Between The Needles And NightfallBetween The Needles And Nightfall was conceived at Trout Recording in Brooklyn, NY where engineer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Akron/Family) tracked Marco Benevento and his trio over three days. To achieve the colors he envisioned, Benevento recorded on a baby grand piano bolstered by guitar pick-ups, amplifiers and a myriad of pedals and circuit bend toys, while overdubbing Moog, Optigan, Mellotron and Farfisa. He then transferred the tracks to his home studio, taking the next two months to cut, loop and shape the pieces into full-fledged songs.
For the final mixes, Benevento handed off his work to three of his favorite engineers: Mell Dettmer (Sunn O))), Eyvind Kang, Jesse Lauter (Low Anthem, Elvis Perkins) and Vid Cousins (Amon Tobin, Kid Koala). The results range from the day-glo electro-rock of It Came From You to the simply-stated lullaby Illa Frost to the shimmering Arcade Fire-meets-Brad Mehldau anthem Two Of You.1. Greenpoint

Needle PawNai Palm, lead singer and composer of R&B future soul outfit Hiatus Kaiyote, releases her first solo album Needle Paw. Comprised almost entirely of her guitar playing and vocal arrangements, Needle Paw is Nai Palm's self-imposed challenge to explore the potential for immortality and timelessness within her music by stripping away the produced layers to focus on the element that is closest to the source of the human soul, the voice.
Needle Paw is the rawest glimpse into Nai Palm's musical world. It is dreamlike, honest, and beautifully transparent, revealing her musical ruminations to listeners with a courageous vulnerability and artistic generosity.LP 1

Put Your Needle DownThe Secret Sisters' incredible story is as simple and true as the effortless harmonies that got them here. Begin anywhere -- the thick and fertile brambles
of their own family history or light upon the branches of the wondrous, fractal menagerie that makes up their self-titled debut album. The pair of Alabama
sisters direct from Muscle Shoals (barely twenty-somethings themselves) caught the attention of T Bone Burnett, who signed on as Executive Producer of
their debut album after spending time with Laura and Lydia and hearing them sing live, and is releasing the album on his new label created especially for
this release -- Beladroit. As Burnett explains, I have been making music for over forty years and The Secret Sisters album is as close to pure as it gets.
Their self-titled debut album consists of ballads, originals, and cover songs such as Why Don't Ya Love Me?, Why Baby Why, and the Frank Sinatra
song Somethin' Stupid. The album also includes two originals written by Laura Rogers: Tennessee Me and Waste the Day. The album was recorded
in two weeks at Blackbird studios. Their eleven-song debut was produced by Dave Cobb, who has worked with artists such as Waylon Jennings and
Jamey Johnson, and also executive produced by T-Bone Burnett. The Secret Sisters brough in studio musicians such as steel guitar player Robbie
Turner and pianist Pig Robbins. Also included on the album is a cover of the 60s rock song by then teenage singer Nancy Baron I've got a Feeling,
written by Wally Zober and C. Laverne. The album was also recorded with classic analog equipment. The production team and the Sisters utilized vintage
microphones and classic recording techniques, down to the same type of tape they would have used fifty years ago.1. Rattle My Bones

WoodstockWell, we're two full months into 2017 and the world continues to burn like an avalanche of flaming biohazard material sliding down a mountain of used needles into a canyon full of rat feces. But hey, it's not all bad: Portugal. The Man has a new album coming out called Woodstock.
PTM's last album came out over three years ago-a long gap for a band who've dropped roughly an album a year since 2006. And in true, prolific band fashion, they've spent almost every minute since 2013 working on an album called Gloomin + Doomin. They created a shit-ton of individual songs, but as a whole, none of them hung together in a way that felt right. Then John Gourley, PTM's lead singer, made a trip home to Wasilla, Alaska, (Home of Portugal. The Man's biggest fan, Sarah Palin) and two things happened that completely changed the album's trajectory.
First, John got some parental tough love from his old man, who called John on the proverbial carpet or dogsled or whatever you put people on when you want to yell at them in Alaska. What's taking so long to finish the album? John's dad said. Isn't that what bands do? Write songs and then put them out? Like fathers and unlicensed therapists tend to do, John's dad cut him deep. The whole thing started John thinking about why the band seemed to be stuck on a musical elliptical machine from hell and, more importantly, about how to get off of it.
Second, fate stuck its wiener in John's ear again when he found his dad's ticket stub from the original 1969 Woodstock music festival. It seems like a small thing, but talking to his dad about Woodstock '69 knocked something loose in John's head. He realized that, in the same tradition of bands from that era, Portugal. The Man needed to speak out about the world crumbling around them. With these two ideas converging, the band made a seemingly bat-shit-crazy decision: they took all of the work they had done for the three years prior and they threw it out.
It wasn't easy and there was the constant threat that the band's record label might have them killed, but the totally insane decision paid off. With new, full-on, musical boners, the band went back to the studio-working with John Hill (In The Mountain In The Cloud), Danger Mouse (Evil Friends), Mike D (Everything Cool), and longtime collaborator Casey Bates (The one consistent producer since the first record). In this new-found creative territory, the album that became Woodstock rolled out naturally from there
Remember that mountain of burning needles we were talking about? Good. Because Woodstock is an album (Including the new single Feel It Still) that-with optimism and heart-points at the giant pile and says, Hey, this pile is fucked up! And if you think that pile is fucked up too, you owe it to yourself-hell, to all of us-to get out there and do something about it.1. Number One

Rocket To Russia (40th Anniversary Deluxe)Ranked 105/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Features New 40th Anniversary 'Tracking Mix' By Original Rocket To Russia Engineer/Mixer Ed Stasium
Limited To 15,000 Copies
Rhino will continue their Ramones archive releases with a 40th anniversary super deluxe edition of the band's third album, Rocket to Russia.
The 1977 album is reissued as a 3CD+LP set and features two mixes of the album: a remastered version of the original and a new 40th Anniversary 'Tracking Mix' by original Rocket To Russia engineer/mixer Ed Stasium. The latter provides a 'back-to-basics' version of the album, and has a different track listing from the 1977 original. Stasium explains things in the sleeve notes: "When putting together this new Tracking Mix, I decided to include the versions of 'I Don't Care' and 'It's A Long Way Back to Germany,' since they were recorded during the Rocket To Russia sessions at Mediasound, and are completely different takes that have never been heard before. Sheena has been omitted, as it was recorded in a totally different session a few months prior, in-between the Leave Home and Rocket To Russia albums." Both of these are squeezed onto the first CD.
The second CD contains 24 rare and unreleased recordings including rough mixes from sessions at Mediasound and The Power Station. There's also an early version of Needles And Pins (with Tommy on drums), the B-side single mix of Babysitter, an alternate version of It's A Long Way Back To Germany with Dee Dee on vocals and more.
The final CD includes a complete unreleased concert included on the third disc. The gig is from 19 Dember 1977 at the Apollo Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. This has been newly mixed from the multi-track tapes by Ed Stasium.
The fourth disc is a vinyl LP which actually features the tracking mix, not the original album.
As with previous sets this comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book and will be limited to 15,000 copies. The pages in the book feature stories about the band by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, details about making the album by Stasium, and extensive liner notes by Jaan Uhelszki.Disc One: Original Album

KAB Super Record Grip - Push On Record Clamp (On Sale)The newly redesigned KAB super record grip was designed to replace and improve upon the PIG clamp originally supplied with the Revolver brand turntables. This new design features a 2 piece precision molded frame, spring rubber insert and UHMW polyethylene non marring contact surface. This is especially useful on Rega brand turntables and others where there is very little spindle to grab on to.
The KAB Super Record Grip reduces resonance and acoustic vibration of the record itself, freeing the stylus to do its intended job of tracing the groove. The result is better focus and detail to the soundstage.
The Super record grip attaches quickly; by turning with slight pressure, it walks down the spindle and meets the record surface.
Note: For easier use, the center hole can be lubricated with a diluted solution of 5% Armor All® and alcohol, swabbed with Qtip®.
The built-in bubble level shows turntable level at a glance to within 1 degree of accuracy.
Spring reinforced rubber insert holds onto the turntable spindle firmly.
The built in bubble level allows a quick check of turntable level. A level turntable balances the forces of the needle in the groove.
When the needle is resting in the record groove, the entire record surface behaves as a microphone picking up vibrations from the air and the turntable below. Damping the record surface reduces the affect of these added vibrations to the needle's already difficult job of reading the groove.
The really great features to take note of with the KAB super record grip is the ease of use and cost effectiveness.
The super record grip represents great value. Yet it is quite good at what it does and even has the added benefit of showing level at a glance, each time you use it. Keeping with the KAB philosophy that more is better, but it needn't cost more!
One issue to be sensitive to is turntables with light floating spring suspensions. You will have to push down some while applying the super record grip. It does not rely on weight. (It only weighs 2 Oz) Be sure your turntable can Bottom Out safely. If this is a concern, consult your turntable maker first.
[In our opinion, if you can bottom out safely, the super grip is a better solution still over clamps that rely on weight, since they will change the operating height of your platter.]$38.00Record Clamp Buy Now
Rage Against The Machine (Picture Disc)Pissed off and angry is the best way to describe Rage Against the Machine's first album. A fierce mix of hip-hop, punk & heavy rock exploded all over the music scene in 1992.
At first sight an unlikely band; Tom Morello, a nerdy guitarhero who played his guitar like a DJ, political activist Zack de la Rocha who spitted out his lyrics with a vengeance. Together with Brad Wilk on drums and Tim C. on bass they produced one of the most angry records of 90's.

On The Threshold Of A DreamImport
On The Threshold Of A Dream is the fourth album by The Moody Blues, released in 1969. Like most Moody albums, On The Threshold Of A Dream follows a concept. It explores dreams, especially on the second side, which climaxes with the Voyage suite, inspired in part by Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra.
This album is oozing with bright, splashy creative flourishes in two seemingly contradictory directions that somehow come together as a valid whole. On The Threshold Of A Dream provided The Moody Blues with their first British #1 album and remained on the charts for an astonishing 70 weeks.
The Moody Blues are regarded as one of the most innovative and successful rock bands in music history and you only have to put down the needle on this record to be convinced that this bold statement is indeed a fact.1. In The Beginning

Plastic Ono BandRemastered From The Original Tapes By Sean Lennon
This long-overdue vinyl reissue of Yoko Ono's seminal, but massively under-appreciated Plastic Ono Band has all the makings of a classic rock nostalgia trip: Ono, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman and free-jazz legend Ornette Coleman. All the pieces are here to stir up a dangerous amount of nostalgia. But once the needle drops, the record achieves something exactly perpendicular to nostalgia.
Released in 1971, the album not only influenced the approach of other musicians for decades, it also sounds absolutely modern 44 years out, eternally fresh despite the forward march of time. Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band not only predicted the intersection of the avant-garde and rock that would take place in the second half of that decade, the album would sound right at home at where that intersection is happening today.1. In his solo debut as a recording artist, Michael Nesmith breaks ground with his First National Band on Magnetic South, waxing eleven country-rock classics. Taped at RCA's Hollywood Studios in February 1970 directly after his departure from The Monkees, the album thematically opens Nesmith's First National American trilogy of blue, red and white albums (with a trademark needle point sleeve designed by none other than Dean Torrence). Magnetic South is brimming with songs Nesmith stockpiled during The Monkees heyday and also includes the Top 40 hit single Joanne, with covers of One Rose and Beyond The Blue Horizon topping off this spirited and infectious long player. Issued in July 1970, Magnetic South was the first of two albums issued by The First National Band that year to critical accolades. Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
Sleeved In A Tip-On Jacket
MoFi may have the rest of their catalogue, but Chad Kassem's coup is grabbing this album, the band's second, from 1974. Why? Because it kicks off with their anthem, the inimitable, riff-driven, majestic 'Sweet Home Alabama' - one of the greatest air-guitar/road trip songs ever. By this time, the band was a mite slicker but just as unapologetically Confederate-with-a-capital 'C' as on their debut. The opener does overshadow the rest, but the album serves up what the LP title promises in 'The Needle And The Spoon,' which sounds like 'Sweet Home Alabama II.' Musically, this nestles alongside Little Feat and The Allman Brothers Band - deservedly high praise. - Ken Kessler, Hi-Fi News, April 2014
Get ready for some Southern hospitality, courtesy of Analogue Productions, Quality Record Pressings and one of the hardest-rocking bands to ever grace a stage! With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations.
This Lynyrd Skynyrd 1974 album follows the success of Free Bird and Gimme Three Steps from their 1973 debut and features their biggest hit single, Sweet Home Alabama, an answer to Neil Young's Southern Man and Alabama. The song reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1974. Second Helping also featured Don't Ask Me No Questions, Workin' for MCA and Call Me The Breeze, the latter of which includes an acclaimed piano solo. Backed by a tight rhythm section and the mighty three-guitar attack of Allen Collins, Ed King and Gary Rossington, singer Ronnie Van Zant turns in a legendary performance on the urgent blues ballad I Need You, the cautionary The Needle And The Spoon and The Ballad Of Curtis Loew. 200-gram vinyl, mastering by Kevin Gray, lacquer plating by QRP's Gary Salstrom, heavy, tip-on gatefold jacket. DereconstructedWhat awaits you when the needle drops on Dereconstructed, the
new album by Lee Bains lll & the Glory Fires? Nothing less than
pure fucking heaven, that's what.
Consider the record's opener, "The Company Man." It revs up with
a riff sleazy enough to clog Rod Stewart's stomach pump as an
incantation that only a Yellowhammer can truly understand is
bellowed and then screamed. Before you know it, the joint is hotter
than a Birmingham soaking pit while you, the listener, are reminded,
lest you forget, don't ever trust the company man.
Dereconstructed is a careening, road raging, all night party of a
record. Informed by a distinctly southern hoodoo, it is a master

down, so much so that even his hyper literate musings are no match
for the blown out distortion that gives this record it's blistering
Songs like "The Kudzu and The Concrete," "Dirt Track" and the
roaring, blissfully-shambolic title track could be anthems looking
for a stadium, but they're also reminders as to why Lee Bains lll &
the Glory Fires are such a formidable party machine: simply put,

Jack White presents his new album Lazaretto, released on Third Man Records/Columbia. Lazaretto inhabits an exciting place in White's expansive discography as the follow-up to 2012's gold-certified international #1 Blunderbuss, and was preceded by first single and title track ''Lazaretto.''
The aforementioned Blunderbuss was the first U.S. #1 album of Jack's storied career, also debuting at #1 in the UK, Canada, and, naturally, Switzerland. Blunderbuss was supported by an ambitious world tour featuring two backing bands, the all-male Buzzards and all-female Peacocks, notched up five GRAMMY nominations including Album of the Year, and dominated Best of 2012 lists, including being named MOJO's #1 album of 2012.1. TurkeyIn bowling's hallowed alleys, a strike is the minor miracle of all ten pins falling at once. Back-to-back strikes make a double. Do it a third time and you've got yourself a turkey. History will decide which sports metaphor to apply to Mike Krol's first two records, I Hate Jazz (2011) and Trust Fund (2013). But as needle meets groove on Turkey-Krol's first record for Merge-there is no ambiguity. A shiny black ball tumbles past the suburban strip malls of a polyestered Wisconsin and veers precariously close to an East Coast gutter before gathering momentum in a physics-defying sprint for the Pacific. California is where the headpin falls-the right velocity, the perfect geometry, the bowler's intent beautifully realized in a noisy moment of awesome destruction. Mike Krol got his bike stolen and his heart broken. He bailed on graphic-design-as-career. He kept playing drums and guitars, and he kept writing songs about the stuff he hated and the stuff he loved. Leaving Milwaukee for Los Angeles, he took a few years' worth of wrong turns. But when he showed up at a studio in Sacramento in March 2014, he had his affairs in order. Plug the vocal mic into a guitar amp. Plug the guitar into an overheating box of vacuum tubes. Put the computer in the closet. Roll the tape.1. Suburban Wasteland
