Entertainment Weekly adds, "Joy focused on crafting piercing vignettes of young love and emotional restlessness --- and the results absolutely thrill." "It all adds up to an appealing album from an artist with a promising future," wrote Associated Press. "This is (Vance Joy's) time to really shine - and he seizes it."1. Call If You Need Me

While A Nation SleepsIt's been almost three years since post-hardcore act BoySetsFire first announced they got back together, and now the reinvigorated outfit are ready to unfurl their first reunion LP. Titled While a Nation Sleeps, it drops June 11 via Bridge 9.
A press release notes that the 13-song set, which follows 2006's The Misery Index: Notes from the Plague Years, was recorded earlier this year at Newark, DE's Signal 2 Noise Studio, and it apparently features the band's heaviest, most aggressive and scathing material to date - as well as some of their most melodic.
Our new record is maybe more punk, maybe faster than our other records but it's still a BoySetsFire record, guitarist Joshua Latshaw said in a statement. It's emotional post-hardcore with elements of metal, punk and melody. We can't wait for you to hear it!
The current lineup reunites Latshaw with founding vocalist Nathan Gray and fellow six-stringer Chad Istvan. Bass duties on the LP were shared between old member Robert Ehrenbrand and the band's good friend Chris Rakus, while drummer Dan Pelic is new to the fold.1. Until Nothing Remains

Hidden Hands Of A Sadist Nation (Awaiting Repress)Colored Vinyl
A bastard child born of the mid 90s punk/metal/hardcore movement, Darkest Hour combines the passion, energy, and soul of punk/hardcore with the style, speed, vengeance and fury of melodic speed/thrash/death metal. In a decade-without-a-name, Darkest Hour defined the entire new wave of American metal sound and gave the metal and hardcore/punk world a revitalization it surely needed. This new style blended the raw, hardcore punk of the 80s with the Scandinavian death metal of the 90s and forged a sound that would later become the template for modern metal.
2003's Hidden Hands Of A Sadist Nation, their third full-length overall, saw Darkest Hour working in Sweden with producer extraordinaire Fredrick Nordstrom. The politically charged 10-song set would make the band a household name as one of the hottest metal/punk bands in the underground. As a result, the band was asked to participate in 2004's Ozzfest alongside legendary bands like Slayer, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Slipknot and many other metal heavy weights. Their final studio album - remastered and expanded! Following up 1987's Lolita Nation (whose reissue appeared on numerous year-end "best of" lists for 2016) would be no easy task for Game Theory. But, Scott Miller and company were certainly up for the task.
Re-teaming with producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Marshall Crenshaw, Velvet Crush), 2 Steps From The Middle Ages was released in 1988 and showed the band had no shortage of energy, experimentation, and excellent material.
The first pressing of this LP reissue, on vinyl for the first time since its initial release, comes on translucent orange colored vinyl. Packaging includes rare and previously unseen photos from the band's photographer, Robert Toren, as well as essays from Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), and Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com).

In his solo debut as a recording artist, Michael Nesmith breaks ground with his First National Band on Magnetic South, waxing eleven country-rock classics. Taped at RCA's Hollywood Studios in February 1970 directly after his departure from The Monkees, the album thematically opens Nesmith's First National American trilogy of blue, red and white albums (with a trademark needle point sleeve designed by none other than Dean Torrence). Magnetic South is brimming with songs Nesmith stockpiled during The Monkees heyday and also includes the Top 40 hit single Joanne, with covers of One Rose and Beyond The Blue Horizon topping off this spirited and infectious long player. Cherry Tree (Awaiting Repress)The National's sophomore album, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers (2003), found the band emerging onto a larger stage. Uncut called it a genuine treasure and named it an album of the year; it was hailed by Rolling Stone and the inde media; and Magnet, La Liberation (Paris) and the Chicago Tribune all tapped it for their year-end lists.
In France, the band had become such a sensation that renowned DJ Bernard Lenoir invited them to perform on his Black Sessions, following U.S. buzz bands like The Rapture and Interpol. A track from that session, Murder Me Rachael occupies the warm-blooded heart of Cherry Tree, a 7-song collection that delves the depths and brought their tension-wire rock to new heights.
Clocking in at just under 30 minutes, Cherry Tree was an EP, a mini-LP, or a bridge to the future. It features five new songs and two bonus tracks, including one of those aforementioned live performances from France inter radio and a trans-oceanic duet between the National's singer Matt Berninger and Clogs' Padma Newsome.

The South Africa of the late 1970s was neither the right place nor time to launch a mixed-race punk band. Yet, following the student-inspired Soweto Uprising of 1976, it was also exactly the right conditions to foster a band like National Wake, one formed in an underground commune, and one whose very name exists in protest at the divisive, racist apartheid regime. Never before collected together, Light In The Attic is set to release National Wake's full body of work as Walk In Africa 1979-81.
Featured heavily in the recent documentary Punk In Africa , National Wake played punk, reggae and tropical funk, equally at home in the city's rock underground and the township nightclub circuit. Ivan Kadey started the band with two brothers, Gary and Punka Khoza. The three were from different worlds - while Ivan was an outsider, a Jewish orphan born in the traditional Johannesburg immigrant neighborhood, Gary, Punka and their family were forcibly moved to the troubled township of Soweto under the apartheid regime. Later joined by guitarist Steve Moni, the whole band grew up against a backdrop of township unrest, social upheaval and suburban tedium that characterized apartheid-era South Africa.
National Wake released just one album, in 1981. It sold approximately 700 copies before being withdrawn under government pressure. The band subsequently disintegrated, but their influence could be traced in the racially mixed post-punk underground centered around Rockey Street in Johannesburg throughout the 1980s, their legacy transmitted through fanzines and underground cassette trading.
Sadly, Gary and Punka Khoza both passed away in their 40s. Kadey now works as an architect in Los Angeles, but his attention eventually turned back to the band as their legacy grew in the digital era, with the emergence of specialized music websites and Punk In Africa leading to their rediscovery. Czech State Radio memorably described the band as "perhaps the most dissident music scene of the 20th century: a multi-racial punk band in a fascist police state."
In 2011, Kadey re-released the band's self-titled album on CD in South Africa, but spoke about having more than 20 tracks that had never seen the light of day - until now. "All of these recordings put together they speak of the whole evolution of the band," he has said. "From a sort of naive, almost belief that we could miraculously change everything to realizing what a struggle it was, and what the country was going through and what it would go through."LP1

The Invention Of Animals (Awaiting Repress)
A Collection Of Out-of-print And Unreleased Live Recordings
Limited Edition 180 Gram Vinyl
The John Lurie National Orchestra featuring John Lurie, Billy Martin and G. Calvin Weston
Billy Martin's Amulet Records have announced the release of The Invention of Animals by The John Lurie National Orchestra. The archival compilation assembles seven previously unreleased live and out-of-print studio recordings by the acclaimed musician, actor and visual artist John Lurie leading his early 1990s' trio with percussionists Billy Martin and G. Calvin Weston.
The three of us got together to try and write stuff for my band The Lounge Lizards, but what happened between the three of us was magical. After about a year of playing live it really came together, says John Lurie. There is something so unique and beautiful about this music. I don't think there is anything else like it.
Billy Martin adds: John and I share the idea that this is like someone discovered a field recording of a lost civilization. Some strange and beautiful tribe unlike any other known to man.
The Invention of Animals opens with Flutter, one of four National Orchestra performances culled from the soundtrack of John Lurie's 1991 television series, Fishing With John. Also drawn from that same soundtrack are The Beast, Little and Ignore The Giant. The additional studio recording included here is the title track to the only official John Lurie National Orchestra album Men With Sticks released in 1993. Rounding out the collection are two previously unreleased live recordings. I Came To Visit Here For Awhile was preserved at the Threadwaxing Space in New York City on May 7, 1993. The album's centerpiece and title track, The Invention of Animals, running at 19-minutes-plus, was captured by highly regarded sound engineer Claudia Engelhart from a performance on February 12, 1994 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
John Lurie first became known for his work in the late '70s leading the band The Lounge Lizards, which went on to make music for 20 years. During this time, Lurie recorded 22 albums and composed scores for over 20 movies, including Stranger than Paradise, Down by Law, Mystery Train, Clay Pigeons, Animal Factory and Get Shorty, which earned him a Grammy nomination. Lurie also starred in three films directed by Jim Jarmusch, as well as a host of other films. He wrote, directed and starred in the aforementioned cult classic Fishing with John, a series that is now part of The Criterion Collection. Lurie is also responsible for the incredible music of Marvin Pontiac. Lurie emerged onto the art scene in the spring of 2004, when he had his first painting exhibition at Anton Kern Gallery. Since then Lurie's work has been exhibited in esteemed galleries throughout the world. His solo museum exhibits include P.S.1. Contemporary Arts Center in New York, Musee Des Beaux-Arts De Montreal, the Musee d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean in Luxembourg and the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, who gave their entire museum over to the presentation of Lurie's work. Both the Wadsorth Athenaeum in Connecticut and The Museum of Modern Art in New York have acquired his work for their permanent collections.

Band of BrothersIN A CELEBRATED CAREER
that's extended over a half century,
Willie Nelson is immediately recognizable as one of our nation's most
celebrated singer-songwriters. After almost two decades, he's putting both of
those unique talents together with an
all-new album of predominantly original
material, titled, Band Of Brothers.
Willie Nelson's musical gifts ring as
true as ever, and they're brilliantly
captured on this brand new album. 14
new recordings, nine of which feature
new music and lyrics written by Willie,
comprise in one of his most personal
albums in years. The man who penned
elegant country standards from "Crazy"
to "Funny How Time Slips Away" is
in rare form with deeply introspective
tracks including "The Wall" and "Send
Me A Picture." Elsewhere, songs like
the rollicking "Wives And Girlfriends"
and "Used To Her" prove his continued
gift for wit and wisdom when it comes
to affairs of the heart. Willie also
delivers signature interpretations of
Vince Gill's "Whenever You Come
Around", Billy Joe Shaver's "The Git
Go" (a duet with Jamey Johnson)
and Billy Anderson's aptly-titled
"Songwriter". Buddy Cannon returns
as producer and co-writer, having
collaborated with Willie on all four of
his albums for Legacy.
Band Of Brothers comes hot on
the heels of a whirlwind of activity
surrounding the legendary performer,
already a Lifetime Achievement
Grammy Award winner, a Kennedy
Center honoree and one of the rst
recipients of a lifetime achievement
award from the National Academy
of Popular Music. Nelson, whose
association with the Sony Music family
goes back to his 1964 signing to RCA
Records and an extraordinary stint with
Columbia Records from 1975 to 1993,
signed to Legacy Recordings in 2012,
releasing the acclaimed Heroes that
same year, followed by Let's Face The
Music And Dance (2013), a collection
of pop, jazz and country standards.
To All The Girls..., a collection of new
duets with eighteen female duet
partners, was released in October
2013, becoming Nelson's first Top 10

The Story Of Light'The Story of Light', a new solo album of original material by virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer Steve Vai. The title comes out on Favored Nations Entertainment, the label Vai founded in 1999. Its sprawling and expressive 12-song set continues a conceptual and cosmic narrative arc begun on the artist's acclaimed 2005 album 'Real Illusions: Reflections'.
Throughout, three-time Grammy winner Vai's lead guitar is as lyrically resonant as it is technically masterful, his licks and solos bending sounds and in listeners' minds in equal measure. 'The Story of Light' follows the journey of a man driven mad by grief, intertwining tragedy, revelation, enlightenment, and redemption.
'I m always pursuing knowledge. I'm a seeker of spiritual equilibrium and music is a big part of that,' says Vai. 'I've been obsessed with these kinds of ideas for years.'LP1

Lowell Graham Conducts The National Symphonic Winds
Recorded To 2-Track, Half-Inch 30 Inch-Per-Second Tape Via Modified Studer Tape Deck
Selections From The Stage, Screen And Olympic Fanfare
New from Wilson Audiophile Recordings, Center Stage, featuring Lowell Graham conducting the National Symphonic Winds
These recordings were made in a historic concert hall on the campus of Hampton University in Hampton Roads, Va. The history of the hall parallels somewhat New York's Carnegie Hall. The musicians in the National Symphonic Winds come from the premier military bands of the United States as well as the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The result was a superb mix of seasoned and assured professionals for this single, five-hour recording session.
Lowell Graham, a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, was also the first to be awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the Catholic University of America. He has led orchestras and bands in performances throughout the world, and he's the current conductor and commander of the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band.
Recorded with minimal miking (Sennheiser), directly to 2-track half-inch, 30 ips tape using arguably the finest 2-track analog recorder in the world - the Wilson Ultramaster - a highly-modified Studer tape deck with custom-designed electronics designed by John Curl. To accomplish this difficult, time pressure recording, the recording engineering skills of the renowned Bruce Leek were employed.
The extreme dynamic range of the music remains intact as well as the soundstage and timbre of the ensemble remaining completely natural. There is no added enhancement to the concert hall's natural reverberation. When raising the volume, be careful as these real world dynamics can be harmful to playback equipment if care is not taken.
The musical repertoire was chosen to be user-friendly, vivid, colorful and impactful. Selections from Tony-winning stage classics Barnum, West Side Story and Oklahoma are joined by compositions from John Williams, including Olympic Fanfare composed for the 1984 Olympic Games. Selections from the Walt Disney favorite Mary Poppins include Spoonful of Sugar, Chim Chim Cheree and more. These significant recordings hold a distinctive place in the audio and musical world.
